  1. I would have taken a jerk who graduates kids, apparently runs a clean program (one never really knows) and can transform an also ran into a national title contender any day of the week. I don't care if he is arrogant. Find me a winning college football coach that isn't.

  2. John Sparks is a 40-year veteran of television news and currently a professor at the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas. His work in breaking the SMU pay-for-play story in 1986 resulted in the NCAA issuing its first and only death penalty to a college football program.

  3. I always liked George Dunham's "Do you believe in the Mean Green!" quote that he said after we beat Texas Tech in the late 90s. This drop is still played on the Ticket from time to time. I think "Why not North Texas!" is a little trite. Really excited about the Mean Green. First year season ticket holder.

  4. North Texas' Boomer The Cannon comes in at #8. http://www.texasmonthly.com/preview/2011-09-01/feature "Boomer the Cannon It is believed to be the only seven-eights scale smooth-bore muzzle-loaded cannon used at a college football game in the country. Yeah, we don't know exactly what that means either, but we do know one thing from experience: Boomer is loud. Alas, the deafening blasts rang a little hollow last season, which UNT finished without any home wins. But with a new head coach and stadium, perhaps this year it'll discharge some joyous booms"---BDS Has a nice little photo in there as well. Rick

  5. Yesterday I bought 5 additional season tickets in section 105, 5 rows lower than my 5 season tickets. They're blocking off a lot of tickets for season ticket sales and to MGC members, keeps the Houston fans out as well. That being said, my party for opening day is at 16 thus far, with 4-6 more on the fence, when I'm normally good for 4 seats in the stands. Combined with a close regional oppenent flirting with the top 25, it's a recipe for a sell out and I'd love to see it. WNNT, GMG and 12 days to go!

  6. Seems like someone's argument in this thread still has decent sized headgear but a dwindling number of livestock.

  7. i've never had an issue with any license plate cover...and i've been pulled over plenty of times! remember flyer...we don't give gifts to get a gift...a gift is nonbinding. i'm happy i get something every year from north texas for giving them cash...they could stop and i'd still do it.

  9. again... The 60-Min interview had nothing to do with the Adam James situation/lawsuit. It was nothing but positive publicity for a coach and program. I'm not really sure what your problem with the lawsuit is either. Is it not standard practice to sue an employer for non payment of services rendered after dismissal for what you feel is a lack of cause?

  10. Look yyz28, you make some good points but you got to look at how our economy got the way it did. It was Bush's fault, the Chinese tsunamis, the south american spring, nascar kool-aid party baggers, the NRA, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Stephen Colbert, Deepwater horizon explosion, HAARP, Anthony Weiner, etc. Obama hasn't done anything wrong. He's just being held back by the above people from fixing the problem.

  12. I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with this idea, but here it is. DFW Classic at the AAC: UNT, TCU, SMU, and UTA. Round Robin format. It just makes too much sense.

  13. I have never liked anything that conveys any hint of doubt about the legitimacy of my school, or it's potential fan-worthiness. To me, the question/statement "Why Not North Texas" looks like the wearer of the shirt has doubts about North Texas............ and is trying to convince themselves as much as anyone else. Fan shirts should convey your commitment/loyalty and nothing else....in simple, bold, terms. NORTH TEXAS and MEAN GREEN should be enough for any shirt.

  14. Uh, might this be the husband of one Cinnamon Sheffield? You know, the Senior Associate Athletics Director at North Texas? Doesn't look like we did much of search for a T & F coach. Just saying...........

  15. I got mine today too. I thought it was pretty nice. I honestly see my gift from the mean green club being building my priority points and getting the parking pass. Priority points are going to be important as the bandwagon gets more and more full...

  19. Just replace the Dallas school, with a real basketball program, someone like Cedar Valley or Brookhaven and it might work.

  20. That's similar to the bridges over the Southwest Freeway in the Montrose area of Houston: Graustark Bridge over US-59 Although there are no vehicles in the picture, these bridges aren't just for pedestrians.

  23. Now that's a locker room. I remember seeing ours. Definitely a step up from the old locker rooms but pretty simple. Looks like the locker room in any upscale gym.

  27. The million dollar bridge, constructed from a papier-mâché of 10,000 hundred dollar bills was deemed too wrinkled for general use. I kid, I kid!

  28. Now that UTA has an acceptable arena, and the dump that Moody currently is is getting renovated, I think it would be awesome to rotate who hosts the tournament each year.

  29. I totally agree the next thing we need is an indoor practice facility and that way in the winter after football the other sports could also practice there when the weather is bad. I live in Waco and Baylor pushes that off on all of their recruits about their indoor facility. GO MEAN GREEN GO NORTH TEXAS

  30. Good to see everything falling in place in Mean Green Country. What next? Indoor practice facillity that a sudden cell burst cannot tear down? Our entire athletic plant with even more real estate for expansion would be the envy of many out there, even among some at the next level I'd wager.

  34. Hell, we're damn lucky Lee Jackson didn't make them build the stadium in Dallas! But then the Denia folks wouldnt have anything to bitch about.

  40. I like how the pole in the middle of the room was made "extra sturdy" to accomodate the added weight of the typical SMU Coed.

  41. Well they have to have a room to get dressed in so their 5 fans can watch em play football. though they may have lost 4 of those fan's after this article came out.

  42. "Throwing money" is one thing... cutting hundreds of thousands of teachers and programs is entirely another. It's not a zero sum game, education.

  44. --Obviously you are NOT in education..... our budgets have been cut regularly for years..... college tuition has rapidly climbed because of him and the Legislature..... local taxes are worse because of less state funding so locals have to pick it up.... and he has vetoed so many things that he said he supported.... [guess he didn't think the legislature would pass them and make a liar out of him] He even cut all health insurance from community college staffs [ even most of the legislature was appalled by it, it had been in the state budget for YEARS} ... The state doesn't give a huge support to community colleges, local taxes do. Community colleges lessen the burden on the state because of local funding.... then he decided to eliminate our insurance..... UNT etc. is all state money, plus tuition, donations... no local financial support. --He is the worst governor for education EVER... includes Briscoe and Mark White. Also the State Parks in Texas are now a mess as well... one of his budgets provided ONE new pickup for the ENTIRE state park system. There are a lot more reasons to dislike him including the Spanish Highway project he wanted..... just read and listen. He is conservative, I agree... very conservative... too conservative... I guess not changing your car's oil and not paying your light bill is conservative too...... but it isn't smart.
