  1. I think most of us on this board would agree that NMSU would be/has been a great rival for NT. I have really enjoyed watching those games...and they do see to be a natural rival for us.

Let's PACK THE HOUSE for each stop on the Caravan! GO MEAN GREEN!

  3. Great news! Thanks, Andy...looking forward to seeing you again this year....I am also certain this might raise our female participation level...or at least spectator numbers. By the way...I noted on the Facebook page that Johnny Quinn is listed as attending...anyone know if this is for certain? Maybe we can get the bobsledder to play as well as attend...anyone have any contact info. Just think what type of receiving corps some team might have? Could it possibly fall to one of our coaches to draft Scott Hall (come on Scott, you know you can't miss this), Andy Blount and Johnny Quinn???? Just sayin'. Folks, if you are on the "sidelines" about whether you want to sign up and play, let me assure you that you will have a great time if you decide to play...plus, you will be helping out a great cause in the Andrew Smith Memorial Scholarship fund as well.

  5. So just how long does he think it will take us to get to where we need to go? I think it will take 4 years to compete again for a Sun Belt Championship and 6-7 years before we can get a top 25 ranking.

  6. Some of us old timers will argue that a man named John Savage should be on that list. John was from Detroit, Texas and played at North Texas from 1960-61 through 1963-64. In those days Freshmen were not eligible for varsity competition so he only got three years to compile his statistics. At that time the old Missouri Valley Conference was as good as any in the country. Cincinatti won two national championships and lost a third one in overtime during that period. John was a great player on some bad teams. One year he was selected as All Missouri Valley from a team that won only two games all season. John was selected as All - MVC for all three of the years that he played. It is hard to compare eras but he would have been outstanding in any era. I was sure glad that I got to see him play. 7. Brian Mullen doesn't get the foul, so he decides to take it out on the closest Seattle player, Steve Zakuani, breaking the fibula and tibula. Listen close, you can hear the leg snap. MLS has not yet handed down punishment, but I would suspend him for the season. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR8SKfUB8YE&feature=related

  10. UNT90 - please read other sarcastic posts on this thread and give them your equally unfunny 'bit warning/trying to hard/etc.' reply. I wish we all could have the comedic brilliance that you were born with but some of us must work with what we we're given. Sorry I offended your intelligence with my less than adequate wit.

  13. I doubt we get a big bump in attendance with an SMU home game. SMU would bring NO ONE to the pit from their"fan base." This ain't the football forum, folks. We got bigger fish to fry than these 2 wastes of basketball programs.

  17. Well - it's not anything right now - we need to focus on Bring top 50 teams to the Pit to build attendance and revenue

  18. I tend to agree here. Texas State has good potential to get off the ground fairly quickly in a watered-down WAC. They would probably love a regional conference with an in-state rival and travel partner, so that might make sense. I would still go after NMSU, also, to get the SBC to 12 teams, with the understanding that La Tech only gets in if ULM drops down. The funny part here is that LA Tech has looked so far down their noses at ULM and the SBC that it will be sweet to see them fall off the FBS map because the SBC continues to grow and show stability and the mere fact that ULMs presence in the SBC would blackball La Tech from ever joining. Its almost like the reverse of our situation with SMU and CUSA. As an aside, I still cannot believe that SMU would back La Tech for CUSA inclusion--what a joke...

  19. If you are referring to SMU as the "big boy" in your scenario, then you are as dumb as you sound. I don't know many self-proclaimed "big boys" that get 1,000 fans on a good night, when the so-called little guy draws over 4,000 nightly. Say what you want, but SMU just lost the best player they have had in forever and was .500 against division one teams. The only corner you have turned is from bad to mediocre, congratulations.

  22. Argument #1 - Cost A board in the midst of the wing zone would be relatively expensive in order to be seen. In an effort to keep costs to a minimum the north end zone board was scrapped. Argument #2 - Necessity With a much larger and more complete board at the south end of the stadium the smaller board became unnecessary because 99% would be looking in that direction anyway. Argument #3 - Aesthetics A board in the middle of the wing zone would be coyote ugly and detract from the uniqueness of the special design. Argument #4 - Misconception Some would say that it was only the artist's conception of what the stadium might look like with a few bells and whistles.

  26. I don't know if Jordan is capable of playing the 2 right now , but for fun let's just say he is Talk about some nightmare matchup problems for opposing teams with this lineup on the floor Alzee 6'4 JWill 6'6 Franklin 6'4 Mitchell 6'8 Hogans 6'7 DMiller 6'8 / Holmen 6'8 I would love to add in another transfer , because there is a lot of talent out there. However , with Franklin and Mitchell not being a sure thing that would leave us with only 10 ship players going in. If NCAA grants Franklin the waiver and Mitchell makes the grade , then I'm with Cooley wanting Shaw in here

  27. I am sure we did not try to recruit him because he is local but Doug Fryer from Argyle was undersized as a post player at 6-3 but was never out played - Fryer averaged 11.4 points per game-9.1 rebounds and two blocked shots - he was named to the first team District 9-3A and was all-region selection. If he is still available - he would be my pick.

  31. ...is that we must trust them. Today, only three threads with posts, and we're less than 10 days from the beginning of spring practices. Things have been real tensed up around here since the waning of the Dickey Era and through the entire Dodge Era. With not so many daily threads or fights, we seem to be in a weird zone of Mean Green Peace. I hope it's worth it. I think this staff will do great things. No...I think this staff will get the players to do great things; better things than we've ever seen around here in a long time.

  32. I'm pretty sure they moved it because the whole stadium can see the video board when it's placed on the south end. Also, I think Denia complained about some aspect of the board being on the wing. Anyways, this is REALLY old news.

  33. First off, it was a one year scheduling thing, next year should be better, and the year before was decent(A&M, South Florida, UNLV, College of Charleston, Northeastern etc. SMU needs 2 or 3 high majors on the schedule, 3 or so better mid majors, and D1 low major gimmes. Hate on the program all you want, but from a roster & system stand point, they've turned the corner. Next year, one ofthe mids on the schedule is New Mexico and rumors of Creighton swirl, so the schedule will bump up. You want a Metroplex Tourney, make it for charity, and then whomever doesn't want in, looks bad. That's what happened at the BB&T in DC. Georgetown and Maryland hate each other, but Maryland can't say no to local charity and plays this awful backyard brawl of a tourney every year. Gtown won't play, so john Feinstein just kills them in the press. Create enough crap press, maybe a big boy starts to care about UNTs wants and needs, until then, no.

  35. Personally, I think UNT will be competing for a Sunbelt crown within 3 years...not 4. The top 25 ranking...6-7 seems about right, would like to see it in 5-6. Heck, I'd like to see it next season...well how about 2011, but just might take Coach McCarney a bit longer than that to turn the ship around. GO MEAN GREEN!
