  5. Fun with the CIT: Today, the DMN said SMU pays $31,500 a game to host and then keeps the gate and concessions. SMU listed an official attendance of 1,090 for the first game. Tickets sell for $10 or $25 a piece. If they somehow sell an equal number of each, they still lose $12K. This is actually not as bad as I expected, but I expect the ticket mix would skew more towards the cheap seats, so let's say they lose closer to $15K a game. (Feel free to add in the $1-2K concessions estimate on your own time.) If the exposure was there, this might be worth it. However, the only reason I even remembered any of this is because someone texted me a joke about the cost per game. I think it's fair to assume the tournament's biggest fans at this point are me and Matt Doherty. I can find enough first weekend tournament games to whip my ass and make me hate basketball and most average fans feel the same way.

  16. That isn't entirely accurate. If someone swoops in and loads JJ into a wheelbarrow full of money JJ has to leave some of that money here. That is his part of the contract, he has a buyout too and the University gets money when the coach leaves.

  17. houston, have you ever had to look someone in the eye tell them they are fired? Sure, she will still get some $$ out of UNT, but her family will be uprooted. She gave ample evidence that she needed to be fired, but I would like to think the RV took his time and carefully made the decision before delivering the news. What should RV have said, 'this is the easiest decision I've ever made, and I told her not to let the door hit her on the way out'? I have taken my share of pot shots at Stephens and even I wouldn't have said anything remarkably different to the public if it were my job to hold the presser. I hoped she would work out and follow the Johns fine examples. Instead she became a running joke that needed to go. That doesn’t mean RV shouldn’t be respectful about the decision in public.

A winner is a person who gets a brand new softball facility built, locker rooms remodeled in the pit, dedicated court for volleyball, academic center for athletes, oh wait, A BRAND SPANKING NEW FOOTBALL STADIUM. I have never thought that R.V was an "idiot". If you think that Dr. B. did not have her hands on this sweet deal that Shanice got, you are crazy.

  24. I find it funny how we're ripping another schools poster for posting on our site when we have a whole boatload of people here who do the same exact thing. Also, i find it ironic how we hate it when people call us NTSU, but then we turn around and do the same thing to other schools...

  25. Then how come the week of the interviews for the job....the Vito blog reported that RV and the committee were "wowed" by Stephens. Stephens interviewed on a Tuesday....and the word got out in Vito's blog that the committee was blown away ("wowed was the exact word he used). I told someone when I heard that....that the search was over. This was three days before Capps interviewed. Revisionist history is a great thing.....especially when the one being blamed (Bataille) is no longer here to defend herself.

  28. Not unless 1 or 2 on the current roster or recruiting class don't make it. Backcourt (1-2-3 spots) next year: Alzee Williams Trey Norris Chris Jones Brandon Walton Jordan Williams (reluctantly) Jacob Holman 1 sophomore returning from injury, 3 freshmen, one JUCO and one who should probably be seeing no more than 5 minutes a night at the 3. We still need a guard...6 guards, 1 swing forward, 6 players for the 4 or 5.

  35. Stephens finished with a 25-67 record with the Mean Green, which lost the last 11 games of her tenure. The former Oklahoma State guard had two years left on her original five-year contract that includes a provision that will allow UNT to buy out the remainder of her deal for $206,250. UNT will begin a search for a new coach immediately. "This has been a difficult decision, but unfortunately the program has not shown the progress we expected at this point in the process," UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said a 25-67 reccord and this is a "difficult decision"....really...and now we buy her out for $206,250....how stupid is it we get in contracts with loosers and then pay them to go away....we must have more money than I realize...sometimes i think RV is an idiot....this is T dodge all over again.

  41. http://www.newstimes.com/default/article/UW-officials-see-benefits-in-TCU-s-departure-843316.php Do MWC officials know we have more alums in the DFW metroplex than either University of Texas (Austin) or Texas A & M University? Doesn't that translate to more televisions in NT Exes homes which can translate into ratings? Isn't it ratings is what the TV networks want rather than what a school did 75 years ago? What kind of coffee would that and a buck buy you in today's NCAA? Will the MWC stay at 9 members or expand their footprint to 12 schools (and a larger TV coverage footprint) as to protect itself from any other defections while expanding their conference with the 5'th largest TV market, ie, the North Texas Metroplex and..............the one school that can deliver the best TV ratings because of UNT's "lights out," humongous (and still growing) constituency? On behalf of Prez' Rawlins and AD Villarreal, should UNT turn Chuck Neinas loose on this re-alignment project, too, with him camping on the office doorsteps of MWC Commish' Craig Thompson? GMG! UNT versus SMU (1) North Texas just brings far more to the table with a larger fan base, (2) UNT with an enrollment that all but quadruples SMU's (3) Approx. twice as many UNT students now living on/near campus than SMU and TCU's combined enrollments. (4) With close to 100,000 NT Exes in the DFW Metroplex, we dwarf SMU's alumnus numbers (5) Our football stadium and basketball facility combo vs. SMU's ? Let MWC officials visit both schools and decide for themselves--Anyone want to place some bets on who they'd pick as the school with the better facilities? (6) Easy major airport access from either DFW Airport (25 minutes from Denton) or even Alliance Airport (15 minutes from Denton City Limits sign) ! (7) Big Mac "D" Attack On The Way At The New Mean Green Stadium with Chico the Man Wide Open Offense, Too! GMG ! !

