John Weber sits in his living room in the Denia neighborhood of Denton, and opens a guidbook to editorial writing...he reads, and reads, and reads. Then he reaches the rule that would finally take him to the next level... Editorial Writing Rule #364: If it is impossible to gain credibility on the merits of your argument, only one viable option remains. Turn you letter into a Star Wars metaphor. John Weber: (yells triumphantly) "Yes, YEEESSS, that will do it (evil laugh). Those UNT folks will finally know that I mean business. Oh, crap." (Weber quickly becomes quiet and looks toward the TV concernedly) "Did I remember to DVR Star Trek?" (Curtains Close and Fade to Black)4 points

Because "ours" does not belong to us, thus it is not used to haul equipment. It belongs to one of the UNT Dancer Dads' and it is on loan while she is here. He did the same thing for another child at Texas. The trailer is a big lounge and has been used for college days at high schools in the area so I have been told. Our truck is actually a moving van that is loaned to us each weekend during football season by Little Guy Movers here in Denton.3 points

While reading over the article regarding Tate Forcier leaving Michigan, I thought what about UNT as an option? For heaven sakes, he is considering Montana which is a perennial 1-AA powerhouse, but Montana? I know it is just a pipe dream, but a QB with a 130 passer rating in a passing oriented offense with a solid running game could really catch some attention in one of the top five media markets in the US...2 points

I think we are going about this all wrong. A few of us should rent stormtrooper costumes and patrol the area between Denia and the stadium.2 points

Well, at least he properly references himself as "Jar Jar", universally the most hated character in the entire Star Wars saga. So, we got that going for us.1 point

I keep thinking Dallas is getting its act together, and then something like this takes place. In the name of all that is holey, what in the world possessed Caraway to do something like this? Stupid is as stupid does, and this is BIG TIME stupid. That guy is the Mayor Pro-Tem of the City (thank goodness he has said he is not running for Mayor in the next election), and he is a "leader" for the City. I cannot imagine a more stupid act to follow up all the NFL and Jerry Jones greed grab Super Bowl event. I know the Super Bowl wasn't in Dallas per se, but the nation thinks it was, and that's all that matters here for the time being. Good grief, is there some cloud over Dallas and have the aliens taken over the city leadership???? STUPID is the best thing I can say about Vick and his non-official key to the City of Dallas. Facepalms all the way around!1 point

This team is gassed and seven players doesn't seem to be working out too well any more. Rick1 point

Yup, if we only had about 10,000 just like him all of our damn problems would be well behind us by now Rick1 point

Spenerc, Williams, Odufua for a game, Know for a game, mcGee, mangurum.... I still like what I see moving forward, especially for next year. Holmen has really stepped it up and become a decent 3/4 player... not sure where he will fit next year but I finally saw some post play out of him as well as attacking the boards and making some threes. He really lights a fire under my britches!1 point

This is why I have hope. Vito mentioned every subtraction from this team save one HUGE one. Todd Dodge1 point

Appreciate the honest replys. Am i glad that JJ has raised the program to where a 16-7 record somehow seems a little disappointing? Absolutely. Like i've posted in years before, i was just hoping for that one 24-4 season where we get an #12 seed or better and have a team ready to make some real noise. Just one, pleasse. Those are lofty expectations i know but this was the year i thought that was possible. Year is definitely not over, but somehow feels a little disappointing considering it's these guys last run. Hope they can turn it around. Not the BBall fan you guys are but these losses to ULL, Troy, and Denver kill me.1 point

What, all that clean, earth friendly wind and solar energy can't keep up? Imagine that! But look on the bright side. We finally found something Jerry Jones' money can't buy: Good Weather. Rick1 point

is this not scary that JJ can not get a SR laden team to compete, what is he going to do when he has a freshman loaded team?1 point

That is soooo awesome Cassidy girl!!!! Way to go Lera and Emmitt. Very cute! Rick1 point

We did last year, but this years' team doesn't have what last years' team had.1 point

