  1. It is VERY obvious that Coach Mac was brought in with a mandate that he will, regardless of W/L record, sell the hell out of this program. Now, let me take a moment to throw some kudos towards a guy that deserves them. I see a lot of "nit picking" about the selection in the team store, the shape of our end zone, the way seat selection is handled, etc etc etc. Let's sit back and ponder this one fact though...Rick V has put in place a REAL coaching staff in a football stadium that gets compliments from those outside of our ranks daily! The staff that answers to him...and to us...in that AD's office is far and away improved from what it was even five years ago. The game day experience has improved year to year. And I won't even start on how much better the basketball program is from five years ago...though half our fans and the Denton community don't get it. Basically what I'm saying is this...Mac may be selling the hell out of this program, but RV has given a pretty sweet product to sell.

  2. Make jokes all you want but you cant deny he's not doing a good enough job covering the off-season. I heard from a very reliable source that Thursday was Salisbury steak day in the Victory Hall cafeteria. How many players ate the steak!!??? Well, Vito...how many? I think we should have him fired and let the legions of other people covering NT athletics take over.

  3. Boone was in attendance last night and is a great looking prospect. He had the best feet there in the OL group. Met his grandfather who was a great guy, and he was saying how much Cam already loved it, and the best thing to happen tomthe program was Dan McCarney. He said Boone loved it to and this is where he'd like to be. We'll see what happens this weekend. Also, Gerron Ballard is a specimen and we want him...trust me. He's in the Andrew Power category physically but is very fluid and effortless moving around, running, etc

  5. Just give you folks in Denton a heads up. Watched Micha play in the Oklahoma All State Game tonight..he was listed at 6'5 300lbs....The game is the best of the best across all classes in Oklahoma High School Football. He played very well...had 1 tackle for loss after sniffing out and blowing up a screen pass and blocked a FG attempt...that eventually ended up being the game winner as his West team won 21-19

  12. This is excellent news, indeed. It's the sort of thing "big time" program do and the sort of thing that will get UNT on the radar screens of many more HS recruits in the future. Coach mac has put together a very experienced staff and RV has put together some of the best facilities in the country. The Mean green will soon...very soon...once again be a force to be reckoned with in the D1 football ranks. Got to say hi to Coach Chico this morning when I dropped my bride off for the Women's Football Clinic. As always, he was upbeat, smiling and full of energy. I just am so glad UNT has Coach Chio running the offense. Every coach I saw this morning was upbeat, positive and seemed excited to be hosting all the ladies...and speaking of the ladies, sure looked like it was going to be a big crowd this year. See you at the Kickoof Cookout this evening...this is going to be a great start to the 2011 season. Let's get it going! GO MEAN GREEN & WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED!!!!!

  13. Apparently Vito had a hall pass for the event I was given the OK last night to come by UNT's new stadium for one big recruiting event. UNT had about 300 high school juniors at the stadium under the lights Since I would like to be allowed to come back again, if UNT hosts another event like this one, I won't mention specifically who I think I saw

  15. During Urban Myer's tenure at Florida he designated a Friday night during the summer for prospective recruits. It was dubbed "Friday Night Lights." Everything happened on the field at the Swamp. Very exciting with most media recruiting services and state papers there. My son attended this evening and I sat in the stands and watched in amazement. The kids were geared up in shirts with images of the national championship trophies, were weighed, timed in the 40 and all the speed measurables. They then went to the wieght room where they had a mini workout with the strength coaches and were measured. They then went into meeting rooms with position coaches for mini meetings. After that they went back on the field under the lights and split into skill groups. It was at that time that Myer said, "Tonight you get to feel what it is really like to be a Gator". At that moment, full crowd noise of a packed Swamp was piped in through the PA system and the players competed in 7 on 7, individuals and other games for about an hour. The night concluded with a full barbeque for the players and their parents. There was a camp charge involved. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen or been to. Coach Mac probably had the same thing last night. It is not widely publicized, mostly notes sent to the high school coaches, key recruits and recruiting services . . . but it is open to any player that wants to come and pay the fee. I believe they put a cap on the number of campers. Myer used that night to seal the deal with key recruits. Coach Mac was out in the middle of it with the d-linemen and their drills/inidividual competitions.

  16. Shook his hand on field after the game...he is every bit of 6'5" and I would say at least 290. He looks trimmer than he did in high school. At one point a RB brook free in the open field and Micha gave chase. Micha was actually closing on him over 15 yds, before a safety brought him down. Those I was with talked about that with some coaches in the stands and the speed he showed was impressive to us all, and was not speed I have seen out of him in the past. Seems he dropped some weight, put on a little muscle and gained a few more steps. But he still has a very long way to go. Contributing right away in D1 ball may be a stretch for him, but he has the work ethic to try. His most useful feature just may be his arms. I'm not sure his actual wingspan but he has some very very long arms

  17. Sounds too much like class warfare. Rich folk are popping out far too many kids too...take a look at Southlake. What if, now mind you the ideal time for this has passed, we trained the census takers to also perform vasectomies and tubal ligation on site? Ten years later they could come back and reverse the procedures...assuming of course we've come back down to a manageable world population. Obviously, I'm operating under the assumption that we're conducting a world census for a one world government...which is certainly right around the corner.

