  1. If Riley was a quitter, I don't think he would have played with a broken wrist against Lafayette. He's a class act and a really nice guy. I wish him nothing but the best.

  2. Nobody likes watching us get our heads bashed in when we play "guarantee" games. And nobody likes going to Austin, Norman or Baton Rouge knowing those teams will never come to Fouts. So, my question, is this...why not branch out and replace these teams with teams further away but still higher up the food chain than us? Minnesota seats 50,805. Rutgers seats 52,454. Purdue seats 62,500. Northwestern, who just played in Dallas, seats just over 47,000. There are teams that, while they won't give us the million dollar guarantees would write us a pretty decent check and...wait for it...might even consider coming to our place. Before anyone says "they'd never play in our stadium b/c it's too small and they have no reason to come to Denton" think about it before just assuming. How often do these teams get to come into the metroplex? How many of them recruit Texas in general and this area in specific. Think Purdue wouldn't like to have kids from Houston, San Antonio or Austin come watch them play a short drive away? And, unlike Texas or OU, these schools don't have alumni bases in the metroplex that are so large we couldn't accomodate. Did K-State overrun our stadium? I know, I know, kids want to play the "big boys." Are you honestly telling me that a kid who is considering NT would decide not to because he's gonna travel to play Iowa State or Minnesota instead of UT? I don't buy that for a second and I think it's just become gospel because it's been repeated enough times. Why continue to play these games where we have EVERYTHING to lose and nothing to gain except the pay check? No, I'm sorry, these are not "opportunity" games. At least not until you build the program for a while by WINNING and begin to use that to recruit the players who are capable of beating the "big boys." Boise didn't become who they are by scheduling murderer's row...at least not in the beginning. They drew players in by winning first. Until then it's just scrimmmage for sale. Call me crazy if you want, but I think with a little creativity we could use our new stadium to our advantage instead of just as a place to return to after taking a brutal beating in week 1.

  3. Dear (insert QB name who transferred in January with 2 years of eligibility remaining) : I appreciate (insert specific game where you gutted out a solid performance despite taking a horrible physical pounding) and I'll never forget the excitement we had when you signed on to play for us in ( 1) 2007 / 2) 2008) . Seeing you sacrifice your body for a losing team was inspiring and humbling, and I'll always be grateful for the courage you showed on the field. To hear that you've decided to transfer away from a team that needed you so badly is heartbreaking ( 1) but completely understandable / 2) and an obvious sign of deep moral failing) . I know it wouldn't have been the same for you to try and carry on here without your ( 1) father / 2) best friend) , and I ( 1) totally understand / 2) hope you die of syphilis) . You gave a commitment to this team. You gave your word that you'd fight and struggle alongside your teammates. Those other guys were relying on your impressive physical talent and leadership. But instead, almost at the end of the window this team has to replace you, you've decided to move on and look for a fresh start somewhere else. ( 1) It must have been hard, but I respect that difficult choice and I say: "good for you". / 2) Die, die, die you godless animal, I hate you with ever fiber of my being. In the end, there's one thing we can all agree on as members of the North Texas family: Most of the blame for this probably belongs with your dad.

  5. Are you of Greek descent? Do you like to SCUBA dive? Do you live in Connecticut? Do you have over 11K posts? Ever put stadium legislation on your back and get it passed? Sorry Eagle1855, you (like myself) are not Top 10 material. Your rudimentary plan will fail quickly. You need to try and join some of us in the Mid-Major reputation poll.

  7. We played 7 of our regular season games against Texas D-1 basketball teams. That's all but 4 of our D-1 non conference schedule and 1/4th of our total schedule.

  10. Wherever he ends up I'll be rooting for him. He played his butt off for us despite numerous injuries, and never quit, including playing 3 quarters with a broken wrist and only losing by a PAT. Good Luck Riley!

  11. I understand that but he was recruited here to play QB. I'm guessing Coach Mac had informed him he wasn't going to be the QB. This transfer was probably just as appreciated by the new coaching staff as it was by Riley. I think it was mutually beneficial to both parties. Riley's not the QB to get us to the next level. UNT is not the program for Riley anymore. Add the father factor in and I don't blame him. I thought he handled the whole situation publicly with class and continues to. I see where a lot of transfers get labeled as "quitters" but I think there were special circumstances in this case. and again, it's not like Riley is leaving us high and dry. Riley and Todd Dodge both handled the whole situation with class.

