  1. When they hired this guy, they said he was an "ace recruiter" but damn, this guy is exceeding all expectations. He's picking guys off from BCS-AQ schools like it's nothing. I am certainly glad he's a part of the Mean Green Coaching Staff.

  8. One of those is a game that we absolutely must win if we want any shot at it, and it is probably the toughest game left on our schedule. We basically need to win out at this point. Denver who is sitting on 1 loss has 5 away and 3 at home counting us. They are likely to lose 2 of those other 4 on the road (UALR, ASU, Troy, and ULL). That would put them on 4 losses, assuming we beat them at home as well. If we hold home court, we can give FAU loss #2 on Thursday. If Denver does what they do at home, they will give FAU loss #3. FAU also has two games with FIU left, which if they split would put FAU on 4 losses. If we won @WKU, they would have 5 losses, and if we don't lose again would be out of the picture. All of that is speculation, probably made no sense, and is highly unlikely to come to fruition, but it made me feel better to get it out.

  12. Yep, those basketball only schools in Denver and Seattle really make up for the few negatives that exist...Being in a conference with an FCS school, another that is yet to play their first down of football, and a third that just restarted their program would certainly add instant credibiity and prestige to North Texas... Not to mention the honor of being in a conference with the "Harvard of the South" Louisiana Tech.

  13. A great book that talks about the brotherhood and their influence on society(as well as general islamic society) is Infedel by Ayan Hirsi Ali. It is an autobiographical book on her experience growing up in Somolia, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Kenya, then Germany, and Netherlands. Quite an interesting book.

  14. I'm getting so sick and tired of seeing us losing these games on the road that we should be winning. This team is better then the way that they're playing. It makes me sick that we can't win a freaking conference game on the road. If we don't fix this now, then we're screwed come conference tourney time. There should be no excuses for this team. None at all. Too much senior leadership and of course, talent, for this season to be thrown away. GET IT TOGETHER NORTH TEXAS

  15. Given the way the schedules lay out, I wouldn't be shocked to see WKU make a charge for the East and/or the #1 overall seed either. They have a lot of home games coming up.

  16. Believe it or not, with how the schedules are, we are still a contender for the west, and the conference title, we just have to take care of business on our end.

  17. Its amazing how you can beat LSU on the road by 20 and then can't beat anyone on the road in league play. We have 5 seniors and cant beat the sun belt bottom feeders on the road. I could see us having road troubles if we had 5 freshmen, it just doesnt make any sense. I think a lot of this just proves how bad our non conference schedule really was. All we can hope for now is that we get hot at the end of the season and run the table in conf tourney. If we do that we can now look at another 15 seed and 14th at the best. But right now it doesnt look like we have to worry about that. This was supposed to be the best team in school history, now it feels like we have more people that are more excited about next year rather than this year. I just hope Johnny can right the ship and get these guys back in order. This has been a very disappointing conference season thus far.

  18. Well, at least Denver doesn't have any fans, so there won't be a thread started on the SBC message board about how they slayed a giant tonight... Let's hope we get back on track Thursday. FAU may be coming off a loss as well. Go Mean Green.

  19. I am really tiring of these Sunbelt games and refs/whistles... I was watching a Big 10 game today and it was so nice... minimal interference from the refs.. you can actually get a flow to the game when there isn't so many whistles... The ULL road game was outrageous...

  22. Interesting story about how the front page coverage happened. One of my fraternity brothers did all the print media buying for Sanger Harris. He called the powers that be at the Times Herald and 'suggeted' that the win make the front page. Since Sanger Harris was one of the biggest accounts that the Times Herald had, the rest is history. See, alumni can influence the media if they have a big enough stick.

  25. It's easier now that we have an equal commitment from UNT. I've wanted to wear UNT gear in public, to work, etc. forever, but it just wasn't worth the agony. It wasn't so much ridicule, as it was the questions/comments like, "Don't you guys have that high school coach?", "Ya'll are Division II, right?", etc. The facilities will be a BIG help in this area. I expect to get more comments like, "Yeah, I drove through Denton a few weeks ago and man that stadjum looks great!" Andi if not, I can still say to those who question our status with, "Have you seen the new stadjum?". Bottom line though, is W-Ls. If coach Mac gets us winning again, along with the other positives, it'll be tons easier to chat up UNT.

  27. The funny thing is that with all of the facilities we have now that are high quality for athletics, the location of our school, and the number of UNT students and alumni, you would think that conferences like the MWC or CUSA would want us in their league because they could see how we would bring to the table if we were to start playing teams people know of each week. I have never understood why another conference's leadership couldn't see all of this potential. If we draw decently against Sun Belt teams, it seems like the MWC would drool over the idea of having this growing program get an energy boost by playing some of those schools in their conference, especially over all of the other competitors for the supposed 12th spot. Sure, winning brings more consideration, but it would seem that attendance and ratings would bring even more consideration from a conference standpoint. I can understand CUSA not wanitng us because of the influence from the other schools in the conference, but the MWC has no members to "block" us. San Jose State or New Mexico State don't even come close to having the eyeballs to surpass what we offer. I really believe that it will take a Craig Thompson-type that will have to just go by faith in what we can be and take us in. It is very frustrating to know that you are stuck in a conference that you would gladly jump out of, but the other conferences around you act as if you aren't really there (notable exception: The Weak Ass Conference). Its just hard for me to believe that it is only about winning for us to get consideration. Hell, 24K showed up for a game between UNT and Rice at a toilet of a stadium, which matched two of the worst teams in college football last year, just because people in the Metroplex have heard of Rice. Same thing happened when SMU or Tulsa came to town, as it did when Army or Navy came here. Why other conferences don't consider this when looking at us just bewilders me. I refuse to believe that it is due to a lack of communication between our school's leadership and those other conferences, especially since RV has made it clear for years that we would always be ready to move upward from the SBC. It just doesn't make sense to me.

