  1. I am, for your information, shelling out that kind of money (and more) for the school. So, I am mocking no one except those with the chips on their shoulders who want to find something wrong with each and everything this administration does. It gets a little tirining...yawn...to see this stuff over and over again each and every time the department does something. How long ago was this process announced and how many times has it been explained? And now you come on and complain about the process. You know, they have these magic things called phones...even have little portable ones they call cell phones that don't have long distance charges....one could have called almost anytime if they were confused about the process or wanted more info on how exactly the process will work on selection day (OK, I'll give you the sarcasm thing on that sentence). To post there was "direct misleading" on the seat selection process is rather telling. What, might one ask, did you see as "directly misleading?" I would love to know what you felt was misleading as I have not experienced any of that so far. Maybe it's just because I pay really really close attention to things and ask a bunch of questions...even by phone, by email and in person, before I shell out the amount of money i am shelling out for seats. I know people who live a distance from Denton who have found it important enough to them that they have made the effort to get to Denton for an actual look-see. Sure not everyone can do that, but that does not mean that the opportunity was not presented. I will not be able to be present to select my seats...bummer, right? Maybe I should post how unfair it was that I have a family commitment that day/time and will have to miss and be hopeful that my proxy will select "correctly" for me". If not, I guess I can come on here and talk about how unfair everything was even though I fully knew the rules going into it. Sixty open seats per section seems like an opportunity to move location if you needed to do so to me...note I said opportunity, not sure thing. Just want to be clear so you don't think I am directly misleading anyone. You ask for an open house day to see the stadium...well, they have had tours available and have announced that for months. Sort of like an open house. Even if they had an open house, for sure it would be on a day when someone couldn't come and then it would be all the AD's fault that he didn't pick a different day. Cold chicken fingers at an athletic event...wow...really? I would imagine that everyone who ever has attended athletic events has experienced the "game day food" deal. No one will be throwing a dart at a board...unless of course the person they are selecting for did no pre-work and just said pick what's there! Ample time to let your proxy know exactly where you want your seats and what you priorities are for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. options. Don't you think that "throwing a dart" comment is a bit over the top and "mocking" in itself? If you think there will be a column in front of them you have done ZERO pre-work...Don't believe there are columns to be in front of anyone at the new stadium...another bit of hyperbole on your part it seems. Want to AD to do things top notch you say...well, how about a new 30,000 plus stadium designed by the same group that designed Cowboy stadium? That "top notch" enough for you? So, let's just stop all construction while groups of people wonder about the stadium unescorted on selection day. Man, OSHA would have a field day with that one I would imagine. Let's not worry about all the hazards and potential lawsuits that little deal would open the University up to. Sorry about those nose bleed NCAA seats...I agree that's a tough deal...any idea ahead of time where the seats would be located? Just asking. And, that shirt thing was definitely a cluster drill from the start to finish. Was that you that had that problem? And, yes, have heard horror stories about the festival parking thing, but I also saw lots and lots of people tailgating in the same spots at each home game. I would be interested in knowing why you had the problem and the others did not. Interesting, very interesting. Having graduated from three different universities, I can assure you that this stuff you mention is not unique to UNT...nor is it the common thing for all UNT fans. I wonder why it happens to the same folks over and over...really, that is pretty interesting. I wonder if it is like "finding what you are looking for". Don't know. Sure, i have had...and still do...my issues with things at UNT. But, have found through the years that it is often what you make of it that determines how the experience really ends. Besides, if folks can complain, why can't I not complain? If you can "mock" why can't I? I know...IT'S NOT FAIR!

