  1. Jelon Hornbeak 6'4 185 pds SG 2012 High School : Arlington Grace Prep AAU : Texas PRO Rivals # 64 on it's top 150 Rivals # 10 on it's top SGs ESPN evaluation : Hornbeak is a smooth operator on the floor for his age. He's highly skilled with the ball which makes for very efficient play on the offensive end. He has range out to 25' both off the dribble and catch. I think he prefers the ball in his hands, but is more than capable of coming off screens for jump shots. When the ball is in his hands good things happen. He sees the floor with vision and can deliver pinpoint passes. His handle allows him to get inside the defense to score on floaters in the lane and shots at the rim. Took unofficial visit to UNT on 06/27/11

  7. Linked is a thread from Cyclone Fanatic discussing Coach Mac. I thought some of you might find this interesting. As usual, when the subject of Coach Mac comes up, we Cyclone fans start arguing. It's great... http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/football/122605-coach-dmac-rivals-com-homepage.html

  8. first of all, it wouldn't be like ANY radio stations in the metroplex if it played indie rock and supported local music. KXT's format is too broad, and KTCU's signal is weak and their programming is all over the map. so you'd have that working for you... ummm... yes. we should. nothing against the wind symphony, but if you want the students to be more wired into what's going on around campus with events, games, etc. (which, i would argue, would have A DIRECT effect on school pride and campus morale) you need to give them a reason to listen. appealing to approximately 19 of 'em ain't gonna cut it and not everyone takes the time to read the campus newspaper everyday. besides, why is it a college's job tob to provide "culture" to students and the surrounding community via their radio station? isn't that what class is for? come to think of it, wouldn't it benefit the university if the radio station appealed to not only current students, but prospective students as well if ANY of the 18-25 demo actually tuned in? and what, by the way, defines "culture"? why is a 4-piece rock band less worthy of being considered "culture" than the wind symphony? "art" is as subjective a term as "culture" is. it doesn't matter if it takes 52 people to play a 30 minute piece or 1 person to play for 30 seconds, you nor i have the right to say one is more deserving of praise and recognition than the other. there are a lot of college radio stations around this country that play independent artists and support their local music/art scenes, why do you suppose they're not as concerned with "providing culture"? maybe they are in a since of what "culture" really means? maybe their students listen and are tied into what's happening on campus AND the surrounding community? i'm probably crazy here, but i don't think preserving culture is any more important than allowing it to progress.

  12. Right, it was used as a rep for confederate regiments in Texas, and had a good history behind it. I guess my point is, if your from Texas and want to take some kind of pride in being Texan and want to show your southern pride, what's wrong with the Lone Star Flag. Why would anyone in Texas want to fly the Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia...ie "The Rebel Flag"? Rick

  14. Whats the big deal? The Texas Confederate flag that many regiments used to represent themselves during the War Between the States has already been on license plates for years. In fact it's flying in front of every government and school building in the state. It's just that we call it the Lone Star Flag. Rick

  17. After reading much criticism surrounding our season ticket sales efforts, I thought I'd provide some assurance that we have some people in the department doing a good job. I joined the Facebook event group for the first game at the new stadium I suggest you 'attend" as well , and posted that I would be buying 8 season tickets this coming week. Soon after posting I received a message from an Elizabeth Laupus, a ticket sales rep in the dept. I assume she had clicked on my profile and saw I was a recent grad, so she made sure I knew about the recent grad program. After I replied telling her I was aware, she then pitched the Mean Green Club to me and made me aware of a new MGC program for recent grads. "The MGC parking passes will be at Victory Hall by the stadium. We have a progressive plan for new graduates. If you graduated in: 2011 - $25 2010 - $50 2009 - $75 2008 - $100 2007 - $150 You will progressively move up the ladder each year until you are no longer a "Young Alumni" and would move into the $250 MGC plan. " I was not aware of this and will definitely be joining, well worth my $50 (2010 grad). Hopefully this will encourage more recent grads to buy in. There are currently 3,721 people attending this event on Facebook, I'm sure I am not the only one that has been sold on the MGC or season tickets as a result.

  18. This makes sense. Why have different names for mens & women's teams? "Mean Green" seems pretty ubiquitous to me. As long as Scrappy is around, we'll be represented by an eagle. Mean Green Eagles! There are a few things to piss, moan, & complain about with our traditions, but this should not be one.

  19. I sorta agree with this statement and I think it's a reason why student participation is low on campus when it comes to student organizations and athletic events. When you have a bunch of kids coming to your school just because its the only one they could afford or its close to home you're going to have a harder time getting them involved compared to a kid who had in interest in the school since they were little.

  28. Mitchell is a 3 at the next level but I believe he will play at the 4 for us. His length gives him the ability to play the five if needed at moments but that doesn't appear to be his game.....and go to the rec and watch him play, you will rethink him not being a "go-to" guy

  29. Seen him play in person. He's legit on D, needs a little work on his post moves. Would start for us as a freshman if he came.

  32. Skynard, man. Skynard. I'm certainly proud to be from the south, and very proud to be from Texas. I had several distant relatives fight/die for the Confederacy (Gen. A.S. Johnston @ Shiloh among others), and I'm proud of them too. All that said, I couldn't justify flying the rebel flag, or even having it on a license plate because of what it has come to mean today. Today, it's equated with white-supremecy, ignorance, and hate (and toothlessness).

  33. I'm not talking at all about what happened on the field. We could have won 2-0 and I still would have been upset that 90%+ of the crowd was rooting for Mexico. Many of them are probably even American citizens. What the players have said is that the "away" crowd does not bother them, but that it sure would be nice to play in front of a true home crowd...some of them felt that atmosphere in Kansas City, which is a pretty pro-American soccer city, but we happened to be playing Guadaloupe. If we had been playing Mexico, they would have had a majority. It is not like the Mexican fans were even classy. I have read American fans that were at the game on Saturday were called every racial slur you could think of (Spanish and English), and when they were celebrating the USA goals, they has drinks thrown on them, and stuff like that. All of that happening in our own country. I think that is something to be upset about, and it transcends just soccer...but is certain relevant to the discussion of the Gold Cup.

  34. Dude, you proved my point. Our mascot is an eagle, and our school nickname (what your teams go by) is the Mean Green. Our nickname was the eagles, but didn't the school officially change it to the Mean Green in the early 2000's?

  38. While our campus can improve aesthetically it is a lot better today than it was when I started in 2004 and left in 2007. And the UT Austin campus is very very meh at best. But people won't criticize it because its...well its UT Austin.

  39. Once more we have a classic example of posters with differences of opinion getting called out. Lets face it...that's all it is. Do you honestly think that because I happen to agree with the article it means I don't care for UNT as much as you or the next person? The problem with "half glass full" people is that nothing ever changes because they are always "believing" or making up the "greatness" of the current state of things. I support UNT but also think that it could be a much better place.