  28. There are climate changes all over the world. Some places get hotter and some places get colder. It's always been that way and it always will be. What disturbs me is that some say that the cause is manmade. We put less CO2 in the atmosphere than we did 75 years ago. Furthermore, we can't afford to spend trillions to maybe reduce the output of carbon dioxide by maybe 2%. Especially when countries such as China and Russia are doing little or nothing to reduce pollutants. We've already closed many of our factories and greatly reduced exhaust fumes by going to unleaded gas. There are also many noted meterologists that say global warming is bunk but they are no longer getting research dollars so they're comments are squashed. This crap is all about money.

  31. Well, there was really no reason for you to have to justify why you don't contribute or to tell us all when it is that you might. I get it, and none of my posts are ever aimed at those who truly feel they cannot give at this time. You are not, believe it or not, the only person to have ever been in the situation that you are in financially. In fact, I dare say the vast majority of us on the board, myself included, have been in your situation. If you tire of it, understand it is not directed at you, but more to those who can give and choose not to do so. That is also their right, but, hopefully, they will change their minds and start to give a little back. Giving is a "learned" activity. Many people who live at or near the poverty level still give to the causes they see as important. They may not give money...or much of it, but they give of their talent and time. I happen to have been taught very early by my parents that I have a duty to others to give back, and I just found ways to do so and made the choices that, for me, were right regarding giving. My parents set the example for me and saw that I learned by their example. At the time, I wasn't real excited about giving back part of the money I earned around the house and at odd jobs and part-time employment as I grew up...but, the habit had been formed, and I guess it continues to this day. So, no offense, but no one here has ever "discounted" you...if you feel you have been discounted, it is of your own doing, it's not my doing or anyone else's as I don't think I have ever...EVER posted anything other than along the lines that people should do what they can...however large or small that amount might be....and only if they can. Your priorities are your priorities...there is no value judgment assigned...never has been...everyone gets to set their own. I have always respected that and never posted anything to the contrary. You set 'em...you own 'em. No need to have to justify why or what you do. Good luck and God speed with your priorities. They seem like good ones to me. GO MEAN GREEN!

  36. Egypt's unemployment hover's around 20%....probably more....rising food prices & about 40% or so of their population lives on about $2.00/day. Look at the high unemployment and protest/riots in Greece last year. Look at the high unemployment in Portugal and Spain. These countries including our own are experiencing high unemployment, runaway debt and rising fuel and food prices. I would say that food prices in the United States, alone, over the last two years have increased 15-20 percent or more. What we are seeing here is about to come to America IF the current administration does not begin major cuts in spending across the board including entitlements and foreign aide. If you want to read what the US press is not reporting I would suggest you go world-newspapers.com and pick some European country of your choice (for the most part they are all in the English language)and start reading. Is this an Islamic overthrow of the Egyptian government? no. Do I think there are some radical Islamists behind some of the rioting? sure. Do I think that other countries are egging on some of the aggitation? sure. Do we get any of our oil from Egypt? no and if we do it ain't much. But, the Suez Canal is vitally important to the transport of Middle Eastern oil in time and money. Look at Tunisa....same situation as in Egypt.

  41. To me it sounds like it but you never know its just hs kids talking, you wont know until he signs the papers. One can just hope for now From what I know about Jarion is that his grades arnt up to par with the other schools. Unt is on his list, Shawn has been talking to him and Jordan the whole time. Jarion was at the Tech game with Jordan and was really impressed with the program. He said that USC was his top program and has been wanting to play their since he was a kid. Honestly, I really think Jarion wants to come here, he gets to play with 2 other DCISD kids, ones his teammate. Coaches that have been wanting him for a while and a program that they can take over the edge. He could look at this team as a early Gonzaga with Adam Morrison, or Davidson with Stephen Curry. This type of recruiting class will forever change North Texas Basketball.

  43. I didn't say that at all, but if it helps you sleep better at night more power to ya. Sadly many on these boards act as if nothing is going on, and its all political hogwash. As if that many climate scientists could magically be bought or confused about their lifelong professions. If a proven engineer told you tomorrow that a bridge by your home was on the verge of collapse I could guarantee you and anyone else would find a new way home. It seems that climate scientists and NFL coaches are the only professions where its ok to 2nd guess them. C'mon dude, this is exactly what I'm freaking talking about. You want to argue that climate change isn't man-made, knock yourself the heck out. But don't come around making silly assumptions like this.
