In case you missed it, Maj.Dick Winters of "Band of Brothers", E-Company (Easy Company) passed away of Jan. 2nd at the age of 92. If you read Stephen Ambrose's 1992 book or saw the movie "Band of Brothers" you are pretty much aware of what Maj Winters and Easy Co. did during the D-Day invasion and Battle of the Bulge during WWII. Maj Winters was a very private man in his life after the war and very few people even knew what he had done before the book and movie came out. He even requested that his passing not be announced until after his burial services. What a great American. We all owe Maj Winters and all our veterans and service members a debt of gratitude for the sacrifices they made and continue to make each and every day in the service to this great nation of ours. Thank you Maj. Winters...well done!4 points

These averages are up to date through the SBC play last weekend. Western is still in the lead, but their crowds are getting smaller, and they have dropped below 5k. The overall SBC average is 2450. It is going to be very interesting to see what happens to these averages once we have a good sample of data from SBC conference games. It also appears that WKU is going to win the winter holiday attendance, propelled by their sell out crowd against Louisville. It is important to note that two schools did not report attendances from their Saturday games, F-Gay-U, and Louisiana-Mon-HOE. Yes, they get nicknames for this week for not reporting their attendances. They must have been low enough to where they just didn't bother. What I did was look at their current attendance trends and averages, along with some pictures I saw, and estimated a crowd of 1033 for ULM (their average), and 800 for FAU (a little below average). So for now, both of their averages, along with the away averages of Denver and ASU are affected by these estimations. Enjoy!3 points

If we're going with Nike, it'll definately be on the ProCombat template. Here is what I put together. Took the wing lines from SOW and incorporated them into the pants stripe. Also robbed the Houston Texans numbers as the points go perfectly with our word mark. ProCombat shield on the collar also has the SOW.3 points

Where can I buy a Riley watch? On second thought, a Riley watch wouldn't be the most practical...the minute hand would be covered in a cast and the hour hand's limited range of motion would only be able to tell time between 2 and 9.2 points

Scholarships, stipends, book money, meal plays, etc. is something the cheerleaders have been working to get for a long time. As the first post stated, his wife was told it was in the works TEN years ago. In 2009 we were invited to a dinner with Dr. B and RV to discuss some of these things. Although we are closely associated with North Texas "Athletics", we are DIRECTLY associated with 'Marketing and Promotions'. We are strictly a spirit group, not athletes. We receive lots of support for the athletic department but any scholarship money that is available goes to football, basketball, soccer, softball and other sports. We were told for us to be able to receive scholarships, it was up to our alumni. They would have to set it up with the school and somehow make it a "Cheerleading only" scholarship. In the past three years, we've gone from ONLY getting camp t-shirts and warm-ups... to now receiving shirts, bags, backpacks, sweat shirts AND shoes! I can't tell you how excited I was when an order form went around for shoe sizes at one of our practices. It was like an answered prayer. We think small... I'd probably have a heart attack if scholarships were ever a real possibility; I'm just thrilled we have shoes. However, this year... we lost a coach... mid-season. This really wouldn't have been such a bad situation if there was any sort of backup plan... but my team mates have just been put on the back burner. Understandably, they have bigger fish to fry... the football team also lost a coach so that was a little more of a priority than ours... and there is a HUGE new stadium in construction... but they fired the cheer coach and although there have been applicants, there has [still] not been a single interview... or even a call back. Anyway- As far as I've been told... there is no scholarship money available for *spirit groups* (Dancers and mascots included). We are here, at every basketball game, athletic event, appearance because we love the program and the university. It's not easy... it's a lot of hard work... but it's lots of fun! Thank you so much for your support2 points

Because I post so many? Or because you don't want to argue about the basic premise that our environment is toxic on both sides, but just prove that the side you are not on is really toxic? It's true. I mean, just looking at the 3 most famous assinations in our history (I'll say Lincoln, MLK and JFK). There was by no means any kind of toxic and angry debate around each of those individuals at all. Things were great and then, boom, some nutjob found a gun. I think the exact same thing would be happening in reverse -- that's my issue and it would drive me just as nuts. You must spend a lot of time sticking your penis in people's feet and mouths, because it's impossible for you to find the middle of anything.1 point

One thing that seems to be forgotten in the Mattress Mac episode is that MM is an alumnus of North Texas and an ex-letterman. He wouldn't have the same ties to TSU and I would wager that you won't see any large contribution to them just because Darrell Dickey is there. I think that Coach Fran has made a serious mistake in selecting DD as OC. Darrell has had three successful seasons as an OC in 11 years at that position. Given what success he has had, most of it at North Texas, he should be the running backs coach. He did have two national champion rushers here and that should be his best position. He has flopped at Utah State and New Mexico and TSU doesn't need failure as they attempt to advance in class.1 point

If anyone has watched the HBO miniseries "Band of Brothers", you will recognize Winters as the leader of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Major Winters passed away on Janurary 2, at the age of 92. It is sad to see the members or this country's greatest generation leaving us.1 point

