I am very impressed at how Riley has really stepped up and proved to be a real competitor. The guys dad get's fired, he's got a broken arm, he's up against what has to seem like incredible odds and he fights his heart out. I'm not syaing to vote for him for president or anything, I'm just saying we should be really proud of him and appreciate what he has done for his team and the football program. Where would we be without him. He is really bridging the gap! I like the kid!! Go Mean Green!

Not tap dancing, but my only hesitation is not knowing just how poor an in game coach Dodge really was... Likewise, not knowing how badly the team had tuned him out. Regardless of what you think of Canales, this turn around has been nothing short of staggering when you consider the last several years (or just the first half of this season!). What the higher ups have to decide is how much of that is because we've gone from miserably led to adequately led, or if Canales is REALLY that good. I could take over an Olympic weightlifting competition from an infant and look pretty good. I still wouldn't be the right guy to represent our country in weightlifting. Point isn't to trash Dodge - point is, some important people are going to have to dig deep and determine just how far gone this thing was under Dodge in order to accurately evaluate Canales' performance. WHY is it so much better with the same players and coaches? Is it removing Dodge or adding Canales... or, most likely, what percentage of both? Would appointing DeLoach or Peterson interim HC have yielded significantly different results? We have to answer these questions as best we can. I love what Chico has done as much as anyone. If someone had told me we'd do this a month ago, I'd have thought they were certifiable. But this is a huge hire, and we may well be picking him over established names like Jim Leavitt, etc... tough, tough call.

If we just take the interim tag off of him based on the last few games without actually searching for a coach then we have not learned a thing as a school, an administration, and a fan base. Listen, I like what I have seen from Chico and I do notice the changes, but let's tap the brakes a bit. All Coach C has done is thrown his name in the hat and made it hard to ignore him.

Wow , top 25 talk ? Let's tap the brakes on that. I love Chico. I love his plan and enthusiam , but let's not forget that we have just beat a 2 - 8 wku & a 3 - 6 mtsu team.

Hire him

A head coach with a one or two year contract is not going to stand a chance in recruiting. If you don't feel confident enough to give him a longer contract than that, you need to look in another direction.

If "anything can happen," how is it going to happen? I have never personally seen anything bad happen for a team lining up in the victory formation and taking a knee. However, if Stanford gets the TD, they kick off to Ariz State; and if they score, they have a shot at an onsides kick. What Stanford did was not only classy, it was the smart play.

If he beats Monroe, take the interim take off. If not, put him in the mix with the rest of them.

Just heard coach Chico's postgame with Jub. I gotta say I am fired up. The guy can obviously coach and is no stranger to the College game. That has been very apparent since TD was let go. Love the guy's attitude and passion. You could really sense that he was enjoying his work. The kids are buying. We should go ahead and take the interim tag off of him. There I said it. Lock the gate.

Under Coach C, this may be a reality within 3 years!!!! Believe it people!! We have a diamond in the rough in our very own hands as we speak!! I sure hope we don't blindly give him away. Any believers out there?!!

Seriously? I hope you are being sarcastic. We beat a 3-5 MTSU team and those wins were against Peay, ULL, ULM. We beat a 1-6 WKU and that win was against ULL. You're predicting a top 25 in 3 years based on this? I'm all about being optimistic but lets also try to be realistic.

The 71 some odd kids in letter jackets were not all recruits. There was some high school event that was scheduled for that day, not sure what it was, but there was a tent set up out north of Fouts for it. Several of them sitting down in front of us were not even big enough, in my opinion, to play varsity high school much less be d1 college talent. Second, just because people are hoping that NT gives everyone who wants this job equal consideration does mean they dislike coach Canales. Third, I have a question for Coach Canales for the next person who interviews him to ask. If your rewarded the head coaching job will you extend a hand to your friend Jim Leavitt to be your defensive coordinator? After all, he did the same for you TWICE when you needed a job. He now needs one and needs a second chance to repair his reputation. Seems like a match made in heaven on paper and would be a fantastic gesture between friends. What do you say Coach C? Rick

Never said that. Every candidate should be vetted the same way. Some on here are not wanting that to happen, they just want the job handed to Canales because he won a couple of games. Hell, some suspiciously new posters are actively campaigning for support. That isn't the way a major university should be conducting it's search. I hope that the search is being done correctly, I fear it isn't. This fear is based on recent hires and nothing else. .

