  1. Was looking for the Knox interview from yesterday and found this on YouTube (posted last night). This post has been promoted to an article

  2. I've seen this before. Two well-meaning jokesters realize how fun it is to mock everything and everything about this board. They antogonize like mad and go from being universally hated to somewhat accepted due to their sheer force of will. Long-time readers might even find themselves giving them props they never expected to give at some of the better placed comments. Things are going well. Then...something changes. They start posting all the time and weighing in on everything. Without realizing it, they are the ones driving the same banal conversations they showed up to mock. Next, they meet a poster at a game or find out someone they kind of know is already posting. From there, all bets are off. Firefighters shake their hands and tell them they may not always agree, but they are great fans. They meet some more folks at a tailgate and realize they are good people. Finally, they look down and see a 4 digit post count climbing rapidly and realize - gasp- they've gone native. I'll give you the same advice I tried to give your fathers a little more than two decades ago -- pull out now and slow things down before you get stuck.

  8. Tom Grieve was very complementary again this afternoon on his weekly show with BADD radio. They were talking about Knoxy interviewing an old lady (big surprise I know) and Grieve brought up how impressed he was with McCarney's passion and enthusiasm and what not. It was an unprovoked UNT mention and I was very surprised and impressed.

  9. cl is right. The uback and tightend however are almost always on the field at the same time and I cant think of a time when they aren't. I hope to see the uback featured in alot of bootleg type plays this year. I think some added motion with the uback when we are in the I and throw in a bootleg will really help us get the ball into the flats or deep drags depending on the direction the play is designed to go.

  12. I think these are a good idea to have for the AD, but I hope that Coach Mac knows what he is getting into if one or more of these events have less than 50 people show up. I am sure he does, but I guess its the history of these events fromt he past that worry me. Hopefully, we will get a full house at each spot and make this concern a moot point!!

  14. I believe Terell Brooks makes the biggest impact as a true freshman, because (1) he's a physically ready DT, and it is a need position, and (2) from comments I've read from/about him, it sounds like he's been told he will definitely play as a freshman. There are several others I'm very impressed with, though.

  18. So as a few of you know, and most of you don't, I'm a musician of the singer-songwriter variety. I released my very first album on January 18th, which is titled "Old Denton Roads", a nod to some of the best times of my life and the source of several songs on the album. The songs are alt-country, country, and kind-of-not country. So if you like any of that, you might like it. (If you don't like it, don't tell me... I have a fragile ego) OMG how is this football-related? Okay, chill; I'm getting to that. As I was saying, I loved Denton and my time at UNT. So naturally, when I finished the album I wanted to think of a way to give back. Since I spend a good amount of my internet free-time on this fabulous resource we know as GMG, I figured this would be a solid way to realize that ambition. Andrew Smith was QB during my last years at UNT. It was a profound loss by the entire Mean Green community, as well as many families, friends, and his home town. I'd love to donate to this worthy cause, but I'm a cliche, broke, wandering musician. What I can do is donate my craft. I'll donate EVERY cent I make from downloads from CD Baby for the rest of this month. CD Baby offers me a rate of 70 cents on each dollar sold through their website- the highest of the online retailers. It also has the quickest turnaround for payment. So downloading an album ($10) results in a $7 donation to the Andrew Smith Memorial Fund. To download go to http://www.cdbaby.co...rantleecroucher I'll provide complete transparency to the board throughout the process. The sale will commence today and run through April 30. Thanks for your time, support of local independent music, UNT Athletics, and GMG! -Brant '03

  19. As a true freshman, Franklin played behind James Anderson, who was drafted #20 in the first round of the NBA draft. In fact, I was hoping that he was going to be around for the Mavericks. Marshall Moses, (All Big 12 this year) backed Anderson up. (I think) Anyway, Moses was their best player this year with All Big 12 Defender Jean-Paul Olukemi, further limiting minutes All OSU fans are eagerly waiting on the arrival next year of Dallas' 6-7 McDonald's All-American LeBryan Nash; to step right into that spot. He is Rivals #4 recruit with 5 Stars. (Which I don't don't pay attention to) These fans, in opinion, will be very disappointed in Nash. At any rate, Roger didn't want to possibly waste his junior year and felt that Travis Ford would feel forced to play Nash. Now, to hopefully temper Mean Greens fan's enthusiasm, Franklin will not be a star. He is, as you mentioned, a tweaner. He will, however, bring the necessary hustle and intensity that this team has lacked. He'll be more than a role player but should not be mentioned in the same breath as T. Mitch. I think the Sunbelt is more suited for his talents than the Big 12. Like many kids, he just over signed at OSU. Good player but a small forward (only) at 6-4. I've enjoyed watching Roger since both he and Shawn Williams starred at Duncanville freshmen. They reloaded and help DHS capture state in their Soph season. In my mock lineup, I have Franklin starting ahead of Jordan Williams at the 3. Roger, I feel is more D1 ready than Williams. As for as the last ship, I agree with everyone that we must find a big. I have now had an opportunity to watch 3 of Midland's playoff games. I haven't seen anything from Dwight Miller to get excited about. I would not be opposed to JJ signing the best player available, regardless of position. The 2012 class maybe where we land the big men we desire. (To replace Alonzo Edwards, K. Hogan and possibly Knox due to graduation) http://www.prepticke...ille-basketball http://www.prepticke...-Roger-Franklin http://www.prepticket.com/articles/detail/National/SouthWest/OK/college/Oklahoma-St-Cowboys/Duncanville's-Dynamic-Duo:-Roger-Franklin-and-Shawn-Williams http://www.prepticke...e-at-Cedar-Hill Click here to view the article

