Coach, I'm looking forward to seeing Softball return to the home of the Mean Green. I hope we can get the Talons out in force with the Massive "Victory" Bell to chime in that first win. Good luck, Rick3 points

I know three personally. All are working and have good jobs. One works for the Dallas Morning News, and two for the Star Telegram. One of them in particular is considered by many in his specialty of choice to be, if not THE best, ONE of the best in the Nation. None of these three gentlemen have degrees. Just more proof that it's not where you get your degree or skill, but what you do with it. Rick3 points

I attended three universities and this happens to nearly everyone unless it's a private school, and that's a major waste of your money. Hang in there. Remember, the squeeky wheel gets the grease. You made the right choice and it will pay dividends down the road. Rick3 points

Silver will be there. Just like he was there in the Monsoon at Cajun Field last week. Rain or shine, Silver will fly like an Eagle. Rick3 points

This does not surprise me in the least. And I don't have a problem with it either. Whenever you have gatherings with alcohol there's a good chance that things can get out of hand. But the groups who do this and are associated with the university have been expected to monitor themselves since their membership includes those who are not of age. However, their efforts to keep a handle on it has failed leaving officials who are responsible to end it. They have a responsibility to provide a safe environment and are the ones who get sued by the parents every time a kid gets drunk and falls off of a balcony or dies of alcohol poisoning. Same thing with the hazing. It gets out of hand leaving those who are in charge no other options but to step in and apply the strong arm. The groups who are affected have no one to blame but themselves. Surely this doesn't surprise anyone? Rick3 points

Did ya'll see channel five's preview of tomorrow's Star report about NT's interest in purchasing Texas Weslayan University's School of Law? I learned last spring that Weslayan had contacted NT about it in the past but we were not interested. Sounds like something has changed someone's mind. University president and current Judge Jackson maybe? Man, how does that bumper sticker go? " Sit down, Shut up and Hang on!", This ship is taken off! Rick3 points

Dave I completely agree. But if this happens, and it's left in Ft. Worth, I'm going to take up a collection of Mean Green gear from all of you(flags, schedules, posters etc...) take them by there and make sure they know who they represent every week. Rick3 points

You would have to be on some heavy stuff to be able watch 41 Cavs games this year.2 points

You can fault Riley alll you want as a ball player but calling him a spoiled brat is a different story. Fact, Riley was basically a wide receiver until the Tune injury, then he was put back into the QB rotation. After that I am sure getting Thompson ready to start was the emphasis not the back up QB. Harping on his performance at Army and ignoring the circumstances is over the top in my view. If you don't think that Riley was a major part of NT's play post the Dodge termination then you and I have a big disagreement. Evaluating gutsy QB's is beyond ridiculous; Riley played when a lot would not have and seemed to always conduct himself well. What other players did has absolutely nothing to do with it.2 points

Yes you are correct that he did not play good at Army but remember he did not practice much at all at QB in the Spring or August and did not start taking snaps on a more regular basis in Canales' offense until the Tuesday after the Rice game. Therefore he only had three practice days to get ready to be a backup QB against Army. After Thompson was knocked out, seemingly a majority of the team did not play good and not just Riley. You think it was Canales' scheme, Hamilton and Dunbar that won the FAU game and not RD.....You are also correct about the Canales scheme and Hamilton. Here are Riley's numbers from the FAU game... 10 for 15 passing (67%), 146 yards, two TD's (23 and 46 yards), 1 Int, zero sacks and plenty of key 3rd completions for First Downs. 11 rushes for 67 yards (6.1 avg) including several key 3rd down rushes for First Downs. Lance on the over hand actually had one of his rare less productive performances with 29 rushes for 72 yards (2.5 avg). You must have seen or listened on the radio or read on the internet a different game than the few UNT fans present with me at crappy Lockhart Stadium saw. My wife and other fans around us certainly commented how great of a game that Riley played in leading the team to victory. Other than the WKY game in 2009, I consider the 2010 FAU game to be Riley's best performance in leading the team.2 points

If we're going with Nike, it'll definately be on the ProCombat template. Here is what I put together. Took the wing lines from SOW and incorporated them into the pants stripe. Also robbed the Houston Texans numbers as the points go perfectly with our word mark. ProCombat shield on the collar also has the SOW.2 points

I forgot to add that it was really awesome for you to come up and introduce yourself at the N.O. Bowl. It's always a thrill for me to get to put a face to a name. I'm looking so forward to seeing some softball next year. Rick2 points

I'm as big a Cowboy fan as there is I suppose. I entered and won a crazy contest to win NFC semi final tickets against Greenbay, and paid $200 a piece for two other tickets for the NFC championship game against the niners for the '03 season. But I wouldn't mind seeing them lose a couple of more seasons and then TCU hit a slump so that it leaves the Mean Green as the only winning up and coming program in football in the metroplex. I'll sacrifice em all for the Mean Green. Rick2 points

Probably over a 1,000. There are people w/ college degrees who have never done drugs who are homeless. It's very possible that being homeless with no $$ was his way of staying clean. He could've had a fear of gettting a job and making money and going back to his old ways. I agree he needs to go to rehab to be able to cope with this new lifestyle he is about to tackle. I don't think this is in anyways a charity job , he has a great talent.1 point

