I call BS. Everyone knows that Dan McCarney isn't known as far away as California. Now, Mike Leach on the other hand...5 points

I see this as a good thing for the O Line....We all know that the line was not very deep and a few injuries or poor performance by some of the starters could spell doom for us....For a freshman we did not expect to see action step forward in August to impress our experienced coaches enough to be named a starter means that our depth just improved by one.5 points

From what I saw while I was there the turnout was pretty good considering the short notice and the fact that it was almost all freshmen (whether or not they raised their hands or yelled when D-Mac asked how many freshmen were there). The video probably shows about half the amount of students that really showed up throughout the evening. There were a lot of students at the concession stand taking advantage of the free food, which wouldn't have been the case if there was more than one concession stand open. And I would definitely disagree with the statement of the band out numbering the students. Maybe it looked that way in the video but I am positive that more students showed up in total than the number of band members. If that many freshmen show up for the first game, combined with the rest of the student body that has shown up at past season openers at a decaying Fouts, and then the rest of the students who will show up just because it's a new stajium and the opponent is a recognizable school, then the student section will be full in my estimation.3 points

It takes time to build traditions. When these freshmen are seniors, we'll be coming off our 2nd bowl victory and the entire student section will be filled.3 points

I'll be video taping it for sure. Unfortunately the plan as far as I know is to still store Boomer back over at Fouts. I'm hoping there is another place found before long? Many of you have concerns about the future of Boomer and i cant thank you enough for your concerns. And there have been some great suggestions and offers to get involved and possibly putting together a group to help raise funds to acquire better storage nearby. I'm taking some of those suggestions and am currently working on finding out information to help take it to the next level towards this and will keep everyone involved and updated when I have further information about it. This GMG.com family is amazing to me. Thank you to everyone again. Rick3 points

A couple of memorable stories. Loyal Dog Mourns Fallen Navy Seal (Video) http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/man-best-friend-mourns-death-175219915.html AND ANOTHER FROM MY AREA (SOUTH TEXAS) Local Marine killed by sniper and his war buddy Pfc. Colton Rusk always talked about his loyal bomb-sniffing black lab, Eli, when he called home When Pfc. Colton Rusk was shot by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan last December, his loyal explosives-sniffing dog, Eli, rushed to his side and crawled on top of him to protect him, according to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. Eli even snapped at other Marines who rushed over to help Rusk. Tragically, Rusk, 20, didn’t make it. Eli could have been sent off to a new handler. After all, he’s only 4 years old, was uninjured, and has thousands of dollars worth of training invested in him. The day Rusk died, Eli had already sniffed out two explosives. But a plea from Rusk’s family in Texas changed Eli’s future. The commander of Rusk’s unit knew of Rusk’s very special bond with Eli. Sniffer dogs are supposed to sleep in kennels. But Rusk often broke the rules and let him sleep with him on his cot, according to the Huffington Post. Sometimes the dog took up the entire sleeping bag, but Rusk didn’t mind.. Rusk had grown up with dogs on his family’s 100-acre ranch in South Texas, and Eli was almost like a second skin to him. Rusk ate ready-to-eat meals, therefore so did Eli. Based on their strong bond, and the family’s pleas (on their own and through influential politicians), the commander of Rusk’s unit recommended Eli for retirement and adoption by Rusk’s parents and brothers. It’s only the second adoption to the family of a military dog handler killed in combat, reports the Caller Brady Rusk, 12, clung to his brother's best friend when they met at Lackland Air Force Base on Thursday. I would see a game with UT vs ND generating much more buzz than vs A&M. ND is a national team, A&M is not even close to that level. For me personally, I never watched an A&M game until i started dating my fiancee, who is in a family of A&M grads. I also may be biased because I grew up a ND fan and if it weren't for UNT they would still be my favorite team. My best friend actually offered to take me to the ND-Michigan game this season for a bachelor type party thing, but I had to refuse as it is the same day as our first game in the new stadium. He thought I was crazy and stupid...2 points

