These morons don't understand that they can make some good, extra cash on the weekends that they should, but won't, report to the IRS. It's not like the IRS is going to come knock on their door and say: "Hey, I know you parked six cars per game at $20 per car for six games. But, you didn't file that $720 on your last return, you heinous, chickenfart of a tax-dodger!" These numbnuts could be piking in some extra cash just for being nice to people who are spending money in their city and helping their tax base. But, instead, they are choosing to be General Custard's dead anus about the whole situation. It's stupid and unnecessary. I've never seen anything like it. You go to a game at OU, TCU, the Cotton Bowl, etc., and people are in their yards begging you to park there. Monkeys play with their own dingdongs. That's all this is: Like watching monkeys at the zoo playing with their own dingdongs just because they can. Well, so what, monkeys of Denia? Everybody who isn't female can play with their own dingdongs, too. That doesn't mean you have to do it front of everyone publicly. Put it back in your pants and let people drive and park in your neighborhood six weekends a year.3 points

This is very true... in my opinion. A few of points i'd like to add. 1. The UNT football team isn't full of a bunch of stiffs. This was proven last year when Canales took over. Add in the fact that Mac knows what he is doing, and you'll be more than alright. He has a track record of getting the absolute most out of his players, not due in the least to the fact that his players tend to LOVE the guy. Your comment about being "outcoached" rather than "outplayed" holds merit. The marked improvement shown with the same players under a different coach last year backs this up. 2. Mac is an excellent recruiter. You may not win many battles against the "big boys" right away (or even ever, depending on who you put in the big boy category). That said, your competition in the SBC isn't beating the big boys for recruits either. The thing that separates you from them is the fact that Mac has a proven track record of getting recruits when up against stiff competition. Is he gonna get guys Texas wants? No... But he DID beat teams like Iowa, Illinios, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech for players while at Iowa State. The divide in "prestige" between Iowa State and all of those programs was much greater than anything UNT is going to face in the SBC. There is no doubt in my mind that you guys are going to out recruit everybody else in conference by a WIDE margin. Who in the Belt will even be close? Couple that with a coach who knows what's going on, a well motivated team, and you have a recipie for success. I understand everybodies "show me the improvement before I get all gaga" feelings... i had those same thoughts when he came to I-State. You guys have a winner... trust me. Mac wouldn't even be at UNT if he didn't KNOW he could win there. He'll get it done.3 points

I would expect this number to skyrocket when your new health care premiums roll in and your only option is a government run program. Quick sidebar on government run entities: Social Security: failure Postal Service: failure Amtrak: failure My companies premiums increased 55% over last year.3 points

Don't you think we should let the guy coach at least 1 SBC game, or even OOC game, before we annoint him the best in the belt? Yes, he has been the head guy at a big 6 school, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he will automatically suceed at UNT. One would think that would be the case, but we just don't know. To ramk him above Cristobal or Blakeney is laughable at this point in time. You didn't say the coach with the most impressive resume, you said the best coach in the belt. Way, way too soon.2 points

Click on the link to watch a video of the Mean green's very own Raquel Cuffie sing the National Anthem on Senior day before the Women's Basketball Game. Not only is this young lady a great member of the UNT Women's team, she has some quality pipes as well. And, she made a darn good ref during the GMG.Com BB Game this last Saturday as well...much better on the eyes than those other two refs we had! Way to go Raquel! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTt44CdXVs4 GO MEAN GREEN...cannot wait to see who is selected to be the next HC of the UNT Women's BB team. It will be great to have this settled and have the ladies "back" with a vengeance on the court next season. Let the winning begin! Enjoy the video...excellent stuff!2 points

So funny to see those that are in complete support of the Iraq and Afganistan war to be against the Lybian action. Even more funny to see those that were so against the "Bush oil war" in Iraq be in complete support of Pres. Obama's unilateral, non-congressionally approved action in Lybia. If Bush had done the same thing, these same folks would be going ballistic with the fascist rhetoric. As long as it is "my side" doing it, I'll defend it, critical thinking be damned!! Quite amusing.2 points

Agreed. Comments like "it's refreshing having at staff that knows what their doing", "we finally look like a Division 1 football team", and "UNT is finally one of the big boys" seem a little premature. We haven't done anything yet, maybe we should slow down a bit. Heck just a few months ago people were pissed off by the hire.2 points

