  5. Yes you are correct that he did not play good at Army but remember he did not practice much at all at QB in the Spring or August and did not start taking snaps on a more regular basis in Canales' offense until the Tuesday after the Rice game. Therefore he only had three practice days to get ready to be a backup QB against Army. After Thompson was knocked out, seemingly a majority of the team did not play good and not just Riley. You think it was Canales' scheme, Hamilton and Dunbar that won the FAU game and not RD.....You are also correct about the Canales scheme and Hamilton. Here are Riley's numbers from the FAU game... 10 for 15 passing (67%), 146 yards, two TD's (23 and 46 yards), 1 Int, zero sacks and plenty of key 3rd completions for First Downs. 11 rushes for 67 yards (6.1 avg) including several key 3rd down rushes for First Downs. Lance on the over hand actually had one of his rare less productive performances with 29 rushes for 72 yards (2.5 avg). You must have seen or listened on the radio or read on the internet a different game than the few UNT fans present with me at crappy Lockhart Stadium saw. My wife and other fans around us certainly commented how great of a game that Riley played in leading the team to victory. Other than the WKY game in 2009, I consider the 2010 FAU game to be Riley's best performance in leading the team.

  6. Toothings: (1) There are too many bowl games. (2) If they are going to have too many bowl games, attendance will always be a problem in the crappy bowls if they pit teams with indifferent fan bases in bowl games hundreds of miles away from the campus...and during a recession...oh, I'm sorry Obama-sniffers - during a "weak recovery." Rock me.

  8. Conservative Denton????? With UNT and TWU smack in the middle of it???? You are kidding, right? Denton has more "frog lovers" and "tree huggers" and anti-growth, anti-business, tax and spend folks than any city of its size needs to have. Good grief...do you actually live in Denton and have you for any time? Get out much? Denton has had and continues to have a interesting split between the more liberal "education community" and the more conservative "business community" that gives Denton the "flavor" and "uniqueness" that it has now and has had for many years. Just kiddin' with you a bit. Denton has been known as a pretty darn little liberal city for some time. Seems to be changing as most "politicians" are calling themselves Republican or "conservative" in order to get elected. Just the way it is in Texas these days, but Denton is not a bastion of conservative thinking.

Michael Marshall has great athleticism can jump a 40 inch vert. Dont really know how good he is on the field but has the build of a DB. Both were redshirted this past season. Expecting alot out of them 2 this spring. Marshauwn 5'9 160 Michael 6'0 195

  19. +1, and here are some thoughts on some of your thoughts. 44 Bellazin, Aaron DE 6-2 232 Fr. Got some PT as a Frosh, a year in the weight room should help out Not sure why he didn't see the field again after the first few games. He looks like he'll be the real deal. 90 Boutwell, Ryan DT 6-3 254 Fr. 3rd year with the program, DE or DT? DE, I hope. 80 Chancellor, Brelan WR 5-9 168 Fr. We found a kick returner!!! A great freshman season. Lets see what he can do with the ball in his hands on offense now As you said, WR is still pretty deep, even with the graduations of Jackson, Outlaw, and Lott. Benny Jones was taken off this list, but he should be back next year. Whether Brelan sees much PT at WR or not, I love having him as a return weapon, kind of like Hester with the Bears. 54 Dunham, Blake LB 6-1 202 Fr. Long Snapper this season? LB in the future? I think the long snapper job is still Kokjohn's. Look for him to be a ST hero. 23 Ford, Steven DB 6-0 173 Jr. Was a starter before an injury took him out Not only a starter, but far and away our best cover DB according to the coaches. 46 Herron, Julian LB 6-2 205 Jr. Did he see the field? Needs to put on LB's to see get in the mix He played some, and played respectably. Probably not a starter. 20 McCord, D'Leon DB 6-1 180 Jr. Played well last season He did fine. Ford's spot is locked up, so the only way he starts is by taking Royce Hill's spot. The odds are against it, but it is not as far-fetched as it might seem. 66 McCoy, Brandon DE 6-2 265 So. Played well once they found a spot for him. One of my personal favs, 26 yr old ex-marine He needs to see more of the field, and at DE. 35 Orr, Zachery LB 6-0 240 Fr. Earned alot of PT as a true Fresh and played well, could be starting this season I'll be surprised if he doesn't. And in '12, and in '13. 45 Phillips, Jeremy LB 6-3 212 So. Played well but needs to turn it up going into his JR year He is the big-play guy. He just needs to find a little more consistency, and I believe he will. 89 Prior, Daniel LB 6-2 228 So. Didn't he play some TE last season as well? I kinda view him as another Phillips. By the end of the season, he was only playing TE (maybe U-Back), and doing a very good job of it. I don't recall if any passes ever came his way, but he threw killer blocks pretty much every time he lined up. 14 Stradford, Tyler WR 6-2 185 Jr. Deep threat who suffered a near fatal freak injury. Will help stretch the field for whoever is at QB Definite starter, whether or not the ball comes his way a lot. 7 Thompson, Derek QB 6-4 225 So. Big guy coming back from injury, will be a good battle for starting QB He has the edge for the starting spot going into spring. But it won't be handed to him. 72 Tomlinson, Matt OL 6-5 300 Jr. Probably one of the favorites to nail down an open starting spot I'll be surprised if he doesn't. 57 Y'Barbo, Mason OL 6-2 288 Fr. Like most others, has a chance to steal a starting gig Guy worked at Bodacious BBQ--he's alright in my book.

