  1. If we are going to hire a coach who is currently a coordinator, let's hire the one who is currently our interim head coach.

  2. Isn't it about time that UNT officials found somewhere else for Brett Vito to sit? I am referring to the five or six press rows at center court that usually are not used. This is a prime location that we currently are losing revenue from because we cannot sell seats there. I can't think of another arena anywhere that would give up prime seating like this. It always makes the crowd less imitating and quieter because we have our center court with no fans sitting there. Move the print press to another location in the arena and put the radio or tv announcers on the floor. Sell these seats and bring in revenue we desperately need to upgrade the image of the Pit.

  3. But Plumm, here's where I have a problem with your opinion of Canales. You have coaches that have coached at much higher places than UNT versus Mike Canales. Plumm, MIKE CANALES COACHED AT MUCH HIGHER PLACES THAN UNT. FOR a long time....

  4. Excellent point. I would also add, that Coach Canales seems to be very realistic about what needs to be done here. And that is WIN and then PROMOTE, PROMOTE PROMOTE. Right now he's promoting himself as much (if not more) than the program itself, but he still gets out there and promotes NORTH TEXAS FOOTBALL.....and it's getting noticed. I'm wondering what he could accomplish for North Texas if he's not having to put as much energy into promoting himself for the job. I haven't seen this much raw confidence and energy in a long time......maybe ever.

  5. First off, i'm not sure i even understand your arguments on your blog. You say the offense was so bad in the first few games and the reasons are obvious yet you give no reasons and actually the offense moved the ball the first two games. It's like you pick and choose when you want to give credit to Canales yet none of us no how much credit or blame Canales actually gets or deserves. Did Canales game plan the Army game? The FIU game? The FAU game? It's also getting old that you take the opinions of a few and then twist it to make it seem like the opinions of the majority. If i just read your take i would believe that every UNT fan and donor was againt Canales. It takes me about 2 minutes of reading GMG.com to know that isn't the truth. The majority are either for him, or giving him the opportunity to show what he can do. Only a select few are actively against his hire. Not the majority. Look, most of us know that Dodge didn't make your job any easier and Canales probably would. But to openly push for his hire and attempt (i say attempt because in my mind you are doing more cheerleading than actual reporting) to sway people for his hire is both unprofessional and not your job. It's one thing to vet through a list of candidates and give your opinion on who would be the best hire and why. It's another thing entirely to push for one single candidate and then bash your readers who would like the process open to other candidates or who attempt to question who you are cheering for to get the job. But hey, i guess i just haven't caught up with this new world of "journalism". Rob Black

  8. I was just thinking of how rude we're being by hanging all our banners in front of our guests from Texas Tech. We won our conference, and we're hanging a banner. They didn't win theirs. We won our tournament, and we're hanging a banner. They didn't win theirs. We earned an NCAA berth, and we're hanging a banner. They didn't get one. Maybe we could hang up something temporary to make the Red Raiders feel special? Something to remind them of their "accomplishments" from the 2009-10 season? Maybe we can get something printed up before tipoff. We wouldn't want to be impolite.

  9. Really? So Jim Plummer writing letters to school administrators telling them how to do their job is what's best for North Texas? Really? Let's not forget the fact that these are highly compensated administrators with years of experience making these types of decisions. I sincerely doubt a part time DJ/message board troll has any influence on their decision. But, if Jimmy wants to keep writing his letters, than dat-gummit Jimmy you keep writing your letters. Peace out!

  10. Don't understand why people feel the need to run down Todd Dodge now that he's gone, you got your wish, he is not here anymore, let it go. I mean the guy left the program with class, and wished the program the best. He's also been to the three games since he was let go, there is no need to continue running the guy down, get over yourself.

  11. Give it a rest. Tre was a very good running back at UT, and Todd Dodge is no longer our coach.

  15. You have to be kidding Canales has done nothing big picture wise to get the attention of another school? Who would sell this guy to another school well he won a few games with at team at the bottom against some other bottom dwelling teams. There is something to get excited about from an outside prospective?

  18. This may be one of the strangest threads I've ever read here? We got over DD's firing pretty quickly, and he scorched enough earth to make the Romans envious? I'm for moving on and forgetting all the ugly days. Chico is 2-1 so far, and I'll bet he's just getting the Green Machine rolling. He's certainly experienced enough, and cares enough to be our HC if the Gods decide it should be so. He was also smart enough to marry a brilliant and hot blonde!... THAT gets him another year in my book... (Oh, uh?..Carol, if you're reading this... you can kick me in the shin at the next home game. Thanks again for the shirt!) GMG!!!

  21. Why are so many people against the idea of having wind generators next to the stadium? Depending on how big they are (how much of an eye sore they are) it might not be that big of a deal, plus it will bring UNT a lot of positive publicity for "going green", especially since our stadium is LEED certified.

  22. It's bad enough that UNT has fallen for this boondoogle of a project. Please don't compound it by having the stadium name have anything to do with it.

Let Vito do some indepth research or find a real "source" on the inside with some facts then I'll listen. Give us names to compare. Apples to apples, experience to experience, otherwise it's just more rah-rah.