My comment meant that I don't usually agree with New York Times editorials. Editorials are written for strong reactions and -- especially now -- meant for page views and sales. As a non-retard, I'm sure you know this. I forget how much I have to spell out and qualify points to avoid your 10 paragraph trap door debates. Let me back up -- the basic idea that I posted at the beginning is that, regardless of what's been going for centuries (did you catch the Lincoln reference I threw out), I think things are at a point today where the environment is so hostile and fractured that it can push the crazies over the edge like never before. The fact that there is one side pointing fingers while the other treats this like a trial defense helps illustrate this. I fail to see why this is a controversial stance, but I can't wait to learn why it is as more and more news sources create the counter-case. Honestly, the reason I bring the sites up is that while they are on their own no big deal, the fact that people have felt the need to go back and scrub and remove things that were inflammatory makes me ask why they were ever up at all. If we're lucky, when all is said and done, maybe a paid study or two will be involved. (/crosses fingers)1 point

yeah those MF'ers don't even know what they've got coming. On the flip-side, he brought us 4 straight conference titles and a pair of national rushing champs. So maybe they've got that to look forward to in the new wack-ass WAC.1 point

You give lots to this program, right? You travel to the games, right? If the answer is still yes to each of these questions, why would you post this? I assume you are joking and that your disgust for this program is at an all-time high, which is understandable, but you seem like this program has just beaten you down to a point where you can't see us even competing against the Sun Belt. I know that we need all the supportive fans we can find, but if I was as down as you seem about the program, I think I would just stop the heartbreak and find something else to support. If you are by some chance being serious, then the new stadium was the biggest waste of money in the history of the entire university.1 point

Ho-lee crap! Conference USA would be a perfect fit for Todd Dodge. TU's G.J. Kinne was night and day better this year with former Lake Travis HC coaching him. Todd Dodge would be great as well for Kinne. If you can say one thing about Tulsa's Todd Graham, it's that he isn't afraid to hire former high school coaches - and the most successful ones at that: Gus Malzahn (Springdale, AR), Bill Blankenship (Tulsa Union), Chad Morris (Lake Travis). Throwing Todd Dodge into the mix would be great. Malzahn and Morris have moved on to Auburn and Clemson after short stints with TU. It's unlikely Blankenship will ever leave because he's been in Tulsa his whole life as a player (former TU QB), and coach (Sapulpa and Tulsa Union, TU). He briefly coached in Edmond (OKC suburb) and his hometown, Spiro. Two of his son played football at TU and a third played for former TU OL Denver Johnson at Eastern Illinois. For whatever reason, high school coaches seem to do well with Todd Graham. As a graduate of both UNT and TU, I'd be very happy to see Todd Dodge hired as Chad Morris' replacement. On the whole, Dodge's high school career was better than both Malzahn's and Morris, and somewhat better than Blankenships. All won state titles or multiple titles and were in the hunt every year. I truly believe Dodge has a ton of upside, but needed to be an assistant first. How crazy would this hire be? Todd Dodge helping coach against UNT the year after he's fired!1 point

I'll agree to stop the Dodge discussions about where they may end up, or as emmitt puts it, "the lovefest," if posters also agree to stop calling RD a spoiled brat, ertc..., and if you stop you constant envy laden posts of all things UT. There is so much difference in character between Riley Dodge and Vizza that your comparison is ridiculous.1 point

Sorry to see this thread sink to such a level when the point should be to look at the tragedy of what has happened and to hope and pray that those injured will survive and that the families of those slain will find some comfort. Idiots that do this sort of thing usually do not belong to any recognized main stream political party, and to make it out to be so is just not helpful or appropriate. What we should all be considering is what has led this great nation of ours to the point where our elected officials cannot openly and freely meet with the constituents without fear of some deranged idiot shotting up the place. I can all but guarantee you that this guy was known by someone to be loony and a danger to society, but nothing could be done or was done for some reason. One has to wonder what this will do to the ability of these elected representatives to meet in public with those they represent? I care not what party or what views this Congresswoman holds in this case, and it should not matter to any other person. We have six people dead including a federal judge and a nine year old little girl with her life fully in front of her and a congresswoman shot through the brain trying to hold on in the hospital. Let us all stop and pray or at least stop and think about how we as a great nation came to this! May God help and comfort all those who are suffering because of this tragic series of events.1 point

Your point? I don't see Sarah Palin asking anyone to shoot the Congresswoman... Those are survey map symbols, not gunscope crosshairs. On the other hand, let's take a trip down memory lane of the Bush years...1 point
-
Yes, and Walter Mondale was responsible for John Hickley Jr. shooting President Reagan I just can't figure out which political party was the villian in the whole Mark David Chapman incident. I guess Carter? Or maybe Reagan? So confusing. Kinda sad that people try to make political hay out of a tragedy like this.1 point

Seriously? The dude was crazy and fixated on this woman. Maybe if you look hard enough, you can blame this on Pres. Bush, also. Oh, wait, he's out of office, let's move to Palin now (who really isn't worth the effort) Maybe we should quit referring to good three point shooters in basketball as sharp shooters. Makes about as much sense.1 point

It"s called a metaphor. A bomb in football is not actually a bomb. A home run in business doesn't actually mean you round three bases. A steal in baseball doesn't mean you get to keep the base. I suspect what she meant is don't give up, rethink your strategy or reprepare yoruself, then try again. That is the problem with this country these days. If some dumbass shoots up a building, its automatically the violence in video games. It's never bad parenting, or maybe they just have a fuse in their wiring. Its always blame something else. Hey, I love to play Assassins Creed. I have yet to scale a buliding, and jump down on someone with a kinfe. Also, everyone keeps pointing out Palin's map, assuming that this idiot was a right winger. He did kill a conservative judge, and a moderate democrat congreswoman, and several innocent bystanders.0 points
