  1. UNT beat TCU 1-0 in front of a really large crowd at Pizza Hut Park. Lots of youth teams walked over from their respective fields to watch the match. Both schools heavily recruit the metroplex, so it's a nice spring "bragging rights" victory. In the first half UNT had a 20 mph wind at their back and scored early (about 5 min into the game), when Kelsey Perlman knocked in a loose ball in front of the net. UNT controlled play in the wind aided first half. In the second half, play was much more balanced with TCU having more shots on goal (majority of them from 30 yards out) and a few more corner kicks. Our defense played really well and goal keeper Haley Newsom made a couple nice saves to preserve win. Overall the girls looked in great form and continue to play well in the spring.

  3. I mean this in the most respectful way possible; You already received everything you were owed from this team, players and staff for your sacrifices in time, energy, and money. The team overpaid us fans that were fortunate enough to have made the trip to hot springs. We fans are owed nothing from players at this point, no matter how small you might think it is. The staff on this team have been nothing but appreciative and respectful of us fans and these players poured their guts onto the floor of the Summit. UNT owes it's players, which should be the only reason we would play in any post season tournament this year. What the staff owes UNT and it's fans is to look at what the program has now and what it needs to get to where we want to be year in and year out: The NCAA Tournament. No one is saying that we think we are superior to those schools, we are saying it's not a good idea to pay to play those teams when coming so close to making it to where the players had their hearts and minds set. It's not slight against the schools who can gain something from playing in the post season tournament. Right now, we don't gain anything, if the players don't really want to be there.

  4. Both you and Green Dylan are operating on wild speculation. Then, you make an argument against the athletic dept. based on an assumption for which you have no factual basis. Until you know for sure that the reason we aren't playing in the CBI or CIT is financial, I would not worry your pretty little head over it.

  5. I thought it was comic gold. Discounting the accomplishments of DD's teams to prop up the mess that has followed is standard operating procedure on this board. Lob a grenade Tina Slinker's way and this thread is a lock for HOF.

  7. If I read things correctly: >=$10K/yr donors (with $100K stadium campaign donation) park in a new lot not pictured here, but that will be behind the press box side stands >=$1K/yr doners (with club seats) park in the lot marked 83 above >=$250/yr doners park in the lot labeled 81 above That's my interpretation anyway.

  14. The only way Mitchell does not stay with this team before his eligibility is up will be because of academics! (or some other issue) He's All-Conference material now but needs too much work in all areas to even think about the next level. He's not a first round pick (with guaranteed money)which should be the goal of any kid coming out early. He's not even a lock to even make a pro roster. D-League or Europe is highly probable at the point. Go Mean Green!

  18. GMG Guide: "Quitter" - a player who leaves North Texas before their time here is done. Not a personal attack. Just a statement of fact of a player's status for any team we care about. "Mean Green Athlete" - includes players who transferred to UNT to play for the only team that matters. I hope that clears things up a bit. Reposted for those who need it.

  19. Although his stats didn't show it, I liked what I saw from Jordan. He has a smooth jumper, and was very active on defense. He also didn't take any shots that weren't within the flow of the offense. He seems like a good team player. I'm anxious to see Chris Jones tonight. I'd be shocked if he wasn't our starting point guard come game one.

  23. If the kids didn't have their heart into it, which I suspect to be the case, and we got run our of the gym at some school that did care. Well, that would kind of sour the end of season run a bit. As a team full of seniors who just went to the NCAA's last year, I really doubt they'd get up for one of the new fangled tourneys. If we had mostly underclassmen who had never played postseason ball, they'd be more likely to be excited, and I'd be all for it. I know a similar argument could be made against the NIT, but that tournament has a long and distinguished history. The CBI is basically a 3 year old money grab (tho yes I have watched some of it all of those years). The CIT at least takes all mid majors, and not Big 6 schools with long records like the CBI has. Still tho, I'd want to make sure we really were in it to win it - before accepting.

  25. Uh, I really don't get the justification as to why we should think we are somehow "above" playing in one of these tourneys, since we just lost the SBC tourney, and could possibly play against someone like Air Force or SMU in the first round. I kind of look at it as a chance at redemption after screwing up late in the SBC regular season, and losing a very tough one against Little Rock. If someone has a legitimate reason other than a little money as to why these tourneys should be avoided, I would love to hear it. Winning a tournament of any kind would be special, since those titles really haven't been growing on trees around here in our long history of playing college basketball. Just don't get how we could turn down any opportunity at this point in time.