Thank you. What did people expect? His first practice to include a slow pace, no emotion, bored players, etc? We've had 4 years of spring football where things looked like they were turning around. I'll believe in it when I see the results.2 points

It's been open about a month and it's awesome. Went to the one on Grapevine's Main Street when I was in high school and absolutely pumped that they opened one in Denton. By far the best sandwich shop in Denton! It's on East Hickory Street right across from the Denton Record Chronicle. Weinberger's website1 point

A lot should become clear to the coaching staff once the final whistle for Spring practice has been blown. Then the coaches will sit down and really understand what they have so they can plan for the upcoming season.1 point

This has been a great tournament so far! Great to see both VCU and Butler in the semi-finals. As a child growing up in Norfolk, I remember VCU was then known as Richmond Professional Institute. While they must have played basketball, I do not remember them making any sort of noise at all. Their campus has pretty much taken over downtown Richmond and I see they have have an enrollment of 32K. Hardly a "little" school. U of Richmond has quite a bit to be proud of as well. They have high academic standards and a whole lot of money! Finally, I'm glad to see the Butler coach refuses to acknowledge this "mid-major" nonsense. I wish more schools, including our own, did the same.1 point

i think we need to temper our expectations this season. we have a hard schedule, and could easily be 0&5 at end of week 5. i think we will be a better team, but may not have a better record for a few years. our o-line and d-lines are just too small. give us a chance to recruit and you will see the turn-around we all expect.1 point

I wouldn't want to waste our time playing inferior competition. Besides, you guys apparently would bring less than 1000 fans to the game, and that's if we play at your place. Man, Tony Mitchell must really be burning your a$$ for us to continue to be graced with your presence.1 point

Hey everybody, I just wanted to thank everybody that helped make the event a great success, Especially Kram. In my time on the cheer team this is the first time anyone has done anything like this and it was amazing and fun. Though I am graduating soon, I will definitely be back next year. Thanks Kram, Thanks MG Nation, thanks GMG.com1 point

The United States should have never gotten involved in this Libyian civil war. The surrounding arab countries will not get directly involved because they know the dangers of sectarian violence overflowing from this civil war into their own country between competing rivals. As always the case with this so called modern day pan-arabism, they would rather have some other western nation spill their blood for their freedom than their own. It is too easy for the arabs to state, before the press, the keywords of democracy, our innocent women and children are being slaughtered, and have the liberal western press photograph these scenes. I do not remember how many times I saw Vietnamese Monks setting themselves on fire before the press, starving Ethiopians, "crimes against humanity" in the old Yugoslavia of serbs v. croats, and the list goes on all wanting democracy....or so they say to get someone to fight and die for them. Arabs wanting democracy is like filling my gas tank full of water and expecting it to run. In the case of Libyia, the United States does not know who the rebels really are, what their beliefs are, or the "political" make up of their rag tag band of merry men. Gadaffi, like Sadam Hussain (sp) was able to keep the sectarian violence under control by sectarian violence and both were a counter balance to other regional conflicts. I really did not care when Iraq, Turkey, Iran were killing the Kurds even though these images were paraded before us. I really do not care about all the other sectarian violence that Arab countries are involved in because.....one, it has never stopped in hundreds of years and nobody can convince me that someone has a better idea how to make everyone get along. So, let the arabs fight and die in their own internal civil wars and they will always find a way to be a strategic counterbalance in their own region. The United States and Europe should just stay out of these civil wars because western blood is too valuable to be spent on the unappreciative sands of desert despots. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/international/mideast_rocked_by_new_clashes_oo4ACPi3EUoaEdr7ZhdrAL1 point

History shows that the highlighted is never a good argument in support of a war, especially when you expect them to take a major role in the front line fighting on your side. The only problem I have with Lybia is that we probably waited too late to make an impact and we are not targeting the guy that we say is the problem. I understand the sensitivity of the issue, but if you don't have the balls to go after the main criminal (which he is), don't go in at all. I would be interested to know what you think we should do on Syria now, since they are also slaughtering their own civilians. The situation is fairly comparable, minus one thing. Oil. Have you suddenly become George Bush?1 point