  30. An above poster says.........immature? A bunch of obvious new posters extemely pro Chico bashing alums of whom this is not their first rodeo (our alums) of seeing yet another search for a new HFC at North Texas? Don't we do this about every 4 or so years? Some think with the right hirings one day we might even have an athletic program varsity team at UNT finish inside the Top 50. It was explained to me by my UNTHSC (Fort Worth) friend that he thought the new prez needed to see more of the methods being used by some of these new posters with obvious close ties to the assistant coach than whether said assistant coach actually got the job or not. There seems to be a one way street of "our way or the highway" among a few on this board of which none of this group will have absolutely nothing to do with whoever our next new HFC will be. This for both sides of the pro Canales or not pro Canales groups, too. I don't have enough horses in the race to influence any UNT coaches selection or who to name practice fields after for damn sure but I do have an opinion or 2. I think mere speculation is still what most of us do on most any subject on this forum, right? Alums who communicate anything to our power even if just a birthday card? If they are communicating with our powers, then maybe that a hint that they are involved with their alma mater in other ways than just GoMeanGreen.com.? Some on this board have already judged "where were they before" not even knowing who the hell the names are. I know one in Dallas who is livid that North Texas (as he said) would be waving a huge white flag if we don't hire a name coach with FBS experience (with some success to boot). Would he be bashed on GMG.com? No, he wouldn't because he told me long ago he will not waste his time on one of these kinds of collegiate smack boards. This guy has been one of our largest contributors in our schools history who I've know since the late 1970's. This new prez' of ours did not fall off the small time college turnip truck inasmuch as he served in the same role at Washington State and Memphis so I think his perspective for our next North Texas new HFC will probably come from criteria used at schools like the 2 aforementioned--rather than our methods of late which have not produced a winning football program that shows sign of advancement in quite a while--like most of my adult life for starters? Please Do Hear Me Out: I don't care who we get for our next new HFC at UNT as long as he has the talent and true capabilities to take us up to the next level. If Rawlins and RV and Neinas all agree its Coach Chico, then those of us who can will bury the hatchet, sing Kum Bah Yah and will fall in line with Coach Chico with our undivided support and that is a promise because.....If he is successful then our MG football program will be, too, and isn't that what this is all about in the first place? GMG!

  31. Would you like me to get a colander and remove the piss out of your wheaties. Love how many can now denigrates the wins against a pre-season favorite and close loss to the class of the Belt. Who expected wins against MTSU this year or a close loss to Troy after all of the injuries? I assume you feel Dodge would have done exactly the same and gotten the same results? What else would you like Canales too do? Should be have beaten WKU by 50? Lose to Troy on a last second XP miss?

  33. Leavitt should just admit that he made a mistake, apologize on national TV while balling his eyes out and then claim to have discovered Jesus Christ. If he does that, I think he would be a stronger candidate for a HC job. Until then he is carrying too much baggage.

  36. I agree, he has a slant. It's a blog. And how can his opinion bother you so much when the PMG crusade is not only insulting (accusing those who disagree of naivety znd being easily pacified) and nauseatingly redundant. At least I have to click on a link external to this board to read Vito's side of the argument.

  37. He's QUITTING football (the SPORT, not just the Longhorns). In other words he's retiring because he wants to be able to have a regular life and not having to deal with post concussion syndrome for the rest of his life. Tre was a great HS player, a decent player at tU, but he is going to remain under scholarship and should get his degree on tU's dime and tying up a scholarship that would go to another 4 star recruit to sit on the bench. I hope Tre earns his degree and has a great career and makes lots of money so he can afford to keep his drug running dad out of jail. Nate's lost so much weight, he'd be Quoner's bitch in the joint.

  38. I'm disappointed that nobody has appeared to appreciate the title of this thread given the current swirling rumors about Cam Newton and his dad and the simple fact that Nate Newton responded, on LIVE TV, to the question of why Tre wouldn't consider North Texas with, "They don't pay enough." Verbatim. Joking or not, I may never know....but I'll also never forget that moment.

  41. This is where there is seperation between Coach Canales and the Leach, Leavitt, Fran group. We know they can put together a successful staff. They have done it. We know they can recruit against the big boys. They have done it. We know they can develop talent. They have done it. We don't know whether Coach Canales has the management capabilities to identify the right assistant coaches and put them in a position to be successful. The timing of this hire is very important, as is turning around this program as fast as possible. I just feel more confident with any of the other 3 than I would with Coach Canales.

  42. The sad thing about this? I was halfway through and didn't realize it was a bit until I saw your avatar and realized who was posting it. Things have gotten rough around here lately.

  43. The problem here, again, is that the school found that Leavitt interfered with the the investigation and intimidated some of the witnesses. He was fired on three counts. Joel Miller did admit to fearing for his position on the team, as did others, and originally tried to cover to Leavitt. He stopped doing so in January of 2010. Leavitt and his attorney are fighting the windmills of their minds. He'll probably begin to realize this even moreso as schools question him and his agent, and he remains unemployed. As an athletic director, I'd be hesitant about hiring a guy in a pending lawsuit with student abuse as the main issue being led by an ambulance chaser. Bad publicity isn't worth it. Plenty of team win without coaches choking or hitting their players then lawyering up with doctor baiters. So, the official record - until such time as a trial court find differently, or Leavitt wises up and settles with the University under a no liability admitted term - remains that he grabbed a player by the throat and hit him twice for missing a block. Besides, we're not so desperate now that we've got to resort to hiring guys with unresolved legal problems. We're proving that an assistant with no prior head coaching experience can take a team rife with injuries and players he didn't recruit and win here. And, each win makes us less desperate. Hire us a guy who wants to coach football. Let Leavitt and Leach go play Ally McBeal.

  44. Who cares, we're not in Junior High any more? As for Vitto, what I like about him is, you can talk to him, disagree with him and even criticicize him over opinions you may disagree with him on and he never seems to hold a grudge. He's very professional in that way. I promise you MeanRob could tell him what he posted to his face and Brett would take it in stride and give a valid response back. Rick

  48. Ok, he either gets hammered for not being positive enough about North Texas and being it's cheerleader, or he's an uninformed blogger. You know, I see writers from all the other newspapers (Randy Galloway for one) offer their opinions. Why is Vito not allowed to offer his?
