The current issue of The Sporting News (Feb. 28 issue) has their off-season assessment of every FBS team. Here's what they say about Mean Green football: "With new Coach Dan McCarney on board, bet on the Mean Green's defensive line to make major improvements in a hurry. Staff changes mean this program might have the best long-term forecast in the league."7 points

Agreed...these seniors deserve our thanks and our support Saturday night. In our "what have you done for me lately" society, it is easy to remember the last few months of disappointing basketball. But we also need to remember that these guys have moved UNT up a notch or two over the last 4 years and deserved to be remembered for that as well. So, everyone come on out and support the seniors! GO MEAN GREEN....5 points

You left off Kenny Lyons' jersey number. A university of this size still has yet to retire the jersey number of it's all time leading scorer in basketball after what, 30 years, is unbelievable to me. Rick3 points

What do you like about UNT? Our Talons can't manage to take care of a cannon or bell. Our shade of green looks like vomit. Our branding/logos are nowhere near up to snuff. We're not using the AC deck the way we should. The pricing of club level seats in the new stadium blows. We don't demand enough of our basketball program. Our Alumni Association listens not to our most important fans opinions. I'm sure I'm leaving more out, but how could anyone care for a university that can't get a single thing right? Edit: We also don't have a good chant for use at football games. We can't figure out how to make out hands look the most like an eagles foot.3 points

Guys, we can't continue bagging on the opinions of those who don't fully support our program. Those opinions are the ones we need to be thinking about when decisions are made. Guys like George will always defend UNT. Guys like Craig have an unbiased vantage point and can tell it like it is. I can appreciate George for his love of the school. But I can also place value on Craig's thoughts because they come from the pool of UNT alumni we need to start backing us.3 points

+1, and a good find SUMG! What a lot of people, including some GMG.com members, don't realize is that coach McCarney has credibility developing DL players, and will be as involved as he feels is necessary to improve that aspect of our football team.2 points

There have been numerous requests for the NT Exes logo to be used as the helmet logo. More for it than not, and the AD Dept and alumni association knows this. It would sell even better if it had a team's uniform to go on, like the helmet, but then the alumni association would lose exclusivity, or so we were told nearly 10 years ago? When it first came out the battle for the AD Dept to use the NT Exes logo was a big deal to the many who cared. A version of it is currently used on the Letterman jackets and it looks great. Rick2 points

Referring that participation numbers in the Alumni Association is low and that we as alumni have no pull or say with the university because of those low numbers is a smear? Sounds like fact to me? Rick2 points
-
Silver...never any problem with an open discussion, but FFR's comments hardly indicate an open discussion. Throwing around personal slights and mean spirited comments to advance a personal agenda is not open discussion. The Alumni Association (it hasn't been the Exes for a few years now) is not exempt from open discussion. Never has been. Open discussions imply being responsive to actually listening to what one has to say...not posting slurs and smears on a message board. If anyone would like an open discussion regarding the Alumni Association, as a member of its Board of Directors I am all for that. Just leave your personal attacks and petty bitches at the door. That sort of thing never helps and is more a reflection on the party doing that sort of thing than on the person or organization being attacked.2 points

I had a dream where I happily stated..."I'm a member of the alumni association and I'm giving you permission to use it in any way you or the university would like Mr. Villareal and Mr. Rawlins". Rick2 points

The NT looks very good on my white and green helmet on PS3. Lets just put it on the F-ing helmet and keep it there for the next 100 years! How old is the "NT/star" logo and did a student come up with the "NT/star"? The star makes the logo!1 point

Andre Young Also...I have a question for those smarter than I. With so many uncommitted and highly talented (plenty of 3-stars around DFW) still out there....is the best thing we can hope for is a walk on status at this point? I see O-linemen, DTs, WRs and more out there that would really shore up this class. Is signing date the last date that a school can offer a scholarship to uncommitted players?1 point

No, but the kid had four offers in November and didn't sign with a 1-A school. It's pretty obvious why.1 point

Caaaaatttt Fiiiiggghhhttttt!!!! But seriously I don't think there is any denying of any of FFR complaints. Support and participation has been a problem for a long time and was definately an issue when I played from 03-07. Ps. The alumni logo is what we wanted on the helmets when I was a player. That's why my roomate who was on the committee to design the new letter jacket changed it to the interlocking NT minus the star.1 point

FFR - What ever happened to the chant you organized a couple years ago: Another thought, every time UNT scores a touchdown we could chant "Odufu-who, Odufu-wa" and watch the question marks appear above the opposing fans' heads.1 point

Personal slights? I didn't see anyone named in his comments. Is this how you conduct discussion/debate? Because saying that Rick made personal slights is inaccurate, and from my view, is intended to derail/distract from a real discussion.1 point

