  3. You realize this is Craig Way's career you are speaking of right? Rich too....Hell I work on the SMU broadcast and am a NT alum. Because Rich and Craig might get a little 'homerish' is because they have invested time and energy in their work. Also, it's probably because they have gotten to know some good people in the programs. Believe it or not there are good people at other schools, not just UNT. Some here like to give me shit because I work on the SMU radio crew.....well I guess they can do that if they like. However, I would argue those people don't have a fucking clue about my career or the industry. They just want to throw rocks because an alum is not championing their rooting interest. There are 119 of these jobs in D1 football. If your career is in radio or play by play - you don't pass up chances to get one of them. No matter what your diploma says. Hell, Hank went to KU. Do you think it's fair for Jayhawk fans to bash him in a public forum, because he is doing what is best for both he and his family? You are a cop right?? Do you work in the town you grew up in? Chances are no....if you did great, but if not I can't imagine that anyone here would throw hate your way because of it.

  4. Thanks for the suggestions about file sharing sites. I hope this works! Here are several favorites from the McAdow days including the original fight song. Please remember that these were recorded using vacuum tubes (boy, am I getting old!) The first link is the famous fanfare that Silver Eagle often writes about. It is from a Wagner opera and was played before the band entered the field for pregame. Pregame usually consisted of a march down the field. Then we turned to face the visitor's stands and played their fight song. Then into a block formation facing the home stands for the alma mater, then another formation for the national anthem, usually conducted by the visiting team's director if they happened to bring their band. Then off the field playing the fight song. The fight song is the original version as posted earlier. You'll recognize the melody of course, but this arrangement is completely different. "Glory to the Green" was sung by four guys out of the band! The other three tunes are representative of what we played on the field. "Colonel Bogey" was often used when the band was marching in a precision formation. "Them Basses" was a McAdow favorite played in the stands. "Robinson's Grand Entry" is a circus march that was sometimes played as the band was finishing its half-time show. It was transition music as we moved into an interlocking NT or NTS formation. The band then launched into the fight song while in those formations and marched off the field. Someone suggested that we have a throwback show and play the fight song as originally written. A few years ago when we were having a marching band reunion to raise money for a McAdow scholarship fund. I wrote the current director suggesting we do this for that occasion but did not receive the courtesy of a reply. I hope everyone enjoys these. http://www.4shared.com/audio/-KRZCKDa/Fanfare.html http://www.4shared.com/audio/zEG3AL-p/Fight_Song.html http://www.4shared.com/audio/32Ad3Jb3/Glory_to_the_Green.html http://www.4shared.com/audio/G-16LAVI/Robinsons_Grand_Entry.html http://www.4shared.com/audio/TOtq8Xuy/Them_Basses.html http://www.4shared.com/audio/k01m56JN/Colonel_Bogey.html

  5. Isn't it a testament to the quality education that radio people get at UNT that other universities have our graduates doing play by play for their teams? I think we should take it as a compliment.

  6. I'll address what you call "the dirty truth." NT has provided Denton with sales tax revenue from 30,000+ students, faculty and staff for years. NT has provided Denton with facilities to host events that draws people to Denton to stay in their hotels, eat in their resturants and shop in their retail outlets. Those apartments around campus wouldn't provide customers to the electric coop, rental income to land owners and property taxes to the city without the North Texas. I wish someone would provide an economic impact study showing the effects North Texas has on the Denton community. The dirty truth is that Denton has been mismanaged for years, has the worst streets in the Metroplex, has run economic developers away to neigboring cities over minute issues (Fry Street) and has sucked off of the NT/TWU teet for years, yet never misses an opportunity to champion a vocal minority, Denia residents, or to rundown North Texas. A mutual partnership would do wonders for Denton, but they just can't let North Texas grow in to the university it should be, because they continue to wish it were the sleepy little Teacher's College from years ago.

  9. First, do you think that the media will ever recognize TCU as Co-National Champions? They may very well be considered #2 behind the winner of next week's championship game but, if that game is close, will probably stay at #3. I have a granddaughter who goes to TCU and I'm glad for her and the TCU fans. But, why such love for TCU? Will they play us, even as much as SMU? No. Are they on our future schedule? No. Will they be future conference mates? When pigs fly. I don't have anything against TCU and I really like Fort Worth but until they even acknowledge that we exist they'll never sit atop my pedestal.

  10. What's the point of this thread anyway? We would have been thrilled with an invite to a bowl, any bowl for that matter. Looks about like the Super Dome did during our New Orleans Bowls, so why are we wasting bandwidth to run down a program many of could care less about? Smacks of envy and I think that reflects poorly on us as fans of NT.

