  1. PMG - I read your post (some good points) and certainly you're entitled to YOUR opinion. But please do us all a favor. Don't assume, or attempt to make other posters believe that your are the voice of GMG.com by posting the above quotes. You clearly don't know what "most think on this board" or "We on GMG.com" for that matter. When you post such quotes without facts; it only shows the lack of confidence you have in your own opinion by assuming others. It makes you look weak dude! Also, just because I only have (13) posts doesn't mean I have an agenda; it just means I may have a second GMG.com username

  2. First off, I'm not trying to be a smartass here, just trying to put another perspective on this. Although, I do dive in knowing some will take every opportunity thay can to pervert my meaning to justify cheap shots. I wonder how long all the "I told you so" will carry on. You guys need to hold back on some of this !!! Two things come immediately to mind. (A). Is it not possible that the way the kids played today, may be an indication that they (as the actual performers) were almost out of games left in their careers,season,etc...and that they may be personnally somewhat responsible for the demise of a coach ? With those realizations, reached down deep to use what they already had ?? Seems a little premature to insinuate this win is entirely due to the coaching change.( Hey ! we didnt play a good team today.....we played "us". Another weak team. If we win out (and I would love for that to happen !!) Then these wins with the same players would lend credence to the Dodge haters. But if we lose out with the same kids....who will this forum blame then ??? Just asking....

  3. Duly noted in some county record office. Never in my life have I seen so much emphasis placed on date of birth and college attendance when establishing the pecking order as I do around here. Well looky there. Closing in on 1300. That makes me quite happy for you. Because now, the New Orleans bowl is a premier showcase of athletic prowess. What does suffice? Top 50? Top 25? BCS national champions? There's a long ways to go before reaching any of those lofty expectations, so lets appreciate the small successes on the way. Sorry that UNT only beat up a crappy WKU this weekend. I called, but Oregon and TCU had already made other plans. How's the conservative capitalist agenda going over at the Eagle's Nest where it belongs?

  4. I'd probably argue that the 2005 SMU win was double the size of this win , but that's just me I'm thrilled we won. I just don't want to start TD threads after each loss / win in the future. Nothing is more tiresome than having to still hear about DD some 4years after the man left. I'm sure I'm guilty of a few myself so I'm not calling anyone out. Let's just all try to avoid bashing TD from here on out. I thank the man for trying , it just didn't work out. I wish him & his family nothing but the best in the future and if he's reading this I'd love to buy him some beer for the tailgate next weekend ! I think TD would be surprised how much of a warm welcome he would get with the fans if he did come out and say hi to the MeanGreen Nation

  5. Todd Dodge was here for 3 1/2 seasons. In the FIRST GAME after his dismissal, the team posts its most impressive victory - by a large margin - since before he was hired. I don't have the time or patience, but I truly wonder if that's ever been done before. Not only did the team take all of one bye week to perform far better than it EVER EVEN APPROACHED under Football Trilli, it posted its largest margin of victory since.... wait for it.... 2004. Two things: First, if there's even been a more painfully obvious case of addition by subtraction, I haven't seen it. Second, and most importantly, this gives us hope. I don't care that it was WKU (who throttled ULL into next Tuesday and has been damn competitive in their whole SBC slate thus far).... THIS WAS OUR BEST PERFORMANCE IN SIX YEARS. This gives us hope that maybe these players CAN play. Maybe, with actual college coaches and an actual sense of urgency, motivation, and a proper and competent game plan, we are in the position to be competitive next season. In this conference, with a proven coach, we shouldn't hope for it - we should expect it.

  6. This is why Canales is intriguing to me. He's passionate about coaching, but more so, about coaching at North Texas. This is an attitude I haven't seen in a coach here in years. From the post game video, it is also obvious that the coaches care for him. You put a man in charge that has the players and coaches working hard for him and you've got one of the main ingredients for success (recruiting being the other). I also have much respect for Riley. That young man has put up with a lot throughout his career as TD's son. To come back the week after your dad is fired, with a broken left wrist and to manage the game and produce a 27 point win with your teammates tells me alot about this young man. Glad he is on our team.

  7. I agree that part of this is an overreaction but even in the TD games, I may be wrong but I don't remember us kicking the crap out of WKU. Those were close games and nail biters that could have gone either way and with a little luck, we were fortunate enough to win. Today was just a beat down to the third degree. And this being after what has happened this season, the first game headed by Canales....I mean yes while it may be somewhat of an overreaction I think it is very encouraging what we saw. But the rest of the whole will be the true test and see how the team and coaching staff responds.

  9. An 0-12 WKU team rang up 49 points against UNT at Fouts last year. A 2-10 provisional WKU rang up 40 points against UNT at home in 2008 and lost on a last second pick-6 by Tobe in the waning seconds. That game could easily have been 47-44 in favor of WKU. An FCS WKU lost to UNT at Fouts by 1 point in 2007. Apologists gonna apologize, but in spite of the 4-0 record, it's not like WKU has a history of scoring only 6 points and offering no resistance whatsoever. This was a solid win. Period.

