  1. It was slightly disappointing to me too, but I guess I can't think of a season where we beat Tech at home, destroy LSU, and are less than a minute away from the Big Dance as a failure. Can a disappointing season also be successful? That's how I perceived it.

  3. Hays Rebels beat the Akins Eagles 42-7 at Bob Shelton stadium. It was strange how similar the view was to catching a game at old Fouts(I hadn't seen a HS game in almost 10yrs). Boone Feldt was bigger and stronger than anyone on the field. He just overpowered his man. He got flagged for holding a couple times but only because he drove his man 30yds from the play. It looked like he lost his cool once because he drove his man from the middle of the field all the way to the sideline and then on his back. The kid he drove laid there a few minutes before getting up and limping to the other sideline. He got sat on the bench for the rest of the half after that play. I like his intensity. He is a solid recruit and once Wintrich and Simmonds get ahold of him, he will be a 4yr starter. Another kid impressed me too. He is just a sophomore but is a 6' 226lb DT(in a 3-4 defense) who goes to the whistle on every play and shows no fear. If he stays in the weight room the next 2 yrs, he could be a big time recruit too.

  4. I was in Denton yesterday and noticed the same thing - as we drove around the campus the number of students wearing Mean Green gear was astounding. We went to Voertmans as well and numerous students (and their parents) were buying lots of Mean Green gear. Times - They are a'changing.

  5. damn where have you been since the mid 90's? The Big West and Sunbelt were easily the worst D1 conferences in the nation!!! NT has been in the absolute basement of college football for 20 year!!! Now that the Sunbelt has passed up the MAC and WAC, you wanna complain about being "affiliated with a conference that is a candidate for 'worst of the worst' learn some NT history, then you should take your embarresment to the Sunbelt Board becuz i am not ashamed of anything afilliated with NT right now..... if we win the Sunbelt Conference Championship, maybe not this year, but next year, trust me i wont feel any embaressment.

  10. I have read article after article that states that a team who has a bunch of injuries one year will end up wining one to two more games than they did the year with injuries due to the experience of the players forced to have playing time because of the injuries and due to the experience they gained. I truely belive we will win at least five games one of which will be Indiana by three to five points, as well as FAU, LALA, Mid Tenn, and Western Kentucky Don't be surprised with another win thrown in there against either Ark State or La Monroe. I still predict 5-7. SCRAPPYMAN 1

  11. Here is the best chance for a non conference win. Last week I watched the Big Ten Network fall camp show on Indiana. Their weaknesses are in OL and DL size, their five quarterbacks have a combined 11 collegiate completions and their defense was bad last year giving up 83 points to Wisconsin and over 40 to Illinois, Michigan and Penn State...This all sounds familiar. Let's hope that Mac is the X factor to North Texas beating a team from the mighty Big Ten Conference!

  12. ...guy wanted some new threads. Went to Macy's last weekend where his girlfriend worked. He bought $1,596.09 worth of clothes for $12.91, with girlfriend as cashier using her debit card. Then, the genius went back this week, and the she sold him $1,238.75 worth of clothes for $0.34, which he paid himself. Felony embezzlement. It's a problem. For Tulsa. http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/TU/article.aspx?subjectid=94&articleid=20110826_94_0_Thegir976429 Did I say we'd have a better than average chance of beating them on October 1? KA-POW! Well, look at the bright side, Damaris...you did already set the NCAA record for all-purpose yards last year with the rout of Hawaii in the bowl game. There really was no need for you to come this year and just pile on.

  15. Baylor was far from being terrible when they joined the Big XII. They had been to several bowl games in the years leading up to the SWC crashing down. It was TCU that was terrible, along with SMU and Rice, too. Baylor will be in the MWC before this is all over--mark it down.

  16. CBS is licking their chops to expand the SEC into Texas even moreso than it already is. Tortious interference claim threats will go nowhere. A&M and the SEC are doing their due diligence, hence the letter to Beebe - who demanded that they notify him of their plans. It's just posturing on his part because it's all he can do. UT will try to scare up a fight because they have to. Their prayer is that OU doesn't get the itch as well. OU has national appeal beyond A&M or Texas, more national titles, more award winners. You can add all of A&M and UT's titles and awards together and they still don't add up to what OU has done historically. If OU also says, "To hell with you all" then it's all over. They can put a band aid on the conference if A&M leaves and pretend Houston and SMU are good football replacements. But, OU's loss would be the mortal wound.

  18. It sounds like you have all your eggs in the basket of Tony Mitchell and a great class of Freshmen. Temper your expectations. The class that just graduated was a class that will go down in Mean Green lore for years and years. I believe this freshman class will do the same, but they are still freshmen. This year may be a slight drop-off from last year. If it is, it shouldn't be a reason for disappointment. I suppose it really depends on Franklin's waiver, the level of Mitchell's play, the ability of our fab freshmen to progress & gel throughout the year, and finally, our returning players' continued improvements (I'm looking at you Holmen!). That's alot of question marks. If all of these things go well, we should be able to make some noise, if not win, the SBC. If they don't, we may very well go .500 in conference and make an early exit in the conf. tourney.