  14. Good luck to Riley. Classy kid and fun to watch, he left it all on the field in games. As a parent I would be concerned about his decision to continue as QB with his injury history. I understand his great desire to play but his future health would seem more important to me.

  15. I guess I missed something, why do many think that Dodge could not play QB at NT next year? Based on last year I would have thought he would be the best bet for starter.

  16. Another head scratcher by a NT QB. First, just like Vizza no one can question Dodge's play and effort on the field. I guess playing for a school that fired your dad is too tough. I would have though staying with your teammates and finishing at NT would be preferable to a fc division program for Dodge. However, I have appreciated Riley for the past three years and have been in awe of his competitiveness, best luck to him wherever he ends up. .

  17. I think I'd argue he was able to take the hits more successfully than the two guys that started before him this year... Just sayin. **crosses fingers for a Matt Vizza like barrage from Todge soon**

  24. I said eight as an illustration. My point was that there are a few people that are opposed to UNT no matter what it does, and they pretty much run the assoc. Most people in Denia, as is the rule in Denton in general, are fairly ambivalent towards UNT, and a few, such as myself, who are supporters. It is a tempest in a teapot, but the only reason anyone pays any attention is that this teapot happens to contain the Mean Green Village and the stadium. There are probably just as many people who are anti-UNT in every neighborhood in town, and the jackwaggons in my neighborhood should be given the same amount of attention as those who might live on the other side of town, none. They knew, same as I did, that when they bought their houses they were moving into a neighborhood next to a large and growing university that is going to do things to further it's mission. If they don't like it they should have picked another neighborhood.

  25. Fixed it for you. Not many of us would want to go see UNT play a home & home with SMUt or TCU would you?

  26. It won't be. The only early round site anywhere close to Texas is Tulsa. The other games are in D.C., Tucson, Denver, Tampa, Cleveland, Charlotte, and Chicago. Looking at what seeds Tulsa hosts, I don't think we'll end up there. And besides... A session ticket for the Tulsa games is $237. A full Sun Belt tournament ticket book costs $90 through North Texas, and four days of accommodations plus tickets will come out to a total of around $230-250, total. For a 4 day trip where every day is like a bowl game, and only two of those days are typical work days. Plus, as great as it was to see us play the tournament game in person... NCAA days are a lot better on TV when you can see all the games and upsets. If I absolutely had to choose between Hot Springs or NCAA tournament, having experienced both... I'd take Hot Springs and watch the NCAAs on TV.

  27. Don't care, don't care, don't care. Any way we get there is fine with me. We just need to start rehearsing the 1:46 a.m. "I'm Pregnant" speech. This late night hook-up is going to LAST.

  28. That statement would have meant something 20 or 30 years ago but when 70 out of 120 schools can sell recruits that they are a bowl team that doesn't say much of anything.

  45. As long as you buy your tickets in advance (don't buy as a walk-up every day) you shouldn't have to worry about it. Buying as a walk up could be a problem if UALR and ASU both made decent runs in the tournament, or if either has a strong regular season and looks like a strong contender. Lodgings may be a problem. Hotels, especially walking distance hotels, do fill up early. The team hotels and the ones within a block or two of the arena book up quickly. As you've ready here, some are already telling people they're full up, 2 months in advance. But if you're driving in, you can go with a hotel a little farther out. There's no charge for parking at the arena, so you won't be spending any money there. We did the hotel thing the first year at Hot Springs, and I think we stayed at a Knights Inn about 10 minutes from the arena and bathhouse row. Didn't reserve it until the week before.

  46. If anyone is planning on going with a group of at least 2 or 3 friends or family, let me know if you want help finding a rental house or condo. Last year, we had 6 people in a 2 bedroom 2 bath house that was walking distance to the arena and bathhouse row, and it cost a little less than $95 per person total for all four nights. This year, we've got 11-15 people in a 3 story, 5 bedroom/4.5 bathroom lake house, and it's going to come out to about $140-165 apiece total for all four nights. Theater room, boat slip, pool table... Should be nice. If you travel with a group, it can be very reasonable if you shop around for a rental instead of a hotel. We've done hotels and house rentals, and it's a great time either way. With a hotel, you can check out early if things don't go well for us and you aren't interested in the rest of the event. With a house, it tends to run cheaper and you get the comfort and amenities of a full living space. Whatever anyone does, I strongly encourage everyone to make the trip. Especially this year. ?
