read this board long enough and you'll be convinced that we have several hated rivals: smu, UT, The Dallas Morning News, Southlake Carroll High School, The Green Brigade, UNT-Dallas, EA Sports, the city of Denton, local sporting good retailers, rivals.com, Ramon Flanigan, Daddy Dumpsalot... unfortunately, no hatred towards our conference opponents.7 points

Whens the last time North Texas has gotten a solid 4 star recruit out of high school??? Why keep on holding on to these coaches that are good for a lower mid level programs? If we want North Texas to move up in conference we have to get coaches that have been their and have gotten the 4 star recruits on the reg(as kenny powers would say). This is a new opportunity for the program to go to levels we have never seen. I wish the best of luck for the coaches and hope they get a new job as soon as possible but lets stop dwelling on the past and look to the future and see what coaches can make us better. Talking about Dodge he received calls from various programs for the qb coach, he still wants to coach in the college level not hs6 points

Granted, my history as a UNT fan is rather brief in the grand scheme of things, but from 99-present, have we ever had more to be excited about as UNT football fans? I was caught up in the Todd Dodge hysteria, and truly believed he was set to change the face of the program. Even convinced some fellow alumns to eagle up for some season tickets and MGC club donations. But as excited as I was, it was more hope and blind faith than it was true belief and assurance. Coach Mc represents the most decorated coach we've had since possibly Hayden Fry? They guy's coached on the biggest stages of college FB in the Big XII (X) and the SEC. Our new stadium is no longer a dream, but a tribute rising from the 17th and 18th fairways of my childhood? How impressive did it look from across the street at the Fouts Finale, definately had every K State fan I spoke with interested and admiring. I have alums of A&M and Tech telling me how impressed they were with our coaching decision, which caught me off guard. But did anybody notice the quotes from Bob Stoops, Hayden Fry, Urban Meyer, Bill Snyder and Barry Alvarez in the president's email on the coaching hire? They were effusive in there praise of Coach Mc. Forgive me if the green colored Kool-Aid flows a little freely, it's been a long season and I am steadfast an eternal optimist, but have we ever had more to be excited about as fans after such a dysmal performance? Is anyone else feeling like we truly have reasons, not just hope and alumnist faith, to expect more from this program and this team? To expect to compete in our non-conference games and actually win 2-3 of them? To actually dominate our sunbelt competition and return to the days where the SunBelt title had to pass thru Denton? For the first time ever, it feels like UNT has finally committed the time, money and emotion into building a program, the right way, from the ground up. And while it's taken nearly a decade and 3 head coaches, it finally feels like we're on the verge of doing something special and re-defining UNT football in it's entirety. Damon3 points

better conference - Yes I agree CUSA is overall a better football conference. better coach - I'm a big fan of JJ....although I think our new coach gives him a run for the money. I think we will see a different team the next few years. better education - Seriously?? Why even bring that into the discussion? Douche.2 points

This is a great post... I can relate... Cyclone fans hate the Des Moines Register, white helmets, the script cyclones logo, the birdnado logo, the I-State logo, red pants, white pants, gold pants, night games, day games, 11 am games, the Big 12 tv deal, fans who stand all game, fans who sit all game, etc... awesome stuff...2 points

He SHOULD but so should have Zach Muzzy. The NCAA has different rules for different schools.2 points

Everyone is talking about the efforts of Tune to get a medical redshirt. What about D Thompson? Is it possible for him to as well?1 point

Back on the road after 2 home W's... opponent Texas Southern, there 1 and 5 record is decieving... I feel they are better as they have had a brutal schedule, and in addittion they are returning for their first home game... I feel we definately have ability to win and expect to but now days nothing is easy and this one should be a good game... Im predicting another good game out of the back court as tristan or josh will lead us, i also (for the first time all season)feel someone of our bench will have a day... jacob had a great game against tx southern last year so hopefully that can happen again... What do you think????1 point

I think most here on the board would agree that we have utter contempt for Eastern Michigan. We hope they and everyone associated with that school will burn in hell.1 point

If we were talking about this board , I believe you are the most hated rival. Everyone hates you1 point

No disrespect to anyone who see's this current time as being greater than our bowl years. But if that is so, then I suspect you were not around during the 1-AA, 1-A independent and Big West years. Because I and the rest here who were can tell you, once we got RV here and he started to open up the door to spirit/tailgating etc..., and we routed Baylor and then beat the C-USA co-Champions on National TV and read in Dave Campbell's Texas Football that North Texas was "getting the most done with the least than any other program in Texas" that most thought we were finally on our way. Priceless! The kid is a competitor and has a heart as big as Texas. He is a champion. He is our champion and I hope to see him on the field next season...give, of course, that he gets a clean bill of health with no "but's or if's" from the medical folks. Thanks, Riley, for being the competitor that you are and for being a member of and leader on of UNT's team!1 point

Well the original Tiki dates back to the end of Tupac Inca Yupanqui rule of the Inca dynasty...around 1493, or roughly 40 years before the Spanish conquest by Francisco Pizarro...but, lets not split hairs.1 point

i read somewhere on mew mexico state fan board that they are hiring an outside marketing company to evaluate how to better promote their athletic program. of major concern is mens basketball, where attendance has dropped from high of 9,000 to present average of 6,000. perhaps this is something we should look at.1 point

Prior doesn't have a wall full of bent face masks for nothing. I too hope he moves back to LB. Rick1 point

