I'm incredibly onboard with this demand for mascot realism. If we don't see Scrappy off his feet and preying upon the smaller children and animals in and around the stadium this year, then why the hell do we have a team? Also, although this is more of a 2012 demand, I would also like him to regurgitate a worm into my mouth every time we force a punt.4 points

Jesus, we want spirit and traditions... and then bitch when students want to be spirited and create new traditions.4 points

Looks kinda cheesey to go on a hardcore fan board (we have no T-Shirt fan.. yet?) and start throwing out mad props to a school that you have never even seen in person. I'll give you a break on this because of your age and the fact that you have yet to pick a college after CC. But let me share a story: September 2003 - Norman, Oklahoma - outside the gates of OU stadium talking to 3 guys dressed in OU gear with good natured trash talk about who will win. One of the OU guys then rats out one of the others. The guy, fully dressed head-to-toe in OU gear is a UNT grad. OU grad school? No. OU law? No. Just a complete Dbag who showed up to root against his Alma Mater because being a fan of a winner was more important than loyalty. COMPLETE DBAG!! Whatever school you end up at, enjoy live sports that that school offers. Build a real connection with real people at your school. OR, be a complete Dbag. Your choice.4 points

I ended up taking one of my sons last night. He's just over 2. He loved seeing the band, especially the drum line. Quotes from him below. "Look daddy, there's the football stadium. Eagle!" "Scrappy is my friend daddy." "I am going to hug scrappy." "Scrappy. He's cool daddy." "Wow." Greatness. JRock3 points

A booster paying for an abortion of a girl knocked up by a player without the player even knowing the girl is pregnant? Every big time school does NOT do this. Pure sleeze, and has been for years.3 points

Let's put a "U" on our helmets. It doesn't look like any other team will be using that logo for a while. GO MEAN GREEN3 points

They literally used a runway to show off these things! With real players striking various poses along the way. I don't know what the rest of these crazy uniform unveilings are like, but when you have football players walking a runway, something has gone horribly, terribly, catastrophically wrong.3 points

10 a.m. to noon at the Apogee Mean Green Testing Grounds in the south end zone. We will be training the new Cannon Crew and getting them ready for game day. Like many times before Boomer will be sporting some new upgrades. So in having a little fun with it I thought it would be fitting to refer to the 2011 version of Boomer as "The McCarney Series". Rick... GREAT NEWS! Looks like things got worked out. Really happy to see this. WELCOME BACK BOOMER! Now, that's a UNT tradition we can all stand behind (literally...don't get in front of Boomer when he is doing his thing!).2 points

Since you asked for a local's perspective, here's mine: This isn't a ban on alcohol. In this morning's Herald-Zeitung the outfitters are already making plans on providing mini-kegs for carbonated drinks. Juice and water can be placed in non-disposable drinking containers and jugs. Comprimise has been tried for years. We've tried limits on cooler size, banning jello shots, glass and stryrofoam. Trash barges on river, mesh litter bags provided, None have worked yet. The river pollution is out of control and the vast majority of tubers don't care they are trashing our rivers. This isnt a vocal miniority here either There has been an outcry this year for the city to do something. We are tired. Tired of the tons of trash, tired of the drunks, tired of bad behavior. tired of people urinating in our yards. Tired of the fights, the public nudity. Tired of drunks leaving the river and into their cars to drive on our streets. The rivers inside the city used to be family friendly. You can't take your kids there anymore. Background, If you tube through an outfitter you already have to pay a fee that goes towards river clean up. Problem is the vast majority of tubers within the city limits don't use outfitters. They come to town with their own tube and booze and leave nothing but trash and bad behavior. This summer has been worse than previous years with the lower river levels on the Guad and Frio, traffic on the Comal has been up exponentialy. A couple of times this year they actually had to close the river a couple of times because there were too many people on it and it became a safety issue. Also there has been an increase in bad behavior directly tied to alcohol. For instance this summer 3 people have died on the Comal. Alcohol was a contributing factor in two of the deaths. Another incident was an off duty US Marine was drunk began assaulting his girlfriend, when NBPD intervened the Marine attacked the officer and choked him to unconsciousness before backup arrived. Citations and arrests for MIP, PI, DUI are way up. Why is this a big problem.. 1) LITTER. Every weekend there are litteraly thousands of pounds of beer cans on the bottom of the river. The river bottom has a carpet of beer cans. Photo Some may clean up after themselves but the vast majority don't The city cleans it up every weekend, but it only repeats itself week after week. The river clean up fee doesnt begin to pay for it all. Plus with the increased traffic the NBPD has officers on mandatory overtime the cost of the patroling the river is draining city coffers. 2)Environmental factors- Currently the water quality in the Comal is ok but fears are it has been comprimised by the trash, alcohol, and urine. There's is just too much of it for nature to overcome. The river is a habitat of an endangered species. There has been talk if the city didn't do something the EPA could close the river to all tubing. More people on the river means a slower float, what used to take 2 hours is now taking 4-5 hours. People are drinking more and trashing the river. Thought behind the ban is it will put an end to the mountains of trash and slow down the drinking. If you are one of the tourist that come and float the rivers, clean up after yourself... GREAT, YOU ARE WELCOMED. However the bad apples are ruining it for you. Don't blame the city and citizens of New Braunfels for the extra hassel. Blame the bad apples.2 points