  24. Good Lord. You can buy season tickets in the "General Admission" area (tail section) for $100.00 The family package costs $400.00 for the season for a family of four; two adults and two children. Is it that difficult to figure out?

  25. You know, PMG, Back in the old SWC days, TCU was waaaaayyyyy behind Baylor in everything. Ol' Grant Teaff was a great coach, they had multiple winning seasons, had great recruiting ties, and solid facilities. But what really helped Baylor was that they got to play against schools that were similar to them (TCU, SMU, and Rice) and two others (Tech and UH) that had resources very similar to them. However, Baylor sold themselves out for a big check every year when the Big XII formed and because of that decision, although financially strong, they now look at TCU in their front windshield, not the rear-view. Nowadays, Baylor, even with a good coach in Art Briles, will never get back to that level again, as long as they stay in a conference with the 9 other major state programs that are more well-funded, have much larger enrollments, and have more legislative pull. But, Baylor made the decision long ago to take the BCS millions and hope for 6-6 to get them a bowl game. That Baylor continues to make much more $$$ in this college football business than TCU or Boise State is a travesty, but what you talk about in your post above is very legitimate. The haves are not terribly interested in sharing with the have-nots. TCU has had to make their own way, just as Boise State has done. The really ironic part is that a school like Baylor, who strategically aligned with the big-time Texas schools that they have nothing in common with, is the most susceptible of getting "replaced", since the Bevo 10 has very little chance of survival if even one of the teams leavs for another conference. And that will happen--either the Aggies will go to the SEC or Missouri will get into the Big Ten, or Texas will go independent. Baylor was amazingly close to being sent all the way down to CUSA this past summer. I suspect that will eventually play out. If the AQ is going to drop a Baylor (and others), as you suspect, they aren't going to open up their arms to accepting many others. TCU found a way in, even if it was through the back door, to be an AQ team. Whether that stays that way over the enxt decade or so might be in question, but they have a better chance of staying there than Baylor does, much less a team like Boise State who will continue to need undefeated seasons to just hope to get included in a big BCS bowl game. For schools like ours, it could still happen, but it will be an even tougher road to that AQ status than it has been for TCU.

