Are you serious with yourself right now? You're really gonna knock Riley after that game?! What did he do to deserve that? He played a hell of a game. His feet kept many plays alive, while also picking up some big 1st downs. He took alot of shots that I wasn't expecting him to get up from. He threw 1 INT and that was a pass that was deflected by his receiver. And the reason Riley was "pulled" to WR to let Lance run the Wildcat is bc, well, thats what the Wildcat is!! A RB lined up at QB, it's been a new fad in football for the last few years. There is a reason Riley was moved to WR, he can't throw the ball downfield. So what do you want from him? He did what he was asked to do, manage the game. Be a field general. I think he did a damn good job of that tonight.5 points

I didnt want to add this to the other Riley thread because that thing is a totally wheels off. I liked what I saw from Riley last night. There, I said it. He used his feet to keep several plays alive, when he took sacks they were ones Michael Vick couldnt have avoided, and he played his heart out. His arm strength is well documented, as are the injuries that contribute to it. Do I think the ball should have been in his hands less? Yes. Do I think that was play calling and totally out of his control? Again, yes. He did what he could with what he had. Zero turnovers. The crucial (should have been) game tying drive kept alive by his feet. A good game in my book.3 points

How much more heartbreak can this team take? Over the last few seasons I've seen these team lose games in ways I didn't think were possible. This one is probably the worst. In a game where we show the heart, show the want, show we have what it takes to win a game. This just hurts. Bad News Bears only 10x worse. I really feel for everyone on the team. After a loss like this I wouldn't be surprised if they go 0-fer the rest of the season.2 points

Riley made some plays last night that very few QB's in this league can. I know he's had his share of turnovers in the past with the way he carries the ball. And he doesn't have the deep ball threat. But overall, his skill and ability to buy himself time, rush to the open area and take advantage of misdirection, and most amazingly, throw the ball and get it into an open receivers' hands while on the run is incredible to me. Think it's easy? Go outside and try throwing a football to a target 10 yards away while on a full dead sprint to the opposite side of your throwing arm and see how stupid you feel because your so off the target? We are lucky to have him. Rick2 points

On the flipside of this, does DeLoss Dodds ever walk around the parking lot several hours prior to the game greeting people at different tailgate areas? Rick Villareal has demonstrated time and again that he has an intense passion for OUR University to succeed. You wanted to go down there and chew out a referee too didn't you? It's because you're a fan. I think you would be hard-pressed to find a bigger UNT athletics fan than Rick Villareal.2 points

Your stance will change once people outside of this board give a damn about UNT football.2 points

Seriously? Is this how that play is being credited, that Jermain Rogers "BLOCKED" the kick? And in the Advertiser story, Bustle is also giving his player the credit for "BLOCKING" the kick? Are you kidding me? I give Jermain Rogers credit for protecting Fortenberry's kidneys on that kick. Geezzz! Rick2 points

Guy has no class and is not the type of human being I would want representing my university. There are plenty of other quality coaches that UNT can talk with when and if that time comes that could bring the wins without the idiot personality and classless attitude that Leach would bring. Just my opinion. There are as many Tech folks extremely happy to see Leach gone as there are those that miss him...at least among my Tech friends. I prefer to see UNT build a winning program with class.2 points

The cost is relative to the revenue that would be generated by a winning program developed by a known coaching genius.2 points

I'm guessing RV simply reached his boiling point considering the amount of S!@# he has witnessed thus far.2 points

I will never stop pulling for this team. Those young men out there scratched, clawed, and fought to get back in the game last night. I hold no ill will whatsoever toward the players. The problem is simply, they aren't being "coached up" well AT ALL. These players aren't stupid, most mental mistakes during games can be traced to lack of preparation in practice and the general sideline chaos that seems to prevail during games. I trust RV will make whatever moves that are necessary to correct the coaching problem. Until then, I support the Mean Green unconditionally. Just because I am not satisfied with the leadership provided by our coaches, I can not abandon our players and the efforts they give. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!2 points

What's embarrassing about that? Would you prefer it if RV didn't give a shit?2 points

It's pretty embarrassing when your Athletic Director rushes to the field because of a blown call. It was a bad decision of the refs not to blow it down, but come on? Seriously RV? Was Deloss Dodds running out of the Cotton Bowl press boxes when some of those officials made bad calls in the UT/OU game?2 points

