  1. Good timing for my daughter to have a dead battery on her car, after replacing her battery I asked her to take me up to the AC so I could view the progress of the stadium. We arrived at the AC around 12:30 this afternoon and there were a slew of recruits (with their families) touring the facilities. For those of you with an interest in lineman there were some big dudes in the group (no telling if they were offensive or defensive). In fact, I heard Coach Mac ask one of the guys leaving the training room, "how did you weigh out?" and the kid replied, "275lbs". He was around 6"3. Even with all the activity, Coach Mac took 3-4 minutes to chat with my daughter about the upcoming soccer season. In the 5-10 minutes of watching the recruits and their families they really seemed impressed with the facilities - lots of smiles. After seeing recruits in person on campus, I'm confident it won't be long until we hear about more commitments.

  4. Yeah, I was looking at his almost non-existent stats a few days ago and was thinking that maybe we didn't lose quiteas much as I had thought. Looks like they are starting to give him more minutes and he is responding. Too bad he left us thin. Kinda like the Riley situation with all the injuries, except that we gave him a free ride for 4 years instead of 3.

  6. I'm just trying to not be verbose. Like most of you, I want to see UNT porogress academically and athletically. Now that Fouts is behind us the single biggest liability that we have is conference affiliation. We're judged by the company we keep. Live green!

  7. UTSA and TSSM will be low end competition but I doubt anyone in NT athletics is that concerned. If NT staff don't have their sights a lot higher, they need to move on. I don't think every member of the Southland needs to move up, but it is looking more and more likely. Ether school may prove to be serious competition at some point, but it is more likely that they are going to go through a long tough growing processbefore they are a significant factor.

  12. Link To UNT Series Total= 37 Wins and 48 Losses Ark State - 8 Wins and 12 Losses Florida Atlantic- 1 Win and 6 Losses Florida Intl.- 2 Wins and 4 Losses ULL- 8 Wins and 7 Losses ULM- 7 Wins and 8 Losses MTSU- 6 Wins and 4 Losses Troy St.- 1 Win and 7 Losses WKU- 4 Wins and 0 Losses DMac and Company have some work ahead of them to make up for the last 5 yrs...this much is certain. Troy and FAU are our worst series and one could argue that both schools have always had more a more able coaching staff than we in the last decade. The tables have now turned and it will be great to see us either close that ratio or move with a fresh start to a new conference. Other series of interest: BYU- 2 Wins and 3 Losses Boise State- 3 Wins and 2 Losses Cincy- 9 Wins and 7 Losses Colo. St.- 2 Wins and 1 Loss HOUSTON- 7 Wins and 5 Losses La Tech- 4 Wins and 2 Losses Louisville- 10 Wins and 7 Losses NM St.- 22 Wins and 9 Losses SMU- 4 Wins and 28 Losses TCU- 1 Win and 17 Losses Texas Tech- 4 Wins and 4 Losses Southern Miss- 3 Wins and 4 Losses UTEP- 13 Wins and 5 Losses ....wish I could have known that when some juiced up UTEP ex-Football player was being a loudmouth a couple weeks ago bashing UNT and saying they haven't ever won in football. The good news is that when we look at some of the OOC games above we used to compete and in some cases dominate teams that are currently considered better than us. This gives me optimism that if those schools have bettered their programs and team records that there is ZERO reason why we can't either. First step into doing so was bringing on DMac. The bad news is that in potential conference changes that one will need to look past our current Sunbelt record to see that this team has been a very competitive one in the past and will strive (at all costs) to be so once again. Tulsa- 6 Wins and 16 Losses Rice- 1 Win and 2 Losses (very easily could have been a 2-1 series) Tulane- I see no record on there of us having played them

  14. I wouldn't want to speculate as to the circumstances of hypothetical people in this situation... But it may go beyond hen-pecked and into the realm of potential murder. If said individual's fiancee had already been kind enough to schedule the wedding around the Sun Belt basketball tournament... Which she was going to attend in a house full of 15-16 other people, most of whom she doesn't really know... AND she had to deal with one night every week being stolen away by basketball for podcast stuff... AND she spent 5 months every year getting annoyed with constant requests to check Sun Belt scores on her phone... AND she attended 20+ games per year, all with a smile on her face and sincere enthusiasm... If this hypothetical guy were to turn to his future wife, after 6 months of basketball neglect was finally assumed to be over, and just a week or two before their wedding (which he's spent about 5% as much time thinking about and working on as he has their Hot Springs trip) tell her that he's skipping out on the weekend for something related to North Texas and basketball... Well, this hypothetical guy likely wouldn't just not be getting married- he may not survive to see next basketball season. Don't worry about him being whipped... Worry about him getting shot.

