So my friend was talking to me and hyping up the all star weekend and said hey Saturday you should come over and watch the dunk, 3-point and skills competitions! I said naw, if I want to see someone make a great dunk Ill watch odufua slam it home, if I want to see someone light it up from 3 point range I will just watch tristan scorch the nets, and if I want to see some mad ball handling skills I will just watch josh take it to the paint. So now instead of watching the all star game he will now be attending the UNT basketball game!4 points

So I am working on a project in Fort Lauderdale and decided to scoot up to see what FAU was like. It was a Friday so students were everywhere, but I also wanted to see where their new stadium was going to be. It is literally across the street from their business school on the loop drive of the campus. It is as close to on campus as SMU's is. Our mecca is much further along. I assume they don't open theirs this year otherwise they are going to have to crank. But I was impressed with how this school which people could barely give me directions to is on the rise. While looking for their bookstore I noticed a tailgate emerging outside their baseball stadium. By the time I left their tailgate with DJ in the parking lot, frat brothers sitting on top of a bus...was in full swing. I thought for a baseball game, pretty cool. School spirit looks way behind what RV and the fans have had a chance to build over the past decade. I don't see a ton of FAU gear like you see Mean Green gear in Denton. So we have them beat there, but I think I want to travel and see a game out here in their new digs in 2012. More importantly we must stay ahead of them in the arms race. I saw their big traveling truck with the big 2007 New Orleans Bowl Champions logo on it. I teared up:( Sorry I digressed. We must stay ahead of them or they will be a beautiful fit for CUSA expansion. For all the flack FIU and FAU have taken from the national media and fans in the past, both of those Miami/FLL area teams have been bowling and won bowl games in the past few years. The drought must end. Mean Green football must rise up beginning this fall. GMG P.S. - their bookstore bit. Talk about a lack of gear and accessories. Now the University of Miami was another story. Next stop FIU.3 points

Got off the 4 game slide. Do we begin a win streak? ULM has been pretty lousy by any standard this year, but that sorta worries me.2 points

I wish I knew more about what was coming up, but Johhny's wife is not talking much at work and now I seem to know more then her about recruiting right now... I am still excited about the tourney and our last 2 scholarships!2 points

It use to be... But I would agree that we will pump the breaks if we get a comfortable lead. We have to save our legs. Pretty much we are now running with a 8 man roster... if you want to count the so called "minutes" knox is getting2 points

Less then 5 hours.... I do not see us losing this game. If we lose to a one win team in our conference we might as well kiss that bye could bye. I foresee a blowout. Unt wins 86-63 our first 20 point win in quite some time2 points

I don't really have an opinion on the roster situation for next year, but you can add him to the list of players JJ was somewhat counting on playing some minutes this year. Cam Spencer Alonzo Edwards Alzee Williams Collin Mangrum Considering all of this and not having a true option for losing Tramiel; what the team was able accomplish in the 1st half of the season is impressive. I know things haven't worked out much since then and excuses suck, but looking at that list can be a big factor this late in the season.2 points

rv may be a lot of things to a lot of people, but he is a yes man to none.he has accomplished more in his tenure than all other unt ad's combined, and you don't do that by not standing up for your convictions.2 points

