Yeah, Let the Wings, who actually had their field passes revoked for showing up to the sidelines DRUNK take over a cannon. I have to give them props though, they were on the sidelines before kickoff last game. I spent 3 hours this evening talking to the president and Cannon Crew. Everyone chill out. There is a new prwsident who has taken over qnd is well aware of the problems and is addressing them. The Big Ass flag is safe and should make an appearance tomorrow, they have a key for the tower, and they are taking things seriously.4 points

I think our Under Armour Jerseys/Uniforms are really looking good these days. There isn't a team we go play that has any better uniforms than we do. The old eagle on the helmets and the dead dark green uniforms were awful. We really looked like a DI AA or DII team in those outfits. Hats off to whoever decided on these uniforms and I hope we keep the same look going into the new stadium. (Maybe for special games bring in black top with White pants. This would be a nice added change but not necessary. I would rather they save the money and put it into recruiting and keep facilities up to date. Go Mean Green!!3 points

I didn't bring what you did in the past, you were. I'm also not saying you're wrong, simply that between '96-01 you were scarce. Starting in 2002 you mighta been alumnus of the century (I know you built the new carriage which was really well done) - I was just asking a question. Again, problems come up with this sorta junk. Did Talons drop the ball? Any one of these I can give a pass on, but all 3 together makes one ask questions, no doubt. I wouldn't deny that. I also understand their were problems at times when I was around, and I'm sure when you were too, even if you might have forgotten (as we get further away from college, things seem to have been better when we were there!). Just like when folks slam the Green Brigade, or the Frats, the Wings, the Gay and Lesbian Homecoming nominees, or whatever other group we like to run into the ground around here (because it's what GMG does BEST!)-- someone who is/was a member/concerned citizen/alumni is gonna provide a defense. And I just want to say I think UNTFive&Dime had the best reply of the whole freaking thread.3 points

I stopped by the stadium yesterday(Damn it's fantastic to see!) and spoke with officials about stadium donations and wanted to clear up a couple of misconceptions I learned about I think that are floating around. If there are others post them here and someone can probably answer them. For one, if you are a current season ticket holder and, like I was, having concerns that for next year your going to get priced out of your seats, that simply IS NOT TRUE AT ALL. There will be a slight increase as I'm certain everyone understands due to the overall facility upgrade, but they will not be significant to the point you cannot keep your current seats. So please, if your holding out a donation because your worried about having to save up for that BIG increase next year, please donate now and get on board with this project. It does not matter how much you give, just give what you can. Second, again, it does not matter what you give. If your holding out your donation because you simply don't feel what you can give will make a difference, NOT TRUE AT ALL. Every amount counts. We have the power in numbers at North Texas. There is a bland UNT billboard on east I-30 in Fort Worth right now that simply reads(paraphrasing of course) "94,000 alumni work in the DFW metroplex". I'm hearing that number rises to over 150K when considering outside of the DFW area and around the 5 state region? If everyone of them simply gave just $100 we would be making a huge difference overall. So please give what you can. Three, if you are wanting club seats but are concerned about your seats being inside and don't want to sit inside, again NOT TRUE AT ALL. The Club seating IS outside, in the weather. But you will have access inside behind the glass. This is similar to what KajunRaider and the boys have at MTSU, only nicer. You'll have access to someone coming down and taking concession orders plus a damn nice indoor facility to retreat to whenever you want, and there are some incredibly great prices for what is included in this package. Four, if you do purchase Club seats, and when the stadium host other events such as concerts, you as a Club seat owner will have first right of refusal for that event. This is a fantastic option for what you get. I know there probably are more concerns out there and the AD dept is collecting them all for an informational FAQ that hopes to be out this Fall. If you have one share them here or give the AD dept a call and let them know. Folks, I know times are tough right now and this is asking everyone to go above and beyond what you normally do for this school. But this is the biggie for North Texas. THIS IS IT! If there ever was a time to go above and beyond, THIS IS THE TIME. Give whatever you can and get on board now. You'll feel great that you did and next year when you walk into that beautiful stadium with your family and kids/grand kids you can show them what you helped build with Mean Green pride. If you have any questions or concerns at all I suggest you get them answered by calling Cooper Jones at 940-369-8268 or 502-544-9001. Rick2 points

