It was pointed out to me by the great SUMG that the recent edition of The North Texan lists under upcoming events a watch party for UNT at FIU game on Thursday Sept. 1.... Mean Green vs. Florida International Watch Party: Come to UNT's new Mean Green Stadium Sept. 1 to watch the first football game of the season as the Mean Green plays FIU in Miami. I believe this game will be broadcast on ESPN3 (webcast). Will there be local TV too, anyone know?2 points

FIBA does their championships a little weird. The next three games for the USA are: July 4th - Canada July 5th - Lithuania July 6th - Croatia We are in a group with those three teams (that progressed through group C) and the two other teams (Egypt and Serbia) that advanced from our group. The results from the first round spill over, INCLUDING the results against teams eliminated from the tournament. In our case that game is the win against China, and for the teams from group C, their games against Korea count toward this next stage. The teams froms groups A and B are in a six team group of their own, and the top 4 teams from each group progress to the knockout round. Due to the USA being the only team left undefeated in the tournament, we are currently at the top of Group F. Canada appears to be pretty bad...we all know Lithuania is good because they beat us last week, and Croatia took down Lithuania in the first game in group C, so they must have a decent team as well. Here is a link to the standings going into this next stage: FIBA Website2 points

I've been up in Lawton since last week to celebrate the 4th, and visit the in-laws. I've been wearing a lot of North Texas shirts around town. We need all the exposure we can get.2 points

Hard to field a college football team without High School players! (In Texas) Some people like to read up on their commitments/prospects. Some like to see where they may rank vs. others. Sorry to have offended you this Sunday morning!2 points

Interesting concept, but I don't think it's the current MGC members who don't "care enough" to cover the scholarships. They ARE donating and they ARE doing what they can to help cover the costs of scholarships. What is needed is for a lot of the folks who are not MGC members and who do not donate to step up and help as best they can. It's not on the backs of the current members who are helping. It's on those who are not!2 points

"The trend we are setting is signing players from winning cultures and high school programs." I believe I heard a recent coach say this.1 point

The media has its share of conservative douches and liberal douches. Not sure what the fuss is about. If more people were just in the middle moderate I think it would be great. Just my thought.1 point

I think this is a very polite and rationed statement. For a high school student.1 point

Foreshadowing quote by DD in the article regarding the offense: "This may not sell a lot of tickets, but if we can't run the ball we can't win." Hey, he called it from Game 1 - he lived with the run, and died with the run.1 point

We really need a jersey with interchangeable numbers, so that way when 12 of our players get hurt like last year we can just simply change the number.1 point

Reese, the UNT spokeswoman, said at this point the university is less concerned about its logos, which were created in 2005 for $150,000, and instead will evaluate how the current ones fit in with the new brand. “We are less concerned about the graphic idea of the brand, but we’ll look at it,” she said. I don't want them messing with the SOW logo again. Anytime a firm is paid to look at something it seems they feel a need to change something to show they looked at it.0 points

Most UH fans are good people who support their school. They have a few delusional fans that think they are better than they are. For example this guy on coogfans. coog57 Heisman winner Rating: 2.8/5 this site 16953 posts this site Ignore this Member Send Private Message Posted: 6/30/2011 6:50 PM Re: Houston, we're gettin' ready for ya ! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Very nice stadium. We want one like that but twice as nice and twice as big. The only problem with this comment is they would need a stadium that seats 60k fans. Other than the 2007 Texas Bowl, UH hasn't played in front of 60K fans in Houston since the 1977 UT game at Rice Stadium. Heck since 1976, they have only averaged 22K fans per season. Maybe UH has finally turned the corner after the 2010 season in regards to fan support but I seriously doubt they will ever need a stadium that seats 60K fans. Before NTX slams me, please know that he will accuse me of being someone else even though a couple mods over at the BE expansion boards have acknowledged I'm not who NTX thinks I am. I have a degree from a Big 12 school and I'm seeking a 2nd degree from UNT. I look forward to opening the stadium with UH and hope/wish that UNT can hang close with the coogs and eek a victory.0 points

