For those who were there saw first hand the Hall to Quinn connection at Fouts for the very last time. I knew it wasn't going to be fair, but damn it was fun to see those guys go at it one more time. Thank you to Kram1 and his bride for putting on a first class event. I hope we raised the bar this year in fund raising, and from the crowd that showed, we may have done just that. Thank you to the Hiatt's for cooking some great barbecue. Thank you to the refs, Texas Stranger and UNTFlyer, for giving up one of their days to help keep us all in line. Thank you to the GMG.com board players for having the nerve to get out there in the heat and mix it up with ex college and pro's on the same field. We have some great athletes on this board for sure. Thank you to RV for the stadium tour afterwards. Hearing our voices bounce off the student section from our seats on the home side just blew me away? This is going to be one of the best places in the state of Texas to watch a football game. And thank you to all the great players who participated and gave us one more memory to take away for a lifetime today. We owe you guys for the great times, the great memories, and mostly, for the beautiful new stadium across the road. If it were not for you, Andy Blount, Weston Thaggard, Scott Hall, Johnny "The Mighty" Quinn, Montey Stevenson, Luke Condor, Cody Spencer and of course Andrew Smith and all the rest, if it were not for you we wouldn't have it in the first place. Im certain of that. Thank you so much again to everyone involved. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again soon. It's All Green and All Good! This would be fine if the athletic dept was more "responsive" to concerns regarding tailgating....or anything else for that matter. Being too critical you say? Let me just copy and paste a response from a long time supporter of this program, who responded to my question regarding their current concerns about the athletic department. "I have had my run-ins with this AD for many years. Mostly it is over left hand telling me something and then right hand telling me the other. It always got in my way of planning stuff (since I am out of town). How can I tell my friends to drive in from Austin and tailgate with me when I can't reliably tell them where to find me (festival parking). Then we get the permission to tailgate in the grass by the fields, but have the parking crew up my ass every weekend and the AD would never have it sorted out. I used to have 20 some season ticket holders for tailgating.. Slowly they got frustrated with the whole ordeal and they stopped coming. Somehow I became responsible for their displeasure and no matter how many times I told the AD staff what was happening and how they were losing people, they never cared. Ever. My parent-in-laws never ONCE got their parking badge on the correct side.. every year they tried to sort it out, but never could. So we stopped tailgating three years ago and I stopped asking my friends to buy season tickets (and hyping up game day). It is now just my wife and I and my in laws that come to the game. And it may seem minor, but every damn year they wouldn't have my seat backs setup . I would have to call EVERY year to have them install them.. about the 2nd or 3rd game in... every year. To a woman, that is a big deal, and to my pregnant wife it was an even more big deal. ...and these are people who purchased club level seating AND made a sizable donation to the stadium fund. These people donate at a level where they were visited at their home in Oklahoma City by the TAMS people asking for a donation. Just to repeat THEY (TAMS) DROVE UP TO OKLAHOMA CITY TO TALK WITH THEM ABOUT DONATING!! How many of you MGC members/season ticket holders even get a phone call from the AD dept. asking about how things are going and if there is anything they can do for you? Now, I'm not posting this stuff because I've had a lot of problems with the Athletic Department (other than having to deal with Mandy McKinley for several years)or that I'm disgruntled about some imagined slight. I'm just posting this to let you know that your confidence in the athletic department about getting anything sorted out in a timely manner regarding tailgating is (at the very least) very misplaced. Small wonder Mo Green (who donates more than twice what the couple above gives) is raising the issue and is very concerned. Personally I think he's been too patient all these years.2 points

If a zero or low value is placed on life, then by all means this is a horrible deal. Pretty funny that republicans (I'm independent for the record) cry wolf when clean-air initiatives such as wind turbines kill birds, but when clean air acts are proposed that would save human life that they are rejected to save corporate profits and jobs. "Cutting ozone pollution using the Clean Air Act will have saved $2 trillion by 2020 and prevented at least 230,000 deaths annually, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said in a report. Tougher emission restrictions adopted in 1990 helped avoid more than 160,000 premature deaths, 130,000 heart attacks, 13 million lost work days and 1.7 million asthma attacks last year, according to today'sreport, which measured only the impact of amendments from 1990. By 2020, complying with the amendments would prevent 200,000 heart attacks, 17 million lost work days and 2.4 million asthma attacks, according to the report."2 points

One thing not mentioned about the size is how close the scoreboard is to the stands. Some of those others may be larger but are farther away from the people. It will look bigger because you are closer to it. At least that's what I tell my wife. Wait, What?2 points

