Riley Dodge is no quitter. That kid is one tough QB and has a good deal of character. Good luck to Riley. I hope he earns the #1 spot and sets records galore for his team. Appreciate all you did for the Mean Green.5 points

One night I dreamed a dream. I was walking along the beach with Hayden Fry. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from Mean Green football DVDs. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to me and one to Coach Fry. When the last scene at Fouts flashed before me I looked back at the footprints in the sand. There was only one set of footprints. I realized that this was at the lowest and saddest times of the program. This always bothered me and I questioned Coach about my dilemma. "Coach, You told me when I decided to follow You, You would coordinate conference advancement and refusing to lose all the way. But I'm aware that during the most troublesome periods of our program there is only one set of footprints and a few empty beer cans in the coaches office. I just don't understand why, when I need You most, You leave me." He whispered, "My precious child, I love the Mean Green more than Iowa and that crap hole SMU and will never leave you, never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you."4 points

By Steven Bartolotta, July 19, 2011, 11:44 a.m. A couple of TV watching reminders for everyone out there. Tonight CBS 11 and TXA 21 are going to have stories about the new stadium. CBS 11 will have, at least I'm told, stories on their 6 and 10 p.m. sportscasts tonight while TXA 21 is going to going live from the field at 8:30 for the first 10-15 minutes of their sports show. It continues tomorrow morning with Good Morning Texas going live at 6 a.m. on Channel 8 from the stadium. They will have RV on with them tomorrow morning. And before TV gets their shots of the new stadium, we here at meangreensports.com had a chance to shoot some video of the new stadium and that video is now up and can be seen just above this story. Keep an eye out for another video next week as we venture out into the seating area with views from the upper and lower bowls along with the wing.3 points

They practice law in Louisiana? I thought they just lined up and yelled insults about each other's family trees...made up and then ate some fried 'gator and drank some 'shine together. Who knew? Is it still based on the Napoleonic Code in Louisiana?2 points

Last Season's Stats: RUSHING: Dunbar: 274 attempts for 1553 (5.7 avg) yards and 13 TD's (TD per 21 touches) Rainey: 340 attempts for 1649 yards (4.9 avg) and 15 TD's (TD per 23 touches) RECEIVING: Dunbar: 28 catches for 332 yards (11.9 avg) and 3 TD's (TD per 9 every catches) Rainey: 29 catches for 230 yards (7.9 avg) and 0 TD's Sorry, but I have to agree with Lance. With all due respect to Bernard Jackson, Malcolm Jones, JaQuay Wilburn, Eric Pegram Hut Alred, Kevin Galbreath, Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas, Lance is the best back I've ever watched in a Mean Green uniform.2 points

You know... I'm not so sure SMU is going to oppose us. They are on an upswing in football and I don't know that they would consider us much of a threat to their interests even if we were in the same conference. It would give them a local game and more regional press. Also..consider this...I don't think SMU,Houston, Rice, UTEP, and Tulane would be too happy with a chance of a conference comprising in part UNT, TSU, UTSA, Lousiana Tech, ULL, and NMSU competing with them for TV $ and recruits. Taking us would help guard their flank.2 points

IMO, the odds are better that UTSA & Tx St. jump ship and join the SB once the WAC is disbanded.... La Tech is holding this whole thing up.... Truth is La Tech is no better than Ark St., NM St., Troy, Unt, etc.. they just think they belong with SMU, TCU, Houston, Rice, Tulsa etc.... The Wac will disband, Sunbelt will poach Tx St. and UTSA and La Tech will go Indy .... Anybody who thinks we are joining the WAC needs to look at a map.... we already did this once with the Big West, and it sucked monkey balls.... Sunbelt > WAC2 points