  15. Since NT is ranked in the top 10 of the mid major basketball poll, I am wondering why the athletic department is ignoring the ranking? I have not heard or read any reference to the poll from NT officials. It's like they are embarrassed to be a part of the phrase 'mid major.' Any thoughts?

  19. You are always rather quiet on this board until a chance to voice an opinion against the belt. I'm not saying it's a bad position, it's certainly defensible. I just question the agenda with such a disproportionate # of posts against the belt. Have any more opinions on other topics? Perhaps elaborations to your normally 1 line replies to moving from the belt?

  22. If that's all it was, do you really think Boise State would have joined? Getting an invite into a conference of the caliber of the MWC or CUSA is the good thing we're hoping to happen. Would you turn down a MWC invite in the hopes a CUSA invite might happen down the road? I wouldn't.

  23. Funny to see a TCU fan throwing stones about the quality of a stadium...and remind me again why half this board was congratulating them and calling for a co-championship? Another few years of success and their douchebaggery will be much more than SMU's.

  24. I believe that the NCAA probably gave him his 6th year because of his chance to play a the next level. UofH is not that big of a football powerhouse, they have won conference usa what, twice in the past decade..I say we give Mr. Kennum a Big L in his first game back in our shiny new stadium

  27. I think this is good news. The Mean Green will play against the best QB that Houston has to offer and will BEAT UH with their best available at QB. No excuses! Plus, may be an added draw to get more UofH fans in the stands. Need to do all that can be done to make this a complete sell-out! GO MEAN GREEN... Will Tune get a 6th year? Well, I hope so if he really wants to play, but do the UNT's of the NCAA world ever get the breaks that other more "high profile" schools and high profile players get when it comes to this sort of thing?

  32. McNulty excited to see UNT I've never been to Texas and am really looking forward to it," McNulty said. McNulty played in Iowa City High's defensive backfield up until his senior season and said he told UNT's staff he is open to moving back to the defensive side of the ball if the Mean Green goes in another direction at quarterback. http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/archives/2011/01/mcnulty-excited-to-see-unt.html Sounds like a good one. 34. I think about these things so you don't have to, my friend. Now you know without really having to know. Also, if anyone is awake and wants to see what turned into a phenomenal basketball game... Check out Loyola Marymount and Portland, going to OT on ESPN2. Was a 7 or 9 point game at the 2 minute mark, LMU rallied mightily and now it's going to OT thanks to clutch free throws with 2 seconds left from Portland. Good basketball.

  35. Not necessarily. What's the best way to get over missing out on a 6'6" guard that ESPN had ranked 53rd and Rivals had ranked 67th in the country in the class of 2009? Could it be bringing in the 6'5" guard that ESPN had ranked 44th and Rivals had 58th the same year? EDIT: Especially when you consider that Player A bailed out just days after swearing he wasn't going anywhere, leaving because he wanted to be a star and leaving his team at the start of the season, while Player B has tried to make the best of a reserve role, hustling hard in every chance he gets on the floor and would only be leaving because his team is practically pushing him out of his scholarship?

  36. That loud clicking sound wasn't rings hitting the railing... Someone should tell Isiah it was the sound of Alonzo Edwards finding his niche on this team. This is a big win. FIU has the best raw talent in the league. Roberts/Ferguson/Legion/Frederick/Gary/Wright is THE strongest first 6 in the conference. Give that roster to Ronnie Arrow, JJ, Steve Shields, Bob Marlin, or Mike Jarvis... They could easily sweep the Sun Belt. If ANYONE ever decides to actually coach that team, they'll be a nightmare. The talent is just too tremendous. We're lucky they didn't out-athlete us tonight. Thank goodness Isiah can't be bothered to watch shootaround or coach his guys on when to foul. If we win the West, we want FIU to finish anywhere but 4th in the East. First, third, or fifth, and they wouldn't play us until the finals. Second, and they'd potentially play us in the semis. But 4th in the east means a win from them puts them in a quarterfinal game against the West champs. I won't speak for anyone else, but I'd rather not play them cold, early in the tournament.

  38. I don't think ESPN is carrying any major conferences because the NFL playoffs are on but right now I can watch a SWAC game, a Southland game, and an Ohio Valley game. Two of those are on ESPN networks. This is just frustrating that we'll get one ESPN game and a game on Ch. 21. Seems like the Sun Belt is never on TV. I guess that would be the one advantage if we ever went to the WAC. We could at least get a late night game on TV every now and then. If we every got MWC or CUSA then TV really isn't an issue.