  2. "What I have said is we’re going to encourage democracy in Pakistan, expand our non-military aid to Pakistan so that they have more of a stake in working with us, but insisting that they go after these militants. And if we have Osama bin Laden in our sights and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take them out, then I think that we have to act, and we will take them out. We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al-Quaida. That has to be our biggest national security priority.” - Barack Obama, during 2008 Presidential campaign Don't act like the President didn't always have the resolve to do what he felt like he needed to do. Maybe he didn't believe in "enhanced interrogations" - but that doesn't mean he didn't have a laser focus on getting bin Laden. The whole reason he complained about the Iraq war was because he said it took away from the Afghan conflict - and more precisely hunting down Osama. Frankly either/both side/s trying to score political points on this makes me sick.

  8. Read articles about this... none of the information obtained that led to this event was obtained by waterboarding but instead by traditional means.. The Spanish inquision and even Salem Witch trials got people to say all sorts of things including confessing to being witches, devils etc. It just isn't reliable. About waterboarding... even McCain opposed it... Quit trying to make this a political event .... America got him..... Bush and Obama both contributed as did the CIA and military...

  11. man...this is starting to turn into the wrinkled $100 bill argument... this is probably a once in a lifetime thing that many want it done in a total hands on approach. i have no idea how other schools do this, but our school isn't doing it this way. i would love to get into the stadium before selecting, but that isn't possible...cool...next option is to pick my seats in person from a chart that you can see where the available seats are...great...i'll know all my options and could communicate with others that i want to sit next too...i really don't see the problem with this other than disappointment of not being able to get into the stadium first...life goes on...there are much worse things in life to complain about.

  12. Count me as one who somehow thought the selection process was 'by hand.' Not sure how so many assumed that incorrectly. What exactly is the purpose of taking a half day off work to do a 'virtual selection?' I agree with JD, I was super excited not only about the selection but also the belief that this was going to be an experience like nothing I've done before. Instead, it's going to be the same process as my buying Tellatubbies on Ice tickets via Ticketmaster.

  13. I don't see anything wrong with doing it the way it's planned. It goes by priority points which would pretty much exclude trying to do it on one day. You can have a proxy to try to get what's available near where you'd like to be. This is not rocket science; just go with the flow.

  14. During my last discussion with someone from the Athletic Department, I was told that they don't have a lot of flexibility on when they can schedule stadium tours until it is released from HKS. This was in reference for something planned right around the time of the seat selection process, so I think you are on to it. Besides, I can't imagine how long seat selection would take if people were giving time to run around and sit in the different seats at their selection time. They'd have to be escorted for obvious reasons. If folks want to check out the views before hand, I agree with KRAM1 that they should schedule time for a tour ahead of time.

  34. .. THANKS FOR THE CONFIRMATION of what I posted--- ----And the same is true in New Mexico, Florida, California, and Arizona.. as well as a few others..... It explains why we are higher than SOME states but not the highest. I have read the same and with the explaination you just gave and with the comment I just made.... Note who they (insurance execs. etc.) tend to donate to in Texas campaigns. Ie. follow the money... Got a good explanation for homeowners insurance...???.. don't mention hurricanes... other states have it a lot worse than we do especially when you consider the size of the state and how much of it is totally unaffected by hurricanes. Texas is one of the most profitable states (some say THE most) to be in insurance according to sourses I have read.

  35. ---You never know.... the 2000 election was decided by decided by 700 votes (in Florida) .... or 350 if consider how many people it took to switch votes. ....LOL --- I once was an election judge that once was part of a small committee [ loser requested a recount] that had to decide a county race that was decided by ONE vote.