I finally got around to typing this up. This is going to be pretty long, but this is the situation we are in. This shows what can occur if we win out. That would mean we win our three remaining games at home, and then the two road games in Arkansas. ASU worries me significantly more than UALR, but that does not matter at this point. I am going to be working with the loss column a lot, and here are the current loss numbers for West Division contenders: Denver - 4 Arkansas State - 4 ULL - 5 UALR - 5 UNT - 6 Now, if we win out, our final record will be 10-6, and by virtue of winning out, UNT would give losses to ASU, UALR, and Denver. Losses for contenders would then be: Denver - 5 Arkansas State - 5 ULL - 5 UALR - 5 UNT - 6 There are many things that can happen, but this scenario ONLY considers what is completely in our control, which means our own games, as well as games between certain teams that guarantee there are losses to go around. These games are UALR @ ASU, ASU @ ULL (tonight), and Denver @ ULL. For this scenario we are assuming these teams win all other games they play. There are eight possible ways that these games can work themselves out, and I basically used sort of a binary system to do it. (0) UALR @ (1) ASU (0) ASU @ (1) ULL (0) Denver @ (1) ULL Using those 0's and 1's to show who wins, the eight scenarios are (from top to bottom): 1. 000 2. 100 3. 010 4. 001 5. 110 6. 011 7. 101 8. 111 Here are the outcomes of those scenarios: 1) Denver wins the west (11-5)...UNT, UALR, ASU tied for #2. UNT would be 4-0 head to head vs. those teams and would win the tiebreak. Bye #1: Denver; Bye #2: North Texas. 2) UNT, ASU, UALR and Denver all tied for SBCW title. UNT wins the tiebreak with a 5-1 record between the 3 other teams. Bye #1: North Texas; Bye #2: depends. 3) Denver wins the west (11-5)...UNT, ULL, and UALR tied for #2. UNT with a 3-1 record against those teams gets the second bye. Bye #1: Denver; Bye #2: North Texas. 4) All five teams tied for the title. UNT wins the tiebreak with a 6-2 record against involved teams. Bye #1 North Texas; Bye #2: depends. 5) Denver wins the west (11-5)...UNT, ASU, and ULL tied for #2. UNT wins the tiebreak with a 3-1 record against involved teams. Bye #1: Denver; Bye #2: North Texas. 6) ULL wins the west (11-5)...UNT, ASU, UALR, and Denver tied for #2. UNT wins the tiebreak with a 5-1 record against involved teams. Bye #1: ULL; Bye #2: North Texas 7) ASU wins the west (11-5)...UNT, ULL, and Denver tied for #2. All three teams are tied head to head, but UNT's 8-2 record vs. the west division wins it. Bye #1: ASU; Bye #2: North Texas. 8) ULL wins the west (11-5)...UNT, ASU, and Denver tied for #2. With a 3-1 record vs. involved teams UNT wins the tiebreak. Bye #1: ULL, Bye #2: North Texas. If we win out, we are guaranteed a bye. The fact that almost all of our losses have come to the east division helps with tiebreaks, and if we win out, we will literally hold every tiebreak possible against every west division team. These scenarios also assume all involved teams win all of their other games. With certain breaks, it would be possible for UNT to go 4-1 in this stretch and still get a bye. Once the ASU/ULL game tonight has been played, 4 of these scenarios will disappear. We are getting down to crunch time. For what its worth, of these scenarios, here are the potential west division champions: Denver - 3 scenarios North Texas - 2 scenarios ULL - 2 scenarios ASU - 1 scenario Hope that wasn't too long for you guys. It will basically be cut in half tonight, and we could also get a boost from a UALR loss. Go Mean Green!2 points

Ok, here we go. After the Saturday games I will start a new "last week" thread for these scenarios, but for now it can just get added on to here: The big things tonight were ULL beating ASU, and WKU beating UALR (its not a huge deal, but does give UALR an extra loss in case something wacky happens). With the Cajuns victory, 4 of the scenarios above are eliminated. The scenarios that are still alive are numbers 3, 5, 6, and 8. The remaining scenarios below have been changed to take into account the UALR loss, and once again take into account ONLY what is in our control, or inevitable (if two teams play, one has to lose). Here are the 4 scenarios: 1) If Denver wins @ ULL...and UALR wins @ ASU: Denver wins the west (11-5)...UNT and ULL tied for #2. UNT wins the tiebreak by virtue of a better record vs. all west division teams. Bye #1: Denver; Bye #2 North Texas. 2) If Denver wins @ ULL...and ASU wins vs. UALR: Denver wins the west (11-5)...UNT, ULL, and ASU tie for #2. UNT wins the tiebreak with a 3-1 record vs. all involved teams. Bye #1: Denver; Bye #2: North Texas. 3) If ULL wins vs. Denver...and UALR wins @ ASU: ULL wins the west (11-5)...UNT and Denver tied for #2. UNT wins the tiebreak with a better record vs. all west division teams. Bye #1: ULL; Bye #2: North Texas. 4) If ULL wins vs. Denver...and ASU wins vs. UALR: ULL wins the west (11-5)...UNT, ASU, and Denver tied for #2. UNT wins the tiebreaker with a 3-1 record vs. all involved teams. Bye #1: ULL; Bye #2: North Texas. So, as long as we keep winning, we WILL get a bye. It seems funky, but because ULL beat ASU, we now need help to get the west division title. It is not impossible though. There are also a couple games on Saturday that could hand losses to a couple of these teams: ASU @ Troy - ASU has not looked great on the road and Troy is playing well of late. WKU @ ULL - The toppers can help us out a lot with a win on Saturday. After those two games, the help is pretty much gone, and we need to take care of business ourselves. Once I get some brainpower back, I'm going to try and see if there is anyway to still get a bye if we drop 1 of these last 4. My initial guess is that it would be nearly impossible. Go Mean Green!2 points