Never pass on laughing at a program that flaunts spending $90 million on athletics and can't have a winning season.

How can you not like this guy? He's genuine, and will raise the level of this program to unforseen heights quickly.

personally, i don't think he's stepped up. he's been this way the whole time. he fought through injuries last year too as well as the freshman learning curve. he's been this way the whole time he's been here. in my opinion...he's our mvp for this year, without question.

I'm a believer. Hire Canales.

Coach Canales is the guy for next years Head Coaching Job at North Texas. I'm not saying sign him to a long 5 year deal, but sign him for 1 or 2 years and see what he can do with HIS TEAM. As I sat back tonight and thought about our team and how they have responded over the past 3 weeks, our success is due to this coach's player/coach relationship. Watching Coach Canales during his post game comments will give you a small taste of the excitement he brings to this football team. He wants this job, is passionate for not only his players but the coaches around him. This excitement is contagious and we are seeing the by product of this excitement overnight. We are finishing these tight games with Wins and not "Tough Loses". Please, watch him in this video and think what will our team's attitude be like after his direction and excitement over next summer and into Spring training workouts. Then ask yourself, would I play for this guy? If he would have had this team a year ago and was the head coach at the beginning of this season, I have no doubt we would all be on Bourbon Street come December. You can't help but want to go to battle with Coach Canales. He is the guy we need to take us to the next level and consistently win at this new level. RV is a smart man and I have confidence he will make the right decision. We are very lucky to have both RV and Coach Canales at this time. Go Mean Green!!

Come on over. I got plenty more. Just wasn't TD's time. He may be successful in future but made too many critical mistakes. He had not paid his dues at D1 level. Coach C has with 20+ years at D1/NFL level. It's his time!!!

Besides the 14 +/- players we have lost for the season including KD last week, no excuses being made. In fact, I believe we just went on the road and beat the preseason conference champion pick in their house!! Huge my friends!! Huge!! Let's not be in denial UNT faithful. What we are seeing is real!!!

I understand that it is frustrating that today's game was on 100.7 only, but let's all keep in mind these HS playoff games are a big deal to the young broadcasters that are announcing them. I know that it isn't exactly pro Mean Green. However, these guys are getting to show why the University of North Texas is a true leader in the country in producing quality broadcasters. Had to go to the store, so tuned into 88.1 to listen to the start of the game, but it is not been broadcast. Instead, kntu is broadcasting the Denton High vs Hereford playoff game from Sweetwater. Just another example of how motivated the overall University is in promoting the athletic program. Yes, I know it is on THE WORD, but that's not the point. Just like not having the tower lit when we beat FAU earlier this year, unbelievable and pathetic.

There is only one team in the Sunbelt that has an overall winning record and a Canales lead team lost to them by 6 points and was in a position to win until the end. That WKU team we rolled just beat Ark. St. which happens to be one of the better teams in the Conference. MTSU has not had the season they wanted but they were a preseason favorite and are as loaded as anyone in the Belt. What's more is this team is so plagued with injuries that I am surprised they could hang with anyone much less win. All of this might not seem special to many on this board but it has my attention in a big way. If we beat LA Monroe I think Canales deserves the job. On a side note. Those of you that said you would leave if Canales is hired. Be sure to follow through on that. I will be here regardless and will be happy to help cover the lost donations.

We are not going to compete with K-State. Period. I don't care who the coach is, we do not have that kind of talent. Whether or not we can be a future top 25 team is not only going to take great practice week and game day coaching--which we have certainly seen from Coach Canales--it is going to take great recruiting.

You REALLY wonder if TD would have the same results that we have seen in the last three games? This team is miles different than under the direction of TD.

All around effort but I say that the kicker won this game today... 53 yard FG changed the game. I find myself wondering if TD would have had the same results... but football is about believing you can win. Chico just made a great case for being on the short list.
