  2. Here is the Argument. ESPN: Look judge we gave CUSA money, but they didn't make us enough money in return, in fact we lost money. Therefore we are going to "in a forceable manner" make CUSA renegotiate the contract so we can pay less. CUSA: Look Judge it is not our fault ESPN lost money, if they had given us more media time to CUSA we may have been able to get more viewers to follow our winning teams such as Central Florida or Tulsa. Instead ESPN choose to show Rice, Houston, and SMU games because of the area. However, they are all located in one general area. Therefore, if Texas is not following CUSA how can ESPN make more money. Judges response: Look guys the Fiesta Bowl committee is meeting to determine how many call girls are needed to be purchased for nest years bowl. So we need to wrap this up.

  5. Well, according to Texas Hoops.com In its final & updated rankings for the 2011 class, 3 of the 4 HS recruits moved up the charts. As expected, Chris Jones jumped up to #12 while Trey Norris' stock improved to #29. Forrest Robinson, of 2A Eastland High, moved up to #30. Jordan Williams didn't move much and finished the year as Tx Hoops 8th best senior. Good luck to these guys and congratulations to the coaching staff for signing 4 of the the state's Top 30 recruits. JJ just missed out on the 11th ranked recruit, Devonte Abrons (Arkansas) and the #7 ranked recruit Terran Petteway (Texas Tech). With the help of Jordan Williams, we just missed out on convincing #13, Jordan Green to switch his commitment from A&M to UNT. #18 Kyan Anderson made a visit but ended up @ Providence. Chris Jones' teammate, Toddrick Gotcher (Texas Tech) came in at #19. With so much senior talent leaving Garland's Lakeview Centennial, coach Mauldin elected to retire today. Uncommitted forward Jarion Henry finished the season at #15. Grades appear to be his problem but many feel that he would love to join Williams. For those who think this program isn't improving, reread what I just typed! From the 2010 class, JJ just missed out on the Player of the Year in Texas (Brandon Peters) but ended up with the #2 recruit in Texas and Metroplex's Player of the Year, Tony Mitchell. http://texashoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1203525

  10. I will still support the hitting in practices regardless of injury. We've missed nastiness/toughness over the past few years. I long for the days when offenses didn't want to throw over the middle on us cause our safeties were notorious head hunters. We were nasty in the trenches on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Personally, I'm glad that Coach Mac has identified this area as a critical component to the teams future success.

  12. Kram, this is so on target that I can't want for the Obama supporters to explain this. The mainstream media won't ask him the hard questions, which is the polar opposite of how they treated Bush. Oh, and where is Cindy Sheehan? Shouldn't she be camped out in front of Obama's get-away in Hawaii picketing this war?

  13. Isn't the power of rationalization great when it comes to supporting one's personal opinion? Those that did not like Bush will always find some way to throw Bush out as the root of all that is wrong and find a way to bless Obama for all he is doing right...and vice versa. It was enjoyable to me to listen to Obama use some of the same "logic" in speaking to the country last evening that Bush had used in his speeches...of course, even Obama couldn't resist taking a shot at Bush last night. you know, it's just different when your guy says it! Too funny. Folks, call it what you want, rationalize it any way you want too, the US went to war under Bush's watch and did so under Obama's watch. Remember, there was a coalition of nations involved in both the Iraq wars and in Afghanistan...there is a coalition involved in the Libyan campaign. Call it what you want...blame whoever you want, bullets and missiles are flying and people are being killed. The U.S. has very little "vital interests" to be tied to Libya, and even if we had the proof, no one will ever know if the people of Benghazi (spelling?) would have been slaughtered as Obama said they would be to justify the US initiated attack. What I do know is that US troops are now involved in a conflict on three fronts. Very tough situation, and in my opinion, this Libyan thing may see "boots on the ground" before it is all said and done. Nice that we can justify this one as a humanitarian effort in which we now want to take a back seat. Right! You go Arab League! You go NATO!

