I'd love for UNT to become the kind of school that could HAVE an "attitude" if it wanted. I do not like attitude..(i.e. SMU). But I'd give anything if we could consistently improve and be steady force on all levels...so that when a Denton kid thought he was too "up and coming" for UNT....then go ahead and leave, play somewhere else if he can. And then later come to regret it cause he learns he actually missed out. I want car loads to drive by the stadium on game day and wish they were there with us. Kids leave Denton because they "envy" others on other campuses. I want them all "Green With Envy".....4 points

I dont recall anyone complaining about the Belt after NT beat the C-USA co- Champions in '02 in the N.O. Bowl, or after Troy routed Oklahoma St on an ESPN Thursday night game a couple years back, or after ULM beat Bama, or after ULL beat KState last year. Our conference had a down year this year even though our N.O. Bowl rep just destroyed the No. 2 MAC team a few nights ago on national TV. It will come back around and start to recover some lost respect and we will be the program to do it starting next season. Rick3 points

I think the bright kelly green of the current uniforms (and on clothing) really pops in combination with Black, but this is all so subjective. Here's what I'd do if I were making the uniform decisions - A green Jersey with white and black accents and a white jersey with green and black accents. Despite the fact that people say we look "High School" (and we don't because of our uniforms) I really don't have anything against the current Jersey - ...then have one of each color pant, Green, Black and White with the appropriate accent colors. This way we change up the look a bit and most everyone will be happy with at least one uniform combination. (except those who want no black, no matter what, even though black accents are present in the current official and approved logos and color scheme) ...I hated the white helmet when it first came out, but it has grown on me. ..and the official "North Texas" logo doesn't bother me too much, but if we're going to use words on the helmet, I'd rather see us using "Mean Green" instead of "North Texas". The SOW would be my first choice on the helmet however. I'd like a green that matches the bright kelly green (with silver metal flake, not bass boat metallic, but car paint metallic), but would be perfectly happy with the white if we'd add some pearl to the finish or something to make it pop a bit. Pearl with a tick of green flake would make the helmet pop and be VERY unique. (...can you tell I own a custom car shop? Maybe we can ghost in the SOW logo...) I always liked the interlocking NT, but it isn't an official UNT logo, and I think we don't need to be introducing ANYTHING new in terms of logo or colors. Play on the theme, but don't change the theme.2 points

I say North Texas should put the green back in "Mean Green." Using Glory to the Green and White as a lil inspiration, I present my idea for North Texas' new football uniforms. Base rules for the uniforms' design: The current shade of green had to remain. The old forest green doesn't show well on TV and incorporating multiple shades green wouldn't be recognized by people unfamiliar with the programs' history. North Texas had to remain on the helmet. This has been a trend over the past decade and keeping North Texas on the helmet only helps to strengthen the brand recognition of the program and school. Black is used only as an accent, not as a color equal to white or green. So much of the Dodge era was all white with black and green fighting it out for the #2 color. If anyone remembers the old secondary colors of "copper, black, and navy blue" in addition to the forest green and white, everything around the university seemed to have a palette of colors while green was an afterthought. Retaining white helmets: UNT's largest group of graduates has come from the Dodge era. Sticking to a helmet they are familiar with will help tie these alumni to the program. Although almost every other era of living alumni are use to green helmets, the familiar script logo helmets were used in as many seasons as the current white helmets. All green home uniforms: UNT's second largest living alumni base was in school during the successful Dickey era and are familiar with the all green uniforms. While some may think it echoes to high school level style, collegiate teams like the Arizona Wildcats and South Carolina Gamecocks regularly match a one color uniform with their white helmet. Away uniforms: In a better balance of UNT's colors, the white away jerseys would match perfectly with "Mean Green" pants. For the past few years, opposing teams couldn't even tell if they were playing the Mean Green or the "Mean White." Retaining the white helmets would also help to emphasis the school's colors, and create a familiar away uniform combination used by teams like the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Oklahoma State Cowboys.2 points