I was just told by Thomas Sitton, the Head Coach/AD at Chapel Hill High School (just outside of Tyler), that UNT has offered three of its soon-to-be seniors: Rex Rollins - running back Andrew Tucker - running back and brother of Matthew Tucker, back at TCU Sir Calvin Wallace - a defensive lineman (tackle, if I remember correctly) So where is the connection from Chapel Hill to UNT? I quote from his email to me: "Coach Jeremy Loyd our WR coach played for Coach McCarney at Iowa State and just loves him". What got me started on this was the item in Vito's Blog today that said Chapel Hill was a stop on UNT's summer camps schedule (little ole Chapel Hill, a country, 3-A school among all of the big communities mentioned in the blog) - so I emailed Thomas and asked for details of when the camp would be at Chapel Hill. Wednesday, June 15 4 - 8 PM Sitton will have some athletes in the next few years that are going to be something else. Hopefully, our Mean Green get their share.1 point

It's gonna be epic if we can beat these guys 3 games in a row. But I am smelling blood. Mavs need to do this. "I have a feeling The German will have Monster game tonight..." - Steve Nash1 point

Thanks to everyone for the kind words...it was, indeed a blast. best ever GoMeanGreen.Com Bowl. Watch out next year...how do we top this one? Final score was 25-13 for the White team, but, in reality it was a pretty darn close match-up for the vast majority of the game. Yes, it was warm, but there were plenty of players so everyone had a chance to come in and out as they needed/wanted. Great to see all the GMG.Com'ers and the ex-players mixing it up. If you couldn't have some great Mean green fun at this event, then you just can't have fun. I had an absolute GREAT time. So very many people to thank. I'll start a thread when i have a bit more time with thanks and fund-raising totals...have to collect from the auction, but will add those totals in...I am all but certain that we surpassed our goal of a net of $1500.00. Thanks to everyone...photos here look great! Man, good times...good times...godd food and beer as well. Thanks to RV for making it out and setting up the stadium tour. GO MEAN GREEN...thanks to Kevin Kokjohn and Rhey Nolan for coming out to watch and bid as well. Lots of folks out to watch in the heat, so the bit of breeze was really nice...I hope you got to see the mini helmet that Jason Hiatt had signed by all the players present yesterday...way cool. I simply cannot thank everyone enough...see you next year for GMG.Com Bowl 9! GO MEAN GREEN!1 point

They should go D1A and play in the LoneStar Conf. Bulk up the program and enrollment before going to the WAC. They have to remember the attendance numbers and cost of travel before considering an offer.1 point

Thank guys, that was a fun game! It was great to catch one of Scott Hall's passes and to play alongside Johnny Quinn. By the way, we planned that last play of the first half. When we lined up at the 10 with only time for one more play, I said to Johnny, "We're going to have to run one of those Boise State hook and laterals to do this." He told me to stay close. Problem: after he caught the ball he cut all the way to the other side of the field...and I'm too damn old and slow to keep up with him! So, he had to throw the ball all the way across the field to me. After running a few yards and pitching back to Scott Hall, I got tangled up with some green teamers and bit the dust. It was a nice play...and almost worked! It was a lot of fun. My wife and kids had fun as well. Thanks for making us feel welcome. This is something we'll plan to do for as long as we keep doing it. The cause is right and it's a good time. Thanks again.1 point

Hey everyone, I'm new to this board and I have a lot to share. Cam Feldt is a 4 star transfer OT from the University of Arkansas, he is a Texas native. He was voted one of the top 50 freshmen in the SEC last season. Due to personal reasons he has transferred and will play ball for UNT. This kid is an outstanding player and the Eagles are lucky to have him! I attended the University of Arkansas for 3 years and then moved home to Dallas and transferred to UNT so I am a huge Hog fan and now a Mean Green fan. I look forward to posting more. Here is Cam Feldts rivals profile from 2010. Go Green http://rivals.yahoo.com/arkansas/football/recruiting/player-Cam-Feldt-84716;_ylt=ApbLxUtzFvA2sqTRSS4ppkXzq5B41 point

Please tell me how being LEED certified is going to help our stadium beat more football teams. Aside from being a point of pride for students and alumns of The University of North Texas, the new stadium doesn't mean anything if we don't win it. The students and alumns from other schools could care less if the score doesn't change. I hope that we all didn't just get better sight-lines to a 7th season in a row of terrible football.1 point

With the addition of the new parking lot next to the athletic dorm parking lot, there will be double the spaces available for tailgating. I've been to the site and honestly, I think there will be more then enough spots against the green belt for anyone who wants one. I'm fine with RV's plan. I think he has a better understanding of how it will work then we do right now. If it is a problem, then we could always revisit this topic next offseason.1 point
-
DPS would only allow an entrance off of the service road into the lot if UNT agreed not to number the spots. DPS was concerned about traffic backing up on the service road as people entered the lot and waited to get to their particular spot. I was told you will be able to park anywhere you want in the lot up to 1 1/2 hours before the game. After that, it will be festival style parking. Must admit, not really following how this is related to past coaching hires.1 point

So it's basically a return to the late-Dickey era helmet (assuming this is it), right? Even the green looks similar. I hate myself for replying to this thread.1 point

I'm going to be really unhappy if the helmets in the videos we've seen are the actual helmets. What a half ass job. The same helmet circa 05-06, with an added black stripe. I would take the white helmets over that any day!1 point

