  1. Thanks to the Ath. Dept........this year's football banquet was pure d greatness. And those of us that were there.....got to see Coach Mc work his magic. What a great, great motivator he is. He had the whole crowd fired up. Congrats to all the players who made it special, as well. GMG!

  4. pretty sure the 3 bruthas on that team had their 'brutha-cards' pulled after that photo went out. i'd say they had their 'hood-passes' cancelled as well but i doubt they ever had one. the rest of those future congressmen and senators push the hetero limits for sure.....i could easily see one patting a foot in an airport restroom.

  5. The man was a negative a-hole and went out in a classless manner, but I had fun going to the games while I was in school and WE WON AND WENT TO BOWL GAMES! We beat Tech, Baylor, Cinnci, SMU, and 26 conference games straight. During that I couldn't have cared less that the guy was a jerk. Doesn't the fact that that stretch was one of the winningest times in school history buy the man's reputation some slack? Especially considering that it was followed by perhaps the worst stretch in the history of the program.

  7. SUMG, Where will the parking be? Will there be any difference between Priority Parking at the $250 level compared to the $500 level? Or are they waiting to see how many people join before they decide that? Basically what I would like to know is - Could priority parking simply be parking at Fouts (across the highway)? These are the questions that I need answered before deciding on any commitment level. By the way - if I was a restaurant in Denton (Pourhouse, Hooyah, etc..) - I would be running a party bus to and from the stadium just like they (Hooters, Hoffbrau, On The Border) do at the Mavs games from the West End. You get all the customers' business before the game and all their business after the game as well. Before the game people are pumped up and after they will drink to celebrate or drink to be sad - one thing is for sure, they will be hungry after the game. The restaurant/bar provides the parking and gets a ton of business in return. There is some free business advice for you Green Nightmare, pass it along

  10. Jamario got married last Saturday to a wondeful young lady name Heather. She is a former UNT softball player. Chad Rose was his best man and Brandon Monroe was a groomsman. There were numerous former UNT softball players there as well. The ceremony was beautiful.

  11. I cannot remember exactly how it was said last night, but Coach McCarney alluded to the fact that North Texas is a "sleeping giant". I have been in Denton since 1972, and I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have heard this. I have even heard the same thing was said in the 60's. For the most part, it was directed at the football program. I know a lot of us are tired of hearing the "sleeping giant" bit, but at least there is real thunder this time, and it is time North Texas caught some lightning in the bottle. I could not help think last night that the athletic department and football staff had better get things right this time with the decisions that have been made the last few months. McCarney is right, there are no excuses! If anything, they can look out their window and see about 70 million reasons to FINALLY get this thing on track, heading in the right direction, and staying there. I do not think that there can be another person (new coach or athletic director) stand at a podium in the near future, and say what a "sleeping giant" this program is and do so with any credibility, and have the support (yes, there is a lot of room for improvement) that we do right now. If there is a change in say the coach or AD positions, it had better be that one is leaving for a better job, has brought the program as far as he can and change is needed, etc. But it cannot be because the overall program, mostly football, is not having success and has jumped off track. This may very well be the last stand! *Note: Please don't read into "last stand" comment as it is going to die as that is not what I mean. What I mean is that it had better become a program that is perceived as being relevant in college football or we will make the naysayers right.

  18. Here's UNT's won/loss record currently and for past couple years at this point in the season. 2010-2011 15-4 2009-2010 12-7 2008-2009 12-7 2007-2008 12-6 Hope my numbers are correct. UNT is having the best season it's had in several years, so lets not rain on UNT's parade yet. Go Mean Green!!!

  24. What is up with Vito lovin on Dickey's junk? He is right about one thing, Dodge didn't come close to doing what Dickey did. Dodge left with class, Dickey was a jerk. Also, I think Troy or FIU could win 26 straight in the Southland Conference.

  29. Hate to break it to you, but I didn't give you a minus 1 if that is really a concern. I would never give anyone a negative because of a difference of opinion. You think he drives to the basket to force a shot, I think he does that most often because the offense is stagnant and he is trying to get something going. Bottom line, it results in great plays occasionally and looks very bad at other times. I do not think he averages any where close to 3-5 bad plays a game although that would be obviously based on the criteria used. As much as he handles the ball, he is going to have turnovers and bad decisions but again to me he is an ultimate team player.

  30. While this game is the start of a huge 6 game stretch...and then an even bigger 10 game stretch, one should also note that this game is the end of huge 7, 2 and 1 game stretches. Not to overstate things, but this could very well be the biggest game in the history of Western (division) Civilization. Really, if JJ doesn't win this game, he should be forced to play Santa in Denver's 2011 Christmas Card.

  32. Parking priorty privileges will mean much more...at the new stadium. I would think that anyone who is in the Mean Green Club would have a pretty decent shot at a parking spot on the new stadium side of I-35. All of the Victory Hall spots will be available for game day parking, from what I understand. Plus, they are adding 400 more spots there. There are parking spots closer to the stadium for the suite and club seat people. So I would think that being in the MGC would give someone at least a pretty good shot at parking on the stadium side of Fouts. And if anyone is interested in joining the Mean Green Club.....numerous ones on this board are Mean Green Club reps. So you can PM me.....or any of the others on here who are Mean Green Club reps. I will be glad to get a MGC membership form out to you...and try to answer your questions.

