I specifically remember beating him in a drinking game, flashing my 2004 conference ring and saying you'll never win one of these. I was drunk and an A-Hole, but I was right. Thanks for letting me win again state champ.6 points

Are you saying you want people to quit talking about this? Sounds like quitter talk to me, sir.5 points

If you've never come to the signing date event, that is open to the public....it is great. Coach Mc will show videos of all the players that we've signed. He will talk about each individual recruit, as well. It's also a great place to meet and get to know the coaches. In past years....the entire coaching staff has been there. This year, the event will be at a banquet room at the new Holiday Inn and Suites. I've been told that this room will accomodate 300. There will be hors d'oeuvres ....and a cash bar. The start time hasn't been settled on....but will probably be somewhere in the 6-6:30 range. Will update more as it gets closer. I highly recommend this event.4 points

What is the kid supposed to say midseason when his Dad is fired? Tell everyone you are out at the end of the year? No. I guess he could have used the old "I'm just concentrating on the remaining games of this season before I think about next year" quote, but that is basically saying you are out of town at the end of the season. For those of you that thought he would stay here after his dad was let go (really the only reason he came to UNT), weren't you just a little naive? The moment Dad was fired, Riley knew he wouldn't be back, but he also knew he had a team to lead. The kid did what he should have done under those circumstances. This should be a dead subject, as he is now a McNeese Cowboy and will not graduate from UNT. Why don't we all just move on without calling him a quitter?3 points

Mark, I keep looking outside to see what color the sky is because I keep agreeing with you...and no more so than in this situation. Let me remind everyone, WE HAVE HAD MANY PLAYERS TRANSFER TO NORTH TEXAS THROUGH THE DECADES AND WE NEVER THOUGHT TO CALL THEM QUITTERS. As I've pointed out many times Jordan Case, one of our great all-time QB's and one of movers and shakers on the Stadium committee was a TRANSFER from Sul Ross University. Anyone going to go to the banquet this Friday and look him up, and then call him a quitter? Julian Herron is currently on our roster and is a transfer from SMU. Are some of you going to go up to him after the games this year and say "nice game....not bad for a quitter". Alex Lott was a regular contributer to our football team these last few years. And he was a TRANSFER from Texas Lutheran. Anyone want to call him a quitter? Have we just totally lost our ability to think logically? geezzzz.3 points

I have absolutely no problems with this article or the quote from Riley. I do believe he did give 100% every time he took the field and it is no secret that some people just don't care. The young man is only telling the truth from his perspective and relaying what his thoughts are regarding his decision. I would imagine that any D-1 QB in the country could say the same thing at times during their careers whether they elected to stay at one school or transfer. The idea that some people would stoop to the childish level of calling him a quitter says more about the people calling him names than it does this young man. It is exactly correct in thinking those people do not matter to him one iota. I do think it is time to move along. Coach Dodge and Riley will neither be part of the 2011 edition of the Mean Green. Best to wish them both well and move on to supporting those who will be part of the Mean Green's success in 2011. GO MEAN GREEN...too many good things happening for the Mean Green these days to focus on "what might have been".3 points

Thats a pretty good question. Maybe we can get a math major to bust out some calculus on that, but I think that would equal not quitting (i.e. doing what you said you would do). We started with Riley: quitting = stop doing something you committed to do however, if RIley: quit quitting = quit stop doing something you committed to do I think we can cancel some things on both sides of the equation, to get: quit quitting = quit stop doing something you committed to do so you are left with = doing something you committed to do I think it works out nicely. Riley no longer is no longer called a quitter, he gets to play for the Mean Green, gets a better degree. Everyone wins.3 points

But if Riley decided not to transfer, and therefore quit quitting, wouldn't he still be a quitter by quitting to quit?3 points

according to Vito's latest blog entry, Andrew Power should be enrolled at North Texas. This would be a HUGE pickup. Originally committed to Tennessee in June/July.2 points

And, unfortunately some athletes do that to colleges to whom they have committed as they wait on "bigger and better" schools to offer. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...that stuff just seems bad on both parties parts. We talk about "honoring commitments" in one thread, but it seems to me "commitment" is a pretty weak word when it comes to recruiting. In this particular case, it worked out well for the Mean Green (and more than likely for young Mr. Power as well), but I hate this sort of thing. There was a time (and not that long ago when a person's word was his bond. Welcome to UNT Andrew Power. The Mean Green Nation is very happy to have you be a part of the Mean green. I think you will be very happy that you are part of the Mean Green. And, remember, the co-eds are prettier and smarter here than at Tennessee too!2 points

Thanks for the info! Looks like a great athlete. That's a huge bench for a guy his size and not a bad 40 time. Could be an awesome safety.2 points

