  1. Jeez, what I thought was an interesting subject is interpretated as worrying about NT basketball and certainly not worthy of discussion. I would imagine most fans like to check out the local competition. If you think TCU won't improve dramatically in the BE, SMU isn't improving, and UTA doesn't give NT fits already, than I guess the subject is of little interest to you; but keep worrying about who supports the program. I hope having season bb tickets for over 20 years gives me your permission to discuss NT basketball. If it does not, let me know.

  2. Just got my Mean Green Club sticker for my car. It along my Univ. of North Texas License plates makes everyone know I am a Mean Green Fan. I recommend everyone that can to send in to join the Mean Green Club. I am looking forward to this season, because I feel we will turn it around and make a bowl game with a 7-5 win season. 3. Interesting to me what is happening now that the legislation is actually seeing the light of day. Read on: Matthews: As ObamaCare Turns One, More Americans Than Ever Oppose It DALLAS, TX: This week, White House allies and other left-leaning coalitions will plan a week of events nationwide to mark the first anniversary of ObamaCare, but Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI) resident scholar Dr. Merrill Matthews says it’s the best indicator yet that Democrats have lost the health care battle. "The Obama administration must have sent out an SOS (support our stupidity) memo, and, right on cue, the minions came out defending the health care reform legislation," said Matthews. "No one believes the left would be holding a national pep rally if ObamaCare was even a little popular." A new Rasmussen poll recently found 62 percent of Americans want ObamaCare repealed—the highest percentage since May, yet the public is repeatedly being bombarded with misleading defenses by the talking heads who support it. "The president claimed that his health care law would be a milestone, ultimately raising the Democrats’ stature. Instead, it’s become a millstone, sinking their hopes for years to come," said Matthews. "And the more Democrats try to defend their law, the more indefensible it appears." For example, the Department of Health and Human Services has granted more than a thousand temporary waivers to organizations—including unions that supported the bill—claiming that moving quickly to the law’s new, onerous guidelines would be devastating. The state of Maine has also requested a waiver and more states may follow. Matthews suggests the press investigate those supporters at the rallies to see how many of them belong to a group that got a pass on complying with the law. The legislation has become one of the most contentious in recent memory, with some 30 states challenging ObamaCare’s constitutionality in court and many passing provisions asserting that the federal government can’t force their citizens to buy health insurance or pay a fine. "The legislation backfired and now its supporters think they have to fire back," concluded Matthews. "ObamaCare has become a national pariah, and the Democrats know they have to do something. They are reading the polls much more closely than they ever read the legislation." The Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI) is an independent, nonprofit public policy organization based in Dallas, Texas. IPI resident scholar and health care expert Dr. Merrill Matthews is available for interview by contacting Erin Humiston at (972) 874-5139, or erin@ipi.org.

  5. Terrell and his father were out at practice today. They were VERY enthusiastic about things and followed the D-Line everywhere they went. We don't have many or any players who look like Terrell in a uniform. Also in attendance today were Grant Shaw from Forney, Travis Ellard from Deer Park, Cooper Jones from Lone Oak, Zach Whitfield from Sherman. There was an O-lineman from Corsicana and a massive one from Trinity Valley CC via McKinney Boyd watching practice.

  7. Did we have permission of congress when we invaded Granada, Panama, or bombed Libya under Reagan.... Nope. We have not only declared war (by congress) only 5 times in US history... we have had over 200 "warlike" incidents, most done by the White House only... includes a lot--including a lot of Viet Nam escallations, the Gulf War, and Korea. There was no declaration fo war in the Gulf War or Iraq invasion (which was not provoked at all... and no mass killing of local citizens was taking place as has been taking place in Libya. You are just trying to find fault and not looking at history. Guess you aren't listening to those networks... several on there have criticized him and even these actions, just as they did the previous person.... Some Democrats even oppose this ---as did Bob Dole who opposed Bush Sr. when he began the Gulf War in 1990 (he later agreed that he had been wrong to do so). I thought the Iraq INVASION was bad mistake then but I approve of this which is not an invasion either (not that anywone cares about my oppinion) ....as long as we keep ground troops home. Let the locals fight it out and decide the situation.. A no-fly zone keep evens the situation a bit and doesn't allow a few to conquer the many. ..

  8. Ok, got rid of dups between the lists... I didn't include this because it would make the list waaay too wide, but all but like 4 or 5 are interested in multiple aq schools(for whatever that means). Scout shows 45 and rivals shows 50. The combined list has 85 showing interest, so there weren't as many dups as I thought there would be. I took Andrew McNulty off the scout list...apparently Scout doesn't know that he is a 2011 recruit for U of NT. Anyways, this should paste into a spreadsheet fairly easily if you are interested in analyzing... or maybe you just aren't as geeky as me. 11. Okay then, Phase 2: Sun Belt basketball games are broadcast regularly on CSS. This is a regional cable provider, one that is not available here in Dallas no matter how much I'd be willing to pay for it. These games are available on cable, just like the cable I'm paying for here in Dallas. But because of regional distribution, I can't access it. Almost without exception, there aren't even any options to go see these games at a sports bar or restaurant, no matter how thorough their premium channel package may be. If I lived in Alabama or Louisiana (I think), I would be watching this for no additional charge in the comfort of my own home. If it were an option, I'd go to Pluckers or Fox & Hound and watch them there. Roughly 25-30% of these CSS games end up available on ESPN3.com through contractual arrangement. When that happens, I can watch a web stream of the same broadcast, MINUS commercials, and there is no question that this is just fine. I can access these broadcasts because of the cable/internet provider I already pay for. Not criminal, not morally wrong. But for the other 70-75% that I have no way to access; if I watch them through Channelsurfing WITH the commercials intact... Is that criminal? Morally wrong? Why?

