The DFW market is not a UT or any other university market. For the Dallas Morning News it is a Big XII market. The conference office is in Plano and spends a lot of advertising dollars with them so they get the big play even though none of their colleges are in the market area. Also, the ESPN and Fox outlets in the area have the big contracts with the Big XII so they are going to give them dominance. Couple that with the fact that North Texas seldom does anything newsworthy and you can see why we get little publicity. I believe that for us to make a major impact in this market we must 1) have ten win seasons or better, 2) advance to another conference, 3) recruit heavily in the DFW market, 4) increase advertising with the DMN and the FWST and 5) have some noteworthy players such as Lance Dunbar to herald. Then you will see formerly taciturn North Texas fans emerge from the woodwork.3 points

Ahem... When you attempt to delete portions of history because they don't line up with your ideological agenda, that equates to "making it up as you go" in my opinion.3 points

Here's a thread on Cyclone Fanatic about Dan Mac and your recruiting class in general. I thought you guys might be interested in some opinions. http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/general-college-sports/113519-mccarneys-first-recruiting-class.html2 points

Were you not the guy who posted the quote from his facebook exclaiming that he was coming to UNT? I would say we have a chance, especially with the grade issue. I do not know how to make it clear. But I promise this. I am not guaranteeing he is coming or what his chances are. But I know for a 100% fact that Royce Johnson has said he has interest in UNT. I know I can trust the coach who I heard it from though it was more or less in passing. I do not hear as much working at a middle school but there is always talk with coaches there wanting to get connected at the high school level. I also know that when Phillip Miller played DHS that he talked about the strong recruiting class UNT already had. He is holding an offer from UNT but is not planning on taking it apparently. (Do we really need another 6-1 guard anyway? not sure...) But he talked Jarion Henry and Jordan Williams. They have talked about playing together and the interest is there. That is all I know... sadly I have a full time job and a family so I cannot dig real deep on this one. So I guess we will just have to play the waiting game on this one. Either way we have a great class already coming in with 2 open scholarships and a great coach. We will be in good shape.2 points

For whatever its worth, tonight was senior night for most DISD teams. During halftime of Kimball's game against Pinkston, the person introducing the players and their parents mentioned that Jarion was considering Georgetown, Marquette, Oregon and USC. (same schools listed on Rivals) Though Jarion grew up in the LA area, many older hoop fans may remember his dad, Skeeter Henry. Skeeter was a good player at South Grand Prairie but a better player @ OU for BIlly Tubbs. I'd put the Henry talk/speculation to bed!2 points

You wish. Trade Socially Conservative Evangelical Christian Crazies for Socially Conservative Mormon Crazies? Really, there's not much difference. Both insist on less government, unless it helps push the moral agenda of their particular invisible sky wizard. And, ya know, making sh*t up as they go when it comes to history and science...2 points

One question. If MT is Mediocre TN, then what is WKU ? W Kommonplace U ? Humdrum U ? When is the last time the Goattoppers beat us in anything ?1 point

I would say they are the closest thing to a rival in our conference.... who else has been on our level over the past 4 years? No one. This is our time to be seen at the national level and let people know what the green are capable of doing. (Even though our records do not show it, these are two great veteran teams who can really ball)1 point

but again....I considered Harvard, Cornell and others.....and wanted to attend but my grades held me back. I just don't think that his SAT/GPA will be acceptable enough for those schools (Marquette maybe). Similar thing happening to Tony....when grades and academics take a backseat then those schools just have a hard time justifying to the fanbase bringing in someone who obviously won't be able to handle the curriculum without some type of help.1 point

--I don't pretend to know the answers.... but what is happening isn't it. I have a son that when he (or his wife) gets a raise.. they pays 33% in income tax...Ovbviously theya re getting a veryslary and show up at work every day... meanwhile those playing on Wall Street and the Ross Perot types only pay 15% on their capitol gains..... is that right?? ... nope... I pay about more 25% as well on any increased earnings I have. . The super wealthy do pay more than us but they also earn a lot more... but usually pay a smaller percent. The tax deal that was voted down in December and would have helped a lot... would have only raised taxes on those earning $250,000 or more and even then only the part over $250,000. ---I think many have suckered into thinking they are getting a great deal.... they aren't. ---Meanwhile in Texas those of us in education (both college and public schools) are going the poor devils that are going to have to pay and suffer for the state's shortfall and the stupidity that has been going on in Austin the past 10 years.... not the superwealthy... They have been passing out candy (tax-cuts) to contributors to stay in office . Don't be so party loyal and read what various ones are doing... We also have the highest home and auto insurance in the nation... (big contributors also) ---To me conservative means earning (or collecting) enough money to pay your bills.. politicians are not elected to just pass out candy (tax cuts) to stay in office forever... but to make make good decisions and do what is best for the people they represent...even if it gets them un-elected by those who don't get it .... Bush Sr.and the congress then was doing what needed to be done.... trying to get the budget under control. He was voted out for doing what was right.. the candy lovers voted Perot. .1 point

Um, no, that's just plain wrong. The tax rate for the wealthiest Americans was no higher under Carter than any President before him in modern history. It was the same as it was under Ford & Nixon. It was higher under Kennedy and Eisenhower. And Obama is not "repeating Carter's history", the tax rates for the wealthiest Americans are lower under Obama than they were under Reagan.1 point