  14. Again, never letting facts stand in the way of the statements that you throw out. A car bomb does not go off in every neighborhood in Iraq every day. As a matter of fact, bombings are in steep decline in Iraq as the country becomes a more stabile democracy (yes, still a long way to go). I bet you a poll would show that the Iraqi citizens are much happier now than under Sadam's rule. To credit Egypt and Tanzania with the uprising in Lybia, but not credit Iraq for having the same effect on Eygpt and Tanzania is just disingenuous. Yes, the US helped establish the democracy in Iraq, but don't you think the rebels in Lybia and Syria want the same thing from us now? Is it your position that the Iraqi people were happy living under Sadam's rule? Did they not want their freedom? Like I said, who knows what form of government will come to be in these nations. But if there is a true desire for democracy, you can thank the US forces that worked so hard to help Iraq establish the 1st such Muslim based democracy in the region.

  17. The thing is, the one thing all of these uprisings have in common is (again, if you believe the organizers of the uprisings) democracy. It is not a coincidence that once Iraq proved that a democracy could flourish (albeit at a fledging stage), other citizens of the region would want the same form of government, especially considering the history of oppession in that area of the world. You say 6 years is a long time? I say 6 years is a blip on the history screen considering the long history of that region of the world. Once the people 1) saw the benefits of democracy, and 2) believed it was possible for a democracy to succeed in their country, then and only then did they decide they were willing to make the sacrafice to fight for what they wanted. Frankly, I'm surprised it happened this soon. Again, this is assuming they aren't just saying they want democracy to get the help of the West, only to decide that a different form of government (religious theocracy, their own form of dictatorship, etc..) is what they want once the current leadership is deposed. Only time will tell, but if new democracies spring up in this region, you would be naive to dismiss the Iraqi effect.

  19. 1. CIT - Santa Clara won last night (and way to go considering they knocked off SMU in the semis) 2. CBI - Creighton is tied with Oregon 1-1 (the championship round is a best of 3). The Ducks have homecourt for Game 3 I believe, so this would be a bit of a surprise at this point. Still doable though. 3. NIT - Wichita State plays Alabama in the Championship game tonight. WSU demolished Washington State in the semis. This should be a great game. 4. NCAA - Butler or VCU are assured of being in the title game.

  22. I'm going to throw my $.02 into this mess. Back when we hired JJ, we used to play the privates--because we were perceived to be an easy win to them. Once we got our hoops program going, though, those two teams ran away from us and, now UTA, fairly quickly. Look, I don't blame them at all. The DFW Media loves old SWC schools, so they have a huge advantage over us and UTA on that front. They have done this in football, as well. When did we play TCU alot in football? Back when Fran became their coach and they were needing to get wins. Once they started winning and moving their program up to a level that no one could have dreamed they would be at today, North Texas appears nowhere on their schedule, although Texas State or Northwestern State get to play them. SMU scheduled a two-game series with us in football in 2006, we beat them once and it cost them a bowl game. Yes, we got rescheduled for a possible long series with them--starting in 2014, conveniently long after their $2 million coach gets time to reconstruct their program. If June Jones leaves or SMU really dives back down again and we somehow become good again in football, who on here doesn't believe that this long series will get cancelled? Its just the nature of dealing with the two very rich, very well-covered private schools who are lucky to be the only schools in two big cities. Look at what our men's hoops team ahs done without playing either of those teams. We have become a very good team and our recruiting has really picked up. Fortunately, we play in a league that we can win, even if it is perceived to be a down league. SMU, and especially TCU, have no chance at winning their league, IMO. CUSA, even though the league has dropped big-time since Calipari left Memphis, still has schools that support their teams and get better recurits than SMU ever will. Memphis, UH, and UTEP alone are ahead of them and will always have easier entrance requirements than SMU. TCU is about to enter the belly of the Beast. They will get an infusion of cash from being in that league, and I do think their recruiting will pick up, but that league is waaaaayyyy to tough for them for the foreseeable future. Finishing 2-18 or 4-16 in conference play each year will not help them at all. Now, lets assume for a moment that the SBC doesn't stay at the level of being at its worst in probably 20 years. We have WKU in the east that has a program that is traditionally very solid, while other schools like USA or UALR have been hit or miss for many years. Essentially, though, its been us and WKU for the last 5 years and who doesn't see that continuing, as long as we have a solid coach? We can make the NCAAs from our league each year--those two private schools to the south really can't say that, unless they really catch lightning in a bottle. Our way, athletically, is not going to involve SMU or TCU--its going to actually revolve around doing something crazy to most UNT fans--ignoring them. All we ever hear from RV or our coaches is that we should play them every year, but the funny thing is that you never hear the ADs at TCU or SMU say this about UNT. I will say this until the day I die, but we will know that we have reached the promised land, athletically speaking, when we hear those sentiments coming from DFW, and not from Denton. Keep playing UTA every year, leave the other two to play themselves and hope that their 80-year SWC relationship with the old guard Texas media will continue to hold them up high. For most of us, we realize that, unless TCU can keep it up in football, the chances of that happening in an evolving media world, are slim to none. Their fanbase is just not big enough to garner that kind of attention without winning big.