NT03 is right. UNT is in no position to be calling the shots right now. If we were to have a different conference affiliation, we'd be the bottom feeder in whatever conference that might be. Now, McCarney is here to change that. UNT is stepping up big time. If we don't start winning this conference, it won't matter what conference we want to be in.1 point

After working with many kids in the Southeast over the last 2 years, I can tell you this: These kids are far more likely to look hard at North Texas than go equal distances north. Even though it is 15 hours away, the kids still see Texas as the south. Meaning that they see the weather and brand of football as more their norm. I don't forsee a mass movement west for these kids, but getting in their ear is going to be a bit easier.1 point

I can't confirm a Troy offer. However, I can confirm that Akron offered and really wanted Osborn to visit to give them a chance. I can also tell you the Miami OH, Marshall, Vandy and Ole Miss had interest. Other offers came in from Texas State, Murray State, Tennessee Martin and few more FCS schools. Brent was not highly recruited in high school due to lack of experience at the position and a wishbone system. Coach Hatcher, now at Murray State, was at Georgia Southern. Hatcher is one the coaches out of the Tony Franklin system mold. After 2 seasons, Georgia Southern alums put great pressure on the program to go back to the option attack. Hatcher moved on the Murray, and GSU brought in Jeff Monken. Monken was a Paul Johnson option guru for 13 years. After going through spring drills, Osborn chose to move on to Northwest CC to find a system that fit his skill set a little better. There is no doubt that Osborn is a better fit in a pro-style or passing spread. He runs well enough to escape pressure and move the pocket. Osborn's recruiting did not take off until November 16th when he took it upon himself to get film and information out to coaches. For a JUCO QB that is a DEC entry, that is very late in the process. However, even though it was late, the reaction to Osborn's film was very positive by a number of schools. Prior to getting his film out, Brent was pretty much only looking at Murray State. It had to be hard for the young man not to follow Coach Hatcher to Murray, but UNT was just too nice to turn away. Having known the family for years, Brent and his family will make a great addition to the UNT family. It is always nice to add good people to a program. I thought he looked capable the few times he did run. Our problem is we'll compare every qb's mobility with Riley's, and you seldom see that in a quarterback. What Brent seems to have is a pretty quick release, and great accuracy. I think he'll do well in a Canales offense. Let the competition begin.1 point

Actually that game isn't finalized yet. It will either be Tulsa or a conference opponent. Houston is a home game on the 10th. Alabama is finalized for the 17th and Indiana for the 24th. It appears that Tulsa's hangup is Oklahoma. Tulsa visits OU but the date hasn't be set yet. I'm sure that Tulsa would rather open with us on the 3rd and travel to Oklahoma on the 10th or sometime later rather than have to open with them.1 point

Just Win baby. We will not be considered better than the new WAC unless we actually do something as a conference. We don't just get better by default1 point

Said it to a couple of you right after Coach Mac was hired but as many JUCO's he can get his first recruiting season the better; that is if they can get enrolled in our Spring semester and be here for Spring Football. Then next year he and staff can start their "mostly" HS recruiting modus operendi. We still need a JUCO QB IMO...Riley Dodge would be the starter, but he does need a collegiate proven back-up, too. co GMG!1 point

I will post this weekly. It is fun to watch how the numbers change. I got a little carried away, so I added a couple categories. The first column is overall home attendance, the second is the attendance for schools while the students are off campus, and the final two are for conference home and away games. We are doing pretty good so far. WKU and MTSU both have big home games against Louisville and Vanderbilt coming up in the next couple days, so that should change numbers a little bit. Enjoy! The overall SBC average is 2537. Not sure how this compares to previous years, but seems like a could be better, but could be worse sort of thing.1 point

The Sunbelt is bad....the new WAC is worse. But the Sunbelt is still nothing to brag about. Fortunately we play in FBS. We still need out ASAP.1 point