I have noticed several guys who post with Sig Ep logos attached. I want to connect with you guys and let you know about an event I am planning for the Indiana game. My goal is to spearhead an event that will bring some of the old alumni like myself (79-84)out to a game at the new stadium. We have had a good quick response and are expecting at a minimum around 100. These are guys who have not been to game in a long time. I hope seeing the new stadium and tailgate set up may lead to some of this crew making this a new tradition for us. I certainly want to get our area along side or close to the current brothers for some interaction. Would any of you guys like to coop this with another era of your buddies? This type of thing could be a blast if we could get someone like Rudy's to cater and find some activities to do together. Some of the guys on this board probably have some great tailgate ideas to share. To me it is game day stuff like this that will assist our program in gettng the support it needs. Since the tailgate scene has been started I have believed that this was what was needed to bring back old alums that remember games being a lukewarm event. The past was certainly nothing that would get you to bring your family up for an entire Saturday evening. Of course unless you were already a die hard fan. As fans we all have talked about us dragging others to a game with us but this I am hoping to spark interest from several who will see this as a great way to spend an afternoon at our game instead of watching others on tv and wishing we were that type of school. A school that supports its teams and provides a great venue and game day experiance.1 point

People who transfer from UNT are by definition quitters. People who transfer to UNT are wise young neb who have seen the errors of their previous choices. Either that or walk up to George Odufuwa, look at him straight in the eyes, and call him a quitter.1 point

Hats off to the SigEps for getting this going. If you have 100 alums back (with many having not attended a game in years) you are really doing something great for the Sept. 10th attendance and for future season ticket and game days sales as well i would imagine. The Greeks are a great source of school pride and spirit and I have been a bit sad to see their lack of support for athletics in general that last several years at UNT. That was definitely not the case in the "olden days" at UNT. VERY happy to see the spirit returning within the Greek community. A strong and supportive Greek community is indeed a good thing. Hats off to you for getting this going. It only takes a few people trying to do things positive for UNT and the Athletic department to get things going in a positive direction both now and into the future. Thanks for being one of those who are willing to help. GO MEAN GREEN!1 point

Right now, as I leave for lunch to go get a dead animal sandwich, 66.67% of the voters believe UNT will win 5 to 8 of its games. I think it's on! Let's break outta this mutha like a bunch of people hiding in a trojan horse who get pulled into a city after the city people think the ships of their enemy have sailed away, but some of the enemies are hiding in the trojan horse and come out later after the Tonight Show with Jay Leno when everyone is good and asleep and open up the city gates and let the rest of the enemies, who are their friends, into the city to kill and destroy their real enemies, who at the beginning of this sentence were just people in a city who found a big, wooden horse and rolled it back into their city as a souvenir of victory, but which became, ironically, a terrible instrument of doom. Let us become that terrible and ironic instrument of doom that as of 11:53 a.m. Central Standard Time on July 19, 2011, 66.67% of voters in a sports poll who care think we can be!1 point

Other than CUSA's private schools, particularly Rice, I see North Texas as at least an equal to any of their state schools. Plus, I suspect we have more top rated programs than any of them and not just including music.1 point

So, we have one 2011-2012 scholarship left, and are somewhat depleted at center with the departure of Ben Knox. This player may be able to address that deficiency: BATON ROUGE – LSU men’s basketball player Garrett Green has decided to transfer to pursue graduate degree opportunities elsewhere, head coach Trent Johnson announced on Monday afternoon. In 2010-11, he averaged 6.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, while shooting 44.8% from the field. Green averaged 18.0 minutes per game and also led the team in rebounding eight times during the course of the year. As a graduate transfer, the 6-11" 230-lb center will be immediately eligible for the 2011-2012 season. Green to transfer out of LSU Garrett Green Bio1 point

The only thing I completely disagree with is the hypocrisy showing from both sides. Obama voted no during bush years on budget ceiling and people like Cantor approved the ceiling without demanding any spending cuts at a time when spending was out of control. Now Cantor acts like he is dying by having to vote yes to raise the debt ceiling. I think some compromise has to occur by both sides. Republican cuts need to be made but income taxes do not need to be raised in exchange for the cuts. I would however compromise with Democrats and support closing some tax loopholes or lowering certain tax deductions in exchange for the drastic cuts that need to be made.1 point