His dad played football at OU. I think if your dad played football somewhere, you'd probably have grown up cheering for that team. Miller lived in OKC as a kid before his parents moved to Lancaster. About the same thing. No other sports in OKC back then except the Sooners (and minor league hockey). I don't consider those guy t-shirt fans. To me, t-shirt fans are the ones who jump on the bandwagon because of a particular player or era. With OU there were probably people down here following them because of Adrian Peterson. Or, all of the Miami Hurricane fans I knew growing up in Richardson, Texas in the 1980s who had no family or friends anywhere near the state of Florida let alone Miami. It's the same as any other big time school. What we need to do is subdue the penis envy for these other schools and win. People like winners. Winners draw people. Let's do some of it, winning, instead of sitting around and complaining about what other people do and wear. Cowflop. Cowf. Lop. T-shirt fan Napolean Dynamite, sparing GoMeanGreen.com's T-shirt/College Loyalty Mounted Police with his Ricks College t-shirt.1 point

You could have done better than that. The logo on the right is one of the Texas A&M logos, if you didn't know. For the record, I like the UNT Alumni Association logo and the SOW, though I still thing the SOW is a little more original...not that it really matters.1 point

I certainly don't turn my nose up at 20 win seasons, but looking at our schedule to start the year, 20 years should have been easily reached, but 20 wins shouldn't be our goal each year. Our goals should be to win conference, win the conference tournament and make some noise in the NCAA tournament. Those should be our goals every year, and if they were, 20 wins would take care of itself. I hate to repeat myself, but this team has won all the games it will win this year, but I couldn't agree with KRAM1 more about showing up to thank the seniors on this team for what they have done for this program. Without their success we would have never realized a recruiting class like the one just signed.1 point

1. C.H. Collins is a better stadium than Fouts. 2. We are building a new stadium. 3. Craig Miller is a moron.1 point

You're probably the only one, or possibly two, who doesn't. FFR and I have had a professional in the field of school logos tell us that the NT-star image is the best one that UNT has ever come up with. He also couldn't believe that the UNT administration nor the Alumni association wasn't mass producing the image. Instead we rip-off American Airlines and the US postal service.1 point

I had a dream where folks actually knew what they were talking about when it comes to intellectual property and branding issues to inclue the use of one's copyrighted logo.1 point

Miller is such a dork, but at least they were talking UNT football. Obviously Craig Miller has, once again, no idea what he is talking about...the Super Bowl teams practiced in HS stadiums and facilities for gosh sake. Good for George for telling the "rest of the story". The bad news...once more Craig Miller shows what a dork he really is...the good news...UNT spring football was a topic of conversation on the Ticket and George was there to give Miller a few facts that he obviously has no clue about. Then again, when one is clueless like Miller, it often reflects more on him than it does UNT. Maybe he's the dork they use to try to ramp up ratings by knocking a local university and getting its fans hyped up about it all. Since he comes off as stupid and dorky, do you think it's all a game? maybe a way for the Ticket to attract UNT fans waiting for Miller to show how stupid he is on the air? Could be..... Thanks George...GO MEAN GREEN!1 point

Mean Green Sports Nice win for the ladies without 2 of Top 3 in line-up. Good luck to the ladies heading into the weekend matches in Louisville.1 point

I was a bit disappointed that LSU canceled their spring game verse UNT last weekend. The tournament replaced the game with a match verse the University of Houston. Every school except LSU played two games. First, spring matches provide an opportunity for the coaching staff to tinker with formations, evaluate players and get a general feel for the squad heading into next year. Our ladies lost to Rice 1-0 but looked very sharp at times and controlled the match most of the second half. Note: Rice loan goal did not come against our starting defensive back line. In the second match UNT tied University of Houston 1-1 in a pretty evenly played match. Our goal came on a header (Kelsey Hodges) off a corner kick. Haley Newsom played really strong at keeper which was great to see as the Mean Green have big shoes to fill with the graduation of Mandy Hall this year. The terrible weather only allowed our girls a week of practice outdoors (only 3-4 days), but the girls conditioning looked pretty good. Scoring was at a minimum not only for UNT but for all the other schools as well, i.e #4 OK State 1 LSU 0; OK State 1 Rice 0; TX Tech 2 SFA 1 were a few matches I watched). Our play against Rice (3rd in C-USA) and their result against #4 in the nation OK-State should make for an interesting match this coming Saturday in Stillwater. GMG1 point

Rick really needs to travel back in time to a place where he can be happy. So tired of reading complaints about this and that and how much better things used to be. By the way, the kelly green looks so much better than the forest green. We looked great on tv last year.1 point