-- He died on drugs and did play for Landry but all his problems I have heard of about him was after Landry was gone.. The same can be said of Nate Newton... Landry got rid of Lance Renzel in a week and many more were gone at season's end if not sooner. . --- Any one hear Dale Hanson's comment... "Now that he (Glenn) has been charged expect him to be activated on the Cowboys roster by next Tuesday." ....hahahaha1 point

---Most don't... Most athletes that get into trouble were raised in bad neighborhoods where those kinds of actions are fairly common. I am also convinced that is why some of dress like pimps and drug dealers...(big diamonds in ears for example). Their examples of the "rich" guys in the neighborhood dressed that way and not like the typical wealthy businessmen. They just don't get it. A lot of them despite how much money they have made are completely broke within five years. ---Some are very talented but in my opinion a team in the long run may be better off without them unless they straighten up quickly and become more mainstream. We don't need to have Ivy league types but we sure don't need stupid either. Some teams don't have many of these problems because they just don't draft or sign guys with bad historys. --Guys with serious problems when Landry was around disappeared quickly.1 point

can anyone tell me how much the donation bricks were for the new stadium? i cant find my letter. i believe there were three levels. thanks0 points

I looked at all of the collegiate items they had at their site and most of them were just funny looking symbols (birds, tigers, etc.) or maybe a couple of letters (OU, WV, etc.). I just couldn't figure out what schools these symbols were for because they didn't have the name spelled out. /sarc0 points

On paper I think this kid looks good. His ability to rebound and 3+ assists per game impress me the most. I also hope we are able to pick up a monster big man with the last ship. I like basketball, but after the way last season ended, and with the talent coming in, I'm really looking forward to next season. If Dodge were still here, and we were not opening our new football stadium, I'd be ready to start playing now.0 points

I think this kids adds what many consider to be a necessary complexion to our offensive attack. Now I want JJ to get after the biggest, meanest, monster that we can sign for the power forward / center position with the final scholarship. 6-8 230 lb school-hopping Karron Johnson may no longer be available as both West Virginia and Iowa State are competing for his services, but there are certainly other capable impact players out there without accepting 'roster filler'. Remember, if you can't get them into school, then they will not hurt your APR score. If you can get them eligible, their contribution may be the difference that would get the team though games like UALR in the conference tournament, and possibly even further.0 points

May be a spare part, but his juco numbers were twice as good as last year's one man recruiting class. Not sure how valid your observations are based on a small amount of You Tube. Obviously, not highly sought after being available this late in the recruiting process, but a low post player with any kind of game is apparently the best they can do. I just hope he wants to be a post player and not another big man with visions of three pointers. He did led Lon Morris in rebounding but if you are to believe the stats reported, he only shoot 40% and hoisted up 87 threes only shooting 24%. Not exactly what this team needs.0 points

Great game and lots of fun. Thanks a lot to Mark for all the work he puts into this. I vote we play this game at the Kibbie Dome next year. Next year Johnny's TDs are worth 3 points and he has to wear a weight vest, that guy is a bullet.0 points

Another Man vs. Environment Liberal Man vs. Environment wants to save all the little animals to endure higher energy costs by stating there are other ways to provide energy while stating they are against coal, nuclear, gas, oil, and wind. There is always something that environmental groups, use as talking points, use to persuade the people to negate these power sources. Conservative Man vs. Environment says screw the little animals that live in these areas because, in reality, these locations are just a geographic pin prick on the face of the earth. Who really cares if a few birds fly and suffer pain as they fall to the ground after flying into windmills? Who really cares if a few fish die in some unknown bay because of some accidental oil spill? Proponents, before the Alaskan Pipeline began, stated that this would be an economic disaster with scores upon scores of wildlife suffering death. Just the opposite. These critters like to gather around these pipes for a little heat every now and then and the heards are increasing. Some "friggin'" toad in West Texas is delaying drilling. Conservatives say...screw the toad I want cheaper gas. Some Northwest owl held up lumber production in Washington and Oregon and took years of court battles and millions of dollars to resolve. Lumber companies finally won.....what happened to the owls that lived in these areas. They migrated to a different section of the Northwest where the trees were not being cut. That is what animals do.......man endangers their area....they just move. Kinda like man.... IMHO, I would rather have cheaper fuel than saving some little critter that I have never seen and would not go see in the forest or desert.-1 points

You don't get it. It doesn't matter whether it works or not, it only matters whether it helps us feel good about ourselves. You know, look what WE are doing to save the earth from OURSELVES. WE are so much more enlightened than those who don't believe as we do.-1 points

Are yall really debating about what should be on the HELMET??? 4 pages about helmets, really. In fairness, I don't care that wind turbines kill birds. I only care when the turbines are killing birds around the new stadium. Other than that, put 1,000,000,000,000,000 wind turbines in West Texas, for all I care. Giving the EPA unlimited power is a recipe for disaster (as is giving any governement agency that power). This is what this administration has done and another reason I will be voting for anyone else for President next year (huge surprise, I know).,-1 points
