We're all familiar with the legendary facts about Chuck Norris that run rampant on the internet. Thing is, to this point, we've only gotten half the story. For example, Chuck Norris counted to infinity -- twice -- because that's how many points Mike Canales' offense rang up on him. If you have five dollars and Chuck Norris has five dollars, Chuck Norris has more money than you, but Mike Canales will take it all from both of you. Chuck Norris ordered a Big Mac at Burger King, and got one. He then delivered it to Mike Canales with an extra order of fries. Chuck Norris has never blinked in his entire life. Never. Mike Canales won't let him. When you open a can of whoop-ass, Chuck Norris jumps out. He reaches for his phone, hits speed dial, and shouts, "Mike! Help!" There is no chin behind Chuck Norris' beard. There is only another fist. It hides back there in fear of Mike Canales' firm stare.5 points

While you're on your b-ball "high": 1) Make plans to attend as many games as you can....the rest of this season. 2) AND BY ALL MEANS......MAKE YOUR HOT SPRINGS TOURNAMENT PLANS NOW. Trust me, you'll have a blast.5 points

This was one of the best games I've witnessed at the Pit - ever, and I've been going to games since I was a teenager in the 80's. Loved it!!!!! From the music fraternity singing the anthem so well, to the banners being hung, our awesome drum line at the half, the incredible student turnout and support, and a win over a Big-12 team, in freaking OT. It was fantastic! What is also good, is seeing the two friends I came with that are Tech grads going quiet in the OT period, knowing they were about to lose. They've ribbed me over the years for being a UNT grad and fan and it was NICE to return the favor!5 points

Oh and we need to just hire Canalas or someone for the cheap so we can save money for JJ in the future.5 points

You should have told them there was an expired parking meter just outside the entrance. They would have taken off running.4 points

I can't believe we just upset a Big 12 team in front of one of the 10 biggest crowds our stadium has ever seen and there are still jackholes over here arguing about the coaching search. News flash: Hire whoever works cheapest. Plow the rest of the money into retaining Johnny Jones. If Canales will work for canned food and loose change he finds in the furniture, f*** it. Keep him. If not, pick up a homeless guy and put his ass on the sidelines next year. You people missed a great night.4 points

I like the idea, but then I got to thinking and remembered that the Rangers let that cheer spread organically for 2/3rds of the season before they pushed it on us. Last night taught me a lesson: let go and let the students drive the cheers and what we yell. They've got this and they should be the pulse of the crowd. This may not seem like much, but I'm a jackass who wore spandex to the tournament title game last year. I have complete faith in the student body to pull this off without AD help unless they ask for it. I don't think the AD prints the cheat sheets at most basketball schools, so why should we be different? Those kids stepped up last night and I'd love to see what a loosely organized, energetic flock of college kids are capable of before we step in.3 points

Chuck Norris found Ray. He was with Mike Canales and wouldn't leave until the random people searching for him in the streets quit looking.2 points

It is November 2030. Joe and Sam are sitting in a bar, watching a basketball game on a big screen. Joe: Remember when we beat Tech to launch that amazing season? Sam: I'll never forget. I remember the end of OT, when all of us calmly reviewed the stats, commented incisively on the play of various players, and then, in the sober understanding that this should be considered a routine win, filed out of the coliseum in a quiet and orderly manner. I'll cherish that feeling of jaded restraint forever. Joe: Yeah, good times. Wish I had a video.2 points

I don't feel the need to be more specific. For student spectator interest, it goes football, basketball, and in a distant third-place, baseball. Period. The first has been horrific since current seniors were freshmen in high school, the second has done well, but with limited exposure, and the third just plain doesn't exist. Even national championships in soccer, vball, golf, or tennis aren't going to garner much more than a collective, "Huh. Cool!" from the overall student body. That's why they're call non-revenue sports, or in a more politically correct world, olympic sports.2 points

I agree with you in principal, but give a student body who hasn't seen much in the way of AD success a break and let them have their fun. When beating up on Big XII teams becomes a norm, then the students will rightfully act like they've seen it before. Keep the wins coming, and there's no reason, given UNT's facilities, that home games against bigger prey shouldn't be in order. For the time being, UNT probably just increased its average home attendance by a bit because those students will be back. They'll see UNT walking over its Sunbelt competition. They'll come back for more. For my part, it was a brilliant move in scheduling to bring in a well known name that is totally beatable. Next step in the immediate future is a first round win in the NCAA. Get a couple more OOC wins, win the division and the conference tourney, and a 12 seed should be in order. Anybody who has ever filled out a bracket knows that the 12 seed always wins. On a somewhat related note, Rick's been going all over campus promoting the basketball team to students. I mean, he's personally going out, gathering up groups of students, sitting them down in the union, and telling them to get their butts in the seats. Shameless, incorrigible behavior. It's like he's trying to justify his job or something!2 points

