We need to quit crying about an illegal screen or a push off. We flat out gave it away and were lucky they didnt hit the 3 to take the lead TT got the rebound he got fouled on after Shorter threw it away. It was a great push in the conference tournament to get where we were, but in the end we did just enough to give them a chance to win and they put a dagger in our hearts and absolutely crushed our hopes and dreams.3 points

I want to give all of you individual run downs later, and I will. I don't have the heart to do it right now - maybe in acouple of hours. Just know I love the magic carpet ride these years have been.2 points

The state's budget problems could be vastly improved if the legislature had the intestional fortitude to overhaul state government. Texas has 254 counties which is far more than needed. Those that minister to less than 5,000 residents, except in rare cases, should be consolidated with an adjoining county. This should reduce the number of salaried government employees in those counties and get the job done more efficiently. Next, get rid of hundreds of ISDs by having each county responsible for the students in their county. The county tax assessor can then determine what resources are necessary to run the county education system and set rates accordingly. Close the borders. I know that this is done at the federal level but keep pushing, even if it requires a lawsuit, to see that the U.S. government does its job. As long as we have the expense of educating and caring for the health and welfare of illegal immigrants we will always be burdened with far more expenses than the other states. And yes, allow casinos. Gambling is not immoral unless it is done irresponsibly. At least a gambler is not a menace behind the wheel as are substance abusers. Eating is not immoral but gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins. I go to casinos occasionally I don't see any evidence of abnormal behavior by gamblers. I am a religious person but I find nothing in the Bible condemning gambling. Casinos could be a good source of additional revenue and furnished from the free will and accord of citizens. As long as the federal government keeps mandating programs there will always be the necessity for belt-tightening. The federal government also needs some overhauling but that's another story.2 points

When the teacher to administrator ratio is 1:1 and we're educating a large number of students who aren't contributing to the tax rolls in this state, and when bad districts can be bad with no fear of losing funding compared to the good districts, the status quo will remain. We need competition, and real reform in how ISD's are to be structured and how much money as a percent of their tax revenue may be used to fund administration efforts vs. teaching efforts. Even with these cuts we spend way more per student than most countries that are kicking our collective educational ass. It isn't how much we're spending, it's how we're using the resources we have. ...yet enrollment continues to rise state wide. Seems to me that the product (in this case a college education) was underpriced when subsidized by government when the free market is still demanding more, despite the price increase. And casinos exist in close enough proximity where people with gambling problems in this state are already having issues. Why continue to let Oklahoma and Louisiana suck the money out of Texas into their coffers that their casinos allow them to?2 points

The folks asking us to stop complaining and to stop being bitter need to lighten up a little. Fans get emotional after losses, especially losses like last night's. Our board has always been relatively calm and grounded in these situations compared to others I've read. Try reading an Arkansas board after they lose to a mid-major. I want to bitch and moan about what pissed me off in the final minutes of that game...this is the place to do it!2 points

Thank you seniors. you were my first group to see play north texas basketball when i came on campus in 07. to me you are the only NT basketball i know, and will be sad that i dont have the prilvige to see you play one more time. Their has been the highest of highs and the lowest of lows...but yall have always been their ready to play your asses off for the team name on the front. for that i thank you more then you could ever know.2 points

Nope. We would have to win almost every game to get any respect. I don't even think it's worth considering the CBI, If they were to call.2 points

Nice tackle to get that open 3 then nice push off on that final 3 (although still pressure shot to make). Granted we still should have not been in the position to only be up by 2 at the end. But then again I should also add nice turn over and immediate foul for us and then next position miss a shot and foul them at mid court again. Never the less I do have to say it was a good game, I would have been happy if we won but was exciting near the end and congratulations to UALR.2 points

TT should have gotten Tourney MVP even in our loss....MVP should go to the best player on the court, not just the best player on the team who wins...and though bozeman had a hell of a tourney also and hit the winning shot....TT broke 5 tournament records....he should have won IMO1 point

North Texas would benefit from raising their profile. People are starting to recognize North Texas as a good mid-major program. It would be something to show recruits. I agree that the team wouldn't improve like some teams that use a NIT run to launch a successful run the next year. I'd love North Texas to get to the point that they are a NIT at large team (I'd love NCAA but sometimes upsets happen in conference tournament or god forbid there are a few really good teams in the Belt in a given season - you can't always go to the NCAA even if you are good).1 point

Wow. Just..... wow. I don't pop in around here very often, but MY GOODNESS the natives get restless after a few years of crappy football! FFR, I love ya brotha, but could I interest you in a bottle of kelly green Lexapro? As stated earlier, can we please just start winning some d*$m football games?!? That would make the worst of logos look SUHWEETT!!!1 point

As opposed to not playing any more basketball? The NIT is still postseason basketball, even if it's a consolation bracket. If we get invited, which is probably a longshot, then we should absolutely go!1 point

Doesn't matter if Williams, Jones, Forrest, Norris, Mitchell, Hogans, Holmen and A. Williams all average 29 points a game next year. We are going 0'fer.1 point

That was a push off, but one that is rarely called. I have less of a beef over that than the take pancake block on the previous three. The refs were the usual Sun Belt brand of bad and we played bad enough in the last couple of minutes to let them help decide the game. I think we can still be bitter about a lot of what happened last night. There are plenty of things to be bitter about. The guys left something out on the court, they know it, we know it and we are all bitter about it. I have to think the players will have a very bitter taste in their mouths over this though I do have to hand it to them. I wouldn't have been as complimentary of those douchetastic and dirty UALR pricks in a postgame interview.1 point