  36. ---No doubt that is true... but I wasn't implying that only ONE party was guilty of TRYING to do unethical things as some were.. It is up to the local voter registration boards to throw these out. 37. Rick.. --- I was alive (in college) duing the 60's as you said...[ also draft bait for 6 years ] There was alot of political chaos then but it was totally different than now. It was not so much between parties but from groups wanting civil rights and opposing the war which also was not divided so much on political lines**. When I graduated from HS the kid behind me in math was black (good student) and not permittted to attend any SWC college or even the Baptist one in my home town which was a few blocks from his house.. That was not right. Women also had serious problems and had trouble conducting business without a husband's signature. My mom ever now and then was totally disgusted by it all..... the worse being when she was not allowed to check the family bank account balance without my father being present.. Maybe not every bank did that but theirs did. [she opened an account at another one that would allow her access] Woman were not permitted on juries until after that period even if a woman was on trial.. You are years yonger than I and I don't think you have a true picture of the way things were. note the movie 12-angry men.... no wowen.... there weren't any on juries on most states. When the Civil Rghts bills were passed Lyndon Johnson predicted that they had just handed the South to the Republican party.... and it happened......but was the right thing to do. I know you are sincere but really don't seem to understand how things were then. ---I do dislike Perry... I work in education and dislike how much he has cut education funding and how much tuition and LOCAL property taxes have gone up as a result....(funding has to come from somewhere ) ... I have a direct reason to do so.... it is not one bit about which political party.. Not once have I said a bad comment about McCain... other than saying I don't think someone (Palin) from a small wilderness town who had never traveled internationally understands international problems or even the problems of large American cities. I really find it hard to believe that people can honestly defend this decision. I also disliked Gov. White (Democrat) and some of the idiot things he did to education... So did a lot others... he lasted one term. . It is all about issues not party. You appear to be party oriented, not issue oriented. ---Perry has also cut funding to state parks and they are falling apart..... It is THE headline in today's local paper. I use parks and once camped out a lot at them with my kids. A couple of years ago the Park system had ONE pickup budgeted for the ENTIRE system. A lot of repairs can't be done and many restrooms are just locked up. He and current legislature is at fault. Again I oppose him because of what he has done... not what party he is a member of... ---Our home insurance rate in Texas is double the national average now. Our auto insurasnce is the highest in the USA.... Please tell me why I should support him... don't just state he is conservative or GOP or whatever... give specific reasons. I stated some that say why I don't. --- I have listened to Billy Graham (a lot)... maybe my memory is bad but don't remember him endorsing candidates or even a political party. I know he has visited the White House many times and Presidents of both parties. He is nothing like most of the current group on TV etc. ---I will repeat... I dislike a cartoon of someone holding a gun to the head of another especially a political one. . I am not anti-gun.. I own several... That type of picture is not something most Americans approve of......nor is it funny. . **LBJ (as President) had breakfast meetings at the White House a couple of times a month with the leaders of BOTH parties [ Ford-the House , Dirkson-Senate], and many other to discuss problems and legislation. That no longer happens and in fact except McCain, Liberman and a few others... they don't talk much at all that I can tell. That don't work together as they once did even if they had "issue" differences. No one disliked Goldwater (actually they respected him) who was considered far right then... later he appeared to be very moderate [ it wasn't Goldwater that changed] and he opposed religion trying to control government . ___________________________ ---Your weight... about 192...[ how close am I? ] I have talked to you in person (with my son) several times. (most 2-3 years ago) .. I doubt you remember me... You tended to blow me off. I even identified myself as Screaming Eagle-66. I own a shirt or two you had for sale as well .................LOL

  38. ---According to some sources including the highly Republican slanted paper in Midland... a lot of these phoney names and registrations are done by people who are trying to "clog up" the system so bad that voter registration offices will not have time to process all of the applications of legitimate voters of college students *and others. Oddly these guys that do this usually support the opposite name you mentioned and are trying to lower the voting strength of young voters that tend to support him.. ---By law, any group that collects voter registration forms must turn all of them (even bogus ones) into the voter registrations office. The voter registration office then has to check each one before granting a voting certificate. The law is this way to prevent groups from discarding names that they think may be unfavorable to their view or to presvent discrimination. Often the registration groups separate the forms into 2-3 piles... probably valid, probably not valid and really bad... to help out the registration offices. I work elections. ---Stuffing ballot boxes (as you put it) should be very difficult if the voter registration office does its job properly. *it was done at the campus I work in an attempt to get young voters more interested... I know of no problems with it. ****Learn facts...... not crazy email rumors.