  20. I hate to be negative, but this is basically what I was afraid of. They hauled the same junk (and by junk, I mean poorly designed apparel) over from the book store and plopped it at the stadium. Glad there will be an outlet for items without having to go through the effort of getting to the union, but it could be much better.

  22. I was driving home tonight around 9:30 and noticed that the stadium lights were fully lit. So I pulled into the athletic center parking lot and saw that it was packed I then found a parking spot right in front of the stadium and walked through the open gates to see a field full of football players and the lower section filled with what I assume to be parents. Definitely high school players, I did not notice any Mean Green players. However, I did notice that Mac was there in his shades and I also spotted Chico. It was nice to see some action on a lit field, albeit I caught the very end of the workout. Anyone have an idea what this was?

  31. Watched Rex last night at the Friday Night Lights and he certainly stood out amongst the crowd, oh and ran a smooth 4.4 something while just "gliding" . Great looking athlete, easy to see why he was regarded as one of the best athletes at the recent 7 on 7 State Tournament by Rivals.com. I'd say he's probably 6'1" 185 or so right now, and he's lean. He appears to be a guy who can gain 10-15 pounds and not lose a step as he is extremely light on his feet. This is a very good looking athlete, and I truly believe this staff knows how to identify true Division 1 talent. I'll say that seeing Rex and Malik Dilonga (did not participate but was in street clothes)made me realize times are changing in Denton. If we look 2-3 years down the road, the physical appearance of this team and team speed will be night and day from where it is today.

  32. Excellent post Emmitt. I think if people were around during Dickey or even pre-Dickey days, they would be in utter shock and amazement at what they are witnessing program wide.

  33. That is some great recruiting information. I am so pumped with all that is going on with UNT Athletics- the stadium, McCarney, Canales still on staff, and all the new coaches. I know we have to win on the field first, but I believe, for the first time in many years, including the "Great Darrell Dickey" years, that we are in prime position to move this program forward and upward. I truly believe that.

  34. Labb and RT's would make sense if they both didnt smell like lung cancer as soon as you open the door. Love Shack, Metzlers, and Rooster's are great but they could only seat about 4 of us. My vote is for anything but Buffalo Wild & Mediocre Wings. Wings are meant to be served alongside a roll of paper towels and MUST be served on a platter stable enough to support their girth. Not with a couple of flimsy napkins and presented in a long john silvers paper basket.

  35. Coach Mac said we won't be doing the coach's show at the Pourhouse any more, unless something has changed. There was desire to give that honor to an establishment that does more to support the university financially.

  36. Only drawing from pictures I've seen on the web, but I've always thought that East Carolina has one of the nicest, if not the nicest, non-AQ stadium in the country. And it's way nicer than many of the AQ stadiums. And......it's always full of fans! IMHO, the Big East should just pull the trigger and invite East Carolina as a new, full member. Big East candidates that we hear about, Houston, Memphis, Central Florida, don't hold a candle to EC.

  37. That's not the book store? Ugh. The problem isn't the merchandise its the layout & decorum. We should close the fashion merchandising program if this is the best we can do.

  40. Texas has its QB spot up for grabs. They have Garrett gilbert jr, case McCoy so, Connor wood rs fr, and David ash true fr all competing for it. If Gilbert is named starter again rumor is Connor wood wants to transfer. Supposedly he is not enrolled in classes this summer. He was a four star recruit from houston second babtist HS. No matter who is named starter, one transfer is likely. Just something to keep an eye on as maybe we could snag one!

  43. These are sharp. I too, would love to see us with 3 jerseys and 3 pants. Something similar to what OSU has except in our color schemes would be perfect; though I'd rather have black than grey.

  44. I just got back from the store it is a lot smaller than I thought. I had no problem with the selection, there was a Nike Golf shirt that caught my eye but didn't want to pony up $60 so I settled for the Nike hat the was pictured in a previous thread. I talked to the nice lady working the counter and she said they are still in transition and that they will be getting more stuff soon. All I can say though is I am glad we switched to Nike. All of the Nike gear there was top of the line. Good stuff!

  46. SWEET! I like these a lot...Oklahoma State will play before a packed house in Stillwater and will, at least, look good doing it! Now, hopefully, they can do some damage in the newly constructed Big 12...er 10! GO POKES!!!!! BEAT ZERO U!!!!!!!! But, most of all...and even better...GO MEAN GREEN & WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED!!!!!!! Wondering if the UNT uniforms will look anything like these...except in green, of course????

  48. Had a co-worker stop me on my way to my desk today. He said "Hey man that new stadium of yours looks really good...I saw it from the highway" And in unrelated, but highly entertaining, news I got an email in my work inbox inviting me to fill out a form to request as many tickets as I want to SMU's home opener. Gotta admit, if we weren't opening a superior stadium that day I'd take in some free football...and root for UTEP.
