I dunno... seems the kid is showing the same class he's shown the past few years and just wants to start over fresh. 1. Haven't seen any reason to doubt this kid's character over the past three seasons. Have I missed something? 2. He's walking out of here still praising UNT when he could be throwing crap and stirring up the media. How many other transfers have you heard about that have nothing but hate for thier last team? 3. If I remember right (note: I could be wrong), he was pounced on right after his father was canned and asked, mid-season, about next year. Could he have responded better? Yep, but if he'd have said "I don't know" The media and the fanbase would NEVER have let that go. 4. Finally let's face it, next year this kid would've had the most difficult transition of any other player on the team. (Having someone replace your dad is personal, even if it's for ligit reasons). Basically it's a fresh start for him and fewer distractions for Coach Mac and staff next year. Sounds like a Win-win to me. Best of luck to you young man!3 points

Sounds like a great hire. He has an impressive resume and has proven he can turn a program around. He certainly has been given a fantastic chance of doing it at NT, facilities wise. Rick3 points

My favorite music is: Cummings series 660 diesel's screamin', Whale, Chirp, Siren, Engine #? on, smoke showing!, and of course who can resist to move the hell out of the way to: THE AIR HORNS!. Hell, this music is so popular even the goofy suckers listening to their personal auto racket too loud with their windows rolled up can't resist even the slightest move to the right Rick3 points

Thanks for the kind words Jack. I don't mind if others speak their opinion. You and George have disagreed with me on many things, but I still respect your arguments. Some of these naysayers on gmg.com need to put in the years, dollars, and service i.e. don't throw rocks if you live in a glass house. As I have said before if you've got something to say to me PM me. I would say what I said directly to anyone including RD.2 points

How long did Leppo step in as second string last season? A couple of plays before getting hurt? Really? And he is a Southlake grad that may not even return to UNT after losing Dodge, his mentor. Don't get me wrong, I think he is probably a good player but I am one of those that have to see them play before I can determine if they are the real deal. High school careers are over in college, unfortunately. Rumor has it that JJ is scheduled for another surgery in the Spring and YBarbo has not gotten reps as center yet but will probably get some in the spring. Fortenberry stepped in last year and did a hell of a job for a third string center, in my opinion. Do you guys actually go to the games and watch who is playing what? or do you just use your internet coaching skills looking at a roster to decide who plays where? Just curious. I do agree that YBarbo would be a great backup to Johnson or Fortenberry, but given the circumstances, I would bet on experience, spring practice and then two a days or whatever that's called in college. (Sorry, I have high school boys.) I think the offensive lineman will be Tomlinson, JJ, Adedipe, Fortenberry, and Feeley. With that being said, I think the oline will have a pretty good 3 deep again.2 points

This guy just continues to prove what a joke of a person he is. Its one thing if they're down 3,7,10 points in the 4th quarter and he just can't make it happen. Its quite another to try and blow it off and excuse it as some sort of joke. Between this and the A&M blow up and the way he treats his QB, this guy will find himself in the same line of work as Mike Leach soon.2 points

If they add Arkansas State to UNT and UL...I say yes. Why not? We could soon dominate it, build rivalries, keep rivalries, and renew old ones (New Mexico State).2 points

That physics professor you met may just be the most uninformed individual on campus. I spoke with Dr. Battaille on the eve of the tU game and then the next morning at the tailgate party. I reminded her that no one had questioned her for an oppinion on athletics during the Exes Board members retreat. So I stated, "that was because I couldn't make it". I then explained that it was my firm belief that athletics gives our university the greatest chance to draw support from our alumni by bringing the most amount of them back onto campus. Her statement was, "It is, but it SHOULD be one of the best opportunities to bring them back onto campus". She then explained that it was her hope to try and reach a balance with all departments but I could tell she certainly agreed with my sentiments. Then........she went on to explain that she had been around some major, big time college athletic programs throughout her career and has seen what they can do. She stated that when she was at Washington State they earned a trip to the Rose Bowl for the first time since the 30's. Because of that success she said their enrollment and alumni donation levels noticeably increased the next school year. That night in Austin she was realistic about the tU game as was the rest of us were but she outright expected us to beat SMU. Now if you have read anything about the long, ongoing debate that has been argued between those with athletic agenda's and academia you know that academia will go to it's grave sighting every known statistic they can dig up trying to prove that there is zero correlation between winning and an increase in either enrollment or donations. And if you have taken the 3 days required to read Dr. Battaille's resume you know what side she comes from, yet to hear her speak of the positives she has seen herself from what athletics can do for a university set me at ease. I'm willing to give her my full fledged support to accomplish her goals here. Rick2 points