  14. I don't have a problem with the Denia Association wanting to have a say. However they need to be reasonable and i'm not sure that expecting no traffic on gamedays to affect their neighborhood is realistic. As someone else said, have you ever been to Norman on gameday? Hell, any Div I program is going to create traffic on gameday. My HUGE problem with this editorial by the DRC is that they (DRC) say they have no idea which plan put forth is better or more reasonable but hey, we're gonna side with the Denia neighborhood. What kind of newspaper says they no nothing about the subject but chooses a side and writes an editorial about it. Isn't an editorial supposed to be a analysis of the facts and then giving an opinion? What a load of crap. And Harry, unless i'm mistaken, this is a DRC editorial. It was issued by the DRC, not anyone from Denia.

  15. Very true. TCU has not been a "little guy" for almost a decade, so some of Patterson's comments are a bit lame, IMO. The bottom line is that TCU neglected their program for years, got left out of the initial realignment when the B12 formed, and finally got their act together again. TCU has more national championships in football than any other old SWC school not named Texas. Their program was ignored and left fallow for years, and after they were denied membership to the B12, they finally took a look at their program and decided they needed to do something rather than suck hind tit and ride coattails as they had for decades after their heyday in the late '30's and '50's. Congratulations to TCU for getting serious about funding their program, to Patterson for building it, and to their alumni for finally stepping up again. Their success shows what happens when everyone connected to the program works toward the same goal. Very good to see TCU go in there and whip a traditional power--although TCU has more national championships, conference titles, and bowl appearances than Wisconsin. But it's always better to keep up the myth of David and Goliath. Makes for a much better story.

  16. Yes. The MWC media sees any CUSA West school as an expansion candidate, even though it's very doubtful that's the case. Because of our past few years in football and SBC affiliation, we're basically the 1:45 AM girl. It's 1:30, if the MWC wants to take someone back home from Texas, they're running out of options.

  17. The MWC should consider UH & UNT. Then they would have the 2 largest media markets in Texas and the 3rd & 4th largest universities in the state.

  18. I know that every year we collectively toast the new year and proclaim that we will do all kinds of outlandish shizz like "eat better", "exercise more", "be more frugal" or "have more sex" knowing that, for the most part (cuz I'm seriously gonna try for that last one), we have no real intention of chance of meeting these goals. Sooooo I thought here's a chance to make a resolution to do something we can easily do...and help our deal ol' alma mater in the process. Tonight, when you raise that champagne glass, or vodka tonic, or shiner, or glass of milk, resolve to ATTEND MORE UNT MEN'S BASKETBALL GAMES!!!! You can start Saturday at 4:30pm when UL-Lafayette comes to the Super Pit. The reasons to do so are myriad while the reasons not to are stupid. Reasons to attend: North Texas is 12-2 North Texas is making a habit of blowing teams out lately (including LSU) North Texas is undefeated in league play currently (when's the last time you could say that of the football team and expect it to stay that way?) Four words: WE ARE NORTH TEXAS...and that "we" includes "you" Conference realignment talk is really fun...showing that we as a fan base support ALL of our sports lends substance to these discussions instead of making them pipe dreams we refuse to help make reality. Ben Knox dunked last night...twice! And converted an "and one" It's a Saturday. The "I work and have to drive in traffic" excuse is null and void. North Texas isn't playing in any of those New Year's day bowls. None of them. They all have sufficiently large fan bases to cheer them on...let's cheer on OUR team. The "I'm not a basketball person" excuse literally translates to "I'm not a North Texas person". Again, if you enjoy watching your football in the Sun Belt then by all means send CUSA, MWC, etc the message loud and clear that we don't support our athletic program as a whole. I'm sure that $78 million stadium will be a great home for Sun Belt champions for years and years to come. Did I mention that this senior class of hoops players is DAMN GOOD. Why wouldn't you go to watch a team with "North Texas" across their chest WIN???

  19. Since attending games is out of the question due to the 1200 miles that seperates me from Denton, I will heed your challenge and resolve to purchase Men's BB season tickets this year, for 2011-2012 season, and donate them to the AD.