Um ... good luck with that. Big 12 would have to be pretty desperate to take SMU.2 points

10 a.m. to noon at the Apogee Mean Green Testing Grounds in the south end zone. We will be training the new Cannon Crew and getting them ready for game day. Like many times before Boomer will be sporting some new upgrades. So in having a little fun with it I thought it would be fitting to refer to the 2011 version of Boomer as "The McCarney Series". Nick Zuniga "Bull" started as a true freshman and played all four years. I heard that Freddie Warner will see time in the secondary and special teams. He will not play offense this year. Antonio Johnson plays tackle not guard different position than Lemon. Johnson will be on the two deep but not clear if he will start yet.2 points

Ok, gentlemen! Love North Texas and I are master sign/poster makers for games, but not necessarily masters at football lingo. What would be some clever lines or sayings we could put on a sign/poster for the FIU game?1 point

The NT Daily has a short story and a drawing of the proposed pedestrian bridge that will lead us over Interstate 35 in the future. Here's the link: http://www.ntdaily.com/?p=55990 Click here to view the article1 point

I've confirmed that Athletics will take possession of the parking permits tomorrow and tickets will start being mailed either Friday or Monday!1 point

I suspect there are some other surprises he's not letting on. My guess Warner moved to wide receiver ala Jamel Branch.1 point

Wow, this either means we're pretty weak at guard or we're pretty damn strong and this kid is just that good. Regardless, with an o-line that's got Lemon(so) C. Feldt(so) and B. Feldt (fr) next season, we seem to be stockpiled for the future.1 point

I didn't see this up on the board anywhere yet. If it is, and I missed it, my bad. http://espn.go.com/dallas/ncf/story/_/id/6864586/unt-football-embracing-change-new-coach-dan-mccarney1 point

True, but you're bringing back the same guys who came close to beating K-State and adding some key players who were injured plus a few freshman and transfers who are apparently going to make an immediate impact.1 point

Even if they have mechanical problems, at a minimum they should be on static display in the concourse of the new stadium. New generations of Mean Green fans need to see and appreciate them.1 point

How can you name two offensive players team captains, and neither be Lance Dunbar? I'm not saying the others are not deserving, but with what Lance has done at North Texas, I think he is too. Just saying...1 point
-
Sweet -- I think this puts the boards up to 5-7 now. We need you. Also, from what my friends there are telling me, things are pretty dark in that ticket office right now. You should probably be able to just list demands regarding group packages. Please let the team be sold soon...1 point

Well, would you settle for some of the parts/scraps from the aforementioned children and animals from in and around the stadium?1 point
-
I'm incredibly onboard with this demand for mascot realism. If we don't see Scrappy off his feet and preying upon the smaller children and animals in and around the stadium this year, then why the hell do we have a team? Also, although this is more of a 2012 demand, I would also like him to regurgitate a worm into my mouth every time we force a punt.1 point

I ended up taking one of my sons last night. He's just over 2. He loved seeing the band, especially the drum line. Quotes from him below. "Look daddy, there's the football stadium. Eagle!" "Scrappy is my friend daddy." "I am going to hug scrappy." "Scrappy. He's cool daddy." "Wow." Greatness. JRock1 point

-1 to the guy who gave CMJ a -1 for this. Thanks CMJ. Some of us actually watched her Vol teams. Those late 1990's squads were giants.1 point

Now I get it! That is good and I totally should have gotten that bust just didn't for some reason. SoHo, you may have tried to give me a -1, and as my best friend on the board I respect that. Maybe I deserved it, maybe I didn't. I will admit I should have gotten the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 championship thing but didn't. But the fact is your heart is so kind that it just couldn't let you give a friend a -1 and that's why even though you thought you were giving me a -1 you gave me a +1. Your heart won and lead you towards making the right click.1 point
