But, would you be more likely to buy a car if a friend came to you, told you he had already bought a car from that dealership, how happy he was with the experience, and that he will continue to give that dealership his business? That is kind of the idea. This program has very low overhead for the AD and has the advantage of having Alumni talking to their friends and follow disconnected Alumni about getting involved in UNT athletics.6 points

My first semester on campus (away from home) was a 2.8; while consuming a lot of beer. Tony took care of business, good for him.3 points

It has been discussed on here a couple times that Tony Mitchell is not a moron. He is a smart kid that was victim to some bad advice, and ended up in some bad circumstances as far as school went. I'm not shocked that he has a good GPA, and this is good news for both Tony personally and NT Basketball. He may be taking some easy classes, but so are bunch of other freshmen.3 points

It was great! Let me say this, if you go now, before we start winning, you'll get a chance to talk to the coach one on one. When this thing takes off and more people attend, I have a feeling it will be more of a receiving line. It was a joy to speak with Coach McCarney, Coach Jones, and new women's basketball coach Karen Aston. It was also good to finally meet Kevin Kokjohn, Troy's dad. He's been gracious enough to give many of us insight over the years. My kids loved it, although the sugar from the free snacks set them off and we had to move them back into the showroom. We also won a pair of free tickets to the ULM game. Overall, it was a good-good. There's no reason to miss it. Freebies: Snacks, soft drinks, cool poster of Johnny Jones, Football poster, large magnetic football schedule for your fridge, pictures with Scrappy, pom poms, mini-mega phones, coaches, dancers...and Jub on drums. Get you and your family to this thing while it's still free, yo. FREEBIE II: McCarney will give Barry Switzer a run for his money in HELL/DAMN department. Set your HELL/DAMN over-under at 20...and take the over. The Todd Dodge Era is clearly long gone. There will be cussing and coaching on the sidelines in Denton again, fellas.3 points

It was great. Jub Jub was doing rim shots on a drum kit to Coach Mac's jokes. Free photos. Free booze. It was great to hear Jordon Case speak to his passion for the university. The music from the DJ was a bit too loud for talking. I didn't realize how well the women's golf team was doing...and how many records they beat this year. Good to see and hear the new women's basketball coach. I think I'll make the haul to Grand Prairie and/or Ft. Worth.3 points

Best Game- 2006, 24-6 win over smu. Maybe our biggest win in the series. Their team was really awful. Worst Game- 2005, 54-2 lose to Tulsa. That games was the start of our long painful downturn we are still trying to correct. Worst Coached Game- 2009, 17-13 lose to Army. Up 13-10 on the Army 16 yard line, Dodge called two timeouts in a row. Knott's low field goal attempt gets blocked. Steelman's 55 yard run puts Army on the North Texas 7 yard line. Two plays latter Army takes the lead with a touchdown. On the second play of our last drive R. Dodge throws an INT, icing the game. It was very sad night. ai don't know when Dodge lost the confidence of his players, but looking back, that might have been the night he lost mine. I continued to support our team and him as our coach, but felt we needed to move in a new direction.3 points

Thank You Spencer and Coach Mac. As the father of a special needs daughter, I know that words can hurt. People with special needs have feeling just like everyone one else. If you want your heart touched, spent some time with a person will special needs, You will never be the same again.3 points

Are they going to put him in Senior History? In my day, freshman history wasn't all that easy, and the tests in health class were pretty tough. If he is a Kinesiology major then those physical performance classes are required too.2 points

The more donations to the Mean Green Club, the more Athletic Department funds are freed up to do things like potentially hiring a sales force. Instead the Athletic Department has to supplement the costs of the 350 student athlete scholarships that ideally would have been completely covered by donations. It's a big circle, but the bottom line is that every donation helps improve what the Athletic Department can do each year.2 points

Best: Utah State 1997 Ridiculous back and forth game. I believe in the final four minutes there were 5 lead changes. We won at the final gun on a Jason Mills TD pass. Only a couple thousand at the game, but definitely the most exciting game I ever saw in Fouts. Worst: Idaho 2000 Already mentioned in the thread. It was a game that it felt like we won on more than one occassion, including getting a 4th down stop deep in their end with just a few minutes remaining. The Vandals used the timeouts and got the ball back without much time to go at all (like under 45 seconds?). Still they needed to about 50-60 yards to get into FG range. So they proceed to complete something like a 70 yard pass down inside our 5 yard line and kicked the winning FG at the buzzer.2 points
-
Best: Several, but the nod goes to the 2002 NMSU win. The atmosphere in Fouts was ELECTRIC! Worst: The night we had high expectations, scored first, then took it in the shorts from Tulsa. A major humiliation.2 points
-
Best: Unknown opponent from 1997. As a 7th grader on a FCA trip I accidentally got to see the better part of a cheerleader's boob. Worst: Tulsa and that damn tight end who's name escapes me.2 points

