  1. Why do UNT fans insist on going over to other forums and posting stadium pics and saying how UNT would be a great expansion member? I don't understand it. It's embarrassing and then they get into arguments with the other posters about how many ponds it has and where the grass is, etc. Not a good idea.

  3. To be honest, that whole thread is about as douchebaggy as any thread here when talk of UT San Antonio joining the Sun Belt arises. You simply can't blame any outsiders for their current views of UNT football as it has proven absolutely awful over the past several years. Win a few games, and you'll see those douche bag attitudes on other boards change. As for the winged endzone, should I go look up the old threads here about how much people hated the idea? Of course, now that it's built and it's "ours," it's innovative and unique. When I drive by it, I do think it looks interesting. I don't think it translates well in construction photos. Bottom line: Those guys are gonna talk the talk until UNT football can walk the walk and start winning some games against them. Step 1: Win Sun Belt games Step 2: Win an OOC game or two Step 3: ???? Step 4: Profit

  6. Let's stop dancing around the inevitable: if the dimensions aren't exactly as expected, some of ya'll are gonna tee up the AD and be upset it isn't exactly as they said it would be, right? Truthfully (and this isn't meant as a flame), I think the difference between some fans and others is those that take things as gospel/promises vs. those that don't. This results in a rift because some of you think you've been betrayed. I may be alone, but I don't feel that way. I really don't know what will turn of all this. I just don't care for drama. If we are the 4th largest instead of the 3rd largest screen in Texas, I don't think recruits are going to hold that against us.

  9. No disrespect to Fouts...I have a lot of time and memories tied up there, but it really is an eyesore with all the terrible advertising panels, etc.

  10. There's an easy fix for this. Just paint a sign on the front that says: North Texas Intermural Field The biggest non-varsity student rec field in America.

  11. Yes, Fouts Field has warts. We should not lose sight (no pun intended) of where we have been so that we can fully appreciate where we are at this moment. Fouts will always bring back great memories, and admittedly some not so great, but honor our heritage.

  15. I guess we could win more games if football played the same teams that basketball plays. What should we think of all those ex-conference teams going to better conferences (idea: think athletic & school administrations)? None of them said anything about hiring two HS football coaches in the last 20 years. We DODGED that bullet ;-)

  17. Fouts looks like an old stadium with lots of history. I guess many of you think the monstrosities at UT and OU are picturesque. Hell, that coliseum in Rome is an eyesore too.

  18. i know how dated the pit is, but for some reason that place is still a temple to me. Most likely due to mostly good memories... High school graduation, college graduation, odufa-who?

  19. This really makes me sad. To think that these protesters would purposely disrupt a Special; Olympics event with their personal agendas is just beyond my scope of imagination. How far we have fallen as a citizenry when this sort of thing happens and those that participate in it think it is just "right and proper". So selfish, so egotistical as to be shocking. If you, like me, have volunteered to work these Special Olympic events, you know how special they are to the participants and their families. To have a bunch of self-centered jack asses disrupt the events is beyond my scope of imagination. I hope they are very proud of themselves because the majority of the country is probably pretty disgusted. If they think this sort of thing actually helps their cause, I would think that they are very sadly mistaken indeed. Stupid is as stupid does...this was BIG TIME STUPID on the part of the "protesters". This ranks right up there with that Kansas church (if you can really call it a church) group who protests at military funerals. Disgusting by any sort of measurement! Grow up people and show a little respect and class! EDIT: If this post is worthy in some one's mind of a -1 then I am very proud indeed. Amazing that someone would think the above mentioned folks were worthy of their support. If this gets me a -1 then bring them on! Good grief people.

  20. I know we have some soccer fans on here, so I figured I'd get a thread started. The USA plays their first group C game tonight against Canada. It is at 7:00pm on Fox Soccer Channel. The other two group C teams, Panama and Guadaloupe, play right after. Canada claims to have its strongest team ever, so the game should be interesting. Here are the other results so far: Group A: Mexico 5-0 El Salvador Costa Rica 5-0 Cuba Group B: Jamaica 4-0 Grenada Honduras 0-0 Guatemala The top two teams from each group, and the two highest rated third place teams move on to the quarterfinals. From there it is single elimimination. Go USA!!!!!

  23. If Ohio State was in normal condition, of course a coach would prefer it to building UNT. But the coach that replaces Tressel is going to suffer the consequences of Tressel's actions while fans expect him to get the same results Tressel did. Being the first coach to replace a giant can be a bad idea. Ron Zook learned that at Florida.

  24. Maybe it's because I came from a school with a 5,000 plastic seat arena or maybe it's because luxury boxes in no way take me from 6 o'clock to midnight, but I think the super pit is a fantastic venue.

  28. A guy that my girlfriend went to HS with died in Afghanistan a couple months ago. The westboro baptist church had planned to protest it, and even wrote a press release that ended with "Thank God for IED's"....He was killed by an IED. They never showed up, after talking to a few people I know from her hometown, apparently they had stayed the night in Oklahoma and their tires got slashed, and none of the local tire shops would repair them. Not sure if that is what really happened or not. Anyways, you have to be a really evil A-hole to be mentioned in the same breath as the westboro baptist church, and stealing the attention away from a bunch of kids who have to work their butts off just to do the stuff we sometimes take for granted everyday, definitely is a classless move.

  36. watched some video on this kid, looks to have hands and good body control, lacks top end speed. Reminded me of a slower Johnny Quinn, but lets not forget Johnny was not always as fast as we all remember him being. He worked very hard and long hours with Sammy Dabbs the track sprint coach during the offseason, that is when he really became fast.

  37. .....until the oil/gas/coal runs out. Creating construction/maintenance jobs for renewable energy devices sounds like pretty secure jobs to me. Not to mention the monitoring and research jobs to continue to improve the product.

  38. What's worse? $2M grant for a new technology that may be beneficial and will provide valuable research for the future, or a $2M tax break to industries recording record profits? If one is a waste of taxpayer monies, so is the other. And let's not act like coal mining and drilling don't have any negative impacts on the enironment, aren't loud and don't take away valuable wilderness.

  39. Each and every time I heard Coach Mac speak, from the day he arrived, he has talked about the "undersized squad" UNT has at the moment. He knew from the start that UNT, as a rule, was a tad "undersized". Looks like he just now took the time to figure out on average just how undersized. I am sure this has something to do with player goals set for the summer conditioning program. Coach McCarney had most definitely already made this assessment. Maybe now he just put some actual numbers "on average" to the matter. Nice to have some goals for his players in the summer, right?

  41. Brett is way off on his dimensions. If you will count the 4x8 panels on the backside you will find that there are 11x8'=88' across the bottom and 8x4'=32' in height. That would calculate to 2814 SF; more than twice Vito's figures. Maybe the entire area will not be videoboard but I can't imagine that less than half would be viewing area.