Including yesterday's New Orleans Bowl victory for Troy, the belt went 5-32 OOC this season for a .135 winning percentage. The wins came against 2-9 Bowling Green, FCS Austin Peay and Southeastern Lousiana, 4-8 UAB and Ohio. Only a single victory against a winning FBS team. Put as much lipstick on this thing as you want, but that's pretty piss poor performance as a conference.1 point
-
I'm not complaining about our home, I agree it's the best place for us right now. I'm simply trying to combat those who argue the greatness of the Belt. We can agree that it's a good fit right now without pretending that it's something it's not.1 point

So you don't know the answer, which is understandable. And I make attacks when attacked just as everyone else does. If you don't like it, don't start throwing the F bomb around without expecting a little poo thrown back your way. You bring it upon yourself. I have no idea where your getting to about me needing to fess up to an identity? Anyone here can find me this evening at Fouts and at just about every home game and NT event fairly easily. I and many other members of the GMG.com Nation don't understand why you continue to post on a North Texas fan message board. You have made it very clear on more than one occasion that you don't care about North Texas. Even further, I don't understand why you even read the Nest board where there is going to be a political topic or two? You obviously can't handle it. I expect the libs here to make snide, sarcastic remarks and I'll point them out with some of my own. See HoustonEagle's post above for example. But your about the only poster who truly can't handle it. It might be better you not read them at all? Rick1 point

LOL, so how much is the trip going to cost there drop out genius? Damn, you couldn't even make it at North Texas but you must know something the rest of us don't? So tell us, how much is the trip going to cost us? If it was $10 Million 12 to 15 years ago what is it in 2010? Of course they refuse to tell us. The truth is probably not far off from the original rumored price? Rick1 point

Don't be a part of the tU T SHIRT alumni or the Yankee T SHIRT alumni. This was an amazing season by our team. Baseball in late October and into November was a thrill of a lifetime for most of us. So it is that tomorrow is the day to show the T Shirt alumni bootlickers how to be proud of your team's accomplishments, win or lose. Wear your Ranger gear to work and hold your heads high. This is exactly right. Either the larger city should have what we have here in Fort Worth called "Mutual Aid" with the sourrounding areas, and the surrounding areas should have a volunteer organization. Why the two have no "Mutual Aid" agreement I have no idea? It would have been nice if that was included in the story. How does a larger municipality benefit through "Mutual Aid" agreements with tiny volunteer organizations in the outer regions? The largest benefit I can think of can be fighting wildland and grassfires which can put a lot of stress on a city system that is mostly designed around structural fire fighting. The volunteer organizations are usually better equipped to handle grass fires. We have severely damaged several large, half million dollar trucks over the years trying to fight grass fires when attempting to assist the limited number of brush trucks we do have in the city. Three months after I got out of the academy I worked a grass fire that lasted several days and at one point I counted over 60 separate volunteer departments who were called in from countless areas in the North Texas region to help us prevent it from burning down countless high dollar homes that bordered Eagle Mountain Lake and it's surrounding areas. We simply cannot protect all of the public in the remote regions around Fort Worth without these volunteer folks. So why the city mentioned above didn't have the same understanding for the need of this type of coordination to protect people and their property is perplexing? My guess would be that someone in the larger city thought of this as a way to make money with their fire department, which is a large tax expense to the city but is necessary non the less. The police Department can make money for the city, but the Fire deparmtent doesn't. So maybe this was an idea they had to do that, I don't know. Either way, my opinion is that it caused confusion, put FF's and the public and property at risk and brought embarrassment to the city management. Rick1 point
-
Although any FF officer worth his salt would have had his crew work the fire, ask for forgiveness and let the lawyers fight it out later, this system was set up to fail from the beginning. See, I CAN agree with a Lib once in a while. And it's Schaitberger not Schatisberger. Rick1 point