Great article. I don.t think Jones is going anywhere but you can never be sure. I don't believe long term contracts work for lower tier schools, but I'm all for raising JJ salary as much as practical. Small point, I don't believe Jordan Williams was anywhere close to averaging 29 a game although that is what the DMN reports, much closer to 20.1 point

I guess we will respectfully disagree. He dipped his shoulder, but never extended his arm and Shorter was off balance, so they will swallow their whistle every time. Now the "screen" was a horrible non-call. You just can't ignore something as flagrant as that.1 point

Idk all the facts, but as far as I'm concerned, this is the best senior class in Mean Green basketball history. I just want to thank the seniors for putting the UNT basketball program on the national map. Thanks to them, we have a top 30 recruiting class, as well as Tony Mitchell coming in next year. It was a fun ride fellas, and a tough way to go out, but shit happens. Best of luck in the future to the Mean Green seniors of 2011!1 point

Great senior class. Nice run in the tournament. 20 wins, for what it's worth, once again. That said, with what we had coming back and the expectations off of last year.... if I had told you we'd have double digit losses, go .500 in a down year for the conference, and win neither our division during the regular season OR the conference tournament, "great" would be one of the last adjectives you'd ever give to this season. I'll be honest, in November I'd have found these results unimaginable. While I'll be honest about that, the GREAT thing about how I feel is that that's where JJ has this program. There's not a whole lot at NT with these levels of expectation, and coming into this season, we were in the position to have lofty goals. If we'd had this year a couple of years ago, I'd feel moderately satisfied. As it stands, we're pretty damn lucky this season was a disappointment. I'll miss the hell out of the seniors, but I'm also crazy excited about next year.1 point

Down year for the conference, double digit losses, .500 record in SBC play..... not what anyone hoped for at the outset of the season, and no chance in hades for the NIT. Wish these seniors could have gone out with last season instead of this one.1 point

We can complain about the refs, the missed FT, the clock management, the multiple inbound play meltdowns in the last minute or so... but if we don't commit the braindead sin of fouling like CRAZY in the final minutes with a nice lead, then UALR doesn't virtually close the gap with the clock stopped. If they are simply forced to run their offense and take shots in the last two minutes, we win. Period. Microcosm of the season. A tough one to take, top to bottom.1 point

and it wouldn't be deserved. crappy sun belt play, bad rpi, down year in the belt, and lost in the final to a team they should have beat. next year will be great. this team was wonderful and took us for a great ass ride!1 point
-
Great end of year effort from the guys. They got beat by an inferior but emotional team who made some incredible shots including two threes opened up by an illegal screen and a push off. Ironically, the lack of bench got NT in the end even though both teams played the same number of games.1 point
-
You are right about the fouls, but they were calling it very loose all night, they certainly were not going to call one with the game on the line. Lack of a bench finally caught up with NT. UALR make the plays at the end and NT didn't make enough plays and continued to turn the ball over.1 point
-
Very tough loss to take.....The moving screen and the push off in the last minute hard to accept.1 point

All credit to UALR, because we had the game won and they just took it from us.1 point

Yep. Feels about right. Turnovers, Fouls, Missed FTs. A CLINIC on how to choke away a big lead. We need a miracle now.1 point

But on the positive side (we also watched on ESPN3), the NT crowd sounded awesome and I could see quite a few clumps of green in the stands. Definitely a nice turnout for the guys - thanks to everyone who was able to make the trip. Cheer really loud tonight for those of us stuck at home!1 point

Here is another drink for the Mean Green nation. Alien Secretion (or adult Green Kool Aid). This is a sweet drink (literally), but it is easy to make in advance and is an excellent tailgate cocktail.1 point

Okay, so they are buying more gold and what a shock, much of our oil comes from the Middle East. Oh no, what another shock. What I don't get is your "the U.S. Dollar is third world" bit. Believe me, I know what third world currency is worth, and we're far from that. Then again, let's just keep trying to scare people, right?1 point

Just a guess, but I bet NJ does not have anywhere close to the number of non-English speaking students as Texas. There are many things that Texas and the US in general could do a lot better in education. It is obvious that just spending more money is not the answer. However, I did not know that public employee unions were that big an issue in Texas. Somewhere over the years, the school system focus has been altered from primarily providing education to one of being one of the largest providers of social services to the masses. For example, eliminating non-citizens from the state school system would probably eliminate the state overall budget deficiency in education. There would obviously be many negative effects of such a move both morally and otherwise; but recognition of the tremondous stress on the school system is warranted. Eliminating non-teachers from the payroll sounds great until you consider that a lot of what schools are currently tasked with, including the education and care of special needs children, primary food source for far too many, endless government mandated paperwork, police and security to provide a semblance of safety at some campuses, and the detainment of students that have no interest in education. The bar in average education has been lowered so far to accommodate everyone that a whole system of alternate schools have been generated to insure that at least the most promising or in some cases the most privileged can still get a good public education. Add to these issues, that there are far too many incompetents both in teaching and administration and you get complete futility. Trying to balance education, social justice, with the funds available is a daunting mission made almost impossible by the politics concerned. Funny, you didn't hear a lot about this impending education funding crisis before the elections.1 point

I doubt I'm the only one who likes our current logo better than the NTw/star. I wouldn't wear anything with that logo, period. The university hit a home run with our current font/logo and those who keep clamoring for the alumni assoc. logo to represent the university are just wasting breath (or type).1 point