  39. . ---Did not see it... I don't read everything and have not even checked in on GMG in several days. Just because one person demonstrates poor behavior doesn't not justify anyone else to do so...... sounds rather childish.. ---For what it is worth. I am definitely a Christian...( attend regularly, wife even teaches at a private school started by a church ) but don't think churches have any business campaigning for candidates and don't think government should dictate to churches either... In other words I agree with the Constitution. I even went to a religious sponsored college for a while. You jump to far too many conclusions without knowing facts. ---Surprise.. I never have voted straight ticket.. I unlike you appear to be.. am open minded to others and their ideas. I don't consider either party the "enemy" and definitely would not suggest shooting them. Both parties have some good people and both have have sorry ones. ---I and many others really dislike how our country has been so divided... it was not that way when I was younger. I personally think it is largely due to all these "hate mongers" on radio and TV (even some who are supposedly "religious" programs). Once talk-radio got started (most stations were was once news and top-40, country stations, or had religious programing without political overtones) plus the 24 hour cable programs started when began about 1980 due to satellite technology....things have really changed..... and not for the better..... ---One thing I thing college should teach us is to have an open mind and to listen to others.... then believe as we wish. None of us are always right and none of us are always wrong.... and neither is any political party or any church. .

  40. . --- I love the part that Rush Limbaugh refers to his listeners (supporters) as "ditto-heads". Ditto means "me-too"... I laugh every time I hear him call them "me-too-ers" and imply that they can't think for themselves. I doubt if they realize what he is doing.... LOL

  41. ...WE ARE NOT LIKE THE SOVIET UNION or RED CHINA THAT SHOT POLITICAL OPPONENTS. (offensive picture/cartoon) ---No one running for office in the USA is a Socialist that wants to nationalize any companies or nationalize farming land as did the Soviet Union and Red China. Perhaps you could consider public schools, public colleges, and public hospitals, as socialist instutions since thare are a lot of people who pay taxes that do not use them. The people of Texas (by way of taxes) paid for part of our North Texas and public school education...

  42. I am sure you are completely respectful in mockingly yawning someone willing to put up that kind of money for your school. You will not have ample oppurtunity to move seats at a later time. There will be about 60 open seats in each section.. which they will continue to sell during the time we aren't there for a game. So on game day, there may be 30 left. That doesn't seem so ample for someone that may have a top pick and they just throw a dart at the whiteboard and hope there isn't a column in front of them. This AD needs to stop acting like it is amatuer hour and do things top notch. I am sure there is ample oppurtunity for those who are local, retired or/and completely in the pocket of the AD staff. Out of staters or the slightly out of touch with Denton, not so much. How about an 'open house' for people to come see the seats on a given day? Or maybe open the stadium for looking for one hour each day of the selection and anyone on that day can come see it live in person? I know, those are completely baffling ideas. Mind blowing in fact. How about seat selection days when people can actually attend? I guess I can fly in to Dallas, rent a car, pick my seat in a closed off room with cheap laptops and then mark off the my seats on a whiteboard. That sounds top notch! You shouldn't mock people's dismay at some news. It may be small to you, but over time people have built up chips on their collective shoulders regarding the way this AD operates. From cold chicken finger boxes at the MGC road tent, to misadvertising event times, to direct misleading on how the seat selection process will work, to my seat backs never being installed for the first couple of games EVERY season, to festival parking and arguing with attendants (that eventually led to my whole crew stopping to tailgate), to nose bleed seats for NCAA games, to not being able to exchange a shirt on MGG without outrageous shipping costs, to many other *small* things that just add up over the years in the fanbases' collective mind. Does the stop some like me from giving my money? No not yet, but I would love to see some progress instead of lip service. So go ahead, mock people that are disappointed in the amateur hour style of the seat selection, I am happy you are happy with it. I feel like yawning too.
