  1. Yes. GMG will always allow us be as stupid as we want to be.

  2. Good greif seriously? Yes they graduated from NT but they work for SMU and UT respectively. Rich Phillips has been the play by play for SMU for a really long time....so yes he will be a fan of theirs. He doesn't put NT down. As for Craig Way I can't say I know a ton about him but he's the play by play for UT...so automatically he will have some sort of rooting interest for UT which is understandable and common sense. Your dogging of Rich Phillips and Craig way is a complete joke.

  3. I know that every year we collectively toast the new year and proclaim that we will do all kinds of outlandish shizz like "eat better", "exercise more", "be more frugal" or "have more sex" knowing that, for the most part (cuz I'm seriously gonna try for that last one), we have no real intention of chance of meeting these goals. Sooooo I thought here's a chance to make a resolution to do something we can easily do...and help our deal ol' alma mater in the process. Tonight, when you raise that champagne glass, or vodka tonic, or shiner, or glass of milk, resolve to ATTEND MORE UNT MEN'S BASKETBALL GAMES!!!! You can start Saturday at 4:30pm when UL-Lafayette comes to the Super Pit. The reasons to do so are myriad while the reasons not to are stupid. Reasons to attend: North Texas is 12-2 North Texas is making a habit of blowing teams out lately (including LSU) North Texas is undefeated in league play currently (when's the last time you could say that of the football team and expect it to stay that way?) Four words: WE ARE NORTH TEXAS...and that "we" includes "you" Conference realignment talk is really fun...showing that we as a fan base support ALL of our sports lends substance to these discussions instead of making them pipe dreams we refuse to help make reality. Ben Knox dunked last night...twice! And converted an "and one" It's a Saturday. The "I work and have to drive in traffic" excuse is null and void. North Texas isn't playing in any of those New Year's day bowls. None of them. They all have sufficiently large fan bases to cheer them on...let's cheer on OUR team. The "I'm not a basketball person" excuse literally translates to "I'm not a North Texas person". Again, if you enjoy watching your football in the Sun Belt then by all means send CUSA, MWC, etc the message loud and clear that we don't support our athletic program as a whole. I'm sure that $78 million stadium will be a great home for Sun Belt champions for years and years to come. Did I mention that this senior class of hoops players is DAMN GOOD. Why wouldn't you go to watch a team with "North Texas" across their chest WIN???

  4. Might wanna stop there. Your hole is deep enough that you can barely see out of it as it is.

  5. Remember, most of the rest of the games are double headers meaning actual start time is 7:30. No excuses, be there!

  9. What? It can't be...there are OTHER DT's still not committed that UNT could actually go after? I thought we were holding a scholly waiting on the last DT in the whole world to sign. WOW! Imagine that! Thanks for the link Lifer.

  10. If anyone ever wondered what an argument between Joe Morgan and Michael Sturns would sound like... This is probably a pretty good approximation.

  11. I don't see a league with program budget issues and a misguided overemphasis on football passing up the Missouri Valley conference. The 150 rule isn't going to magically generate revenue or raise the level of give-a-damn at some of the programs that kill our RPI... It will just minimize the damage that they can do. Passing the MVC means passing a conference where everyone treats basketball as the main priority, and everyone takes it seriously. Not likely to happen.

  12. It's kinda simple. UNT goes out and tries to get other DL linemen committed that can help the program. If, by the time this kid decides he wants to sign, we have filled all of our DT spots in recruiting, well, sorry guy, should have signed sooner. But, untill we reach that point, we NEVER slam the door on a talented kid who wants to come here, even if it takes him until Jan. 15 to make that decision.