Because "ours" does not belong to us, thus it is not used to haul equipment. It belongs to one of the UNT Dancer Dads' and it is on loan while she is here. He did the same thing for another child at Texas. The trailer is a big lounge and has been used for college days at high schools in the area so I have been told. Our truck is actually a moving van that is loaned to us each weekend during football season by Little Guy Movers here in Denton.1 point

Although I am in agreement with you on this, my tendency is to refine the expression of the experience. To do that, I can only turn to that great sage who dominated the culture my first year at UNT, Ford Fairlane: " [political discussions are] like masturbating with a cheese grater: slightly amusing, but mostly painful."1 point

Egypt has little to do with the current or past administration... truth is, Egypt has been a powder keg for well over twenty years... After Sadat was assassinated, I was surprised their wasn't a large uprising. Health Care Debate...not the first ruling: 2 for, 2 against...right down appointed political lines. Shocking development, really. As for your "paragraph" or "statement" on Egypt...I mean, there are unintelligible ramblings...and then there is this. Seriously...absolutely nobody, not the US, not Europe, not Ben Ali and Mubarak, not the protesters themselves could've had any cognition as to the scale of what is currently brewing. For anyone to attempting to lay blame or criticize, really anyone, for the unexpected scale of these events is beyond lunacy. There's partisan-ized opinion...then theres just insanity.1 point

This team is not playing well. They are not focused(missed free throws) don't adjust well on defense and too much one-on-one with everyone standing around on offense. Is Johnnie too heavy handed? Are the players feeling the pressure of repeating as champs or are we just not that good period? What the hell is going on?0 points

Does anyone know if there is any interest in Denton High product Adam Choplick? He does not list any schools of interest on Rivals but I know that he has visited the campus. He is among the Top 30 in the area in both rebounds and points scored. Although only 6'6" he appears to be a true center, something that we are sorely lacking.0 points

The Tar Heels, Blue Devils, and Wildcats of the world hit bumps when they are suppose to dominate to...our future is still bright, but probably another 2 or 3 years from the Big Dance though. Looks like we may have spent to much energy in OOC play, while the rest of our conference did not.0 points

This is a pretty nice thing for the athletic dept. to do for the season ticket holders. Just a little "added value" after they opened up the "ice bowl" game for free admission to all. I called yesterday and ordered two for the Denver game. The ticket office was helpful and got them very near my current seats, and they knew the program was "on" and will mail the tickets to me...you can pick them up if you wish. No problems getting these tickets...friendly and fast and knowledgeable service as well. So, good job on this athletic dept. Nice to see you recognize the impact on season ticket holders and stepped up to add some value. AND, in so doing look to have a good plan to bring some additional people to the last three home games. I know I will invite a couple of people to the game that have not come to a game yet this season. They may have free tickets, but they will definitely spend some cash at the concession stand and may like it so much that they return on their own next season and buy tickets as well. Good deal all the way around in my opinion. GO MEAN GREEN...good things are happening at UNT!0 points

Come watch the Mean green take on and BEAT WKY on National TV today with a Denton County Alumni Assoc. Mixer starting at 2:30PM at Fox and Hounds in Lewisville. Yes, I said BEAT WKY for a much needed road win. Not only can they do it, they WILL do it! Be with other members of the Mean Green nation today and enjoy the game. A bonus will be a short presentation starting at 2:30PM about the UNT Alumni pavilion that is currently under construction at the new stadium. It's gonna be fun! See you at Fox and Hounds today... Also, there will be mention of the newly forming Collin County Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association....and, some fun and games...you could get lucky! GO MEAN GREEN...GO ALUMNI!0 points

UNT's sections on Fanbase are really inadequate; rosters are thin and incomplete and photos are fair-to-middlin'. This could be a nice resource for Mean Green fans if we could get it up to snuff but it needs imput from knowledgeable fans. My link0 points

To be honest, I don't understand what this means: "cut Thomas Jefferson from a list of figures whose writings inspired revolutions in the late 18th century and 19th century." Does this mean students will not be studying about Thomas Jefferson? Or not learning about the Declaration of Independence and its relation to the American Revolution? I highly doubt either of these is the case. Anyway, from the rest of the article . . . I don't see any of this as related to the facts of history, but to the viewpoint with which it is approached. Obviously, if it is presented from a conservative viewpoint, liberals will disagree with it. When it's presented from a liberal viewpoint, conservatives disagree with it. Again, I'm not sure what was meant by the Jefferson thing, but I see new facts being brought up that were not apparently being addressed in history classes ("portions of history" that had previously been "deleted"?).0 points

The fact that you lived and remember it well makes your opinion less valid to me. I really don't think any President can accurately be judged till about 50 years past their term (which would just now put Kennedy on the clock) just for that reason. If you lived it, your personal opinion(read politics) become too entrenched in the debate.-1 points

It's WKU, not WKY. We're not NTU, and if there's any school in this league that deserves the respect of a properly stated name, it's Western Kentucky. Side note: WKU fan and occasional visitor Dahbeed has taken to calling MTSU "Mediocre Tennessee". I'm a fan of it and suggest we borrow the phrase when appropriate.-1 points