Next weeks tournament starts on Friday the 26th and runs through Sunday. There are two games saturday the 27th, one at 3 p.m. and one at 5:30. I haven't been out there yet but see an opportunity to go Saturday. Are there concessions out there first off? Would there be an opportunity to have a small barbecue event free for everyone until the food lasts? I can pre cook thursday/friday and have some briskettes and ribs ready for saturday afternoon if there is enough interests from the rest of the MGNation. If this is a yes, we need folks to volunteer some cash, some softdrinks, some barbecue sauce and bread, and plastic ware and anything else you guys can think of. My cell is 817-999-9335 or you can email me at firefightnRick@hotmail.com if anyone has some suggestions. I have wanted to do this since last year for our girls but just now have an opening in my schedule to do so. Hope all are safe for the break. Rick2 points

Nothing against Riley, I respect what he did and how he conducted himself, but my goodness. If he deserves a spot at the top of the home page, then he should be in line behind Scott Hall, Patrick Cobbs, Brian Waters, Booger, etc...1 point

Per Vitto's blog. ....In one of the weirder scenes I have ever seen at a Sun Belt game, UNT head coach Shanice Stephens sprinted up the tunnel toward the officials dressing room after the Mean Green's loss to the Blue Raiders. Several of UNT's players sprinted after her. For the rest of the story click below: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/archives/2011/01/final----mtsu-83-unt-63.html Rick1 point

Wow that story was hard to read. For those of you who don't want to read 20 paragraphs before getting to the premise, here is an abbreviated story: Pellini made a Navy Officer an honorary captain and made the mistake of saying he could call a play during the Holiday Bowl. Nebraska got beat and the Navy Officer never got to call a play. The reporter was outraged and made a bigger deal about it than it was and now the Navy Officer is sad and the coach looks bad.1 point

I could honestly care less who you are. You being able to make those comments to my face isn't being disputed. I'd like to see you tell that to 'the incredibly weak' Riley Dodge.1 point

Damn, we must have been watching a different Riley Dodge. I saw a player who gave his all to the program and was far from a spoiled brat, who if anything was very football savvy. Injury prone, yes but that only enhances my opinion of a never say quit player. His arm was not a cannon but adequate despite the injuries. I do agree that Todd Dodge was a failure as head football coach as the record certainly collaborates. However, Riley was far from a failure as a player and in fact saved this season from being a complete disaster.1 point

There have been a good amount of SBC home games since the last report 8 days ago. Winter Holiday games are winding down, and conference games are heating up. A guy on the SBC board informed me that Denver does not use the traditional semester system, so I decided to just forget it and not keep track of their winter holiday attendance because they are the odd ball. Western Kentucky is still in the lead in overall attendance average, and with their 7300+ crowd against Louisville has the largest crowd of the year. The only school I see with a chance of topping this is North Texas, and even that is unlikely. We would basically have to fill the arena for a conference game. If we keep winning we have a shot at it though. MTSU and North Texas are 2nd and 3rd respectively, and will likely be in a dog fight the rest of the year for 2nd place. ASU (whose attendance is all over the place, and yes even though they are currently in 7th place) may have a shot at the top 3 finish as well if their conference success continues. Lastly, Mike Jarvis and the FAU fighting owls...who many on here think are a contender for the SBC Championship, have once again fallen into last place, and are currently averaging less than 1000 fans per game. These numbers are accurate through the games on January 4, 2011. When all is said and done, I am going to try and do some statistical analysis like the guys that wrote Freakonomics and find out what factors were most important to attendance, and which schools did better and worse than they "should have". It should be fun!1 point