Yes, to us several times, and to most mid majors and is why the coaches even scoff at the ranking system of the pay per view recruiting entertainment business some here are trying to defend. Go back and read our history. Good coaches will find and develope good players and together will form good football teams. Rick1 point

Interesting read on the Muslim Brotherhood Call me cynical, but I just don't trust an organization that has a "small, terrorist faction," or trust an organization that was Bin Ladin's inspiration and believes that "Islam has a political role in society." Concerning.1 point

Just to clarify, that was Delon Greene, not Deloss. Good memories. I'll never forget our win over SMU at Fouts that season. Rick1 point

I picked these up at Academy on Cherry and I-30 in West Fort Worth yesterday for $6 each. They have tons of tU, a&m and tcu stuff all over the store. And then they have these for North Texas. I wish everyone here would go over to Fort Worth and buy 3 or 4 of them each and buy out the whole lot. Maybe their ordering manager might get the damn message then? Rick1 point

Anyone else excited about seeing the Shev Attack reaping havoc in our opponents' backfield next Fall? I think he will make an immediate impact with our defense and I'm looking forward to it. Rick1 point

The hilarious part about this bit of news is that it will actually come as a SURPRISE to many despite all of the hints and red flags that were posted about it here. Rick1 point

Anyone who built a defense that lost only 6 games the past two regular seasons gets my vote. Welcome Wade Phillips. Rick1 point

Holy Crap, Utah State will never enter the 4th quarter with a timeout remaining. Glad to see ex NT physics professor Dr. Rogers Redding still going strong. It was his Southwest Conference officiating crew you see all throughout the movie "Necessary Roughness". Rick1 point

Damn, what a great hire, publicity wise. Four straight bowl wins wouldn't have garnered us this much attention. When TD comes through with the wins this hire may go down as one of the all time greatest at North Texas. Rick1 point

The very fact that we now have Butch Lacroix coaching our DB's tells me we will play a more agressive style of defense forcing the opponents QB to have less time to make his reads. This should benefit the DLine. Considering we have a veteran defense returning gives me confidence that we will have a much improved defense this season. Rick1 point

What made the drive back so freaking long after this loss was that Scott Davis and company owned K State most of the day and led much of it. However, holding onto a small lead, we punted very late in the game and pinned them inside their own 5 yard line and had them in a 3rd and long with something like 1:12 left in the game. On that third down their QB throws from his endzone a prayer chunk down the right sideline which went 5 yards over the defender and recievers' heads. But both players, while looking back over their shoulders collided a bit and the K State player falls down causing the Big 8 referee to throw the flag, awarding K State a 1st down at their own 30 or so. Complete bullshit call but very typical when playing on the road as the underdog. With time running down K State dink, dink, and dinks down the sideline several times and gets to our 12 yard line. With 4 seconds left in the game their QB finds a reciever open in the back corner for the winning TD. Sickening! I laughed my ass off though watching them carry pieces of the goal post up onto campus. Pretty funny. But I was convinced then, especially after that amazing '88 season the year before, that North Texas should be playing D I rather than I-AA. Rick1 point

WW was most effective when he freelanced. The Darrel would have none of that, and considering much of what he recieved in instruction was screaming and negative criticisms from Flanigan, freelancing was about all there was left in order to move the ball, leading to him being benched most of the season. I was thinking the same thing. Didn't even know they were still recording, and don't care either. I saw the ORIGINAL group in concert after they released "Thank Heavans for Dale Evans" in 1990 before Lloyd's daughter was brought in. I thought they sounded much better and was more impressed because all the members including Laura Lynch(bass) and Robin Lynn Macie(Guitar) actually played quite well together. If you never saw the original quartet you missed a good show. As for today's standard trio, it's amazing how soon we as a nation forgets. Rick1 point