I'm also an SMU guy, and I'm kind of annoyed by the lack of UNT in our OOC schedule in both football (though that's changing) and basketball. Just by reading comments on either forum it's clear there's animosity; it's time to turn that into a full-fledged regional rivalry on the field and court.2 points

Thanks for stopping by our campus. I also like to go around and look at college campuses when I travel. It's a good way to kill some time. Anyway, our stadium will be ready by mid October. We open with 4 straight road games. Our campus is currently undergoing a transformation of sorts. New dorms are going up and the football stadium is the centerpiece of the project. The goal is to transform us from a commuter school to a traditional college campus a la UCF a few years back. The results have been pretty good so far. When I was in school in the early 2000's, we'd get a few hundred people at a basketball game on a good night. Now we are consistently getting 1500-2500 every game. Students actually care about the programs now(which is a pleasant change!). It should only get better once the stadium opens. Please come back for a game sometime!1 point

I don't forsee a blowout, that's not usually our style even when we're fully manned. But I do think this absolutely needs to be a win, and should be one. If we do get out to a healthy lead, we'll probably slow down the pace to try and minimize fatigue. If Monroe is as terrible as they were at Denver, blowout.1 point

I saw in the DRC that he may need some major surgery and has missed a lot of practice. Where do we go form here with this guy? Do we renew his scholarship? What happens without him or spencer next year? We need size, but even if we get Jarion Henry we still need some muscle down low. Do we not go after spencers red shirt and not bring back alonzo? Just a thought while we all wait for tonight's game.1 point

For those of you who may not have noticed and who are wanting to help raise some funds for our great UNT Cheer Squad...and who are not able to either play or attend the GMG.COM Basketball Classic on march 26th, a PayPal donations button has been set up on the GMG.Com forums page. Just look to the right hand side and there you have it. We wanted to make it easier for folks to help out with this great project in support of the UNT Cheer Squad. Any amount...any...would be both greatly appreciated and is greatly needed (I can assure you of that). Our stated goal for the entire event is a net ...net...of $1000 for the UNT Cheer Squad in this our first GMG.Com BB Classic. The PayPal site itself has a $500 contributions goal. Can we get there? can we raise more than the $500? I am 100% certain that we can WITH your help. Please consider a donation...any amount...and please let others know about the game, the reason for the game and how they can help with a donation. If you are like a friend of mine, and just do not like doing anything through payPal...just PM me and I'll give you my address where you can send a check. I am counting on the Great Mean green nation to help out, but most of all, the wonderful Mean Green Cheer Squad is counting on your support. Let's show them that we do appreciate all the work they do, the time they give and the help they provide to the University of North Texas. Can we? ABSOLUTELY! Will we? Well, I say yes! Thanks so much....you ARE appreciated! GO MEAN GREEN...GO UNT CHEER! Go GMG.COM!1 point

Do we know that they are being recruited by Texas and aTm? I know they show interest in those schools, doesn't say the interest is reciprocated. Not attempting to disparage these kids in any way, just saying that our chances may be better than you think since every kid in Texas is gonna list Texas as an interest...just like every kid in California will have USC or UCLA on their schools of interest.1 point

Wow, who knew Texas sucked so bad?! It's the same story from the same liberal Texas Democrats every year. Texas blows. We're the worst in so so many areas.... But I can cherry-pick statistics too. According to CNBC Texas ranks: #1 in transportation and infrastructure #1 in economy #4 in technology and innovation #7 in access to business capital #8 in overall cost of living #1 overall in top business states #1 in the nation in child support enforcement #1 in 2010 for economic growth1 point