  42. Just wanting to keep this on page one, so interested parties can get the info and we can begin final plans...still looking for players. What would you think about a guy, when asked about playing, says that he is getting married sometime around then and it might not be possible to play. What? Hen pecked already and not even married yet???? True story, but the "un-named party" will stay un-named as I would not want his reputation to be shattered. So, the wedding planning (I thought that usually went to the bride and her family, but maybe that was before the age of the "merse") would be so intense around that time that one could not spend maybe two hours away from it at a charity BB game? Man, that's some intense wedding planning. But, congrats to the un-named party. You are, indeed, a lucky fella...maybe a bit pre-wedding hen pecked, but still a lucky fella none the less. Yes, you know who you are!

  43. It's apparent that the people making those comments are stuck in the northern reaches of the country and have no idea what goes on in Texas. They have no problem talking like they know what's going on, however. It really is interesting to see the TCU elitism coming out when they are literally only a few seasons removed from bringing in 10k fans a game to their stadium. I work with many TCU alums and just this week one was telling me that they hated SMU because they were the "rich" kids. But he said he is going to have to start changing his tune, because TCU tuition and fees have more than doubled since he graduated and the price of a TCU education is about comparable now to SMUs. UNT football will get better, you can count on it.

  45. Would be interesting to know the real school backgrounds of those poo-poo'n UNT. Thankfully, we have a Prez' at UNT who has swam with the NCAA sharks and consultant Chuck Neinas who I would bet will be called upon when needed to help our case. Anyone else don't think the MWC would prefer an 8 million populated North Texas Metroplex in their league compared to 2 schools whose populations together don't touch our school's home base and 2 new WAC schools that might find it difficult to handle a lawsuit expense of trying to get out of the WAC? Cooler heads I predict will prevail with all of this and those heads won't be consulting the MWC smack boards, either. GMG! PS: One of the most ironic aspects of all this is how SMU is (apparently) going to have to make a choice of which either choice could catapult our athletic program to the league they do not choose. Can justice possibly be any sweeter and to have it served to them in such a way that they have no control whatsoever? GMG! PS: Who is pushing these 2 other Texas schools with no semblance of NCAA FBS suceess or any past legacies such as an Abner Haynes Sun Bowl era in Mean Green Country, a Mean Joe Green Era that all but beat Frank Broyles NCAA National Championship contender in 1968 or even a Hayden Fry Era with Hayden Fry type successes on an national scale? I would still be interested to know just who it is on a MWC smack board who are suddenly enamored with TSU (SM) who never drew good football crowds in winning years and a would-be football school who has yet to tee it up at all, namely UTSA? Anyone else think all this a tad strange? And why the hell aren't they touting Midwestern State out of Wichta Falls, Texas, while they stumble all over their apparent sports stupidity of Texas college football? And now TCU'ers suddenly having a little Mean Green problem on the MWC board? Come on, Frogs, what goes up will come down and the UT Longhorns should humble yall maybe just a bit on that subject? Give the TCU of old about 4 or 5 .500 or less W/L football seasons and then lets see just how sweet the Big East becomes for them and how long those "snow-filled" trips East will suddenly become. TRUE STORY: One TCU'er told me that what was happening between those 2 Texas Interstates at UNT's Mean Green Village was one of the reasons they very (seemedly) & quickly drew up their stadium "do-up" plans and he was as serious as a heart attack when he said it. I doubted him and told him "no way" on any of that and he said it truly was a reason of several--(they would never say it was their top reason no matter what, of course). Then he asked me didn't I think the timing of TCU doing all this sorta' aligned with our turning of the dirt for our new stadium when that took place? I told him "you don't have to say anything else to convince me on that now." NOTE: BTW, the TCU guy I mention had taken some hours at UNT so he knew our situation well, but he worked for a TCU firm and.......he also booked me for one of his employees wedding receptions. GMG ! !

  46. Except that he didn't leave UNT thin when he graduated. We had another guard coming that didn't qualify and had Domo coming back after his redshirt. That says nothing of the guys who played last year like Tristan, Alzee and Shannon. At the time it looked like we were well stocked at the positions he plays. Subsequent events have changed that. I would have loved to see him get a standing O on Senior Night this year, but he didn't leave us thin and by graduating didn't cause any harm RPI wise.