The pace RV went down those stairs was funny. He wanted a piece of a ref I think. Those refs were beyond horrible all night. Another reason I want us out of this bush league.2 points

Riley made some mistakes, but overall he played a gutsy game for a 3rd string QB. The fault is on the coaches shoulders.2 points

RV absolutely has to wait until the 6th loss to fire Dodge. Any sooner and he will have no credibility with any of his current or future employees. Your word is your word. I trust RV already has a short list of coaching candidates ready to go and will be able to hit the ground running. That said, Dodge ain't done yet but the lady with the horns on her hat is warming up.2 points

No radio. No televsion. No keeping up on the 'net via phone. Just missed it. First time in...I don't know...five, six years. I stopped listening and going near the end of the Dickey era as well. Came home late. Read the official recap. Buzzed through the stats. Then read most of the threads here in their entirety. Then, I just laughed. And laughed, and laughed, and laughed. F'ing F, dudes. Lousiana is one of the worst teams we'll play all season. 3/5th of the line gone. Record setting halfback gone. QB gone. I can't do it anymore. All I can do is laugh. And laugh, and laugh, and laugh. This thing is done. Out, man. See ya at the press conference for the new coach in December. Tecate makes a good beer. Drink it, if you must drink until then. I will.1 point

Pretty large group of recruits at the ULL game. I didn't catch the players' names, but two recruits played for the "Sabertooths" or Sabertigers, or something close to that. Also a recruit named Cobbs I think. Saw a big kid from Denton Guyer, possibly a basketball recruit. Looked to be 6-8+.1 point

I'm saying to do something different than what they are currently doing. Over 5 Personal fouls is crazy. Tell me when in the past 6 years we could afford to give up nearly 100 yards in personal foul penalties alone. Look at all the games that we lost by 5 points or less. Bone head plays will get you beat. Yes, waste a timeout to let your team know this isn't going to be tolerated. Todge job is on the line and these type of penalties don't help his case. Besides, 3 of the personal fouls came on 3rd Down when we ended up stopping them. But instead of them punting, 1st and 10 La La. I would think about stopping it ASAP before it could cost you any more close games!!!1 point

I think the new stadium will fill itself for the first game or two. We could trot out 11 physics majors for the first game and the place will probably be sold out. The team needs to win, and people will show up. It's as simple as that.1 point

I guess you are right with this statement. My frustration probably shouldn't be so with Riley, but with Todd Dodge. I guess the reason I'm giving him such a hard time is b/c of his dad's coaching. Riley did play his best and I shouldn't be knocking him so hard. Just tired of losing and being on this same music track.1 point

Say what you want about Riley, but he battled out there tonight.1 point

I think alot of you who are saying that you wouldn't mind the coaching staff going for the 2pt conversion, missing, and being ok with it are completely full of it. To me, it was a no-brainer. You get your points and you take your chances in OT. I know the kicking game is atrocious, but he didn't miss the other 3 PAT's tonight...Why think he would miss that one? We had the momentum at the time, so you go into overtime and win it there. Then, boom. Just a total kick in the nads. THE TEAM (players & coaches) should shoulder this loss. There were plenty of mistakes to go around. You can't point the finger at any one person (coach or player).1 point

When I saw that big Ulala guy slap the PAT down like a mosquito I got physically ill. I thought the entire contents of my body would drop right out of my bowels and spill onto the floor. This has gotten uglier than ugly.1 point

Riley got hit hard tonight and the arm strength is clearly not there. But I'll admit this much. The sheen off the Southlake glamboy has worn off and I'm starting to see a little grit under the surface.1 point

Really?! You don't think people would be all over the coaches if they went for 2 and didn't make it?! Going for 1 was the no-brainer call. But you've got to get your trajectory above 7 feet at the LOS.1 point
-
Well, we did just have a death on the team. I half expected to get our asses kicked tonight. I figured the team would have no focus. Plus, we even came back twice from fairly large deficits. So yes, I think the staff did a good job considering what the team went thru this week. We still lost - but this week I'm not gonna criticize them. That doesn't mean they get a mulligan, but it also means I am more understanding this week.1 point

That's just cosmetics brah. The real problem is what's going to be on the field sporting Mean Green gear.1 point

As I said in the chat, the game plan from last week WORKED. Why abandon it so early this week? The penalties AGAIN show me how undisciplined we are. We need a clean slate in the worst way.1 point