  28. God, please keep Congress' nose out of something it does not belong in. Amen! Congress has many more pressing items to be dealing with than something it has no business getting involved with at all. Perhaps one could use the "Interstate Commerce Clause" or the ant-trust statutes as Flyer mentions which they pull out of their rear ends from time of time, and I wouldn't put it past them to somehow use the RICO statutes to somehow accuse the NCAA and BCS of some sort of criminal enterprise, but at the end of the day, this is a matter that Congress needs to keep their noses out of...just my opinion. The less government, the better...smaller government is always better government in my opinion. Go do something about the economy, the deficit, the war in Afghanistan and Iraq (yes, Iraq is still in a state of war and we still have troops in Iraq), immigration, taxes, etc., etc. The system will change...yes it will in time...but it will change for economic reasons once all the parties figure out how it is really in their best interests to do so. I doubt that even the BCS people think the BCS system is in any way the long term solution. Figure out a way to make it more profitable to change the BCS system to a playoff and it will change fast. Until then...Congress, keep your nose out of it and go do something much more important.

  32. I also graduated in '98, and the changes have been tremendous. I left the area in 2000, so I wasn't able to attend a home game for several years, although I did catch a N.O. Bowl and several other away games. But when I set foot back on campus a few years ago, I couldn't believe the change. When I left Denton (Lewisville, actually, but a suburb of Denton), there was no tailgating. Attendance was weak. But when I came back, I saw thousands of people tailgating. Even though the team wasn't winning much, attendance was probably double what it was back in '98-99. Much more green in the stands. I can only imagine how all of that will be amplified once games move to the new stadium.

  33. Its good to hear all of the feeback about our University. I have been around campus a number of times since graduation, and the growth is simply awsome. (its always after you leave it happens!) The new stadium is looking great, can't wait to get there for a game. I know its always been a big commuter school, but we still have to get a stronger following, and UNT pride, flourishing around the town and University... The story about the bar-keep getting mad about UNT chants pisses me off a little btw... Lets just keep wearing green and UNT stuff anytime we can and try to do our part to get the awareness and excitement up!! (sorry if that sounds sappy)

  36. It really is truly a shame that such a great fanbase has had to deal with two absolute jokes of head coaches in Bill Callahan and now Bo Pelini. Pelini is such a jerk that I knew several Longhorn fans that openly cheered for the SOONERS to beat Nebraska in the Big XII Championship game last month because they just hate that guy and his immature act so much. To me, Nebraska football fans, as a whole, are among the best in the country, but they have really had to settle for two ridiculous coaches over the last 5-6 years.

  38. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice

  39. May be that he was gutsy, but far from a team player he tried to be a one man show even after everyone knows his arm was gone. Pitiful performance at Army almost as if he had never run the offense. He was gutsy at FAU but it was Canales offensive scheme (brilliant I might add) Hamilton, and Dunbar who won that game not RD. If you saw the efficiency that Tune showed at Clemson you would have been convinced that with he and Thompson that Riley was a #3 or #4 receiver at best. Dodge didn't save this season Canales saved the season. The quote from RD early in his time at NT "We came here to turn this program around"---well "we" didn't do much but waste 4 years on a dismal failed experiment. If we had had Tune or Thompson at QB with Canales calling the shots after FAU we would have been in New Orleans even with one of the slowest, weakest defenses I have seen at NT. There is a reason that everyone everywhere knows Riley Dodge is not and never will be an FBS D-1 QB. He and his Dad should have come to that conclusion long ago to let us recruit another QB rather than all candidates knowing Riley had a lock with Daddy in charge. I'll say this to anyone's face. Feel free to PM me. And no Riley Dodge never saw the day that he was gutsier than Scott Hall and Scott even won games for us and called his own shots w/o having to look to the sidelines.

  40. Glad to have him interested, but is he head and shoulders above some of the local young men that are interested in North Texas? If not, why offer a kid that far from home that could become homesick over kids that live in this area/state? Now if he rates a 4 or 5 star on Rivals, then get him here.

  41. First things first. Gandy was undersized and he probably should have been playing FCS from the gitgo. Now why all of the aspersions toward Riley? I think that he did all that he could and deserves to be honored at the head of a page for at least a day.

  42. DG, I might have agreed with that assessment about a year ago, but after Canales fully took over I saw a Riley that I hadn't seen before. Anyone who plays with a broken wrist, with such intensity, after suffering many other injuries is a real special athlete in my book.
