  1. Well, more to the point, if he can't get it done with their resources, and their B-12-enhanced culture, then......... Before PMG jumps in here to remind me that North Texas WILL HAVE more resources in the near future...we won't have Colorado's resources, and adding more money won't change our culture. How much money does the Dallas Cowboy organization have? How's their culture been doing the last three years? A dynamic personality with a serious will to change things here, will change our culture.

  2. It seems to my like folks think Canales has excitement for the job, is a nice guy, cares about the Mean Green, etc. Just like Dodge. He's a good guy. So far, he's won a game against WKU and lost a close one. Just like Dodge. Let's give this a little more time and don't let a bit of swag and excitement get in the way of obtaining a long-term football coach. Don't get me wrong, I like what I see so far. Let's give it a few weeks and then compare to other candidates. I am very excited about the direction we are headed. Go Mean Green!

  3. Hey, if we hired Stoops, maybe the Oklahoma coaching staff wouldn't make fun of our defensive schemes.

  4. That excuse was for the last guy. This coach has shown he can get the team to show up and play regardless of who's on the field.

  5. "UNT has posted its two highest scoring games of the season." "Quarterback Riley Dodge posted his best game this season on Saturday against Troy, throwing for 269 yards and three touchdowns. Lance Dunbar added 96 rushing yards and another score for UNT in a 41-35 loss.Only Oklahoma State scored more points against the Trojans this season. The 12th-ranked Cowboys narrowly beat Troy 41-38 on Sept. 11." "Dunbar posted his best performance in the running game against WKU, when he rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns. Dodge followed up that performance by racking up 300 yards of total offense against Troy a week later." With Zero Turnovers in both games. Pretty tough to ignore those facts, especially given the situation the team is in, Injuries, Playing with 3rd & 4th string players. Lets go get a win this week. Go Mean Green!

  6. Hi guys...I just found your sight and boy, it seems Denton, UNT and the Eagles are doing some really great and PROGRESSIVE things...LEED Gold Certification, wind energy, cycle-powered Rec Center...wow! Now when it comes to your burgers, I think Denton should also continue the PROGRESSIVE trend and do what I do...stop eating meat! Straight out of Walden, Mass...Thoreau's Thoroughly Vegan Burgers...the Transcendentalist's choice for meat-substitute burgers, veggie fries and raw milk shakes for nearly 160 years. Thoreau's uses only the finest in Fair Trade, Organic grains and alternative protein sources to make their delicious burgers, so you know that you're only consuming the best to eventually go into your self-composting toilet...because "Only the Best From Our Garden to Yours" is more than just a motto at Thoreau's. Try the original with Nayonaise...our their new Fake-on Teese VeganBurger. Thanks...and don't forget to GO GREEN when going Mean Green! VegansDoItBetter!

  7. To whom it may concern- I am not a Denton resident, but I have been consistently eating 1-2 hamburgers each year within the Denton city limits for the past six years. What I've seen in this press release is that Tim's Love Shack is the best, surest hope for quality hamburgers in Denton that the city could possibly hope for. If you people don't seize the opportunity that's right on your plate, I hope you all choke on your french fries. -InterestedDiner

  8. Hey guys, I'm a big fan of burgers and have had tried to eat one or two a year in the Denton area. I just wanted to say that Love's new restaurant is going to be really good. I heard they use only top meats and premium toppings and really focus on making the burger an experience. I know several folk like Denton Co. Hamburger or RJs, but I've hard those shops have trouble relating to today's customers. Trust me, your ol' pal, that Tim Love's Love Shack is the right fit for your burger needs! GMG! 13. I don't know about him being a buzz hire. He has the Stoops name but I didn't know he existed before tonight's info. How about Eric Stoops, he is undefeated as head coach? Maybe Shawn Paterno? Chris Bowden? Jerry Fry?

  14. But he did only show back up a couple months ago and now only writes about our coaching search..... Brah I'm now pulling for Canales to get the job if only to spite Plumm.