  23. BS, no one yet believes that SMU is a good program and you are hanging way too much value on the CUSA conference. The Belt is bad but CUSA is not much better. If you disregard the fans, the rpi, and a post season bid you don't have to pay for; I guess SMU's scheduling makes sense. Frankly, at this point a NT loss to SMU would be worse for NT than a SMU loss to NT would be for SMU. NT gains nothing from your type of prospective by beating SMU and risks the mythical area best BB program title with a game against any metroplex rival. However, the fans would have a great game that would probably one of the highest attended contests for either school of the year., but those things I guess are of little importance

  27. You are pretty far off there pal....You will never have a chance at an at large bid to the NCAA tournament playing 4-5 division 2 and 3 schools a year....Furthermore, if anyone has nothing to win from a UNT-SMU game it is UNT, our program is far ahead of SMU's and UNT's RPI has been about twice as high as SMU's has for years. The reason most UNT fans would like to see it is just to beat the pants off a group of pink polo shirt wearing fags.

  28. I do agree P1: getting my CHL was cinch. I went into a day long course with minimal experience handling guns. Passed the test on my first try. Then I went in an hour before the field test the following Monday, practiced with my own pistol for the first time, then passed the test. But the nutjobs are going to get their guns, regardless of CHLs and laws. I never understood the CHL restrictions: can't carry on campuses. Can't carry in churches. Can't carry in sporting venues. So basically, we can't carry where the nutjobs target the masses.

  31. With over 80% of the precincts reported, Go Mean Green is just about ready to declare Bianco 1, the winner of the annual GMG.com (UNT Fans) March Madness contest. Five & Dime is actually tied with Bianco 1 but loses out in the first place tie breaker; Final Four teams picked. Bianco correctly picked 1 Final Four team (UConn) while Five & Dime's Cinderella season comes to an end. Still in the running for first place is NTSkulls, who correctly picked Kentucky to advance to the Final Four. The only other person to correctly pick a Final Four participant was RobotGreggo. Greggo will not be able to surpass Five & Dime for the championship but could finish 2nd overall. (Also picked Kentucky) So, everything is on the line this Saturday and/or possibly Monday. First place winner will be awarded an autographed basketball from Shanice Stephens, with her career record nicely embroidered in Green. 2nd place winner will receive a basketball with the signatures of Ms Stephens' assistant coaches over the past 3 seasons. 32. Sorry, man...I think this is such failed logic. The idea that the addition of more guns into a random, hostile situation somehow keeps down the chances of casualties is, well if any of the Brain Trust had said it, stupid...but I've more respect for you, so I'll just say illogical. The image I have is of a crowded, auditorium like classroom...take the Lyceum...gunman walks in...200 people start scrambling over one another, knocking each other down for the exit with a complete self-survival/disregard for other's instinct. Now you want to add what...2,3,5 people with concealed weapons attempting to return fire at what I'll assume(hope) is their first human target, a circumstance no one know's exactly how they'll react in when first presented...save perhaps for the gunman who knew premeditatedly he'd be popping off some rounds at people and has already displayed his disregard for human life, and add trying to return fire amongst the pandemonium of fleeing people...and this somehow will create a safer situation?

