  3. If Robinson were a pure center I might tend to agree, but I think I'll go with Jordon Williams because of his all around game. On the other hand, maybe I'll go with Franklin because of his leadership abilities and toughness? On third thought, I really like Trey Norris in that I think he can develop into a big-time scorer and assist guy down the road once he gets a couple of seasons under his belt. Hell, I think I like 'em all.

  4. I understand what you are saying, Thor, and I can possibly agree if this were the only instance. But my reaction was based on the statements by Vito that have occurred continously since Todd Dodge was fired (what, 6 - 7 months ago?). It is time for Vito to simply drop the negative and/or snide comments about Dodge or his tenure at UNT (and for God's sake, refrain from using the tired old saw "so-in-so got out of Dodge...."). Jeez, grow up Vito - act like the professtional you are supposed to be!

  10. The Sun Belt Seeding Committee is an absolute Joke right now for the Tennis Seeding on the Women's Side. Sun Belt Sports How in the world do you put ASU and ULL over Denver and UNT in the seedings? Also no way Troy and FAU are better than Denver and even UNT should not be higher than Denver. This actually might work out well for UNT getting the #6 seed being opposite of Denver and FIU. How the heck do they think Denver is worse than Troy, when Denver beat UNT 4-0 and UNT beat Troy 4-1. FAU beat noone!! ASU lost to Troy yet gets #4 seed This makes my head hurt but looks great for UNT to run to the Finals. Only team that could beat them will be ULM and I am not sold on them outside of their #1 Player. I think the team should sweep USA again and then clash with ULL in QTR.

  11. UNT wouldn't even let me use the seal for my groom cake when the wife and I, both UNT grads, got married in 08! I had to go buy invitations at the book store and have them scanned and reproduced for my personal use. Dude's a nut, but bravo to Winthrop for going along with it. I wonder if we could rent Scrappy for the evening then head out to Frye st and have a few cocktails on a Thursday night. University cool with that?

  12. I like having one of those events at the Park Place Lexus. Kudos to the AD and whoever else was involved in setting this up. Really seems like the more and more we see coming out of the Athletic Dept just keeps getting better and better.

  13. I like it, too, but for a different reason. I have told my daughter that if a future son-in-law does not fly right with her or me, instead of sitting in club seating with the rest of us, his butt will be sitting in the highest seat in the tip of the wing! But you know, I really find the seats in the tip of the wing intriguing – maybe I will try it out myself when Mean Green Stadium hosts high school playoff games this coming fall.

  16. As a true freshman, Franklin played behind James Anderson, who was drafted #20 in the first round of the NBA draft. In fact, I was hoping that he was going to be around for the Mavericks. Marshall Moses, (All Big 12 this year) backed Anderson up. (I think) Anyway, Moses was their best player this year with All Big 12 Defender Jean-Paul Olukemi, further limiting minutes All OSU fans are eagerly waiting on the arrival next year of Dallas’ 6-7 McDonald’s All-American LeBryan Nash; to step right into that spot. He is Rivals #4 recruit with 5 Stars. (Which I don't don't pay attention to) These fans, in opinion, will be very disappointed in Nash. At any rate, Roger didn't want to possibly waste his junior year and felt that Travis Ford would feel forced to play Nash. Now, to hopefully temper Mean Greens fan's enthusiasm, Franklin will not be a star. He is, as you mentioned, a tweaner. He will, however, bring the necessary hustle and intensity that this team has lacked. He'll be more than a role player but should not be mentioned in the same breath as T. Mitch. I think the Sunbelt is more suited for his talents than the Big 12. Like many kids, he just over signed at OSU. Good player but a small forward (only) at 6-4. I’ve enjoyed watching Roger since both he and Shawn Williams starred at Duncanville freshmen. They reloaded and help DHS capture state in their Soph season. In my mock lineup, I have Franklin starting ahead of Jordan Williams at the 3. Roger, I feel is more D1 ready than Williams. As for as the last ship, I agree with everyone that we must find a big. I have now had an opportunity to watch 3 of Midland’s playoff games. I haven’t seen anything from Dwight Miller to get excited about. I would not be opposed to JJ signing the best player available, regardless of position. The 2012 class maybe where we land the big men we desire. (To replace Alonzo Edwards, K. Hogan and possibly Knox due to graduation) http://www.prepticke...ille-basketball http://www.prepticke...-Roger-Franklin http://www.prepticket.com/articles/detail/National/SouthWest/OK/college/Oklahoma-St-Cowboys/Duncanville's-Dynamic-Duo:-Roger-Franklin-and-Shawn-Williams http://www.prepticke...e-at-Cedar-Hill This post has been promoted to an article

  18. Not only does he demonize Dodge he deifies Darrell R. Dickey; both of which should be dropped and move on to the current situation. If Vito can keep his emotions out of it he does a very good job.

  19. I'm sure part of that was related to the turf but it looks as if the UA shoes may have played a part as well. Not all of the foot/leg injuries occured at Fouts. Nike has been making shoes for a long time and they likely have the best going. But, if our new uniforms look anything like Oregon's I'll throw up (which I haven't done in more than 50 years).