  15. Check this out guys.... When with Arizona, Stoops was the recruiter for North Texas. "He was recruited by Arizona defensive coordinator Mark Stoops, who recruits North Texas." http://www.dallasblog.com/index2.php?option=com_content&do_pdf=1&id=856268 Looks like he may have built a few connections in the area.....perhaps. It is just a little bit of information. But, the fact that he has recruited this area would certainly add another piece to the puzzle, if there is one.

  16. I like the idea, now that it's been brought up, although I still have Chico as a "sentimental" favorite. However, could we get over the idea of hiring someone from the outside and assuming that one or any of the current staff could/would be retained. If we want Stoops here, we'll have to hire him as HC and let him name his assistants. If we want Canales, we'll have to hire him as HC and let him name his assistants. Wishing/hoping to have one of our current staff favorites retained by any outside hire is just Jerry's World stuff.

  17. dude, their band was better than ours on saturday. we always play the same couple of songs, not very loud, not fully during the game, and it adds nothing to the experience. fly like an eagle gets old! i was glad their band was there and contributed to the game. our band is always the same music, nothing new. maybe the green brigade was cleaner/sharper/more in tune/whatever, but to the masses, they can't tell the difference. it's all about who was louder, played more, and was more entertaining...and that was the troy band. green brigade member 95-97, by choice, not major

  18. Well...your probably not going to get any more insight after you just blabbed it on a message board. You remind me of someone...Are you sure you're not my wife?

  19. Im pretty sure troy played more than 5 songs. I also believe the green brigade played the fight song and fly like an eagle the whole game. If your musicians are so great than these easy stand charts that every other college band play should be nothing for them to sight read. I don't think thats the case I think that those tunes are all the band could play well and thats ok but just because another schools "pep band" comes and blow you out the water doesn't mean u challenge their musicianship.

  21. What is hard for me to believe is that the same band that produces our football show also produces are basketball show. Correct? I know it is a completely different kind of band, but why is our basketball pep band 99% of the time better then then the opposing team and on the football field it seems that number is reversed?
    2 points
  22. As many times as I've heard the Green Brigade get drowned out by opposing bands, I'm starting to wonder if it has anything to do with accoustics in Fouts. I give it one more home game and if it happens again, we should just move to a new stadium.

  26. Me too. Plumm means well. He loves North Texas like no one else. He's just wound a bit tighter than usual. I'm doing all I can to talk him down from the clock tower ledge here in Parker County. It's not that we're worried he could get hurt, but his skull is so thick we don't want him to damage our newly rebuilt town square. Rick

  29. I imagine this is directed at one of my replies. I knew the band director, albeit briefly, back when he was an RA in Kerr Hall. I am not taking shots at him personally, nor do I question his spirit and pride in UNT. The band, IMHO, took a huge step up when he took over a few years ago. I just think there is a disconnect somewhere at UNT. Go to any other major college football game and compare how much the home team band contributes to the atmosphere, how tied into the game they are (ie--how often they play, key plays, lulls in the action, etc) to what we do at UNT. We're just not there...yet. To make matters worse, virtually every time an opposing team brings a band to Fouts they are louder than our band. That should NEVER happen. I don't care if they are amping their bass, miking their horns, etc....we need to realize this is an issue and make sure it stops happening. You keep wanting to take this criticism of the band itself and turn it into knocking the individuals who make up the band and us discounting their effort...and if that's how it's coming off, I apologize. Our band has had many of the same issues since I was in school ('96-'01)...I can assure you, this isn't a problem with the kids or their effort. Either way, radiogreen pretty much nails it here:

  30. Plumm may be a little off his meds lately, but he's a longtime loyal fan of this program. Not someone who only showed up on this forum a few months ago and only writes about our coaching search. As far as a name list of who else is annoyed and insulted by the Canales Family GMG Smile Time Carpet Bombing... Put my name at the top of it.