I was very concerned about Edwards based on his production at Nebraska and at the JUCO he played for before arriving at UNT. LAST NIGHTS GAME AGAINST Ttech ERASED ALL MY Fears!!! At a critical moment in the game Edwards played lights out!!! Not many minutes during critical moment, but excellent production. Given time Edwards will become a force on the front line in my mind.2 points

I really wish RV would simply say publicly that Leavitt is out because he has too much legal baggage. That way PMG would have a better understanding of what has already been said, just not publicly. I don't give two sh%&s what these so called big time donors think, it is not their choice either. There will be an elevator for their needs. Tell them to donate more so they can have their name on a plaque inside of it. But let me guess. My statement doesn't matter because I don't have thousands of posts and have not been on this forum forever. Seems like anyone that is new here is less than welcomed by the Ole' Guys Alumni as PMG likes to call it. Automatically, it is assumed that if you are new you are somehow only rooting for Canales. It is a shame that a forum for the fans is constantly barraged by pop shots from one or two people. Harry, maybe it is time to announce that the status quo is not what you intended when you started this place and new opinions might be worth something. To those who are a little older Alumni and do appreciate a differing opinion here and there, thank you. (I would have put emoticons throughout my text but I figure why pollute a post with BS!) PMG - Notice the normal text size? It is ok to be normal. Not everyone wants or needs to read text that is the size of a headline, or is it that you think it makes your opinion grandeur.2 points

NBC didn't say one thing about the NT-Tech game. Snub. 7,000 + in attendance and not one word. The best players on SMU and TCU could combine to form one team, and we would still beat them. We will continue to receive this kind of attention, or lack of attention, as long as we tolerate it. Get mad, make calls, and rock the boat. Be loved or be hated, but lets not be ignored.2 points

The student section was awesome tonight, and we came early. My girlfriend and I got there 30 minutes before tipoff and we were still stuck sitting at the top row of the lower bowl. I have never had more fun or been more pumped up for a sporting event ever. This will be one of the best memories of my time as a studnent at UNT. Hopefully this crowd will carry throughout this great season.2 points

Yeah...because that Mecca in the middle of the dusty sh*thole called Lubbock is home to a world renowned institution of higher learning. When are these Sand Fleas gonna figure out that outside of a larger endowment and Sports Program...they don't have us beat in much of anything?? I thought we already clarified that the acceptance rates/Average SAT was almost the same? If anything....I am embarrassed to be compared to them. The dumbest people at my office all coincidentally happen to be Red Raiders.1 point

Answers to the above 3 questions: 1. North Texas fired coach Todd Dodge. 2. They disagree over who should be Dodge's permanent replacement. 3. One wants to hire the interim head coach as permanent; the other doesn't. You guess which. Also, and not entirely unrelated, the men's basketball team appears headed for a historically successful year, and if so, we may need to come up with a lot of money to keep him here next year.1 point

I don't think anyone should sweat Tech fans coming up with excuses about their loss tonight. Its what they do best--lose and make excuses. I have heard it since 1988 when we beat them in Lubbock in football and in 1991 when we beat them in Lubbock in hoops. Ask any Aggie or Longhorn about their interactions with Tech fans. Hell, ask anyone in the Big XII, where they were voted the worst fans in the conference by opposing players last year in a football pre-season poll. They recieved 36% of the vote, while Colorado was second--at 18%. Tech fans were voted as the worst by DOUBLE the next team, which happens to be leaving the conference next year. I am sure that most of that 18% will get thrown to Lubbock, as well, so they easily could have 50% of all votes as being the worst fanbase in the Big XII. But, hey, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!1 point