  12. Glad your excited, but the complaints were a little overboard. The residents of Denia didn't want to work with NT, they wanted to mandate what NT did/does with its land. This issue could have been resolved long ago if the city had any foresight and expanded Bonnie Brae either prior to or in conjunction with the building of the stadium. But, Denton being Denton, they will not start this work until some time in the future making access an even bigger mess in the future just like Loop 288,the work on W. University during the Razor Ranch construction and years ago when TI built what is now Discovery Park. Then again, Denton still has residents that will do anything to thwart growth and argue for the sake of arguing.

  13. One question, limited scope, stick to the parameters: In the past year, I've used Channelsurfing (or other sites like Justin.TV, I think) to watch Formula 1 races live while traveling. I get cable, I pay for it monthly, when at home I watch the races on a channel that I pay for. When out of town, either in a hotel for work or visiting family in an area that doesn't get Speed on their available cable package, I watch a choppy and inconsistent web stream that's roughly 1/3rd or 1/4th the size of a postcard. So, I'm watching a stream of something I would otherwise be watching legally over-the-air. The only reason I'm not seeing what I've already paid for is because of a market failure (inefficient distribution of their signal) and I'm watching a very, very inferior substitute. And while I do this, I'm still seeing all the advertisements that I'd be seeing if I were sitting in front of my television instead. Criminal? Morally wrong? Why?

  20. I would like to hear, now that Pres. Obama, has his very own war...can't blame Bush for this one...just what the heck the objectives are and how the heck anyone thinks you can win this thing without boots on the ground? Is this going to be the first armed conflict won by air power alone? I seriously doubt it. That "exit strategy" that our president kept asking for in his run to the presidency is certainly lacking here as well. Not knocking Obama here as much as pointing out the difference between running for president and talking about decisions you know very little about and actually having to make those decisions and live with the consequences. So, what's the exit strategy and what's the goal? We seem to be hearing different things daily from the oval office...our goal is to remove the current leadership of Libya to well, it may not be possible to remove the current leadership. Is this going to be another seemingly never-ending stalemate in the dessert? Don't know...too early to tell, but it has all the ear makes of another long drawn out conflict where mainly the civilian population suffers. Was it the right thing to do? Perhaps, but in my opinion the US and its allies waited way to long to act and lost the initiative. How can the US support a three front war successfully? Obama is the first president to try to handle a three-front war since maybe the Romans. I am just scatter-shooting here with some random thoughts on this situation. The US does seem to be trying to hand this over to NATO, but that would only place the US forces (who will still probably shoulder the burden of this front) under the command of potentially some other nation's commanding general, etc. Result for the American forces and US tax payer would be the same...as it has been in most NATO led actions. Too early....too many questions, but a concern for the US, its Allies and the people of Libya none the less.

Look Mark, I'm not being critical of Coach McCarney, I'm just presenting a realistic speculation as to the "Beaches" thing in the interview. I don't need to admire him as a husband, just as a coach. And if the athletic department can head off any unnecessary distractions by presenting him as a guy who is sensitive and devoted to his wife, then fine with me. Just don't expect me to swallow it whole like some gullible, fawning, fan.

  34. My problem with Libya, and Obama in general, is that he goes about his business without the knowledge or approval of Congress. He skirts the law as best he can and then "escapes" to another country, in this case Chile, to avoid the immediate backlash. Then again, the liberal media, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, etc... will never call him on any of this. Some of you may not have like Bush or how he went about his business, but the man did what he thought was in the best interest of the United States, not the world, and was upfront and communicated to Congress what his actions would be. In fact, in the case of invading Iraq, the Democratic led Congress approved of this move. Obama has no foreign policy and no leadership skills.

  37. Like most people reading this board I'm super-excited about the new stadium, but I understand the Denia complaints. It's a very nice neighborhood with residents that feel that UNT could do better in terms of access to the stadium. Let's be honest, UNT is taking a short-sighted approach to access (ie. saving money). Bonnie Brae is WAY too narrow and not designed for the potential traffic the new stadium will attract. Bonnie Brae should be under construction now, not sometime in the future. WillowWood is a very weak alternative(but cheap). The residents of Denia have forced UNT to spend more money (500,000 out of 90 million) and supply slightly better access. I think it's a good thing.