Excuse me for this please! But since I spent 80 @#$@%@! dollars on signs, then spent another $20 taxi fair and an hour and a half of my vacation in New Orleans trying to deliver them, and since another here on this board spent no telling how much having 1,000 instruction sheets printed up then having his daughters waste their vacation time in New Orleans passing them out an hour prior to the Southern Miss game, FOR NOTHING, then may I take a second to remind all how that chant was to suppose to go? My reason is that the North and Texas chant sounded great tonight, but there is more to it and by doing it the way we worked it out here on GMG.com prior to the bowl game it will have an ending instead of people wondering how many times to do it, and then it only ending in a faded hum? Between the two groups, Pit Crew and Talons, surely you folks can work this out? I believe it went like this: NORTH!....TEXAS! NORTH!.....TEXAS! LET'S! GO! MEAN! GREEN! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! I miss Chris Davis. What a great story and wonderful person. He was by far one of the top class-act represenatives for our university during his time here. I wish him all the best. Rick1 point

Per the ticket office: Students get in with ID for free and will be assigned to a specific student section during NT's games. I asked if for some reason another large student group from another school were to show, would our students have to vacate their seats? Response is that they do not anticipate this to happen but if it did our students would only have to move to a general seating section. So, as I read this, if there is a large crowd for two separate opposing teams and our students want to watch them play they would just have to relocate to a general seating section. It should be a fun time as ticket sales are picking up and a good crowd is expected. Rick1 point

Finally! The streak is over for the 6 straight 1 point losses. But it's hard to believe you can go 1-11 from the arch and still beat the #1 team in the west? This may be the one that get's this team in gear hopefully and ready for tournament time. Rick1 point

Correct me if I'm wrong, but NAIA is non scholarship, or at least it is at some schools. Tarleton was when they were NAIA. So, if PB is non scholarship, they are NAIA, DivIII, DivII and DivI...three complete levels behind us, right? So taking your list of valentines day attendances, I'm curious how many of those home games were against opponents that were 3 levels below the host? Someone said earlier we lost our attendance momentum when we lost to TCU and I think this is dead on. If we make the tournament final we can get it back. Rick1 point
-
Ticket boothes, songs played at the games(I love Fly Like An Eagle because it reminds me of our win on ESPN back in my day to qualify for the tournement) has zero bearing on why or why not people are getting out of the dorms and over to the games. Winning is what matters most to people, and who have we beaten that someone would know about? New Mexico State is all that comes to mind as a recent known name win. Losing to TCU I think hurt more than most realize. Also, what's on campus right now that tells people there is a game on regional TV this thursday night? Anything? Any signs or banners in the union? Anything? Rick1 point

Coach, how many die hard fans do you think we have? Not everyone that likes football likes basketball? I'll guess we have 3,000 die hard fans. Your idea of a die hard fan and mine may differ. But I would imagine many of those 3,000 football die hards who can show up for the bb games do? I'm guessing though but so what? That's not the problem. The problem is the same as for football. Until we win on a consistent basis and make some noise in the press people around Denton will find something else to do on game nights during the bb season. I saw much larger crowds at the SP when I was in school against far lesser known teams because our product was exciting and we were winning in conference. And if my memory serves me right two or maybe three of those seasons in the late 80's the team would start out 0-7 or something crazy like that. But there was just something that brought the crowds out once January got there because we all knew we had a chance. I'll never forget Rob Coffey's...DEION HUNNNNNTTTEEERR FOR THREEEEEEE!!!!. This arguement is rediculous. It can be made for our softball team and girls soccer as well. But I again ask those pointing(and yes, your pointing) to point to yourselves or rather our new generation of future alumni. How many road games have the current basketball student diehards been to? Very few if any. If you can't get behind your team and travel to an away game once in a while while your in school you certainly won't do it once you live away from Denton later on in life? By the way, I told NTfan23 in the chat that the blowout tonight won't even get a whisper on the local news. I watched 5 and 8 at 10 p.m. and nothing. Not even a score. Rick1 point

WIFE, I fully understood what you meant about our facilities, and I am grateful that alumni like yourself and others are coming around. Our alumni have been crapped on for years so it is a wonderful time to see some coming back again regardless of when or for what. Do what you can, where you can and when you can. Not every alumn can make all events. That's for those 10 to 15,000 students within a mile or two of campus to do. Anyone who thinks differently has a larger, personal problem than simply our attendance issues. Rick1 point