  35. Listen, everybody: Here's the problem - health care is expensive. Here's some of the problem's cause - we are a country that has fat poor people, fat middle class people, and fat rich people. In other countries, poor people are skinny and starving. Here, they are on all sorts of programs that give them and their kids pretty much free food from dusk 'til dawn. Here's another chunk of the problem - Unlike other reprobate societies, America has many different cultures. And, each has its own set of health issues. This isn't f'ing Mexico where 99.36% of the people are Mexican or f'ing Sweden where 99.93% of the people are Swedish. We have real f'ing diversity here, and that encompasses many diseases and propensity toward diseases that our many different and unique f'ing cultures have. We are America! And, we already get free health care by going to the emergency room and sitting on our butts for several hours waiting in line. The fantasy of the Obama Health-bangers is that everyone will be able to get the same level of health care I can choose because I've made better choices in my life and can afford better coverage. Well, it doesn't work that way. Plus, doctors expect to be paid a certain amount. To me, in order to solve the problem, everyone needs to be more friendly and charge less money - that means friendliness from doctors, insurers, and drug companies, and all of the same agreeing to take less money. I had five stitches to close a wound on my left leg three years ago. Bill? $736.57. Really? Just to put five stitches in? It was kind of stupid. I was in the crisp, clean, specialty ER place in Frisco for a total of about 25 minutes. The prices of little things like that are ridiculously high. We took our boy to the doctor once because he had a cough. The doctor saw us for about five minutes, and wrote a prescription. Bill? $120.00 Now, we have health insurance. But, what difference does it make? The insurer pays part of it, then we pay the rest. But, either way, it's too much. The answer is not governmental, it's societal. From within, all humans involved in health care are going to have to voluntarily be more friendly and take less for simple, common health problems and procedures. Oh...and, there has to be a state and federal tort reform that scales back the liability of doctors. Another parasite on this whole flower we call The American Health Care system that goes along with Greed and Profiteering is Plaintiffs Attorneys. They are helping the matter -17%. They suck just as bad as a $736.57 bill for a mere five stitches or a $120 bill for five minutes of a Doctor-god's time with your child. Butterballs!

They wouldn't want democracy if they had not seen it was possible in Iraq. So, even though you say this is nothing like Iraq, this (and all the other middle east uprisings) would not have happened wothout the democracy in Iraq, which obviously wouldn't have happen without US intervention. Whether or not this is a good thing or a bad thing, time will tell.

The only problem I have with Lybia is that we probably waited too late to make an impact and we are not targeting the guy that we say is the problem. I understand the sensitivity of the issue, but if you don't have the balls to go after the main criminal (which he is), don't go in at all. I would be interested to know what you think we should do on Syria now, since they are also slaughtering their own civilians. The situation is fairly comparable, minus one thing. Oil. 46. Here's Kenpom's odds for the rest of the tournament (to read he says OSU has 75% to make it to elite 8, 62% final four, etc)... Here’s your up-to-the-minute log5 table for the remaining 16 teams. Some pertinent notes… - All participants have improved their chances of winning except for San Diego State and Kentucky, who get hurt by a combination of a lack of upsets in their region and a close call in one of their previous tournament games. - Congratulations to VCU, whose Sweet 16 appearance was given a 1.2% chance of occurring and now reigns as the most improbable tournament event this season. - Bo Ryan should send a bouquet to Brad Stevens, and likewise, Bill Self should send bouquets to many people. There are no guarantees that either wins his next game of course, but for each the path to Houston is a lot easier than could have been anticipated a week ago. The numbers in the table represent the chance in percent of a team advancing to the round in question. San Diego State deserves a dash of home court for playing a couple hours away from campus this week, but that is not included here as it was not included in the pre-tourney calculations.