  21. Glad to have Franklin but despite all his high school heroics, he was a bench player with a mediocre OSU team. That doesn't mean he want be great at NT, but at the same time I don't think he is automatically a star in a lessor conference. While high school accolades are meaningful, it is far from recruiting a four star player directly out of high school. There are a lot of "rebound" players who do very well in the Belt but there are also plenty of examples of players that do not. Jones has been very successful with transfers and I think he will be right about Franklin. The best thing I have hear about Franklin is that he is a leader and good defensive player, not that he couldn't be an offensive force at NT. I can think of two very good offensive post players about his size that played for NT. One, fairly recent, Deginald Erskin who was a great offensive player around the basket at a listed 6'5. He would have been prominent in the NT record books if he had not transferred. The other was Kenan Dubose who was a transfer from Arkansas who was also great on the offensive end. Only time will tell if Franklin can recapture some of his high school glory. He is a tweener and as such it will be very interesting to see how he is used. The potential for something great is certainly there, but a good hard nosed defensive player is certainly welcome regardless of his offensive play.

  26. My guess all that animosity was spawned by Vito's reporting of the racial discrimination charges by a few of the players. I really think both should have moved on, but frankly I can understand Dodge's reaction. The paper gave a lot of ink to the charges but said basically nothing when the claims were deemed without merit. There are very few things that can be more harmful to a program than those type of allegations. Dodge apparently responded by giving Vito less than ideal access and a very uneasy relationship was endured by both.

  30. Terrible analogy, Seuss. We're not talking about dated technology, we're talking about branding. If you want to make a case for latest/greatest, talk about how any new clothing technology can be incorporated without changing the look. Part of any universities identity and tradition is branding, and that element of UNT should have nothing to do with whether we are winning or losing. It is the design, logos and color schemes that can tie generations of students together. It is the idea that two alumni, 30 years apart, can say they own the same apparel and cheered for the same brand regardless of whether those teams won or lost. You can't convince anyone (including yourself, I think) there is no value in that. Mean Green Eagles are the boondoggle in college sports of branding. We can't seem to keep the same name, same shade of green or same font type for more than 10 years. We need to pick something and just stick with it. I swear, the day the national media finally realizes we are UNT and not NTSU is the day we will have moved onto another name.

  31. I happen to hate all the new age-y type jerseys (either the "body suit" types or the ones with those ridiculous under images on them). Give me a classic looking jersey like UCLA - which is basically the same one they've had for the last 40 years.

  34. You just made my point, we've used the same jerseys for 5 seasons. Time for a change, youve prob gone through two computers, a car, football team changed sponsors twice, 2 NCAA tournament appearances, the list goes on. The nike jerseys are the best in the ncaa, if they werent then why does everyone use them??

  36. Our men's basketball uniforms have been the same since the 06-07 season and are nearly identical to those of Duke, with some small differences and a different maker. On the Wilson website the style is actually called "Duke". So we do use an off-the-shelf uniform design, but with our own font. Interesting observation: We started wearing the Duke style uniforms after Quincy Williams' brother Sheldon graduated from Duke. The men's practice jerseys are Nike and have a cool design on the back that looks like a net.

  37. the jerseys now being worn are made by Wilson. That's a laugh, never have i seen any other team with Wilson uniforms. I am for the switch to anything for the sake of the players. They constantly are having to tuck in their jersey, tuck in their jersey, tuck in their jersey and they obviously don't breath worth crap. The players HATE the road greens which is why they haven't worn them all season so by getting a new company would create a better uniform layout. F.Y.I. The UNT women use Nike

  38. I think they look cool, I just don't think it "fits us." For some reason I don't know how to explain it other than that. EDIT: It's like the "North Texas Basketball" brand needs to make its statements with good basketball and not flashy jerseys. I do think our jerseys could be improved a bit. If I personally had control I would ditch the black uniforms and add green to everything (like GreenP1 said).

  39. PLEASE NO NIKE BASKETBALL JERSEYS! I am a nike fan in all other sports but their basketball uniforms are horrible in my opinion. They look like sleeveless compression shirts with shorts that are so big that I'm not sure they can technically be considered shorts. I kinda like our jerseys as is but if we are going to upgrade I really hope we don't go with nike.

  46. I had a big presentation in front of the Board of directors today and really needed to make a good impression. I even wore my lucky kelly green tie to make sure I nailed it. So anyway, I am giving the presentation of my life and get to the budget portion of the event. Let's face it - 2008 was a rough year economically and I don't know when things are going to turn around. So, as I'm speaking about some different yields from investments, I get to one that hasn't quite gone as planned and one of the older guys lets me hear about it. "If I wanted that shitty of an ROI, I'd have fired Coach Dickey and hired a high school coach." Man, I just lose it. I know he is a big wig around these parts with his fancy SMU degree, but I wasn't hearing it. "Why don't we get mf'n June Jones and see how many more wins he has this year against D1 teams!?" I screamed as I lunged across the table with an Eppy paperweight I kept on my slide notes. I just bashed his skull into dust as the other board members looked on in terror. Then, I ripped his head off of his neck and covered my body in his blood, daring the others to attack me as I recited Housman's "To an Athlete Dying Young." Then, I threw his corpse against the table and predicted a 40-33 win this weekend and proceeded to mime out what necrophilia would look like with a headless man. We all had a good laugh about it and - long story short - we got the budget we need to really get our department rolling in 2009 (JUST LIKE TODD DODGE AFTER HE RECRUITS THIS YEAR!) GO MEAN GREEN!!!!111!!!!!!11!!!