  13. Man they really showed us how it's done. Great lock of the week Cowlishaw.

  14. Oh, sorry. Lost my head...this kid is the very last possibility in the country UNT has to land a DT. What was I thinking? Look, whoever is giving me minus points for this opinion, good for you, but I am sticking with the idea to give the kid a deadline. Doesn't mean he couldn't sign with UNT...do you really understand that? Just means that if you are not sure then we can't wait around hanging fire until you are sure. So, if you want to keep the scholly UNT offered you have "X" amount of time to sign. After that, we will pull the offer and start looking elsewhere. Seems to me this is the same thing the kid is doing to UNT. He says...UNT, you aren't good enough for me to sign now, but keep that scholly open for me as long as I want to string you along and if a better deal doesn't come along, I'll sign with you. Right, that's not my idea of the way to handle this situation. All you who think otherwise, good for you, you have your opinion, but I'm staying with this one...works for me, and I'd darn sure play it out if I could at UNT. But, since this kid is the very last DT in the whole world that UNT could possibly sign maybe UNT had better play the "poor needy university" and let this kid string it along until a better offer develops. I'd put on a full court recruiting press to find a different DT and offer the kid. Trust me, there really are others capable still uncommitted and unsigned...perhaps even some overlooked JUCO's.

  15. Agreed. AGREED. The MWC spends more, succeeds at a higher level, and carries more national respect than C-USA. Don't get me wrong... I'd definitely take C-USA over the Sun Belt. But too many people here still get their dick hard fantasizing about potentially hobnobbing with the butt-scraping bottom of the old SWC and a bunch of private schools. Even the "regional" advantages are blown way out of proportion. I can't help but laugh a little every time I read about how being in a conference with other Texas schools like UTEP makes C-USA such a great fit for us. Because El Paso is the same road trip as Mobile, Alabama, just in the opposite direction. So much of the griping and complaining about or athletics programs centers on either a perceived disrespect from other institutions or perceived inferiority complexes among our leadership and alumni. So why are so many people here hoping dreaming wishing pining for a chance to maybe beg our way into a league with a bunch of do nothing shitsacks (and Memphis) who will see us as a tagalong lesser program, instead of hoping we can JUMP OVER ALL OF THEM to a better conference affiliation altogether? Even with the TCU/Utah/BYU departures, the Mountain West is DRAMATICALLY better in both football and basketball than Conference USA. If there's any way to get in there, we ought to be trying to batter down the door day and night.

  18. I was listening earlier to the SMU radio broadcast and it was almost embarrassing. One broadcaster is decent (guy from the Ticket), while the other guy sounds like he should be broadcasting High School football. I don't think we realize how lucky we are to have George and Hank, I would put them up against anyone. The football broadcasts are top notch. Thanks George and Hank, we appreciate all you do!!

  19. New head coach, former OU offensive coordinator and OL coach, Kevin Wilson New offensive coordinator, former Boise State OC, Brent Pease Those two have coached some explosive offenses over the past few seasons. How long will it take them to make the Hoosiers fly, if ever? I'll be more interested in this game than the game against Houston.

  22. Love Gorge and Hank. As for SMU, wouldn't know. Never found the need to listen to an SMu radio broadcast. I am a UNT fan, after all.

  23. Rudy's stance is hilarious. If you're a UNT grad you must be for UNT all the time, no matter who you work for. But I bet he'd drop a brick if an alum from another university who worked for UNT rooted for their alma mater, right? I'd hate to have this guy as an employee if was his supervisor at another university because who knows if he'd ever get his work done.

  24. Agree 100%. Then make sure the media writes something to the effect that "UNT offered, the kid committed, we waited then pulled the offer when the kid didn't sign. We need to make a statement and quit playing second fiddle.
    1 point
  25. Yep. They're broadcasters who took an opportunity to call college football games. As the voice of those schools, they're going to have some affiliation with them regardless of where they went to school. Do UNT alums expect all of our great radio/TV graduates to only work for UNT? Seems like a tough way to make a living waiting for George to get tired of calling our games.
    1 point
  26. Really? Did you even see the link? So, you think the kid is the last DT on the face of the earth? You need to get out more. Heard a great analogy last night before the men's basketball game...It's sort of like asking someone to the prom but letting them know they were on "stand-by" until and if no one else better could be found. I don't think UNT needs to be the "stand-by" prom date. If that's OK with you, it's just another reflection of why UNT gets so little respect from its alumni base. Too many are more than happy to be the "stand-by" prom date. Not me! And, by the way...time has run out...48 hours gone...I'd pull the scholly offer now and let the chips fall where they may. Good luck getting that Miami offer. See ya! I'll be out looking for that "fat kid" with the "want to" to play for UNT in the first place. Too many good things are happening for the Mean Green to play this "standby" game! Go Mean Green!