  31. It's a long thread, so I can only assume some of you have not read it all. Well before Troy was in I-A, it was at least partially known for its bands, Long School of Music and teachers college. The music program is renowned. Many, many high schools throughout the South and nation have Troy grads as their band leaders. Former (and I assume current) Troy band directors write music played by high schools and colleges worldwide. I was amazed to hear the ULM band play one of Troy's regular, originally written songs, last week! The Troy pep band has one amp. Period. Can one electric guitar have made all the difference? Almost everywhere the Troy Sound of the South goes, it leaves with great accolades. I witnessed a Sound of the South pep band smaller than the one that visited Denton embarrass the entire University of Miami marching band in the Orange Bowl (and, yes, the UM band is always miked). The Troy band in Denton was less than one-third the size of the full band. Here's the full band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQcXoHBIbZM I wasn't at the game last weekend, but enjoyed my trip there a few years ago (weeknight game). Your fans were friendly and welcoming. Good luck with the program and new stadium. It looks great.

  32. "Many, many alums I know who read this board are insulted" Name them PMG! If you are going to reference them in your post have the balls to name them, I dare you to name the many many alums. Or are they just made up like your (5) long time major donor friends? You're a wack job who lives in Fantasy Land!

  35. FSU bio page on Mark Stoops... http://www.seminoles.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/stoops_mark00.html I guess he could be considered a "name" guy although it's by relation. Defensive experience would be welcomed. No head coaching experience, spent one year at UH, was the Ariz recruiter for North Texas. I hope he has HC leadership qualities because we don't need on-the-job training for 3 years again. At 43 I think this would be a steping-stone job for him but hey if he wins and gets a BCS job we are better off than now.

  46. Ok, but Jones is in year 4 now. They did win 7 games last year but did not win their conference. They went 1-11 in Year 2. They went 1-11 in Year 1. This year they are 5-5. That is a four year record of 14-32 in the regular season, no conference championships and 1 bowl visit/win. Is that the model we want to emulate?

  47. Typical smug fucking idiot who believes whatever bullshit he is force-fed by Fox News response. Do we know how much Bush's clandestine trips to Iraq cost the taxpayers? What about Dick Cheney's almost-weekly trips to Jackson Hole, WY in a VIP Boeing 757 over the course of eight years? (which, if nothing else, cost my company untold amounts of money in holding fuel, delays, and diversions). Did we care then? No. These are the generally accepted costs of the United States Presidency. Why do you suddenly care now? Seriously, when will you admit that the only reason you and your ilk suddenly give a shit about any government spending is because the President is black...and, we just can't have that, now can we? This report originated in India, where 200,000,000 Indian Rupees comes out to about $4,523,761 US. Still a lot of money, but perhaps this was just a case of a conversion error that made things sound worse than they really are? Basic logic and rational thought would look at that possibility first. Or, maybe, the numbers are close, but that includes the monies spent by the media (which make up the majority of those 3,000 people), not the government. Of course, you can't throw the President you hate under the bus with such relatively small numbers...so, the $200 Million number flies with the extreme-right because it suits their purposes better. Facts be damned. If you want to bitch and whine about spending, how about that $190 million per day we've been spending in Afghanistan? Or, perhaps the more than $1.1 trillion we've spent in Iraq & Afghanistan combined since 2001 (your share comes out to about $7,655...and, ya know, the burden we all must carry for sending thousands of young men to their deaths for reasons that are still unclear). At least those numbers come from a legitimate accounting source, as opposed to the calculations of a noted mathematical genius like Michelle Bachmann. But, dammit, it was worth it, eh? I mean, we got bin Laden, afterall...right? I hate that I have to write in the same hyperbolic undertones as you (I prefer rational, civilized discussion), however, I deduce that hyperbole is what you are conditioned by your leaders (political, religious, and otherwise) to understand best. P.S. - Since it is the 5th of November, has anyone ever noticed the parallels between Lewis Prothero (in V for Vendetta) and Glenn Beck? Wow...disturbing.