  33. Revisting this topic to see where the O and D ended up this year: Defense gave up 27 points to Sunbelt teams in 2010 season. Down from 39 in 2009. For the season, the D gave up 29.6 per game. Very nice progress IMO, but still not good enough to win these games consistently. Mac alluded to this the first week he was hired. Offense, severely crippled at QB for most of the season (unfortunately almost literally) produced 24 ppg against the Belt, or a touchdown less per game than 2009. For the season, the O scored 25.6 ppg. I think it is a credit to the team and coaches that they had as much success offensively as they did. What will be interesting and bear watching (again) in 2011 is the continued improvement to the defense and special teams, what kind of emphasis is put on them, and how the offense will shake out with yet another change at QB, as anyone who plays will be relatively "new".

  34. Any crowd of exactly 4150 or above, and we will move into second place in overall Sun Belt attendance, passing MTSU. If we keep the good crowds going we may even be able to catch WKU. The students on here (me included) need to spread the word about the game, especially the guys in fraternities so we can get some large groups into the pit.

  38. This is what the bracket would look like if the Tourney started today. We are basically 1/3 of the way through the conference slate, so I don't think it is too early to see how things are starting to shape up. Thankfully there are still 10/11 games left depending on the team, and all this can mix up a bit, because right now this is pretty much (in my opinion) the worst case scenario for North Texas. 1. Not getting a bye, 2. playing a potentially dangerous WKU team in the first round, and 3. playing FIU in the quarterfinal... All of this can start to turn around though with a win @ Monroe tomorrow night. For those who are curious, if the women's tourney started today, North Texas (2-4) would play South Alabama (3-3) in Round 1, with Denver (3-2) waiting for the winner in the quarterfinal.

  41. If we don't get a bid to move up in the conference world, then we need to do whatever keeps us in a league with Western Kentucky. They are the only program with legitimate expectations of success and the support to see it through. They strive for excellence, not presence and adequacy, and having them as a stalking horse is invaluable. Either we match their program's commitment and improve, or at least we'll be losing to a school that actually does athletics right. If WKU is in the Belt, we should stay in the Belt. If they go elsewhere, we should try to stick with them. Unless we get to move up, we need to align ourselves with schools that actually give a damn and put forth the effort and resources to succeed. Geography is less important to me (assuming we're not flying to Alaska or Hawaii to play water polo) than administrative competence and alumni support/expectations. 1) MWC 2) C-USA 3) Stick with WKU and challenge each other to new heights

  42. It's especially unfortunate for us as we are just beginning our ascent from the bottom-feeders of the FBS. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Our federal government is in such deep caca that we are in serious danger of no longer being the universal currency. When our money is no longer accepted because of our huge debt it will create either runaway inflation or a deep depression, depending on how we choose to deal with it. Either will cause a drop in student enrollment because the money just won't be there for the student loans. Moreover, federal government spending usually forces the states to pay for it so that they have to cut their own expenditures to pay for federal demands. One of the easiest ways to do that is to cut college-level spending. I appreciate that Lane Rawlins accepted the permanent presidency of UNT knowing that funding was going to be cut and our need to cover increasing expenditures for research and athletics. But, it could be worse. Next year tuition, books, room and board at SMU will be a whopping $52,000.

  43. some of the states,[not all of them,] allocate state funds for construction of athletic facalities. i know new mexico does, but don't know which do in the belt. makes a big difference if you don't need a construction campaign. also, we only average 3,000 in basketball for a team that has been to ncaa's twice in past 4 years. i doubt you would average 300 for a start-up baseball program. what does uta averge?

  44. I don't think there's anyone who expressed concern in this thread that hasn't also couched it in faith and confidence in the coaches who built this thing into what it is now. For every comment about how this guy seems like a reach or a question mark... There's another one saying that there must be some reason that our guys want him early. If JJ and the guys want this guy, and want him enough to put forth the time and effort (and scholarship) to land him for early signing period, then I hope they get him. But I'm probably going to stay skeptical until I see him play and get convinced in person.

  46. I don't mean this as a shot at you, so please don't think this is a response directed at you personally. I'm less than thrilled with us pursuing a JUCO 6th man for a roster that will return 5 scholarship players next year. Either this guy is way better than the rest of the world thought and seems to still think, or we're really trying to pad our early signing class to ease the recruiting burden through the season. Because this is the exact sort of player a school with our recent history and available 2011 minutes can usually dig up almost anywhere.

  47. Also playing for Casper is a 6'7" or 6'8" SF named Michael Dietz. Wyoming's Mr Basketball coming out of high school, committed to Wyoming but left for personal reasons 3 days into the semester. Averaged 17 ppg and 7 rebounds with 2 blocks per game as a senior on a one-loss state championship team. ESPN gave him a grade of 82. I just can't figure out why we're going after what seems to be the 4th or 5th most appealing prospect from last year's roster at a Wyoming JUCO consisting of a bunch of 2 stars and unevaluated prospects. Volume shooting 2 guards who aren't much over 6' tall aren't exactly a scarcity in the JUCO ranks. There has to be some reason we're on top of this one so early in the season, right?

  48. The 2 scorers who led the team left after last season. Top scorer at Casper went to Utah, 2nd leading scorer inked with Montana.

  49. Let's just say that if you're excited about the prospect of potentially landing a kid who was a 6' shooting guard and didn't even get a full evaluation by ESPN (no 2009 Rivals listing at all) out of his L.A./Compton high school, and who has since gone on to be the 3rd leading scorer at his Wyoming JUCO... This new target will thrill you. At least he's grown to 6'2", according to his listing. Perhaps he's a diamond in the rough, and we're finding someone that's under the radar. And maybe he'll look better this year when he's not playing so much point guard. If JJ and the guys want him, then I'll try to stay optimistic.
