  6. When the recruiting service evaluate our class, Mitchell won't be included in 2011...but for practicality (and ego-stroking) sake let's lump him in with our current haul: Tony Mitchell - 5star (Rivals), 95 (ESPN) Roger Franklin - 4star, 91 Jordan Williams - 3star, 85 Chris Jones - 3star, ungraded Forrest Robinson - 3star, ungraded Trey Norris - 2star, 80 Brandon Walton - ungraded JUCO UT has five players graded above 91, including 1 five star. A&M has a 4star, 95 and a 3star, 91. Baylor has a 5star, 98 and a 4star 95...so I'd say we're still behind the best programs in the state The next tier would be... Houston - 4, Rivals 3star graded 92,91,88 and ungraded by ESPN, plus 1 JUCO transfer SMU - 1, Rivals 4star graded 89, 2, 3star graded 88 and 86, 1, 2star graded 86 Tech - 4, Rivals 3star all graded 89, plus 3 JUCO transfers (1 I really wanted here) UTEP - 3, Rivals 3star graded 88,87 and 85, 1, 2star graded 79, 1, Rivals ungraded, graded 83 by ESPN, plus 3 JUCOs. TCU, UTA, SHST, SFA et al are all considerably back. My take... 1. Texas - Myck Kabongo will have a bigger impact than Baylor's Quincey Jones 2. Baylor 3. A&M 4. UNT 5. SMU 6. Houston 7. Texas Tech 8. UTEP

  7. Full story Justin Combs is a promising cornerback prospect from New York who'd love nothing better than to play college football in the Deep South. "The competition down South is what I dream about. They say New York (prep) football is nothing compared to Alabama and Florida, but I share the same passion for the game as the fans down there." Combs' only problem? Getting football coaches to take him seriously. So far, he has offers from Middle Tennessee and Tennessee Tech and Miami has expressed interest. But recruiters wonder if his heart is where his mouth is because, frankly, Combs has everything a teenager could want: Money, fame and a world-famous father, Sean "Diddy" Combs. According to a 2011 Forbes' survey, his net worth is listed at $475 million.... For a college, Justin Combs is looking for a school that will help him excel academically -- he has a 93 average at the prestigious prep school -- as well as develop his talents as a football player. "I also want to go to a school with a great community and a love of football," he said.

  10. It's a shame they took away the ability to give you +1's with your promotion. I used to be a big North Texas guy, but UNT is growing on me. In my work experience EVERYONE calls us UNT so I'm beginning to embrace it.

  13. Greetings GoMeanGreen land. It's been quite some time since I have had a chance to post any news. I wanted to make you aware of my two current major projects. The first should come as no surprise. It is a New Stadium Video. I have footage and pictures dating all the way back to groundbreaking. It should make for a nice final project when the stadium is completed. Some of you may have already seen my work with the Football and Basketball videos on YouTube and Vimeo. North Texas has a big place in my heart, and I enjoy getting to give something back. Currently, all of my time and energy is going into my first Full Length Documentary. The documentary is on The Buddy League, a special needs baseball league in Garland, TX. I invite you to please visit our site and spread the word. We are currently raising funds to complete our project. The project has already grown to be one of the most popular on the site in the first 2 days of campaigning. Feel free to check out our Proof of Concept video and read about the project. The Buddy League Documentary

  14. For athletics I am all for the UNT brand. The North Texas connotation in sports represents the regions youth/club athletics. Google North Texas Volleyball and "The North Texas Region of USA Volleyball" is the first hit. Do the same for North Texas Soccer and you get half a dozen regional soccer clubs and organizations. The same holds true for swimming and golf and would be the same someday when we bring on baseball. In my view UNT brand clearly distinguishes the university, North Texas better represents a region of Texas.

  21. !!!!!Put me in for a roster spot again this year. I'm excited my family will be able to come support this event and help the Scholarship fund in Andrew's name. Lindsay (my wife) also wants to play this year so put us both down. I'm also gearing up to avenge the "white" teams loss last year, that won't happen again. I've started to recruit some other ex-players to come back for this event to make it more memorable and possibly get more people out in support. I've gotten 3-4 maybe's so far, I should know for sure in the coming weeks, stay tuned. I'll announce them on the board once they're 100%. I'll take an XL T-shirt and Lindsay will take a Small. See everyone in June! Scott Hall

  22. If your only purpose in dropping ULM is so LaTech can join the Belt, I couldn't disagree with you more. I'm not necessarily opposed to adding LaTech, but it needs to be on the Belt's terms. I just don't see ULM as being a drag on the Belt. They seem to be able to whup up on us in football just fine. They field a baseball team, we don't. Their football team beat Bama a few years ago. We have a ways to go before we "outgrow" ULM.