  10. But wait. This is the Sunbelt conference. Perhaps UNT would have beaten MTSU and Troy in head-to-head competition, but Troy and MTSU would have beaten each other while a butterfly flapped its wings in China and Howard Schnellenberger served omelets, thus handing the Sunbelt title and its bowl bid to none other than New Mexico St. See: Logic of the basketball standings.

  11. It would be nice to have some continuity with the program. If Canales is successful the remainder of this season, I would give him a shot.

  13. Dude....... really? It was probably the biggest upset for Tulsa in quite some time. People get a little excited sometimes. Maybe it was accidental. Maybe Notre Dame fans were harassing the band. I don't know, but it's really nothing to get your panties in a twist over...

  14. Two things ring loud and clear in this video: 1) the kids love Coach C, respect him and will run through a wall for him, 2) Coach C is in this for the Team (not any single player) and they trust him, see his honesty, and his desire to succeed. These simple traits are what all of the top 20 program coaches possess and is the foundation for the complete success package. Coach C is going to be a successful head football coach in my opinion. Question is, will it be at UNT or somewhere else? Stay tuned!!

  16. I want my infant to be a world-class sprinter, but he can't walk yet. Today, he stood up and took four steps before falling down, then got up and repeated the process a few times. He's not moving well, but my wife is excited to see him doing more than he has. Still, since I have my eye on the prize, I slapped her in the face and screamed at the kid, telling him to get his crap together, get in the blocks and win my medal. My higher expectations are going to make the difference.

  17. Check their conference schedule leading up to this one... no losses by more than one score, coming off a blowout win over ULL.. (fared better than we did against common opponents). new coach, at home, homecoming.... this wasn't provisional WKU here. This was a strong, strong unexpected win based on where we are. No need to throw "buts" on it. GMG!

  18. Wouldn't it be a lot better to toast foremost the players and the coaching staff for a very good game than use this for an opportunity to pile on the ex-coach? Frankly, no one can really know what would have been the results if Dodge was still the coach. Todd Dodge went out with style, and hopefully will remain a big supporter of NT. Lets try to focus on the future and hope for several more wins for Canales and the team. The Troy game certainly doesn't look as hopeless as it appeared yesterday.

  19. You are blaming Riley for Canales potentially not getting the job? Wow. Wow. wow. jesus. UNT dropped 3 interceptions too. It happens. Riley had a solid game. It isn't an accident that our running game started working when they had to respect the QB.
    2 points
  20. Well, it certainly isn't an "Amazing Fact." We beat this team every year, we had two weeks to prepare and have Riley back at the helm. Not so Amazing. It is a win though. A win that I expect to get.

  21. Is it an overreaction? We just went up to a team's homecoming game, after getting our coach fired and our defense who was giving up a TD on the opponents opening drive game after game, held them to no TD's after they got 54 points last week...and we win 33-6, I would definately call that a pretty big win.

  25. Huge Win for the Team.... They played with passion. Would have been easy to give up on the 2010 Season like some of the fans. Congratulations to the players, they deserve to be happy. They have worked hard.

  28. He's a very passionate guy. I don't think RV is in a hurry to name a HC , because Chico deserves the chance to atleast show what he can do

  29. That, thus far in SBC play, has losses of 7 and 5 points and a win by 33. They could have easily been 3-0 in conference and had not lost by more than one score. .... and we beat them - humiliated them- by 27 points. In their house. After the biggest win in their program's history. On their homecoming.

  30. Have to agree with this. WKU is 1-7. Riley was back at QB instead of Baine; nothing against Baine he just needs more experience. A couple other players were back that we didn't have against FIU. I love Canales' passion and his ability to motivate players but lets cool the jets on naming him HC until we see how the rest of the season turns out and who the other candidates are. I know I would keep Canales over the Prairie View coach or some OU assistant. One last thing...the best compliment from the WKU broadcasters on the webcast: "WKU needs to stop scheduling UNT for the homecoming games."

  34. There is no clear cut dominator in our conference this year. It is sort of like the NFL is this year...anybody can win on any given week. That is why I am a little optimistic about next week in that if these guys are inspired and play balls out like they did today then I really like our chances of making it a game and possibly even winning.

  35. Have we lost to the Hill Toppers in the last four years, really biggest win? Most dominate win but still the Toppers, I think we should wait to see how we look against Troy before we start swapping spit. I had heard that TD had lost the team long ago.

  39. You win a game then you must ask the other team how to celebrate without hurting their feelings? Give me a break. If you don't want the other team celebrating on your field or in your stands then do not have a stupid coaching mistake at the end of the game. Bottom line: If you win then you celebrate and play your fight song as loud as you freaking can....

  40. You mean that crazy scheme that the Oklahoma coaches mocked openly in Todd's first game while running up the score? Tell you what -- we'll promise not to bother ourselves with what goes on in District 7-5A from here on out if you return the favor.