I'll be back later to post that. I can tell you Graves checks in at 175lbs, Jones at 180lbs and Carter at 145, pretty big for a guard. That's a lot of beef.2 points

The band outnumbered the fans by a lot. I can not believe more people didn't show up. It was embarrassing indeed. I brought two other people with me (both are students) and they had no idea about it. I wonder if they need to get the word out more.2 points

Two things: 1. I've always liked the Maryland state flag and I like the way it's incorporated as the center stripe on the helmet and it's general color scheme used throughout...could do without the turtle shell print on the helmet, but perhaps that only shows up close. 2. What the hell is a University of Miami fan doing posting on here?2 points

They are a mid-tier non-D1 team. Scary? I sure hope not. I do not care how new our team is.2 points

This event went really well! Turn out was decent. The band actually played and marched part of their show. It was AWESOME! Incredibly loud. The football team did some contests with some students on the field and the crowd seemed to really enjoy it. I'm really excited about the first home game!2 points

There is a big football magazine coming out from the DRC this week - at least I think it is this week. Vito has been working hard on this and had a photographer out at the stadium open house. I would bet that part of the North Texas piece will come from that, but that is just a guess. I don't remember the exact amount of pages but it will be a big deal and have a ton of print for the Mean Green.2 points

Any advice from anyone remotely associated with Miami is likely bad advice. The glitz and glory of Miami is gone. It's obvious those championships were a sham. I don't know why anyone wants to hang on to it.2 points

Find the perfect eagle logo (Worm or SOW), put it on the helmet and leave it alone for the next 50 years and threaten any new future AD with a good ol' fashioned slobber-knockin' if they or some future new football coach wants to change it for "THEIR" tenure at North Texas.. That goes with the shade of green as well. Words, ie, "North Texas" will never have the right font that will make all the people happy all the time. UT and SMU have done quite well leaving their helmets alone most all my life which will be 61 this November; so have many, many other D1 football programs who didn't change their helmet look with every directional change of the wind or with every new regime (of which we've all seen a few at North Texas).2 points

What are the chances any suite holders, club level or MG Club members out there would have an extra parking pass for the home opener? I've got a group coming to the opener, one of which needs handicapped parking. The only option they have right now is parking at Fouts and taking a shuttle. He's fine with that but I would like to get him closer if possible. I don't want to make a big deal out of it. I'm assuming they'll improve on this as they get the parking kinks worked out. So in the mean time I thought I would put the feelers out there. Let me know what it would cost. Thanks! Jason1 point

Special to have a Cowboy great to motivate the team this close to the opener. Too bad he couldn't have brought the other two Ring inductees with him to help motivate the guys in the trenches. On a side note, kinda surprised that Haley made the ring when you consider his fairly brief Cowboy career and the off the field issues. I guess Jerry will be Jerry.1 point

Recipient of the Hail Mary Award presented by Roger Stauback post Minnesota Vikings game of 19?? Not sure why its taken so long for Drew to get in the Ring. Pretty good radio guy, too.1 point

Ok, but I think I;m gonna need a little more on this one. Should we go death penalty you win, non-death penalty I win? Thoughts? And, of course, proceeds to the board... In about 2018.1 point

And the truth comes out. Miami was a nobody until Jimmy arrived and they started buying players, which they are still doing after all these years. Your comment about my alma mater and the fact you used google to find the site coupled with your screenname tells me you have a vested interest in seeing something you think is marketable. On another note, I've seen quite a few more positive stories about UNT on NBC 5 lately! It's good to see them paying attention. UNT is a great place with some very exciting things happening right now for athletics and other departments on campus. I will be receiving my second degree from UNT in May and am VERY proud of my university. Hopefully more and more folks will start to pay attention. GO MEAN GREEN!1 point

For the distance from Fouts certainly no less that $5. To me that's the minimum no matter how short the ride. Remember they make no money whatsoever other than your tips. Each individual leases his or her cab from Pedi with no assurance of profit.1 point

Hey Everybody, It's been a long time, but thought you all might enjoy this. I know I enjoy sharing the news!! Mitch Maher, pastor at Redeemer Community Church in Katy, TX, and author of www.clarifyingthebible.com, recorded a hole in one at Monday's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Ray Dorr Golf Classic held at Pebble Creek Country Club in Bryan, TX. In doing so, the pastor won a 2011 Toyota Venza donated by Atkinson Toyota of Bryan. On the 17th hole, playing 199 yards downwind, Maher hit a 5-iron that landed about 20 feet short and rolled into the hole. "This is such a blessing. My wife and I have often wondered what we would do if my 1999 Mazda broke down. Well, now we don't have to find out!" What's more, this won't even be the most exciting event of the Maher's week, as Tara Maher will deliver by C-Section their third girl this Saturday morning. http://www.theeagle.com/local/Scoring-a-new-car http://www.kbtx.com/local/headlines/Golfer_Wins_Car_at_College_Station_Golf_Tournament_122474034.html This post has been promoted to an article1 point