The same thing happened last year when we beat UTA in Double OT in Arlington. No one even gave the score of that game on the 10pm news. I know that UTA isn't the biggest name around, but they have a lot of alumni, just like we do in the DFW area. This is what makes it tough on the fans of the program. The majority of the media in DFW just won't give us much attention. I know its a pro sports market and a Big XII market, but I believe Tech is still in the Big XII and I highly doubt SMU-TCU drew even close to 4000 they show in the box score, yet they get the attention tonight. Its just the way it is. We can keep winning, but it will take some monumental success for UNT to get the coverage that it deserves. And, by the way, doing an email campaign just gets you sarcastic coverage. In other words, you can send these emails and then Newy Scruggs or Dale Hansen will say something along the lines of, "Well, I just got tons of emails from UNT people expressing their displeasure with the lack of coverage. Well, here you go. UNT loses to KU by 20 tonight. There you go." It always goes this way. What really makes tonight's game so special for me was that this was the best game I have ever been to at the Super Pit and I have been going to games since my freshman year in 1991-1992. I took my two boys, 5 and 2, and all three of us were in Mean Green Gear cheering on the home team. What a great experience and one that I won't ever forget--nor will my oldest son, who said after the game, "Dad, thanks for taking me to the game tonight. I am so happy the Mean Green won!!" It wasn't his first game by any stretch, but it was his first game to cheer loud because he understood what was going on when each team had possession of the ball. So screw the local media--this game may have deserved more attention, but it will be talked about on this forum and in our home for years to come!! GMG!!1 point

Unbelievable. Not a single local station showed a highlight of this game, but they showed all the empty seats at the TCU-SMU snoozer.1 point

Just got home from the game.. WOW. We, the Pit Crew, were loud and crazy for the full game, non-stop for 60 minutes... And even the non-Pit Crew attendees were really into the game - I was so proud of them... they didn't sit on their hands and stood from about 7 minutes in the 2nd half until that game ended... what an atmosphere that was! I am exhausted and will need a day or two to recover... And I didn't play.. I cannot imagine how the Mean Green players feel right now. I've been going to Mean Green b-ball games since 2005, and probably missed 5 games in 5 years... This was my hands-down favorite game ever.1 point

Quick Thoughts: 1) Wow. 2) Also Wow. 3) The production from the 4 position was something that would have made Ol' Trammy proud. Holmen played great. Hogans swatted 3 shots and was solid all night. Edwards got some key rebounds and filled up the stat sheet pretty well for the time he played. 4) We need George to play a lot of minutes against good teams. Hogans/Edwards/Holmen looked confused without George's foot up their ass. 5) JOSH F'N WHITE 6) Tristan was incredible in the 4th. His ability to get to the line allowed for Josh's heroics. 7) The Pit was absolutely amazing. I scoffed at the numbers some people were expecting for this prior to the game, but wow what a crowd. You think this will be all of those students last basketball game this year? Not a chance. The Pit Crew should be amazing for the rest of the year. 8) 2 down on the road to 30 I'll let Jay-Z take it from here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM1RChZk1EU1 point

These windmills as such....and the new name for the stadium/park....The WIN Mill. so the paper can say....North Texas hammered SMU at the WIN MILL yesterday in front of 29,200 fans.1 point

Excellent point. I would also add, that Coach Canales seems to be very realistic about what needs to be done here. And that is WIN and then PROMOTE, PROMOTE PROMOTE. Right now he's promoting himself as much (if not more) than the program itself, but he still gets out there and promotes NORTH TEXAS FOOTBALL.....and it's getting noticed. I'm wondering what he could accomplish for North Texas if he's not having to put as much energy into promoting himself for the job. I haven't seen this much raw confidence and energy in a long time......maybe ever.1 point

Depending on how the K-State vs. Va Tech game goes, North Texas can be the first school to defeat a Big 12 team this year. The Big 12 is 18-0 so far (OU tried really hard to lose last night).1 point

SAM Coach, it is a given already that I want a proven HFC commodity. Whats the deal here, you don't read all my posts or something? I did say I will accept who our Prez' recommends (and I will) after Neinas gives him the skinny on all his group has researched for the most important HFC in Mean Green football history, but I think I know who will not be on the short list and if he is............I will support my school decision. Is that OK with you? So.......Get back with all the other guys in your group, SAM Coach, and tell them they are wasting their time stalking my posts. And then tell said same group of which GMG.com seems an intregal part of their campaign tactics that they really are hurting their cause more than helping. No educated person on our campus (one weird oxymoron there) would concur with such tactics, especially since some of the less than nice PM's several of us have received from your group have been kept in our computer archives just in case some on campus ask to see them. I defer to President Lane Rawlins with his Big Time school background and will trust his huge influence in this most historic HFC's hire...that's really about all many of us can say about this from now on; at least, most of the time.1 point

I have been in attendance during this current three game road winning streak and will be in Monroe cheering the team on to hopefully another road victory. These games have been really exciting to watch and obviously the team is playing quite well. However, from a majority of the discussions on this board there is clearly more interest in who may or may not be the next head coach than what actually happened in the games. We need to have a strong showing of fans in Monroe to support the players! With the way the team has been playing I am sure you will not be disappointed.1 point
