  2. It's pretty common outside of athletics also. My wife's friends said her IQ dropped at least 20 points; 10 the moment she said yes to my proposal and another 10 when she said "I Do!" It all works out in the end.

  3. No...clearly he sucks. It wasn't that he didn't want to commit to just any player for 4 years because there was an available scholarship...rather than holding it for a quality player. He didn't use that scholarship because he's a cocky son-of-a-bitch who probably thinks wins just come by walking into a building. Look, CMJ...as a casual basketball fan whose interest waxes and wanes with success, I've raised my expectation levels unreasonably...and at the first bit of adversity I want effing blood.

  4. Appreciate the honest replys. Am i glad that JJ has raised the program to where a 16-7 record somehow seems a little disappointing? Absolutely. Like i've posted in years before, i was just hoping for that one 24-4 season where we get an #12 seed or better and have a team ready to make some real noise. Just one, pleasse. Those are lofty expectations i know but this was the year i thought that was possible. Year is definitely not over, but somehow feels a little disappointing considering it's these guys last run. Hope they can turn it around. Not the BBall fan you guys are but these losses to ULL, Troy, and Denver kill me.

  5. You keep trying to point out that this happened one time so it can/will happen again. Sure it could happen again but is that what you hope happens, not looking at the situation and trying to logicaly figure out what will probably happen. This team is not playing well and a sweep of Feb (obviously not going to happen with a loss last night) isn't likely. Defense is horrible right now and are you really expecting a run to the tournament? Based on the team's play? One and done is a bit of an overreaction but i could see us getting bounced in the semis rather easily. We certainly don't scare anybody. Drives me crazy there isn't an area between JJ sucks and worshipping the ground JJ walks on.

  6. I know this isnt the popular thing to say but TT isnt the biggest issue. Josh's man KILLED him off the dribble, penetrating at will, and then Josh gave us literally nothing on the offensive end. At least with Tristan you can hope he outduels his man. Josh has been a ghost lately. And the of course there's been "the equalizer" Knox...he's always good for a eight point swing, the wrong way.

  9. Also, getting back to the original post that started the thread... I don't like a 9 player roster, and I don't like having to play guys as long as we do. But the team that looked more "gassed" last night was FAU. Whenever we pushed the tempo, we outplayed them. I was grinding my teeth when extended foul/inbounds delays took us out of the rhythm we were establishing. I wish we would make more use of the "white press" that allowed us to pull out one or two games earlier this season where a rally couldn't have happened otherwise. Having a healthy Alzee might allow us to go to that earlier in the game when we need it.

  10. What this team needs is Madmartigan. That man had passion.

  11. There is plenty...I've many issues with JJ - minute distribution, some in game management decisions, reluctance to press in recent years with great depth, etc... But, none of that changes the fact that the man is responsible for making my favorite sport, college basketball, relevant at my beloved university...so you're damn right I sleep next to a life-sized cardboard cut out of the man...and will repeatedly defend him against moronic bits of wisdom like: "We were told be several here last fall that JJ was the best coach ever at NT, surely couldn't be him. He doesn't need all these scholarships to win." "f'n ridiculous! this frustrates me much more than football! this team has the talent (i thought), but f's it away!" "Not only does our team suck now, our SunBelt officiators are even worse. Do they get bonuses based on the number of fouls they call? " I mean, what the hell is an officiator? Nobody is denying that this team is in a bad way right now...but its as if everything that raised your expectations, 4 returning starters, senior-laden team, tournament experience, gets completely tossed out the window in favor of bitching and pessimism.

  12. We were asked by one person here last January "What if February doesn't go well?? WHAT THEN?!?!?!" And we won every game we played that month, swept the tournament, and went to the NCAA tournament. And anyone who sees this team struggling and thinks the solution would be 8-10 minutes of Colin Mangrum... Well, I love Mangrum as much as anyone... But you're wrong.

  13. Saw this on Colin Cowherd this morning, and thought we might need to do this instead of benching our key players. Western Michigan's basketball coach thought his team needed to toughen up and play better defense, so he had a football practice sot to speak: REBOUNDING WAR DRILL

  18. I've had to read board after the last few games. Last one I watched was ASU. We sure played well that game. Glad I haven't watched or listened much lately or my blood pressure would be way to high!!! The current players on this team have elevated UNT BB a lot over the past 3 to 4 years. Johnny's not going to change his coaching style or who he is...Johnny's the BOSS. The team is going to have to grow up and understand they listen to him, play defense, play to their strength's and win. If not, it's on the players on the floor. This team is the coaches team, so if there's a power struggle, Johnny Jones will win, hands down. All these seniors are leaving after this year for pro ball, at some level after the season. They're playing for their future. If they don't want to hustle, play defense, and win games, fine. Only hurting themselves. JJ's isn't going anywhere, and doesn't deserve too. The men on this team are going to have to figure out if they want to winners and known for being winners now and after they're gone. If not, not so great but acceptable. Option 2, they get off their lazy a$*ess and play some ball. Even with short bench they should be toasting most of the teams they've played of late. They should have brought their B+ to A game and won this game, but they didn't, so be it. I'm not usually the harsh, but these young men are going to have to mature and grow up and be men, and winners. Choice is there's JJ already went to the final 4, not one of them have. If they'd start playing like they belong in a game like the final 4 our team would be fine. Unfortunately FAU is playing like the class team of the Belt, and I mistakenly thought this team could do the same half asleep, but I was wrong. UNT is reading to many of the great stories written about who they could and should be, the class of the SBC. In the end that takes a lot of effort and the Men's BB team will have to decide if they're up to the task. I'd thought this team had, and was already mature enough to know, and done everything above, but looks like they have work to do. Not over yet, so it's time for the real UNT BB team is going to show up and play like they want the SBC tournament, and them March Madness. If not, here's to next year!!! Go Mean Green!!!