Okay then, Phase 2: Sun Belt basketball games are broadcast regularly on CSS. This is a regional cable provider, one that is not available here in Dallas no matter how much I'd be willing to pay for it. These games are available on cable, just like the cable I'm paying for here in Dallas. But because of regional distribution, I can't access it. Almost without exception, there aren't even any options to go see these games at a sports bar or restaurant, no matter how thorough their premium channel package may be. If I lived in Alabama or Louisiana (I think), I would be watching this for no additional charge in the comfort of my own home. If it were an option, I'd go to Pluckers or Fox & Hound and watch them there. Roughly 25-30% of these CSS games end up available on ESPN3.com through contractual arrangement. When that happens, I can watch a web stream of the same broadcast, MINUS commercials, and there is no question that this is just fine. I can access these broadcasts because of the cable/internet provider I already pay for. Not criminal, not morally wrong. But for the other 70-75% that I have no way to access; if I watch them through Channelsurfing WITH the commercials intact... Is that criminal? Morally wrong? Why?1 point
-
One question, limited scope, stick to the parameters: In the past year, I've used Channelsurfing (or other sites like Justin.TV, I think) to watch Formula 1 races live while traveling. I get cable, I pay for it monthly, when at home I watch the races on a channel that I pay for. When out of town, either in a hotel for work or visiting family in an area that doesn't get Speed on their available cable package, I watch a choppy and inconsistent web stream that's roughly 1/3rd or 1/4th the size of a postcard. So, I'm watching a stream of something I would otherwise be watching legally over-the-air. The only reason I'm not seeing what I've already paid for is because of a market failure (inefficient distribution of their signal) and I'm watching a very, very inferior substitute. And while I do this, I'm still seeing all the advertisements that I'd be seeing if I were sitting in front of my television instead. Criminal? Morally wrong? Why?1 point

We will have to wait way past September to see how things pan out. I wouldn't expect immediate gratification here. It will be a long road to turning this program around.1 point

Agree. I'm sick of all this "new era" talk. Lets just wait until September and then see how things pan out. How many "new eras" are we going to have?? The Dickey era, Dodge era, Mac era.......I want a freaking "era" that is called "The Winning Era".1 point

Countless others have, but we have not. The experience at the head coach position alone is unheralded, let alone throughout the rest of the staff. D-1 experience in the SEC, the Big East and the Big XII, and that's just the HC. I don't remember hearing but a small minority that were not pleased with this hire. Count me as one of the excited bunch, with sky high expectations, like playing close to .500, which is absolutely possible, or even finishing with a winning record. Crazy talk I know. We didn't get "out played" the last few yrs as much as we got "out coached", consistently. With that said, we are not one of the Big Boys, only in coaching salary's are we relatively close, and even then not so much. We still don't look like a D-1 school, with as much admitted by Coach Dan several times, and those types of candid and honest assesments leads me to believe we might actually have a head coach that knows what he's doing. That and the fact that every hire save one has D-1 coaching experience, including both coordinators and almost every position coach, and were being wooed by other D-1 schools, leads me to believe the entire staff as well might know what they're doing. Still not a Bog Boy, still don't look like a D-1 school, but that doesn't mean we can't compete and win in the belt, and/or play .500 football, finish with a winnning record and/or go bowling.1 point
-
I have to say that I agree with you. Countless schools have hired experienced, winning head coaches and not been successful. Don't get me wrong, I really want UNT to get to a higher level. I'm just not going to shoot my expectations up sky high before we've even played a game.1 point

This guy just makes you believe again...believe "Why Not UNT"? Why not, indeed. Spring practice has started on a positive note and spirits seem to be high with the players and the fans. At the Mean Green happy Hour event last Tuesday, Coach Mac compared UNT to Boise State, and commented that he thought UNT was in a better position right now to make that sort of progress than was Boise when it started its run to success. Why not? Why the heck not UNT? I believe and I believe the Mean Green has started on its march back to wins and bowls games! Yes, I know...Green Kool-Aid drinking going on here, but you just can't be around the program these days and feel the change that has already been made and the positive attitude of everyone involved. The Green Kool-Aid is tasting a lot sweeter these days, and I think there is very good reason for that sweet taste. GO MEAN GREEN! Change is here...this change is very positive and the future is BRIGHT GREEN!1 point

I would love for us to start letting other countries solve their problems themselves. My biggest concern is that we have absolutely no clue what Libya is going to look like once we help the rebels overthrow Qaddafi. Whoever takes over may be much better than Qaddafi, but it could also be much, much worse.1 point

I like to think we have a president who can accomplish all of these things. I mean, my bracket took all of 10 minutes (but I mostly picked based on which mascots I thought were cutest) and a round of golf takes me about 5 hours (and about 140 strokes) so that leaves a whole hell of a lot of time to work on the rest of the country and world.1 point