  20. Look, a guy steps up and creates a new bowl in Dallas at the historic Cotton Bowl (where the Cotton Bowl probably should still be played with the "Jerry Bowl" getting a new name) with his own money, gets the NCAA certification, gets it on New Year's Day and pretty much hits break even on ticket sales his first year. Not attendance, mind you, which is why the Cotton Bowl was about 1/3 full for the game (those early morning temps didn't help walk up numbers), but pretty much break-even the first year anyway. I was really shocked that the vocal Texas Tech fan base did not support this bowl game with many many more fans, but it just shows that sometimes "talk" is cheap but "action" takes a bit more commitment. I applaud the guy for getting the Bowl up and going, and hope he can "sell out" next year and then "sell" the bowl to an organization that will run it for years to come. Why? Well, it's is good for the area from a financial standpoint. Hotel sales, food sales, etc., etc. Plus, some local folks get to make a bit of New Year's day cash working the game, and Fair Park gets another opportunity for use. I, for one, appreciate that they guy put his money on the line for this bowl game. I am just disappointed a bit that the "local" team had such a poor turnout and that the City of Dallas itself did not do more to support the game. Maybe next year...heck, I hope the Mean green are playing in the TicketCity Bowl in Dallas next year if not in New Orleans as SBC champs! Too many bowl games, probably. But, if UNT were to have played in that game, would any of the Mean Green faithful want to turn down the opportunity? GO MEAN GREEN....Congts to the organizers of the TicketCity Bowl. Tech folks...you should have done much better to support your team.

  25. At work this morning. Worst excuse so far by a TCU alumn as to why they were not there yesterday:...... . . . . . . . Wait for it..... . . . . . . IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE!??????????? So you could justify paying $1265 per hour for 4 years but couldn't handle forking over the money to buy a ticket and roughly 150 gallons of fuel to see your team play in a game that only happens every 75 or so years for you? LOL!!!!!!! Rick

  26. After the TX/OU game in 09. I saw Craig Way at Fouts. He may be the voice of the Horns (a job a LOT of broadcasters want) but he still loves NT. I actually think he does a damn fine job as the voice of the Longhorns. His radio show is kind of boring. Where he really shines is High School football. He's a damn encyclopedia

  27. Mustangs are typically smaller then most horse breeds, but fast. Not particularly strong for a horse, again light and fast as I remember. I seem to remember that baby horses usually called colts, but in the case of mustangs they are many times called mustang ponies. Basically though mustangs were called ponies because they are smaller.

  28. Good greif seriously? Yes they graduated from NT but they work for SMU and UT respectively. Rich Phillips has been the play by play for SMU for a really long time....so yes he will be a fan of theirs. He doesn't put NT down. As for Craig Way I can't say I know a ton about him but he's the play by play for UT...so automatically he will have some sort of rooting interest for UT which is understandable and common sense. Your dogging of Rich Phillips and Craig way is a complete joke.

  38. Screw them they moved in next to the University, UNT owes them nothing. I have seen this crap with airports. The answer is expect Universities to grow and buy a house accordingly if that is a problem for you. Maybe we can get the state to come in and condemn the whole Denia area if they continue to bitch.

  39. Most of Texas State's programs will have to catch up to their baseball program. But with their great location, enrollment and recent commitment to athletics that is exactly what they would do if they were to enter the Belt. We then would have a very close conference road trip that would be the envy of the rest of the conference. Imagine every other year in the fall having the chance to make a short trip down to God's country to see the Mean Green play? Sweet! Rick

  41. Who cares, build the Sunbelt. The Belt has a legitimate chance to go 3-0 against the MAC during this Bowl Season. The Mountain didn't do anything for TCU that they couldn't have done in C-USA other than waste millions of travel money every year(that North Texas doesn't have) and distance their true fans(what few they have) from ever getting to attend away conference games. Again, build the Sunbelt! Rick

  42. What a fantastic game. If you didn't stay up for this one, you missed the best bowl game so far. FIU comes from behind being down 24-7, takes the lead at the end, loses it when Toledo goes for a two point conversion to make it 32-31 with 1:14 left in the game. Then FIU, trying to march back for the final lead takes two sacks, but uses a hook and ladder to convert the 4th and 17 and works the ball down and kicks a 34 yarder with no time left on the clock. Great game, and the Sunbelt is now 2-0 vs the MAC this bowl season. Build the Belt! Rick

  45. The all time fan favorite was and is the Hayden Fry era Flying Worm. We couldn't keep any of that merchandise stocked at Greenstock. With that being said, the new SOW has taken up where it left off. Second to that is the Alumni Associations' interlinked "NT" logo, which screams of real time collegiate flair we so badly need. So we already have two great logos, the SOW and the interlinked NT. And by far the most popular merchandise available in stores right now incorporates the SOW with Mean Green somewhere on it. And whenever this Mean Green gear is found in stores this NT merchandise is either sold out or very low in supply. So knowing this, that even though this fan base has loyally followed a losing football program AND still buys it's merchandise up in stores, isn't it just like North Texas that the AD Dept still REFUSES to take advantage of combining the two and give their loyal customers what they want, their favorite logo on the most recognized aspect of athletics, the football helmet, which is something that every other major program in the nation has done for decades?