OK, FFR and SUMG (and the rest of ya') I take the bite because I want to do my part. Yall have inspired me to do what I have not been able to due to this>>>>>>>>> As another medically uninsured American I have had some health concerns the last few years that hospitals actually like to be paid their bills concerning such and in those last few years that has put me (as many other Americans) in a financial hole and behind in my gifts to UNT. So... As some of you know, I DJ events many weekends and even some weeknights in the DFW area. For Fort Worth area events a DJ can get anywhere from $1,000-$1,400 (or more) for most 4 hour events. In Dallas, for weddings those DJ's make a killing (pardon the business jargon). Here's My Deal Which Could Be Good For UNT, You and.....Me: For anyone who books my DJ services who is part this board or has a UNT connection & mentions this Mean Green Stadium Building Fund here is how it would break down: For Any 4 Hour Event (wedding reception, birthdays, karaoke events, reunions, etc) that I book with any GMG.com member: An $800.00 quote for any 4 hour event with half that amount ($400) being written in a check (by you) to the North Texas Stadium Fund. You decide yourself if you want to put "on behalf of Soundworks Productions" on the check note area or not. I'm not expecting an avalanche here since many of you are probably not in need of a DJ for anything, but (hellsbells!) if I get only "1" out of this that is an additional $400 more for Mean Green Football Stadium Building Fund that you (the client) and me (the vendor) made happen. BTW, if you want to add it, this promo includes free karaoke (over 17K tracks on my laptop) for your event and karaoke is usually a $100 extra. I DJ with a laptop for the most part and have a very extensive music library of songs of all genres--I do mean "ALL" genres. (For non-wedding events I might ask permission to display a DJ tip jar if it would be OK). My website is: www.soundworksdeejay.com If anyone needs a DJ for an upcoming wedding or special event, please fill out the "Contact Form" at the bottom of the website's first page, mention the Mean Green Stadium Building Fund promotion then click "Submit Information" and all your information will go directly to my email. We will eventually talk over the phone to see if we are a good match for what you want at your event. For references, check out the "Endorsement" page of the website. GMG! PS: I'm behind on my gifts to UNT, but I hope for a 4'th quarter Hail Mary sorta' come-back! PS II: Have already had a contact on this special promo for an upcoming wedding.2 points

Would not want to kick out Monroe even if La Tech is clearly an upgrade. ULM joined in football when we needed a team after La Tech bailed while the conference was forming. Then they moved the rest of their teams over when we needed them for all sports even though they have more of a Southland budged and were faced with higher costs in the Belt. They did the Belt a favor twice when it was not really to their advantage to do so. Conferences don't kick out schools easily. How many years has Denver been given and if they can't find another home I'm sure the conference President's will grant them an extension. School that do get kicked out actively do something to deserve it.2 points

No, more misinformation by you. Chris and I worked together getting the new barrel ordered from Dixie Guns Works, I placed the order for the new, bigger NT Battle Flag from ABC Flag of Fort Worth and had it monogrammed by Philip Dean just before he was killed in the Lake Worth Church fire in the spring of '99. But again, this isn't about me, it's about the current regime. Rick1 point

Mean Green Soccer beat ULM 4-0, and Mean Green Volleyball took down ULL 3-1. Soccer team turned it on at the end while I was at the vball game, so I'm not sure yet how the goals were scored. By the way, the atmosphere inside the Mean Green Volleyball Center is awesome! It was pretty full, and they had a live band playing in between points. If you can check it out at least once this season! Good night for UNT volleyball and soccer! Go Mean Green! Beat the Cajuns Tomorrow! Soccer Article Volleyball Article1 point