  23. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the use of directional school names. Most of them seem to get lost in the crowd like all the schools from Illinois and Michigan. I would much rather hear "USC" than "Southern California" or the use of the abbreviated state and city such as "UCLA" or "UNLV". Directions make me feel like all the good names were taken.

  26. I think I can get behind either one. I'll trust the AD branding folks to make the right decision. There's alot of marketing tactics to take into account and I never set foot in the business building, so I don't have a clue what goes into it. I'll lean towards NORTH TEXAS though over UNT.

  27. This SOW thing is ridiculous. Now it's going to be on the field, on the press box side, on the student side, but it can't be on the helmets? I'm so damn tired of "North Texas" on the helmet. It's been 10 years and most people still don't know who "North Texas" is RV; time to let it go. We'll get just as much brand recognition if not more by having a recognizable logo than trying to train people by spelling out "North Texas" on the helmets. Also maybe then the "North Texas State" references would stop.

  28. Unfortunately there's nothing 'Mean' looking about the color white. The first combat gear posted with black pants/pads and white lettering is a step in the right direction.

  34. First off, it was a one year scheduling thing, next year should be better, and the year before was decent(A&M, South Florida, UNLV, College of Charleston, Northeastern etc. SMU needs 2 or 3 high majors on the schedule, 3 or so better mid majors, and D1 low major gimmes. Hate on the program all you want, but from a roster & system stand point, they've turned the corner. Next year, one ofthe mids on the schedule is New Mexico and rumors of Creighton swirl, so the schedule will bump up. You want a Metroplex Tourney, make it for charity, and then whomever doesn't want in, looks bad. That's what happened at the BB&T in DC. Georgetown and Maryland hate each other, but Maryland can't say no to local charity and plays this awful backyard brawl of a tourney every year. Gtown won't play, so john Feinstein just kills them in the press. Create enough crap press, maybe a big boy starts to care about UNTs wants and needs, until then, no.

  36. Since the last round of rebranding in 2005, the academic side of the university only uses "University of North Texas" or "UNT." "North Texas" has been left to the athletic department and unlike the academic side of the university, it doesn't use UNT for sports teams which leads to some confusion. Inevitably "North Texas" leads to someone unfamiliar with the university or an inept sports commentator saying "North Texas State" which was retired back in 1988. "UNT" is rarely confused with "NTSU" and I think would make for a much better public brand than the university using "UNT" while the athletic department uses "North Texas." So, which one would you prefer the athletic department go by? UNT Mean Green or North Texas Mean Green? Edit: Also, "N. Tex" or "NT" constantly appears in national broadcasting box scores which only seems to add to the confusion since the NTSU days.

  41. There are have and have not programs in every conference. It's up to the rest of the conference members who actually turn a profit, appear in bowls, and have their stuff together to help the have-nots survive, right? I mean, isn't that the fair thing to do? Hang in there with them and be equitable? Surely, as UNT grows, wins, donations increase, and the program flourishes, and other schools continue to be a suck, UNT has a responsibility to yank their underachieving asses along with them instead of favoring jettisoning them, or bolting to a conference without the drain, don't they?

  42. ULM brings nothing to the table. they are a poor school academically with minimun athletic funding whose students recently voted against an athletic fee. in addition they are in a rual part of Louisiana with few people and little following. as distasteful as it might seem to some, i would cut them loose. and yes, we can finger point. i am proud of what we have accomplished this past decade. we just have outgrown them. it happens.

  46. Lol, its glick, master of the drive-by. Big boy would be any team in a superior conference, w/better facilities, more money, more prestige etc. You know, schools/programs, that for whatever reason, have more clout and get to determine the nature of the relationship. You have to make backyard brawls appealing to those schools, not just say we're pretty good at hoops, let's play. I told you how to leverage SMU into a potential game etc. I've seen it done that way, time & again, even provided an example. It doesn't matter in the slightest, if you draw 3k or SMU draws 1k, doesn't even enter the equation. That doesn't mean anything in the scope of getting a game like this done. Like SMU is giddy over the possibility of a 5k turnout at Moody, as an enticement for the game,. Get real and bring something to the table. Would you take a 2 for 1? lol