  20. True. All true. Two ACU Wildcats started for the Chicago Bears - Johnny Knox and Danieal Manning. Also, these two "small college" players were pretty good in the NFL for not having played "major college" ball - Jerry Rice and Walter Payton. It's all a matter of grades and tests in most cases. Kids just don't take the tests in time to have their scores back, or their scores aren't there. Doesn't mean they aren't talented. Most just aren't getting a push at home - and, there are a myriad of factors there we won't go into here.

  21. In spite of the giant WTF presented to us tonight, my buddy was into it and had a good time. He was also very receptive to going to more.

  22. From an individual standpoint TT's defense didn't look any more lackadaisical than Josh, Shannon, or Holmen. That little run we went on after TT hit the bench had nothing to do with increased intensity... it was pure panic. Once we closed it to 3 the panic was over and so was the effort.

  23. This is a great schedule! Three possible wins with Houston, Indiana, and Tulsa; only one money game at Alabama. I'd love for us to stick an FCS game in on September 3, just to get warmed up and see where we need polish before Houston hits town, but that's probably wishful thinking by now.

  26. I'm sorry but I think these Belt refs are a little foul whistle happy. I have never heard of so many fouls in one half of basketball. This is a bit ridiculous. Where do we get these high school refs?

  27. Sounds like we are getting them in early foul trouble that could help us down the road. We also have Edwards and shorter with 2, though, so we will see.

  28. Seems like we say that EVERY year?? Most, if not all, of us thought TD's first class was not that bad as well. We were impressed...thought their were "some guys under the radar" and a "sleeper or two" in that class. Go back and look at that class again...how many of those kids actually contributed anything?? Point is...we are fooling ourselves if we think this class cracks the Top 100 in the country. Let's just hope the coaches can coach the heck out of them...put them in a position to be successful...and motivate them to push themselves maybe beyond their limits.

  29. I follow the star system to a degree and I believe that they didn't do their job on several recruits. This a good class and had they been able to retain Carr and Hunt, a very good class. There are some that were underrated...Akunne, Whitfield and Stojkovic especially. Others may have lacked a little in size (but not speed). There are three or four projects in this group. They can still be three star players with time in the weight room and good coaching. They certainly have the potential. That's the key to the success of this class...good coaching. As Plumm pointed out about TCU...they didn't draft any 4 or 5* players but they sure had them when they graduated. This class may seem a little disappointing at first but I think that we've got about a dozen that can contribute this fall. I don't recall a freshman class that I could say that about. You just can't overcome six years of bad football in a single recruiting class.

  30. I don't know if we have EVER out recruited anyone on our schedule in the 25 years I have been following the Mean Green. But we have OUTCOACHED and OUTPLAYED and OUTHUSTLED and whipped our share of ass on the field and I and many others have witnessed it. Which is why I'll never understand why anyone gets worked up over the recruit rating stuff. Coaching is the key to success. Always has been and always will be. The coaches pick the talent that they know they can mold. I suggest those who are really worried about it go back and reread the bio's of this coaching staff and see that we now have one of the most battled hardened staff NT has ever had. Relax! We're gonna be fine. It' All Good and All Green! Rick

  31. Sometimes it actually does hurt people, in a financial sort of way to have someone steal, intellectual property. At the "think tank" our authors actually do quite a bit of work in the area of intellectual property and intellectual property rights. You just might be amazed at what the financial impact is when it comes to "pirating" anything. It is starting to cause some serious damage to some very big industries and has led to lay-offs, reduced incomes, etc. This really is a big issue and one that faces the economies of the entire world. I don't know about the site in question, but if, indeed, it is a pirated site, one probably ought not bother with it. Or not........

  35. This is a Midwestern State/Tarelton/SE Oklahoma type of kid. If he's dead set on FBS, then let him walk on here. But no 6'0" D-lineman from class 2A anymore here on scholarship. Times have changed here.

  41. How long until football? At least we will all save a lot of money in Hot Springs this year. I think it's one and done. Whatever spark or cohesiveness this team might have had is gone. Must be some descension or turmoil going on behind the scenes. Either that or our guys had the flu. That was some ugly looking basketball last night on the part of UNT.

  44. Green Doser...you're not new. LOL, on the JJ has to win theme. A little old school. For one I'm sure glad RV and everyone here gave JJ the time he needed. Doesn't always work out, but our current recruiting class with addition of Tony Mitchell is "All World" All I can say about FAU is we need a win! If other belt teams are beating us a home then here's to turn about being fair play. Last home game for us we very impressive!!!. Sounded Like Hogan and the men were getting a little ahead of themselves based on TM thread at Rec.. I'm Johnny is resting team or running them hard depending on what he believe will motivate them to playing BB to their potential. Now it up to the players and how they produce on the floor. If UNT is the team I believe they are then we'll be starting a conference win streak. If not, SBC tournament underdog!!!! Cold weather and FAU travel maybe an advantage for us.