  42. I could see us playing Iowa State on a regular basis thanks to Coach Mac. Don't easily discount some of the soft-place-in-the-heart connections in college football, like UNT and Kansas State. Yeah we did a Home and Home with them but if it weren't for UNT being the only team that Bill Snyder beat when he took over at K-State in '89, they probably wouldn't have agreed to the deal. K-State beating UNT was their turnaround, and they didn't forget that. They gave us a huge "Thank You, we remember you" by being our last opponent at Fouts and sending it out to pasture with a hell of a game. (We also have Chico to thank for that, but that is for a different thread).

  43. SUMG gave you the best idea yet. I go to the Main Street every year. Roseanne Cash on Saturday night. Bring your folding chairs and get as close to the stage as you want. The best quality art of all the festivals in this area is on display. Continuous entertainment on multiple stages all day. If she is the indoors variety woman, take her to Billy Bob's after some great Tex-Mex at Joe T. Garcia's. Put a couple margaritas in her and you might get lucky. Seriously, the above event is where I will be headed right after the spring game. Always a helluva good time. Now, in all fairness, these things are usually more like scrimmages than a game (although we don't know yet how Coach Mac will do it).

  44. As for the 4-5 positions, we have Knox. Edwards and Robinson, a frosh who is a face-the-bucket guy not a back-to-the-bucket guy and we may have Mitchell - or maybe not. Hogans is the only proven commodity and he is hardly a big. So we have only one guy who we know can play and he is only 6-7, two who have yet to prove they can handle extended minutes, a freshman, and an academic question. Am I missing someone? Maybe I am. If not, we need bigs. You never have too many bigs.

  46. With all due respect, I think it is pretty obvious what his intentions were. Yes, they have a good schedule, but I fail to see any reason to go and post it on someone elses board unless for the purpose of subtle gloating. I think you are being a little too quick to differentiate between UTSA and TSUSM. The only difference is that the TSUSM fans are a tad more realistic and more intelligent than UTSA fans, plus, at least TSU has played football before.

  50. Now that we've got the 2011 schedule squared away, isn't it time to start the process of 2012 Schedule Theories? I see on some "future schedule" website that we have only two out of conference games scheduled so far for 2012, so we need a couple of home games to go with them: Sept. 1: @ LSU Sept. 15: @ Kansas State I don't think I'm pulling a rabbit out of the hat when I say those will be tough games. Although, I fully expect former Big 12 coach Dan McCarney to be ready to face Kansas State again in a very exacting manner...although, he was only 2-10 against the Wildcats during that tenure. It's fair to say that Kansas State was at their football zenith at the same time McCarney was lifting the Iowa State program from its perpetual gridiron ash heap. But, anyway, on with the grousing and guessing... My suggestion is that we consider schools who also don't have a full slate of out of conference games listed for 2012. See how that works? They don't have enough. We don't have enough. Let's get together and have enough of each other on the field of football battle? See? So, here are those teams who also appear to need 2012 games and whatnot. And, particularly, I list school which appear to have their fill of 2012 out of conference home games, but seems to be lacking in road games. I've not included Big 12 schools who already have contracts at Jerry World, because you can't sell the 'DFW/Texas' exposure angle to them: Tulsa Texas State Fresno State Washington State UTEP UNLV Utah TCU Virginia North Carolina Mississippi State Southern Miss Nebraska Missouri Kentucky Oregon State Memphis Colorado California Kansas Arizona State Boise State Iowa State Central Michigan Baylor Akron I'd really try to sell continued exposure in Texas to Colorado and Nebraska. Yeah, it's a lot less of a reality with Nebraska because they're nationwide anyway. But, they won't have their feet on the ground in Texas at all anymore unless they are the Big Ten rep in the Alamo Bowl. Sell it to Nebraska as a homecoming game for Rex Burkhead...and Anthony "Cedar Hill" Blue, Nick "Keller" Ash, Jesse "Guyer" Coffey, Jason "Lake Highlands" Dann, Ciante "Arlington Seguin" Evans, Seth "Southlake" Jameson, Murat "Plano" Kuzu, Courtney and Steven "South Garland" Osborne, Kody "Stephenville" Spano, Jamal "Arlington Sam Houston" Turner, Donovan "Arlington Bowie" Vestal, and Josh "Ryan" Williams. I'd also like to see the programs who we "aspire" to be in here, little guys who have built it: Fresno, Boise, and/or Utah. The "off-brands" of the BCS conferences I think are occasionally ripe as well. Look, Michigan State went to FAU. Kansas State was here last year. I don't think it's harebrained to put in a call the ADs at Kentucky, Iowa State, Mississippi State, North Carolina and the like.