I'm not sure why your so concerned with the past? The past has nothing to do with the light tower not being lit after our win last Saturday, or the lack of the NT Battle Flag making an appearance at our home opener two Saturday's ago, or the condition I witnessed Boomer in prior to the Rice game, all during THIS YEAR. I don't suppose it's occured to you that I and the Swartz' and several others have tried the touchy, feely(I'm so concerned for your feelings and will promise to tip toe around them) approach...FOR YEARS trying to get things corrected. However, as President Obama tells us on a DAILY basis, this is not about ME. I didn't start this thread nor did I mention first here that the job that the current Talon regime is responsible for is not getting done. Again, those who are outside of Talons are noticing this and here you are defending them? And as long as we have folks at the university that feels or cares about it as you do, and makes excuse after excuse for the failings of this organization as you have done here, then the problems will continue and never get corrected. Again, it doesn't matter what kind of good guy/bad guy you or I or anyone else is around here, the fact of the matter is this is a service(to the University of North Texas) organization that the university currently funds to carry out certain specific responsiblities and duties, and currently the university isn't getting it's money's worth. So are you saying that because you felt your era did a poor job that it is ok for the current group to do a poor job also as long as they themselves CARE? I hope that isn't what your saying because if so, that is another pitiful excuse for the current group's performance. Besides, it doesn't really matter what we Talon alumni think. It's what the university and the fans of the Mean Green that the current Talons serve thinks and as you can see it has been noticed by the outsiders that this current group isn't getting it done. Interestingly, when one certain group from the past wasn't getting it done with Scrappy(Eppy), the AD dept was forced to step in and took Scrappy away from the Talon reponsibilities and gave it to the cheerleaders instead. I'm certain that current group CARED about it, otherwise they wouldn't have come crying to me when it happened. But at the end of the day CARING and having feelings about a job being done poorly is still a job being done poorly. I swear I'm starting to respect Craig Helwig more and more for that move with each and every passing season. Rick1 point

I love ya Emmitt, but very few really people really knew who we were. Other student groups yes, because we tried to make ourselves more known to them (especially your efforts when you were VP), but school spirit was so lacking when we were around, that the average person didn't know who we were. We got mistaken for the Wings ALL THE TIME. In my own world - folks in the RTVF department by and large didn't know who we were - and a surprising number of them were real sports fans (stereotypes be damned). Alumni in general ALWAYS say it's not the same when they were in school - that's like the first rule of being an alumn! It's quite amusing for you to beat your chest about Talons being so much worse now than it was when we were walking the campus because you and I had many conversations about how the alumni needed to get over the fact that it was different than when they were around. Sure we liked when the alums showed up here and there, but we also resented if they tried to push us around. So can you blame the membership now if they do the same thing?1 point

(heavy sigh) Rick, if another flag needs to be purchased please contact me for a contribution. The same goes for cannon supplies. I'll also go in on yearly tune-ups for the model-A. If there are any mechanical problems with the model-A, my local mechanic is prize winner at car shows for his restored model-A's, and I will be glad to try and get him involved with maintaining the car.1 point

Being a Talon Alum, I can verify that crap does happen. Wait to pass judgement. I'm going to e-mail the president.1 point

Not too hard to find the referenced thread Rick - but here was what the current Talons President sent out. Now, was this something that could have been avoided? Probably. But, I sure as hell didn't check that box everyday when I was in school, so if campus security had slapped on a new lock I wouldn't have known until the next time I tried to turn it on either. Now the question to me is, how long ago had this been bolted shut? I would think that if they'd been turning the light on for the soccer gals or whatnot, they would have realized this --- unless it had been done within the 48 hours or so previous to the football win.1 point

If you have an alternate jersey that is black with the kelly green...those will look very very sharp. With that you wouldn't have the white helmet but an alternative and legitimate black uniform would like dynamite in my opinion.0 points

I don't think I've ever seen a college black jersey that I really liked. Come to think of it, there aren't many black football jerseys that I think look good - the Pittsburgh Steelers jersey would be an exception (somehow it works for them with the mix of gold and white). I don't like the TTech black jersey either. OSU black jerseys also looked bad. I think our current color scheme looks pretty good - I just long for the day when we don't have to spell out the name of our school on the helmets0 points

Rick, I wrote out a long ass Plumm like response, but I figured it can be summed up shortly in like 3 sentences. You're a good guy - one of the best fans we have. I wish we had tens of thousands of people that cared as much about the Mean Green as you do. But your my way or the highway tenor (about this and several other NT related subjects) is the kind of thing that pushes people away rather than embraces them. There's that saying about honey draws more than vinegar - at times you'd be well inclined to follow it.0 points

That's just a dark photo of a green jersey. I wouldn't mind a "special game" black jersey like basketball has but not without a green helmet and lots of green trim. Perhaps multiple helmets like Baylor, Ok st., Oregon, and several schools have now? We also need to take "North Texas" off the helmet since it is also on the jersey!!!-1 points