I love getting info and good discussion from message boards but HATE that some people use their anonymity to act like fools. Shaft, DallasGreen, Adub, MeanGreenBob wouldn't dare speak about or to someone the way they phrase their comments here. Sad, just sad. If you're goal was to get me offsides consider it a success. But YOU are 'incredibly weak.' Not Riley.1 point

True Story. Back in the '80's we had a pretty good men's team that would get some attention now and then. One season we had a big game against Air Force when AF was ranked nationally and the game was at Fouts. We heard about it, and also that not very many people usually attended the games. In wanting to do our part in Talons I decided that for the first time at a soccer event, "Boomer" the Cannon would be present. We asked permission and our very own "drex" thought it would be a great idea. Back then there were no endzone stands so Boomer would be placed way back up on the grass. During the game we sat up there with our lounge chairs watching and waiting for a score that never came. At one point I actually fell asleep. As luck would have it the game ended in a 0-0 tie so they played the extra period and again, a 0-0 tie. However, we still had a loaded "Boomer" in the south endzone that had to be unloaded, and there's only one way to safely unload it. So as the players started to shake hands and the 40 or so parents and fans who were in the stands started to make their way down onto the field, I fired "Boomer" off, a really good, chest thumper. It was so good that several auto alarms in the parking lot behind the AD offices were set off. Evidently everyone, including the AD staff on hand had forgotten we were even there because the sound was deafining and scared the sh#t out of everyone. Even worse was the fact that the stadium was empty which makes the sound that much louder. Players in mid hand-shake jumped a foot in the air or ducted down as they turned our direction. No one thought it was funny, but us? The referee who was headed for the sideline turned and yelled something at us that didn't sound too kind either. The Air Force guys just stood there and you could tell a few people were having to catch their breath because there is rarely a cannon at a college soccer game and no one was expecting it at all. It was strange, but funny at the same time. The look on people's faces was classic. Needless to say we were never invited back but I think we would have had we scored and helped put the punctuation on each score like at the football games. I think it would be great to see "Boomer" make a return to the ladies soccer games as he did for the Spring Game this year. The players seemed to have gotten a kick out of it? Rick1 point

Thanks, I'll check it out. By the way, for you older Rocker fans, Three Dog Night is on PBS right now. Unbelievable, those guys still got it after 40 years. I went to a Beach Boys concert in which Three Dog Night and America opened up for. The Beach Boys came on stage to introduce Three Dog Night and led with the question: "Can you believe we used to open up for these guys in 196?". Rick1 point

It's funny, I had not heard of some of the groups ya'll listed, or rather, most of those under ground bands. But it's funny to go to a site like ColumbiaHouse.com and pull up one of these newer bands such as Fuel or Incubus and over to the right it will have a sidebar that say's, "If you like Fuel, you may like:" and then there will be listings of other groups with similar sounds. Such as if you put in Incubus then you will get Red Hot Chili Peppers or one of their sound a like groups from the past. If you keep going you eventually get to what ever generation of music you may have grown up with say back to the 80's or 70's. Just keep clicking on a band and you will eventually end up with say Ratt, Motely Crux, ACDC and even Black Sabbath, which started in 1970. You think Small Brown Bike will still be recording and selling in 2036? But I guess my main question is, are we then to believe that groups from Sabbaths era led to what we have today? If I am to assume this trend will continue in teh direction it's headed then I'm going to get my big horse shoeing file and an old brake drum out of the shed and hit the nearest studio because there's some money to be made out there. On a more serious note, are the days of the great rock guitarists gone? You just don't hear much llead quitar music anymore. What happen to the sounds and styles of Hendrix, Schone of Journey(1971 at the age of 14 performed in a studio in front of Santana and Eric Clapton and both attempted to hire the young man on the spot),Van Halen, Rhodes, Tipton/Downing, Carlisi, Hagar, Santana, Mars, Clapton, Bettencourt, Satriani, Ray Vaughn, all with their own types of lead style licks and riffs in Rock? I don't hear anyone talking about it on the radio who's the best, or DJ's playing licks in certain songs over and over just for fun like they used to. From the 60's through the early 90's there were different styles of lead Rock guitar. Each new generation adding to what the past had taught them but it seems to have died sometime after Stevie Ray left us. Now the guitar seems to be only used for rhythm. Any thoughts? Rick1 point