If UCF leaves, Florida is no longer a viable state for CUSA. It makes no sense to stay in that saturated market with no rivals for FIU. UNT is the best option for CUSA if UCF leaves. It is a perfect fit for a Houston/SMU/Rice/Tulsa/UNT rivalry.1 point
-
If UCF is taken by the Big East, C-USA would almost certainly want to keep a team in Florida. The problem is I don't know if they really like FAU or FIU. Neither brings very good attendance. FIU would add the Miami market, but even the Caines have trouble filling their seats. Is Boca really a market C-USA covets? Yes SMU may be an issue. The biggest thing we as fans can do is to fill the stands and travel well to regional games. We have to bring more fans to our games then SMU. If we can sell out our games, and average around 30,000 for the season, and travel well to near by road games, North Texas will be in the mix. It starts with Houston. whether we win that game or not, selling it out, and showing Houston's administration what great pride we take in supporting our Mean Green, could go a long way towards swaying the opinion of C-USA in favor of North Texas. Remember C-USA is headquartered in DFW. I bet their commissioner will be here for the game. The second part is the Mean Green Nation needs to travel to Tulsa and and help them post one of their top 2 attendance games of the season. If we can do that, the C-USA office will notice.1 point

I don't envy the WAC. But, they are having their crap kicked in by the illegal BCS-system, so I've got to grit my teeth and wish them success. That being said, the Big East should extend us an invitation before it's too late and the Big 12 (with 10 schools) snaps us up.1 point

and neither are the topics of Mike Leach, UTA to the WAC, and NCAA punishment of Ga Tech. Those are posted on the front page of this fourm but no outrage about them posted here. Why the outrage? I cant figure it out. Maybe people should read the article. It main topic is that UTSA isn't going to have as easy a time making it as they hope. Of course this is GoMeanGreen.com where any post about a FCS college in Texas doing anything is bound to be followed by posting on how said college is "passing us by"1 point

Here's potentially the best player available in the nation, and potentially the biggest risk: 6-8 225 lb Power Forward Karron Johnson of Midland College (well, sort of Midland College, because he got kicked off the team in November). Karron Johnson ESPN Profile Rivals had Karron Johnson as the nation's top rated junior college player before the season. Had signed with Oklahoma State but was released from his LOI after OSU signed high school superstar Lebryan Nash No known legal troubles. The kid is said to be an NBA type talent, but has been plagued throughout his career by an "adviser" that has constantly had him switching high schools and colleges. The kid is very good at basketball, available, and plays a position where we have a need. He also has an established track record of constantly transferring and twice having been suspended from juco teams and even kicked off the team at Midland. Could Johnny get this player to reach his potential? Is there too much risk of distractions caused by a rogue player? Is there already too much risk of players potentially not being eligible next season and therefore making another such player not worth the effort? Karron Johnson, but his mentor, James Black. . “Karron feels like when he was going through his trials and tribulations the only people that stuck with him through everything were Travis Ford and Butch Pierre,” Black said, referring to the Cowboys’ head coach and assistant. “They never gave up on him. He feels he needs to be loyal to them.” (Travis Ford at OSU has since released Johnson from his LOI) Johnson has two years of Division 1 eligibility, but Black believes Johnson is so good that he could end up spending just one season at Oklahoma State before possibly going pro. “Most likely he’ll only do one year at Oklahoma State,” Black said. “Karron’s going to be one of the premier players in college next year.” Black said Johnson was also working hard in the class room and on his maturity to get things together. “He has been working really hard on and off the court,” Black said. “He has really grown up.”1 point

Do you see that beautiful stadium being built right there? Canales said, pointing to the skeleton of the new football stadium. Id sure like to be a part of that, because this place is going nowhere but up. This is a gold mine thats ready to take off. Throughout his coaching career, Canales has built a reputation as a man who was able to recruit among top schools, snatching talent away from the likes of Florida State, Miami and Florida.1 point
