  1. I heard it was a plaque that said "North Texas". That way when the players walk by they'll know who they are.

  2. I was just told by Thomas Sitton, the Head Coach/AD at Chapel Hill High School (just outside of Tyler), that UNT has offered three of its soon-to-be seniors: Rex Rollins - running back Andrew Tucker - running back and brother of Matthew Tucker, back at TCU Sir Calvin Wallace - a defensive lineman (tackle, if I remember correctly) So where is the connection from Chapel Hill to UNT? I quote from his email to me: "Coach Jeremy Loyd our WR coach played for Coach McCarney at Iowa State and just loves him". What got me started on this was the item in Vito's Blog today that said Chapel Hill was a stop on UNT's summer camps schedule (little ole Chapel Hill, a country, 3-A school among all of the big communities mentioned in the blog) - so I emailed Thomas and asked for details of when the camp would be at Chapel Hill. Wednesday, June 15 4 - 8 PM Sitton will have some athletes in the next few years that are going to be something else. Hopefully, our Mean Green get their share.

  4. And I was hoping it would be a statue of Kermit the Frog to remind the players as they took the field to play hard because it isn't easy being green.

  5. This would at least be consistent with our inconsistent shade of green.

  6. Welcome to Mean Green country, Feldt. How about reeling in that brother of your's, too?

  7. Injuries, changes in career goals, academics, girlfriends, family problems, and a myriad of other reasons can change the desire and focus of an athlete. Sometimes there are more talented athletes signed that would push them further down the chart. There are no doubt occasions where they are asked to give up their scholarship to make way for the signing of new talent. Whatever the reason there are always a few players that do not return in the fall. It happens in programs big and small. I would like for everyone to be able to finish their eligibility but it isn't always possible. All that we can do is thank them for their time and effort in trying to make this program a success. Godspeed to Troy, John and Austin. I wish you well for the remainder of your life.

  17. Yeah I suppose I'll trust the people that did the calculations too and presented their findings to the committee. Once presented he was removed from the committee because his findings did not make the committee feel rosy inside about their windmills anymore. The addition of the turbines is to bring us closer to LEED Platinum. Without the turbines it would be near impossible since renewable energy sources translate into mega points on the LEED scale.

  21. I think having "North Texas" on the helmet makes perfect sense for the time being. As much as some, including myself, would like to only have the eagle or some other symbol on the helmet...the fact of the matter is that not many people from around the country know who we are. We don't have the name recognition right now that the likes of UT, Alabama, Auburn, and Oregon have. Whenever people watch a televised game of North Texas and see "North Texas" on the helmet, there is no question as to who we are. Having "North Texas" on the helmet will also help end the confusion of "NTSU" and all of those other names that individuals on this board get so mad about when an announcer refers to us as. Overall, I think this makes sense for our current situation. 5-10 years from now may be another story if things go well...but right now I think it makes sense.

  30. Are those actually the new helmets? I could see the AD putting that one in the commercial and then coming out with the real "new" one on game day with the uniforms.

  32. He's done something locally with minor league baseball, hasn't he? I know he's got a really cool little league stadium in Frisco with his name on it, but I think he also lent his name to either the old Denton Texas Collegiate League team or the ill-fated Continental Baseball League that ran here from 2008-2010.

  33. I'm not opposed to getting Rusty Greer aka The Red Baron on board with any and all future baseball plans at North Texas. Thanks.

  34. The first part of that wouldn't surprise me at all. Shreveport seems to change names and owners on an annual basis, and their stadium was old and decrepit in the 80s, let alone the current era of shiny corporately named joints even in independent baseball. The American Association is horrible baseball, but a LOT of fun to watch. I've gone to games in El Paso, Ft. Worth, Grand Prairie and Shreveport. They each have their own flavor, and they're all a lot of fun. I would love it if it were true that they would approach UNT, but given the shaky financial situations of most of the individual teams (I was drinking beer with the Ft. Worth owner a couple years ago at a game, and he was scared that they WOULD make the playoffs because that loses him money), I can't see that as a reality.

  36. Did anyone else catch that one of our most heralded recruits (Troy Franklinn) is no longer on the roster. He will remain a student at NT but is not on the team? Wasnt Franklinn supposed to be a corner-stone player for the future? I apologize if I am really this far behind on our players, but what happened? Coach Mac is having to make a LOT of changes quickly, and I know that's what we brought him here for. Still, Noble AND Franklinn off the roster.. I think Harry is going to have to suit up and play for Coach Mac this year! So no hitting Harry at the GMG.com Bowl! GMG!!!

  37. It's very possible that some players have shifted weight. DMac could be using a more true/current weight than what we see online at MGS.com. Or he may actually be off. The players are going to be in the weight room anyways working to bulk up.

  38. Linebackers are not a good example. The only "linebacker" who is that light (202) is Blake Dunham and I think of him as a deep snapper and special teamer unless/until he gains enough weight to play that position. The next closest is Will Wright at 204 and he's a converted safety who I predict will be 10-15 pounds heavier by fall. To me, the average for all conference linebackers means little. The average for the best conference linebackers might be more telling. Zach Orr, one of our best, if not the best, linebacker weighs in at 240 so, as one poster said, there must be multiple sub-200 pounders somewhere. The premise is simply not factual. In addition, speed is another measurable factor that should also be included.

  40. You weren't the only one, and neither was I, but "it wouldn't take long to call roll." And you damn sure wouldn't have heard the last 2 staffs make the proclamation 'we're undersized as a division 1 football team', which is my paraphrase of what Mac said in one of his first interviews.
    1 point
  41. I will add that the proclamation puts Mac on the hook to begin to fix the issue with the next recruiting class.

  42. Agree 100%. Very astute maneuver by Mac. The good thing about it, is that it's a maneuver that simply addresses facts, instead of tossing wishing powder in the air and ignoring the emperor's nudity.

  43. Unless of course our roster is still employing the Riley Dodge Scale of Weights and Measures. When you add in our larger (listed) linebackers, we would have to have more than a couple sub-200 pound LB's to bring the average down to around two hundred pounds a piece. I sure hope that our DL is somewhere close to their listed size.

  44. Yeah, all the shills for the various power industries are going to have to work a little harder to find fault with this progressive move by UNT. But I guess making comments about taxpayer money is a good start.

  45. Really? You guys think our helmets are what have been holding the program back?

  46. Going to have to make room in the helmet case. Anything to help us move on with the new coach works for me. I hope we see a close up sooner than later.