Here is the bracket heading into tonight. We have the possibility of being seeded anywhere from W2-W5. If we get seeded W2 (the least likely) we will play the winner of ULM and WKU/MTSU. If we do not get a bye, our first round opponent will likely be either Troy, USA, or FIU, although if WKU collapses late, they could be a first round opponent as well. The teams in Red are locked into their seed. In my opinion, the W5 seed has the easiest path of any non-bye seed right now.1 point

OK, time for a plug....the donations button on the GMG.com board has stagnated at the $90 level. We have a ways to go to reach the $500 goal from that site. I just want to encourage you to consider a donation to the cause. We have a great event brewing and the cause is a good one. Lots of your GMG.com and Mean Green Nation members/friends have either donated, signed up to play, mailed checks directly to me and handed me donations, but we still have a long way to go. WE NEED YOUR HELP! ANYTHING...any amount that you can donate would be greatly appreciated. We are not asking for your first born child here, just something that you feel comfortable in giving. You decide. Just remember you are not donating to GMG.COM, KRAM1 or for something that may have made you upset in the past. You are helping the UNT Cheer Squad that is on the floor today and out in the community helping present a positive image for UNT and UNT Athletics. These kids are not on any sort of athletic scholarship as they are at some schools, and they get a very small budget...very small. They do a great job with very limited resources and do it because they love to be part of UNT Athletics and in supporting this great university of ours. I am deeply appreciative for those who have donated, signed up to play, etc. to date. I am also appreciative of those who are considering a donation of any size or are still considering playing. I know your time and resources are limited. It says a lot about people who with those limited resources and time step up to help. UPDATE...should have an autographed UNT football and UNT Basketball to place in a silent auction at the event...if you can't attend and want to place a bid on either or both, PM me and I'll give you the details on how you can do that. I hope to have photos of both posted on the board as soon as I am in possession of them. You should know that the UNT Athletic Dept. has been very involved and very positive and very helpful regarding this event. I tip my hat in gratitude to them...and I mean lots of them. Yes, you are 100% correct. Non-players may purchase game day shirts for $25...I just need to know the size and if they want a green or white shirt and what name they want on the back (please try to keep the numbers of letters to as few as possible). Thanks for the reminder...if you are interested, just PM me with the info. Shirts can be picked up and paid for by cash or check (no credit cards, please and thank you). Checks can be made payable to UNT Athletics. Or, if need be...everything can be done through the mail or through delivery/pick-up at a different date/time. I'll work with you on this if you want to purchase a shirt to help the UNT Cheer Squad. GO MEAN GREEN!1 point

Is it right that shirts can be purchased by non-players as well? Same deadline? Same donation amount (I assume)?1 point

UPDATE: New players added...we are now up to 16 confirmed players (that includes the mighty Censored By Laurie who is trying to come down from the hinterlands for the game. I have also asked about an autographed football and an autographed basketball that can be used in a silent auction at the event and after party to help raise some additional funds and have received positive responses on both, but I do not have either in my possession as yet. In addition, we are working on a possible Title Sponsor who would help with expenses and provide a place for the after event. This is going to be fun...both for participants and spectators...like the GMG.Com flag football game. You really won't want to miss the fun. DEADLINE FOR PLAYERS TO SIGN UP IS 5:00PM (CST) on Friday March 11th! After that we will prepare for the player draft and we will be ordering the game day player t-shirts. Sorry, have to cut it off at some point, so be sure and sign up now if you are wanting to play. Spectators welcome...no need to sign up for that. There is a donations site on the home page of the GMG.com forums page for those who would like to help make this a success and provide some much needed funds for the UNT Cheer Squad. Our stated goal is to raise a net of $1000 or more for the Cheer Squad. PM me if you have questions or comments, want to help or just want to comment or sign-up to help or play. My sincere thanks to all those who have signed up to play, made donations or offered to help to date! You folks are the GREATEST! GO MEAN GREEN!1 point

****UPDATE**** With the pretty much shocking loss by Denver to USA earlier, the scenarios have become even simpler. Regardless of what happens in the Denver/ULL game, our hopes for a bye will continue to Saturday (unless we lose @ASU). Obviously, these scenarios assume that we have won out and we end with a conference record of 9-7. Here are the two scenarios split by the result of the DEN/ULL game. Scenario 1: IF Denver loses to ULL on Thursday, we receive a bye if we win out, AND UALR wins @ Arkansas State on Saturday Scenario 2: IF Denver defeats ULL on Thursday, we get a bye if we win out and these two things happen....1) ULM defeats ULL on Saturday AND 2) UALR defeats Arkansas State on Saturday.1 point