  27. My excitement comes more from Army winning rather than SMU losing. Pretty decent game, and very good to see all three of the largest service academies in bowl games. First time for Army in a good long time. Way to go Cadets! Now, to all the Army seniors who will soon be commissioned and head out to help defend this great nation of ours...THANK you for your service and may God go with you. You have my everlasting thanks and appreciation and I will keep each and every one of you in my thoughts and prayers! Great win but done by and even greater bunch of young leaders for this great nation of ours!

  32. Honestly, I'm neither happy nor sad that smoo lost. They are so irrelevent on the local and national stage, the outcome of the game meant very little in the landscape of D1 college football. The McCarney Era will soon overshadow anything June Jones is doing in University Park, and the ponies will still be best remembered for their death penalty experience. ...and yes, I root openly for the service acadamies except when they are playing us and then I still admire them greatly.

  33. The A$M broadcasts are bad. You don't really now what's going on in the game. Craig Way is a very good sportscaster and proud to be from NT. I'm just amazed that George and Hank never completely lost their sanity through the Dodge disaster. They do a good presentation.

  38. One other semi-rhetorical question... If the particulars of HOW and WHY a kid comes to play at North Texas are so important... If it's absolutely critical that he love us first, most, only, and to the exclusions of all others anywhere and everywhere... If an athlete taking any and all time available to make sure it's the right decision is such a grievous insult to our institutional honor that we ought to withdraw the option to join our football program... Why would we ever take transfers? Or JUCO players at all, for that matter?
    1 point
  39. Ditto. I hear Craig Way on his daily talk show on 1300AM in Austin. He never shys away from claiming his alma mater, and is very complimentary of North Texas. But UT is the one that writes his checks, it's his job to 'root' for the Horns.

  46. Global warming like all other studies (eggs, coffee, tea, butter, ice cream, women)depends on what scientific group or non-scientific group recieved sums of cash to come up with the statistical data (you can prove both sides of an argument with the same statistical data...) that the group who gave you the cash wants. Who is not to say that the group that said global cooling is the the cause of global warming was the same group a couple of years ago that said global warming is the cause of global cooling? Goes to show that some of us are just whores for money. Behind all of this is Soros, Bush, Gore and other international bankers who have funded communist revolutions throughout the world since 1900 killing billions of innocent patriots of freedom in Russia (1917-present), Mexico (1920's) Spain (1930's), Germany (1920's), China (1944-present), S.E. Asia (1940's-present), Tabago (1981)and Lau-Ak-Akee in the Marshal Islands (1974). Ok.....I was just kidding about Sorros, Bush & Gore and the last sentence........too much coffee.....

  47. But, the context wasn't the entirety of time, it is much like the alarmist of today with global warming. Some, just like global warming, were predicting the ice age as soon as 20 years from that date. Well, 20 years came and went, and nothing. That's why so many see these global warming alarmist (the really nutty ones) as nothing more than the little boy that cried wolf. God, I hate the off-season. Even the political threads are tired retreads.

  48. Uh, never said that, but thanks for putting words in my mouth (so scared using that terminology in this thread). Each and everyone should view the research from BOTH SIDES (gee, what a concept) and then make their own decision WHICH OTHERS SHOULD RESPECT. The point of the story was to illustrate how people focus mainly on what affects them and what they perceive that they affect. Do you think that woman researched world temperatures to come to her global warming conclusion or just decided that since it was a warm winter that particular year (never mind 2 winters earlier there was record snowfall), and that was what she was immediately feeling and experiencing, then it must be because the world is warming, right? Because that is what she hears on the news. According to that woman's way of thinking, it looks like global warming has come to North Texas, since this winter has been milder than last.