Gotta disagree. For one thing, destroying a tree that's over 100 years old deprives someone of the joy of seeing it or enjoying some shade from it, even if you don't. For another, noone has the right to destroy something that doesn't belong to them. If it is on public land, do you grant someone the right to take what is at least partly yours? If so, how can you grant them the right to take what is at least partially owned by many others? On the other hand, I don't like people tearing up anything just for the sake of jacking with other people and what they care about.1 point

These are heady days for the Egyptian people for sure, but there is much danger lurking. The proof in this will be what comes out of this very peaceful "revolution" that has taken place in Egypt. It is very exciting and has the makings of a great time for Egypt in really installing a democratic government and improving the lives of so many of its citizens. But, do not think for one minute that those in power in all the agencies and branches of government and who control business and commerce will go away willingly and quietly. There will be no increasing of wages and replacing of management overnight. There are many rough days ahead and after all the cheering and congratulations some leaders must emerge and emerge quickly to head off radical factions who would love to take control of this seemingly moderate Middle east nation. The Muslim Brotherhood (among others) must be giddy over the prospects in front of them in Egypt at the moment. I am extremely happy to see how the military handled this whole event and you have to give Mubarak some credit for not turning it into the bloody mess that he probably could have early on...as the same or more credit goes to all the massed protesters. This could have been a blood bath, could still turn that way. I also need to say that I think the Obama Administration handled this situation pretty well...from all accounts I can find. I know it's strange for me to praise anything this administration does, but i think credit is deserved in this case. It is one of the first foreign policy type events I think the Obama Administration has handled pretty darn well. Credit where credit is due. Anyway, we all recall when the Iraqi citizens were dancing in the streets and pulling down all the Hussein pictures, etc. That lasted a short while and then tuned into chaos. We saw the Green revolution sputter out in Iran, etc. Yes, good things can and may well develop, but one must be careful not to count ones chickens before they hatch with this revolution. There has been no real leadership emerge from the reveloutuion...if a leadership vacuum develops, watch out the the radical side to seize the day. remember, this is the one major Arab nation that signed a peace treaty with Israel and has recognized Israel's existence. There has been peace on the Egyptian-Israeli borders ever since. Much can be gained in Egypt from this, but much is to be lost as well. The joy must quickly be replaced with responsible and democratic leadership if Egypt is to truly WIN from this revolution. The world will be watching as will the people of many other nation's whose leaders rule through oppression. Let's hope what we all see is the birth of a great and free democratic Egypt.1 point

Well, it was a 3rd party trying to put this together, and the article doesn't say Wisconsin doesn't want to come to fort worth. Purely speculation that they don't.1 point

The article makes it very clear a 1 for 1 contract would get a different reception than a 1 and done. Why doesn't Wisconsin want to come to Ft Worth?1 point

I don't blame TCU for not playing them again. The chance that a defeated team will beat the defeater goes up incredibly the second time around...unless you are North Texas.1 point

Exactly. I'd hate to miss out on such an historic match-up like Baylor v TCU.1 point

I really doubt that's the reason. I think the real reason is that Baylor and TCU will garner more interest in their fan bases than Wisconsin and TCU. Those 2 fan bases don't really like each other too much. I just saw Wisconsin play TCU last month.1 point

Egypt controls the Suez Canal, through which millions of gallons of oil are shipped through every month. Markets are reactive. The price of oil is up over half a dollar a barrell just with the unrest. If this government falls, I would expect a $10 a barrell jump. As for those who don't think Egypt could become a muslim state, why don't you review the history of Iran. Huge parallels.1 point

yeah, and just imagine how many games could have been won if he had retained the defensive coaching staff instead of bring in all the HS defensive staff. The DC that was in place at the time he was hired had already improved the defense from the year before he arrived. And while we are imagining things. Just imagine what might have happened if in the waining moments of the 2001 NT/NMSU game the NMSU coaching staff had not made such a bone headed decision, which our safety turned into a turn over....followed by a miracle fourth down catch that won the game. NONE OF WHICH HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH COACH DICKEY'S COACHING SKILLS.0 points

After reading the forum rules, I’m not sure how to proceed. Please help! There are several recruits that I would love to see this new staff at least touch base with, question is “how to list them”. I understand the forum rules format (listings/links etc) but… Is it ok to list them or should I just send an e-mail to the forum moderator? Do I list each one separately or small batches? THANKS! BTW Hopefully you’ll only have to tell me this once!-1 points
