People are worried about the defense. And, people are worried about the offense. When the freshmen arrive, there will be more depth along the defensive line. This sounds crazy. But, McCarney did have freshmen excel on the DL at both Iowa State and Florida. The guy knows what he's doing. I'm not saying the newcomers will be All-Americans. I'm just saying that we have guys in charge now who know what to do. Until we're 3-9 again, I'm trusting them. Love the athleticism at LB, by the way. As to the QBs, either one will be green in more ways than one. I trust Canales to keep those guys within themselves and protect the ball. The turnovers this weekend were bad. But, there is a long way to go yet. Physically, I like the look of Thompson and Osborn. But, let's be honest, as young as the offensive line is, this will be the year Lance Dunbar will really be the key. He'll have to create some things for himself to keep the passing game open. I think this will be his toughest year, so he needs to be mentally ready. Unless there is some sort of miracle development in Thompson or Osborn, the Mean Green offense will go as Dunbar goes. Tight end. Snaps from under center. U-backs. All men together, pulling one rope. Kick punt good. Kick punt good. Return return return. You see it, you believe it.6 points

+1 UNTP1! I swear, some of you complain because you don't know any better. Thank you Fouts for years of memories, but THANK YOU to RV and the current administration for finally committing to a stadium that the students, alumni, lettermen and players can really be proud of and not being the punchline for stadium jokes anymore.3 points

I thought you posted in another thread that he did a terrible job. Looks like a bit poster to me.2 points

Also, it doesn't even have a track! It's like we're downgrading from our current facility.2 points

Name tags couold be worn with a t-shirt, a polo shirt, on the lapel of a sport jacket, or on a ball cap. A name tag won't get so dirty a quick wipe with a paper towel can't clean it. And lastly, ONE SIZE FITS ALL. No need to ask it the name tag is 100% cotton, etc.2 points

It's way better than fouts. Nuff said.2 points

Let's work on consistently selling it out before we worry and complain about adding more seats.2 points

None taken. However you obvioulsy lack some common sense skills. Fact: UNT right now is a much better basketball program than SMU. Are both programs getting better?...sure. Those players have not stepped on the court yet though, so it doesn't matter for either of us. To illustrate the obvious, let me attempt a sort of "mascot metaphor": UNT: Soaring Eagle SMU: A little girls' gelded mini-horse covered from head to hoof in pink ribbons and glitter.2 points

I'm just happy we'll no longer have to rent generators to host a football game. I'll be smiling ear to ear come Sept 10th, proud as a new parent, ready to witness the phoenix rise, with no complaints about the entire facility.1 point

Just sign up to play in either (or both) the GMG.Com flag football game or Basketball Classic and you'll have yourself a nifty t-shirt with your GMG.com name on the back.1 point

I don't think that the name tags are nerdy unless half the country are nerds because thousands of gatherings use name tags. Having said that, the t-shirt idea is the best and you won't go off and leave a t-shirt as you might a name tag.1 point

We did and he committed, then de-committed and headed to El Paso. I wish him well, but don't really care to read about him unless we play them in the future. I am pleased with who we have and believe Thompson or Osborn will do just fine for the next three years.1 point

Gagree. And like somebody said on another thread I'd rather start out with a 30k seat stadium that we consistantly fill and in turn looks really great on T.V. than a 40k seat stadium with empty spaces all over the place. I too cannot wait for the day that we expand to 50k and have a packed house every home game but until we can do that I am perfectly happy with what we have.1 point

As long as Rhadigan doesn't piss off Grieve, it appears that the Rangers are happy. The problem is Grieve, who is testy and, frankly, a subpar color guy.1 point

I agree that the defense seems to be really making some progress. Not surprisingly they are looking really active and really aggressive. What is really noticeable is how aggressive the DB's are.....and how hard they are hitting out there. Not every receiver looked particularly sharp in the first part of the scrimmage, and a good bit of that could have been how aggressive the DB's were. Just about every catch they made(especially the ones over the middle) came with a price. I even saw one instance of "alligator arms"....and the receiver in question was someone that I regarded as VERY dependable last year. I'm feeling better about the DL situation. They are getting everyone into the rotation, and everyone seems to be getting better....albeit in small increments. The starting QB's did reasonably well. Of the top two, Thompson was the most comfortable and Osburn has the quickest release. He's trying to catch up, and he pushing a bit hard, and as a result he made some ill-advised throws. It'll be interesting to see what his comfort level is at the next scrimmage. Of the other two QB's. Chase Baine is the most athletic, and as I mentioned in another thread, Dodson seems to be the most confident....probably of all of them. As mentioned in other threads, we really seem to have gotten deep at RB. LD made a brief appearance and proceeded to show why he only has to make a brief appearance. Brandon Byrd looked good, but he needs to work on being a little more nifty and less of a battering ram. Jeremy Brown (#32) really got everyone's attention, especially after he took a pitch and started heading to his left, and then when his path was completely blocked, he planted his foot, did a complete 180, and took it around the other end for a first down. He had another great run of about 60 yards. But what was just as impressive was his yards up the middle. Mr. Brown is barely taller than Weston Squirer (#30, who also looked pretty impressive running up the middle) and probably weighs a little bit less. Another mystery RB was #36, who had some pretty impressive runs up the middle. And like Brown, he wasn't all that big. I didn't see James Hamilton out there. Has he changed his number?1 point

I bet he would have liked to have done just that, but you just know the eye rolls that Georgie gets whenever he talks too much UNT anything on the air, or otherwise for that matter, with certain on-air members of that station. Tough balancing act for George.1 point

I do agree P1: getting my CHL was cinch. I went into a day long course with minimal experience handling guns. Passed the test on my first try. Then I went in an hour before the field test the following Monday, practiced with my own pistol for the first time, then passed the test. But the nutjobs are going to get their guns, regardless of CHLs and laws. I never understood the CHL restrictions: can't carry on campuses. Can't carry in churches. Can't carry in sporting venues. So basically, we can't carry where the nutjobs target the masses.1 point
-
I've got mine, and no it is not. Individuals wishing to carry onto university grounds need to be made to spend extra money on courses designed specifically around the situations we're trying to avoid. Even then I'm still against it.1 point

Hey green guys & gals, I happen to work (web design) for a company who makes name tags, and we have a donation program that you might find useful. At very least, I'm sure we can swing you a deal on some sweet, mean & green name tags. Let me know what you think! www.nametag.com (Love the power glove idea! I'm all for this, if there's a ton of training and checks before someone gets the OK to carry. I'm not talking about some 10 hour course, I'm talking about 6 months of work that has to be done, and most of it in 2 areas: determining when it's the time to shoot and how to do so, and placing the right set of rounds onto the right target. I like the idea of someone being able to protect themselves, but I don't like the idea of additional rounds being thrown around with no real idea of where they're going. I'm not worried about a nutjob with a CHL rolling through campus. A nutjob will be armed no matter what. I am worried that you have a situation where someone did a CHL over the weekend when something like this really does require months and months of training for both WHEN to shoot and HOW to shoot, so they take their 6 hours of classes and start putting rounds downrange like a bad hollywood movie.0 points

It is costing closer to $80 million actually, adding those chairback bleachers would have cost a hell of a lot more than $10,000, and they did not put as much money into the wing because it's long term status in the stadium with potential expansion is questionable (at least that is what I've heard). I'm not a huge fan of the steel showing either, but at least the actual stands themselves are concrete in the endzone and not metal. It is a strange shape, so bricking the back of it or putting up concrete for a mural would look just as funky. The decision to paint the steel support beams green was a great one.0 points