I don't care where he goes, either, just to reiterate the point someone else made. But I do think the guy (and particularly his family) are better suited for coaching at a high school. I don't mean that in any sort of talent or ability sense, I mean in terms of approach to the job and how he and the family handle the environment and surrounding criticism. Whether or not he will ever succeed as a coach at the college level, I don't know and I'm not trying to speculate. But based on pretty much every public comment he ever made in interviews and the things we hear (both good and bad) from players and parents, I think he'd be happier working with high school kids in a high school environment. High school, even as seriously as many in Texas take it, is also a much less intense spotlight with far less immediate and intense criticism than college ball. The criticism really seemed to get to Mrs. Dodge, especially in the last year and a half, and based on how she reacted to it I think she'd be happier with him as a revered figure at a powerhouse high school.1 point

I think it would be great if Todd Dodge and Riley end up somewhere like SFA. Both class individuals and Riley would be a terror at the FCS level.1 point

But I thought I'd share any way. Tavon Allen I used to hoop regularly last year with this kid when he was in high school...he's gone to Mass to prep, but got to play a bit over break. The reason I point him out is that he was one of the most unique skill sets I've ever seen...he is 100% ambidextrous...and his natural inclination is to shoot his 3's and deeper perimeter shots with his left hand and his mid-range with his right. It is one of the more remarkable things to see. He recently signed with Drexel...just a kid to keep an eye out for.1 point

Well, in their defense, the OU fight song only has about 5 unique words repeated over and over. They don't ask a lot from their fans.1 point

Still the best unit on the team: Tomlinson LT - Johnson LG - Y'Baro C - Fortenberry RG - Feeley RT or any combo of these. I wasn't a Big fan of Coach Bryan, but the O-line was pretty awesome for the last 5 games. Tomlinson & Johnson should be the senior leaders and Fortenberry and Feeley will be Juniors with a lot of games under their prodigious belts. JCs could bolster this group, but I don't see a lot of backup material on the team except maybe Franklin and Adedipe (sp?). The new O-line Coach should make all of theses starters that much better with his pro background. Lefty was the recruiter, so it's hard to tell what kind of talent we'll get in this year.1 point

Lest anyone misunderstand...all of the current seats subscribed are general admission seats. After the seats are installed and priority points known, the seats will then be assigned. In response to SUMG...Probably the reason that the SBC teams aren't listed is that 90% of the people in Denton don't know who they are.1 point

Kind of crossed my mind as well. Sounds like a good fit, and probably would be a good position for him to go for in an attempt to pick up the pieces after his debacle here.1 point

Yes, he now has accepted a job with the Cleveland Cavaliers. I hope they put him in rehab first, otherwise they will just be throwing money at him to make themselves feel better, while he blows all that money on booze and drugs. (For those unfamiliar with the story, he is homeless due to drug and alcohol abuse)1 point

I stand corrected as an alumnus only has to actually attend, not only graduate. I still can't believe you can talk to music about rapeing, shooting and pillaging and they give you an award for it. Only in America! Rick1 point

My name is Ricky McKinney and I AM NORTH TEXAS!. I was born and raised in Burleson TX. Graduated from NT with a BBA in Strategic Management in 1990. I pledged Talons in the spring of '88. I was fortunate to get to travel with the Basket Ball team to Salt Lake City for NT's first and only appearance in the BIG DANCE in March of '88 and I've been a Greenblood ever since. I made most of the big games in that memorable '88 football season and it solidified my hunger for the Mean Green ever since. I was "Eppy" the mascot(now Scrappy) during basketball games after that year until I graduated. In 1990 I completed renovations on "Boomer", the artillery howitzer used at the football games. Through working on several projects for the athletic department for Talons I recieved my first job out of school working for Paramount Pictures performing as Rowdy the Armadillo mascot in the movie "Necessary Roughness". I also served as the liason between the wardrobe department and the AD dept which basically meant I was the equipment manager for the players and cast in the movie. I'm married with one child and reside in Weatherford TX. Of the 7 towns and cities across this state that I have at one time or another called my home, I would choose Denton over them all and feel for anyone who has to live in or near Dallas. I am a firefighter for the City of Fort Worth and work at Station 14 on Meadowbrook Dr. I am proud to be a part of this family called The Mean Green Nation. We are the true fans of this school and it's athletic program. We have been here during all the bad times and our patience are now being rewarded and it's only just begun. If your a new student or incoming student you couldn't have pick a more fun time to be attending school at this waking giant. Times have never been more exciting at North Texas than now. My fellow Greenbackers started cooking for the masses to try to encourage others to tailgate and enjoy themselves and it has just snowballed from there. What started out as a very small group put together by Mean Rob Black and others back in '98 has now become almost a way of life during football season. Good grief have the times changed for the better? We will be having a practice blowout cookout tailgate party on Saturday March 8th. I expect to see each and eveyone of you who can get to Fouts to be there. Go Mean Green Nation on the Rise, Baby!!!! Rick1 point

I've never even heard of her until tonight. My wife say's she really likes the song she sang tonight. I'm glad for her success even though North Texas will not get very much credit for any of it. I'm glad the DMN did the story on her or I would have never known she went to NT. I agreed with the young lady when she spoke into the mic and said, "I couldn't believe my type of music would be considered pop". Rick1 point