Greetings GoMeanGreen land. It's been quite some time since I have had a chance to post any news. I wanted to make you aware of my two current major projects. The first should come as no surprise. It is a New Stadium Video. I have footage and pictures dating all the way back to groundbreaking. It should make for a nice final project when the stadium is completed. Some of you may have already seen my work with the Football and Basketball videos on YouTube and Vimeo. North Texas has a big place in my heart, and I enjoy getting to give something back. Currently, all of my time and energy is going into my first Full Length Documentary. The documentary is on The Buddy League, a special needs baseball league in Garland, TX. I invite you to please visit our site and spread the word. We are currently raising funds to complete our project. The project has already grown to be one of the most popular on the site in the first 2 days of campaigning. Feel free to check out our Proof of Concept video and read about the project. Our generation sucks, kids are to soft these days. You cant call it "Indian style" in school becuase its degrading to native americans You shouldnt say "gay" because homos cry to tmz and complain(because thats all they can do) Peta complains about killing deer, and wearing exotic skin boots, Sorry I like to wear my alligator and ostrich boots because they look good. Cant chew tobacco without a person saying, you know thats bad for you Cant have 3 beers and a shot without being over the .08 limit while driving The list can go on.....1 point

Those were great times. Fermia Neeley, DeLonte Taylor, Pat Hicks, and Kenneth Lyons. When Lyons was a freshman shooting free throws, he'd wait for the ref back at mid court. then, as if he were stalking something, sneak up to the line and shoot. He was always very aggressive and intense. He and Mark Aguire had a thing. Aguire was with the #1 DePaul Blue Demons( or what ever they are). Both were at each other in Chicago and back here for round 2. Lyons had as much of Aguire as he could stand. Lyons threw Aguire over the North Texas bench. OVER the NT bench. What a great game. Congratulations Kenneth. Best wishes for even more success. GO MEAN GREEN1 point

No one knows yet if Franklin will receive a waiver. History says he won't. If Knox can give you rebounding and decent defense, I would start him for his size (as long as he remembers he is a 7 footer, which is half of his problems). I am hoping to see this improvement from him. Much like Franklin, I don't care if he scores a point, defense and rebounding is all we need from him.1 point

I think if you add Tony Mitchell (who is basically coming in as a Freshman) and Roger Franklin, plus our TBD scholarship, our class is probably a little better. They do have a great class though, and there are going to be some awesome battles over the next four years. I just hope we get to see one in Denton one of these days...1 point

If you missed Stephen Colbert's interview with Tim Shriver a few months back on this topic, you missed something equal parts funny and positive on this subject. “Kids, don’t use the ‘R’ word. It is totally gay.”1 point

First, invading a foreign country comes with consequences. We aren't facing any now due to the fact that Bin Ladin was found less than a mile away from Pakistan's version of West Point. It is painfully obvious to EVERYONE that elements in that government were harboring Bin Ladin. That is the ONLY reason that there have not been international consequences. You act as if there would have been no casualties if Bin Ladin had not been in that compound. There would have been, and they would have been Pakistani citizens killed by Anerican forces that entered Pakistan in violation of international law,. That is more than a little bit of an international political problem. I guess we could have lied and said that crashed American helicoter was, what, a Russian helicoter? Think it through. As far as Gitmo closing, well, Eric Holder isn't president. Pres. Obama said he was going to close it when he was elected and hasn't in over 2 years. He knows it is in the best interest of the US that Gitmo remain open for business. Problem is, he has people on the mid to outer edge of his party that completely bought into the "Bush is running an illegal prison because he is evil and wants to destroy America" account of Gitmo events, so he has to pacify them by making those type of statements. Much like the branch of republicans who refused to believe Pres. Obama was an American citizen. There are plenty of stupid people on both fringes. My message to you is the same one I would tell any conservative leader: Stop making stupid arguments about things that you are completely wrong about and concentrate on what the other side is wrong about, mainly the economy and the path of socialism and national debt that this administration is taking us down. Focus on Pres. Obama's own campaign promises that he has violated and highlight that he violated them because he was 1) wrong, or worse, 2) knew all along that he would not fulfill them and only said them to get elected. It sounds sooo petty to complain about the stick on which Pres. Obama brought you Bin Ladin's head.1 point

It's worked so well thus far. Who out there doesn't know North Texas? If there's anything even more consistent at the school than changing everything, it's leaving the terrible things the same. I'm going to expound a little bit, because this is f'ing ridiculous and it's starting to piss me off how ignorant our AD is being about this. The most common question I receive outside the state, inside Texas, and in DFW is why I support the Philadelphia Eagles when I wear an NT hat. Great. I have to explain to them it's North Texas, to which the response everywhere except DFW is, "who?" Ok, so then the eagle logo is off limits, because no one recognizes it. So now you're trying to sell merchandise with just "North Texas" or "UNT" on it. No one wants that, sorry. That's one of the reasons (beyond the multitude of other inept decisions and lack of effort) that our merchandise doesn't sell. You have the UT-Austin Longhorn, SMU Pony, TCU Horned Frog, and North Texas North Texas. Yeah, it looks stupid, and even if other schools in other areas of the country get away with spelling out their name, truth is in Texas you either have a logo, interlocked letters, or both. So until the SOW makes regular appearances on TV in games and score recaps, no one knows what it is. No one wants to buy the gear that just says "North Texas" because, $150,000 font and all, it looks like something that could easily say "Lewisville High School" and no one would think anything of it. RV is flat out wrong on this, and I think it's time that someone else steps in (Rawlins?) and puts their foot down on the branding. I'm tired of this bush league BS, and I'm tired of the athletic department not being able to get their message beyond Eagle Dr.1 point