  26. That has to be the worst picture of Natalie Portman I've ever seen. It looks like someone reversed her body backwards from the boobs down. Also...... what the heck is going on with that left arm? She's got reverse elbow and way too much upper arm flab.

  27. Well put. This is exactly how I feel. It will be a long, long time, maybe never, before I forget about this team and the incredible tournament performance and the way it ended. I'm fine remembering that legacy, because I went to watch them play in the NCAA tourney last year. I don't need them to play another game for me to remember what an incredible group of guys we had/have on this team.

  28. If the BlackHole or Alzee were healthy I might maybe possibly be interested... but with a group pf players with nothing to gain from the pay in game I'd pass. Say the team comes out still dejected from the loss and lays a flat egg like they did for most of conference? Then how do we feel? There are no assurances we get the fired up, never say die, group that nutted up those 3.5 games in 4 nights. They really saved the face of what could have been a disasterous season. I'm fine remembering this season for that.

  29. I may actually be able to make it out for this game. I really wish they could have played inside the big stadium though...that would have been cool.

  30. I disagree. They did have something to do with the loss. Could we have made them irrelevant, yes. We didn't and they screwed us over. Our lack of a killer instinct does not absolve them of gross incompetence. Also, I will be bitter about this for a very long time and will probably use this as heckle ammunition next year when the thugs from Little Rock visit the Pit. I am a fan, as in fanatic. I can be fanatical about the teams I support. This includes grudge holding, for decades or longer sometimes. Your mileage may vary.

  36. GREAT article, and super happy to see the golf team getting some national recognition. Excellent. UNT has a tradition in golf that everyone can definitely be proud to say they are part of the Mean green Nation. UNT gold, both men's and women's, is on the rise again. back to its rightful place among the nation's elite college programs! Super, just super to see this. GO MEAN GREEN!

  40. An interesting thought. Let's discount and discredit all the hard work those teams put in to succeed in representing our school well on the football field. While we're at it, can we review the flowers you were given for participating in your 5th grade ballet recital?

  41. Coming from someone that has seen him play several times, you're absolutely out of your mind. If he entered the draft THIS year, he'd be a first round lock. Having him until his eligibility is up is a pipe dream. I'll be glad to have him for one year, but there is no way in hell he stays the entire time. He's 6'9" with a ridiculous jumpshot and phenomenal athleticism. Guys with his size and skill set are NOT easy to come by.

  42. I don't get the idea that having all members playing football makes the conference better. How would that work? If ORU would add value to SBC basketball and be reasonably competative in the other sports they field, there's no reason why we shouldn't send feelers out to them. As for UALR, don't you think talk about giving them the boot sounds a little like sour grapes coming from us right now?
    0 points
  43. I think it makes for a better, more solid conference to have all football members. Of course you can argue that lots of Big East schools don't have football, but those are a different level of basketball program than UALR. Now that all of the other non-football schools have either left or added a program, I personally think UALR should be asked to make a decision about adding football, and if they choose not to, they should be given an opportunity to search for a new conference home. That is just my opinion, and I understand there would be some issues to deal with. How long UALR has been in the conference is really a non-issue for me personally.

  44. My link Says Benson has contacted North Texas...How many times does that make?
    0 points
  45. Just a few years ago we had 5 non-football schools. WKU (moved to FBS), USA (started football), UNO (went bankrupt and dropped), Denver (moving to WAC). That leaves only UALR. I still think we need to drop UALR, but it would have to potential to be a PR nightmare if they did not already have a new home lined up. We would then be an all-sports conference sitting at 10 football and 10 basketball. That would be the optimal outcome in my opinion, but I doubt it ever happens.

  46. Huh, Chris Jones is already signed. In fact, a recent DMN column rated him the number 2 player in the area behind only Nash. It is obvious that he is at least a 3 star recruit, and right now is probably playing the best of NT's class. Rivals is not always logica or right.
    0 points
  47. I really like the secondary players we have recruited this year, and since he'd have to sit out a year, he'd have to compete against 2 years of recruiting by our new coaching staff. I think a likely scenario might be him getting some significant playing time in the second half of the first season he played, but what would make him all that different from a true freshman at corner? I admire that he took a stand for what he believes in, but he may come to personally question whether it was really a good idea to do so.

  48. If he started on OU's special teams, I'd bet he could at least do that here.