Great game. Coppell played a hell of a game against a much bigger team and had them on the ropes. But why in hell pooch kick the last kickoff there with a 4 point lead with three minutes to go, with a kicker that could kick it out of the stadium? Horrible decision that gave Trinity a shorter field they didn't need simply handed to them. Rick1 point
-
:49 seconds left. Coppell up 40-35, but Trinity is driving down the field, and is around 30 yards from the endzone. Game is still on TXA 21.1 point

It is hardly even relevant to look at our attendance as member of Sun Belch. As a member of CUSA or MWC, attendance will increase dramatically because there will be dramatic change how our program and school is perceived. I am concerned about CUSA because I think they will lose members. As a member of Big XII we would blast past Baylor and Tech. We are not going to get the vote of confidence from a real conference based on anything we do in our current conference. They need to consider only what will happen when we get the vote of confidence. You know people's perceptions on NT will change entirely based on this alone. We need someone who can develop and explain a vision how this change for NT will be good for the new conference not just NT. I think them seeing that we have people in control who 'get it' is much more important than any Sun Belt history.1 point

Speak for yourself No players got me more amped for the game than Booger, Buckles, Jones, Cobbs and Co. My friends and I were 10x mire giddy during the streak and bowl games. Heck, still get chills remembering Galbraith converting 1st downs to seal the Cinci win. Until McCarney is winning games, this is nothing more than a splash hire.1 point

I'll try and answer, I mean, what the heck? I've heard Jarion Henry came to Tech and left, perhaps Mean Greener than Shrek. Ben Dillard is still high on our board, though if he's shown at the Pit, I've heard no word. As for Terrel de Rouen I've no idea what he's doin' Marquis Jackson, from my alma mater he may well come here, and not be a hater though in truth he has lots on his platter as he may end up with McCarney, would that make him a traitor? A. Norris, Goodson and Mergeson all remain unsigned if they end up in Denton, I certainly wouldn't mind and they're bound to have us on the radar, unless of course they're blind.1 point

Jokes like that would be a lot better/funnier if we had any room to talk about not being in a bowl game.1 point

i would love to see us in mwc or cusa. however, i see a few problems when i remove my rose tinted glasses. we have a small fan base at present, no tv following, don't travel, poor financial support from alumni, and a underfunded athletic program. i realistically believe that winning solves some of these issues, and feel that with our new coach and stadium we have a chance to move forward. hovever, we have never seemed to address the following question; what do we want,[lexus], what do we need[transportation], and what are we willing to pay for[used pick -up truck]? until we open our wallets as much as our mouths we will continue to be a sleeping giant. just an observation.1 point

Josh is not aggressive enough and will end up getting blocked... Yes he is great player! BUT far overrated... You will see Tristan or George getting offers when they are done and Josh will be lucky to play overseas. You will see1 point

Yes possibly clutch though I rather have the ball in Thompsons hands at the end of a game.1 point

Our players just already look sluggish and having two games rest playing those minutes and then jumping into grambling wont be good. I am not saying we will lose, or even only win by say 15 points. But it will take its toll.1 point

Im sitting watching the CUSA championship game and I still cant believe it. Was SMU really that good this year? How did they get by U of H? If we played them would we even have a chance? Has SMU widened the gap that much? Is there talent better than ours? Anybody have any perspective as what a recruit is thinking when he makes his mind up to go to SMU instead of UNT? (or is a recruit considering SMU way out of our league?) Somebody help me out please0 points

Way out of our league? Gimmeee' a freakin' break! Yet.......it's all temporary over there because: The Rising Star North of Univ. Park Is Fixin' To Take Its New Stage & Be The New Marquee Attraction in the, uh, "North Texas" Metroplex! Put That In 3 Inch Headlines, Babe-eeeeeeeeeee! (I also can't wait till we show 'em what a real on campus football stadium looks like and one whose capacity is half full of green-clad NT students--the other half green-clad NT Exes/MG fans & "HELLSBELLS!..........................The University of North Texas Green Brigade Marching Band which would fill half of Ford Stadium by themselves)! Sort of blows a hole right in that theory of "all you need to do is win and the fans will show up", doesn't it? When a "Christmas lighting on the square" is the reason there are so few fans at a BB game for a university with over 37,000 students (who some here have said they can't come because they are studying) and a community with close to or just over 100,000 (including students), well it pretty much points out the need for some marketing and promotions work, doesn't it? It's really hard to sell even as good a product as UNT basketball when you don't do anything in the way of marketing and/or promotions. Oh, well, there are folks on the board who think UNT does all it can and has a great staff (I'll give you the "great staff" as far as personnel are concerned), but is that "great staff" actually charged with marketing and promotions or held in any way accountable as most folks are in their job duties and responsibilities? Is there a marketing/promotions budget centered around basketball? I really have no clue, but based on what I have seen and the effort made, I would say "no". Maybe attendance is really pretty good considering that even the athletic dept. is doing a good job of keeping it a secret from the public. OK, pound away, but I get more info on Denton HS, Guyer HS and Ryan HS sports activities (I am not talking about game reports here but rather pre-game news, events, etc.) locally than I do UNT. Jump on my case if you will for pointing out the obvious, but facts are facts. If we want to keep JJ as UNT's head coach, there definitely needs to be a change in attitude around here to help bring rears into the seats at the Super Pit. JJ has done his job, the players have done their job, but the athletic department is lacking as are in the fans in "doing their part".0 points

I'm way more excited now than I was during the conference win streak, because at the time I still didn't see us getting any better than the level we currently were. I loved the streak and the bowl win, but we failed to compete outside of the Sun Belt, our facilities were garbage, and we still had no real sign of commitment from the administration.0 points