Critical?!?! I said "look at the bright side" didn't I? And for the record, poking fun at you takes no effort at all. Notice I said fun? Nothing negative there.......0 points

I plan on being at the UH game and hopefully a couple of other UNT games. I made it to the UNT spring game so I might as well go to some more real games.0 points

Funny how we all see things they way that we want to see them. And I'd bet that if you did the research, you would find that Americans have felt this way about the news media for much longer than Fox has been around. But, it's always easier to demonize something than to admit to oneself that one's opinion may not be shared by the majority.0 points

Why are they mutually exclusive topics? A criticism of Palin doesn't have to be an endorsement of Obama.-1 points

Agree - that is why it is worth mentioning that even a retard like Lupica can reason his way around and figure out why she is a terrible option for Republicans.-1 points

Get one of them pregnant in a few years and then we can compare and contrast. Everyone is just pissy they are too young to be fair game because the last couple of presidents had great teen-aged comic fodder.-1 points

I like this post because it captures the Spurs and Mavs fanbases perfectly. For the Spurs, a basic ignorance of the rules of the game and how the record is kept and for the Mavs, an over-celebration of a meaningless record.-1 points

This couldn't possibly be everyone, afterall, because I was assured by AD Dept staff that there wasn't enough time after hours and on the weekends to get them all accommodated before opening day? Rick-1 points

Honestly, does it really matter what he did? It truly doesn't to me. Bottomline: McCarney set standards and expectations. Carey violated those expectations and standards. Mac had no choice but to follow thru with consequences laid out. Again, it's worrisome on so many levels, for the student-athlete and our offensive production, but I have no worries that Coach made the right decision and ultimately did what's best for the program.-1 points

Getting yourself kicked off a team is the same as quitting. Adios Darius. We don't need quitters.-1 points

Unless this is a recruiting tool, there is no possible justification for Marines spending their time conducting workouts for a university's football team.-1 points

Good Programs use discretion. He violated team rules. That's the explanation. Dismissing your returning leading receiver, a sr, set's a tone throughout the program that reverberates all the way to each recruit and their parents and potential recruits.-1 points

I think you'll find most Coog fans to be friendly and reasonable, especially if you're friendly and reasonable. If you're a jerk, especially on an opponent's site, you can expect the same to be returned. There will be exceptions as there are with every fan base, but if you show respect with Coog fans, you'll get it from most in return.-1 points

That quote not only foreshadowed his commitment to the running game, but also his lack of commitment to fans and alumni.-1 points

Counting on a true freshman to not only start, but produce the numbers Carey did last year is a recipe for disaster. Maybe the answer is on the roster, maybe it isn't. But this isn't the answer. Losing Carey will hurt this team, no if, ands, or buts about it. As for everything you said about the coaching staff, I hope (and think) you are right. Coaching can overcome a lot in this conference, which is why I am still hanging onto hope for a 5 win season.-1 points

And, anyone who believes your post wasn't a shot and negative, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to talk to them about buying. It is what it is, and it takes no intelligence at all to figure out your motives....usually critical and/or negative...but carry on. Look at the bright side, Silver, your negativeness is nothing unusual...see I said, bright side too. Funny, isn't it? "Funny", now how could that be negative, right?-2 points

Hi NTX. Good to see you again. Now that you have slammed me for pointing out facts that can be backed up by your media guide, can you dispute anything I said? NTX is correct. I am getting a 2nd degree at UNT and the UH game will possibly be the only UNT athletic event that I attend in the near future. It's not that UH is a big name opponent, it's that I hope/wish for UNT to pull the upset in the opening of the new stadium. Since you brought up stadium funding, has UH finished securing financing for the new stadium? Have several posters on Coogfans laughed at UNT's stadium? NTX, I do not wish to get into a war of words with you on this site or any other. I was respectful in both of my posts and I hope you can do the same.-3 points