  27. This is what it takes. The program, and the tradition at any school is painstakingly built, picked up, and carried by every class. It is never handed down, and must be nurtured at all times. McCarney and his staff are reaching back to UNT's past, and attempting to reach UNT's future. Very exciting to see. It will pay dividends.

  28. This is such great stuff. It is going to do wonders for the attendance at UNT home games and should build support for a new generation of UNT students to look forward to attending games. All our coaches need to be doing this sort of work, and I hope it builds and isn't just a "first year-new HC" sort of thing. I don't think it is, but we'll see about that going forward. For now, this is fantastic. If Coach Mac's efforts are not rewarded with increased attendance it would be very sad and make quite a statement about UNT. Winning and this type of effort will turn the tide for UNT. You have to start with this sort of effort both on and off the field. So far, so good. Thank you Coach Mac and thanks to everyone who is helping to set these meetings up for Coach Mac. Excellent stuff...excellent!

  29. Folks, check out the PayPal donations site for the Andrew Smith Scholarship Fund...we now sit at $400!!!!! That is only $100 away from our stated on-line PayPal goal of $500...can we do it? YES! THANKS to a couple of new and generous donations (one being a rather large generous donation), we are within reach of this part of our goal. The overall goal for the game is to net $1500 for the Andrew Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund. With a $500 goal through the PayPal site we are on our way. So, we need $100 to make the PayPal goal...would you consider helping out with a contribution? BIG OR SMALL they all help and they are all very much appreciated. We simply cannot reach our goal without your help. So far including all sources we stand at a gross of $680.00. Obviously, there are expenses, t-shirts, printing, etc., but we are still well over a month away from kick-off, so time is still on our side. Won't you please consider a gift to the fund? Remember, you can wait and provide a contribution on game game day, so if you are not an on-line fan, no problem. Thanks to everyone who supports this project. By the way...have you noticed the BILLIARD FACTORY logo on the GoMeanGreen.Com site? Well, click on it and take a look at all the great and fun "stuff" the Billiard factory has to offer. The Billiard Factory is this year's game t-shirt sponsor. One of the Mean Green's own, and a player in the GMG.Com Bowl, unt88, helped us obtain this sponsorship. So, go see unt88 at the Billiard factory and let him know how much you appreciate the support for UNT when you are looking for some great game room equipment, tables, games, etc., etc. Click on the link here on the GMG.Com site...you'll be glad you did and surprised at the variety and quality of the items presented by the good folks at the BILLIARD FACTORY. Thanks to all our donors, sponsors and players to date...you are the one's who make this happen.

  32. Knox and Radigan were VERY complimentary of Dan McCarney and the job he had done at Iowa State. They both indicated that they thought UNT was headed for bigger and better things with Dan McCarney as the UNT Head Football Coach. Dan McCarney, as always, came across very positive and excited about the opportunity to turn around our Mean Green. Given the number of people who watch Rangers Baseball, we got A LOT of positive publicity from those 2 - 3 minutes of airtime.

  37. AND THE SIDE IS RETIRED. Does he really need to say this every half inning? He's really starting to grate on me. Part of me is holding out hope that the Rangers will see how much people are complaining about him and go to plan B. The other part knows they won't.

  40. I don't think we'll be stealing recruits from UT-Austin, OU, or A&M anytime soon, but there's no reason we shouldn't be competitive with the rest of the Big XII and CUSA schools in recruiting, especially as the wins start to come in. It's so refreshing to not have a HC that undersells the school.
    1 point
  41. Coach mac has stated repeatedly that there is no reason why UNT should not recruit the top players and stop trying to compete against the SFA's and Sam Houston's of the world. He wants UNT to recruit against the top D1 schools. Sure might lose more than UNT gets to sign in that competition right now, but UNT has the staff and the facilities to recruit for the best. Coach Mac intends to do that. It is already paying off as we can see from the list. This is the most players of this quality listing UNT as a choice that I have ever seen and I've been watching a pretty good bit of time. Way to go Coach Mac...and way to go RV & UNT for providing the facilities and opportunities that are attractive to this level of player. It's only going to get better from here. GO MEAN GREEN!