  21. I was not at the CH game as I was in Denton yesterday but I went to the CH scrimmage a week ago Friday and another of our commits - DT Sir Calvin Wallace was injured - sprained ankle from what I am told. He did not play last night (or so my wife said - she went to the game) and my wife was told by one of the coaches - she teaches in CHISD - that he may miss 2 - 3 games. CH plays 4-A Whitehouse this Thursday evening - what a problem; do I go to CH game or watch the Mean Green on ESPN3??? Gotta lot of internal debatin' to do between now and Thursday.

  28. I like our CB's a lot. One side we have Steven Ford. Last fall camp, before he was injured, nobody on our roster could catch a ball on him. He will undoubtedly be slowed by the surgery. If it doesn't slow him too much, he'll still be in the running for all-conference. On the other side, we have Royce Hill. Royce is probably our most experienced defensive player. He's a good cover corner, but like most of our secondary, he is undersized. Our corners could definitely make an argument that they are the best unit on our enter defense. They are super athletic, but very undersized. Our backups are Freddie Warner and D'Leon McCord. They are both capable players, but I don't trust them near as much as the other two. Starter: Royce Hill Starter: Steven Ford 2: Freddie Warner 2: D'Leon McCord Starter Position Rating: 7.5/10 Backup Position Rating: 6/10 Overall Position Rating: 7/10

  35. Here is the definition of preventive care since you do not know what it means - preventive care - a pattern of nursing and medical care that focuses on disease prevention and health maintenance. It includes early diagnosis of disease, discovery and identification of people at risk of development of specific problems, counseling, and other necessary intervention to avert a health problem. Screening tests, health education, and immunization programs are common examples of preventive care. Please tell me how making the right choices in food consmption or personal habits has anything to do with a pattern of nursing or medical care? Prices of everything go up do to inflation and other factors, a better indicator is how much something costs somewhere else in relation to its cost here. Cuba is not a developed country, there are 42 developed countries in the world, the US is the only one without some form of universal healthcare. Your friend's experience in England does not paint a picture for the entire country, how many people in the US cannot afford to have a knee replacement they need? How is a comparision between Navy personnel who don't want to deploy and normal citizens relevant? I pass on that one, it makes no sense and is comparing apples to oranges. Do you get to make choices on your insurance now? I don't. My employer makes the choice and I have to deal with it. I guess I could pay for it out of pocket but that would just be dumb. There is no simple solution to this, but costs are skyrocketing and employers are cutting insurance altogether adding to an already 45 million people without insurance.

  37. Not many things you listed is the first paragraph are preventive care. Things such as yearly physicals, blood tests, x-rays and so on are preventive care. Sitting on the couch and eating bad are choices people make, making the right choice does not constitute "care". In US dollars the per-capita spending for health care in Canada is about half of what it is in the US ($3,678 to $6,714 in 2006). We spend over 5% more of our GDP on healthcare than Canada and they live longer and they have healthier babies that have lower mortality rates. Basically Canada has better health care and they pay half of what we do. Capitalism is not always a good thing and this is one example where it is not.

  38. One of the major problems is that people who don't have insurance can't afford preventive care. So until we live in a country where everyone has insurance (like every other civilized country in the world) people will die because they cannot afford insurance. The costs of having universal coverage will be great in the beginning, but once people are able to establish preventive care those costs will go down. Insurance companies are out to make money they don't care about people, especially in the US where everything is a money grab.

  40. But that's the problem. Our country and our culture are facing multiple challenges, some related to economics, some not. To just choose someone because they're a capitalist or a Christian or an eviromentalist is being one dimensional and simplistic. That's why we end up with candidates like Sarah or Al.

  45. -- We had the same problem during the 1970's....in basketball especially and football some. In basketball we won 20+ games for three consecutive years (with 6 or less losses) and none of the ranked basketball teams would play us. NCAA bids were at stake and they did not want to play a good but unranked team for fear of not getting a basketball bid. In short lot to lose and not much to gain. The NCAA basketball situation was quite different then with only 24 or maybe 32 teams selected. --Hayden Fry had a simliar problem when he was here... There were a lot of teams in major conferneces that would not schedule us... Tennessee did thinking they could defeat us... and they lost..... they cancelled their second games with us because of that and we were picked up by UT .....and then UT only defeated us when Earl Campbell went around right end with about 2 min left. ---What they say at Bosie is likely absolutlely true.... we don't have that problem now... teams love to play us in football now... we look like an automatic win.