All they have to do is read him his quote where he said he was as committed as ever before. I don't fault him for leaving, but he is the one who made the intial "This is where I want to be" statement.2 points

Sorry emmitt. I know you have difficulty embracing this, but it is news considering the story is about him choosing to leave North Texas. Continue with your fast food sightings.2 points

Troy of 2010-11 is just like Troy of 2007-08. A hot night makes them competitive and dangerous, a cold shooting night makes them an absolute pushover. Denver is 5-0 and on their way to 9-7. Save the quote, sig it, do whatever... If Denver finishes Sun Belt play with double digit wins, even given the head start they have... I'll be very surprised. As for our potential seed if we advance to the NCAAs... I still believe we would have been a 14 seed last year if the OKC bracket hadn't included a 15 seed line. If we match last year's record, we'll get the 14 we should have had last season. We're ahead of where we were last year, both in conference and overall. Until we fall off that pace, I'm not going to start inspecting the sky for cracks.2 points

I was sad to see the A-1 Thick and Hearty Burger leave Whataburger. As far as good burgers go, I felt like it at least had another couple years of eligibility. Fan feedback has been mixed between folks wishing the burger luck in future endeavors and those that are ready to stop hearing about Thick and Hearty (labeling it a "quitter") and are ready to move on. I for one say:2 points

Who have we beaten this year? Texas Tech is proving to be mediocre to poor and LSU is a total disaster, and we claim these are our two biggest wins. I love this team and think it has the potential to go back to the tournament, but I am concerned that we really haven't beaten anyone that would be considered very good this year. Thoughts?1 point

I'm thinking that Drew Miller is another that might do better at linebacker. That's his preferred position and he played it well in the Oil Bowl. A question is that we know that Power can play TE but can he also play at the U-Back/H-Back? Or does a smaller TE play that position?1 point

Second. I think this signing gives the staff the luxury of moving players back to where they can be most beneficial...namely Daniel Prior. I'd imagine Power slides in as the starter immediately...Olawale is a talent, but perhaps a bit under-sized to be a hand on the ground TE, but could find plenty of time in a sort of Dallas Clark-esque role. Greg Brown back healthy, continued development from Drew Miller and perhaps the arrival of Austin Fitzpatrick would give 5 good options for 2 similar, not-every-down positions. More than enough to re-work Prior back into the LB mix1 point

As far as Who have we beat? Who have we lost to? Baylor has Kansas at home in front of a sellout crowd. They're losing by 21 points at halftime. Two potential 1st round NBA draft picks, including a possible #1 overall... Sellout crowd, etc. And they were 12 points worse at the half than we were playing Kansas at Kansas. I don't know if Baylor ends up losing by 33, but 21 down at the half for an Elite 8 team that has more talent than last year... Wow.1 point

Clearly their regual attendance counter got the night off. I was sitting in a bar last night watching the Jets/Pats game. It was apparently SMU bid night and a few SMU kids were sitting in the next booth talking. I hear one of them say "Did you know we beat Memphis?" I turned to them and said "Memphis isn't that great anymore, not since Calipari left and their talent went to the NBA" The guy looks at me and says "Who's Calipari? What position did he play?"1 point

The ONLY reason TX ST and UTSA are joining the WAC is because that is the ONLY chance they have to move to FBS ball. The ONLY reason the WAC is inviting them is because it would cease to be a conference without them. They are losing bowls rapidly. Even according to their commissioner, their TV contract will pay LESS than the SBCs contract. San Jose State is STILL faced with the state of California potentially insisting they drop football - according to new Governor Jerry Brown ALL options are on the table and SUBSTANTIAL and PAINFUL cuts will be made. Then there is the proven problem of no publicity because of the late game times. There is a reason that every school that CAN get out of the WAC has. USU and San Jose State both have tried and will continue to try.1 point

Yep, if you recall, the sky was falling last year when we dropped an early season game at home to FIU. Then look what happened.1 point

That's the number I was told. I guess we know McNulty (QB from Iowa) and Donnovon Young (RB from Houston, who has verbaled to Illinois) are two of the 15. Hopefully some D linemen are visiting. Maybe some more names will surface.1 point

I can tell you that the staff knows who Trint Jenkins is...or at least they should. They got an updated film on him the first of the week. He has all of the skill needed to compete at this level...no doubt. As far as DL...I know that they have offered Rakeem Knight. He is an unknown to most...but isnt to the recruiters at point. A huge number of FCS schools have offered along with UNT. Oklahoma State is very interested...and Arkansas has 2 coaches flying to Birmingham this morning to see him before the dead period.
