Simple as this: Being a HC is like being a CEO. If you cannot produce, you are thrown out the door. It is time to take all the personal, lovey dovey stuff out of it and go find a new coach who can make it happen. You cannot possibly enter a new season, going into an entirely new stadium, expecting great things with the same ole' song and dance. Here we have an entirely new venue that brings excitement, only to be potentially drowned by the disappointment in the leadership of the team (main attraction). Winning is exciting, losing is what we have now. Folks, we need a HC that will make men out of boys, ratchet it up in the weight room and practices and kick their tails when they are not performing correctly. TD came in with the High School attitude, told the players they could not cuss, set curfews for them and treated them like High School players. All of this blew up in his face and for the last five years we have seen the product it has turned out. Good players have simply left the program because of this babysitter attitude. Constantly, the other coaches are making excuses for this type of "Leadership". We need a coach with an iron fist and a mouth of a sailor who wants nothing but success through example. Enough of the diapers and baby powder! Some will talk about how the GPA's have improved, how the players interact more with the fans, etc. but if you get a winning team alot of that stuff simply falls in place. These players are beaten down so bad, the injured one's act as if they could care less about not traveling with the team to away games to even provide support. Don't believe it, drive over to Victory Hall and take one out for a bite to eat. You will become educated quickly, but not surprised in the end! We need a HC that is atleast proven at the collegiate level. TD simply cannot cut hot butter at this level. He truly has no good interaction with the community on a steady basis, is not seen out in the Denton community except only on the highway burning it up from home to work and back. He lost my support when he failed to seek the continued support of the fans. He has only done the minimal on campus and that was when he was prodded by RV. We need excitement, starting at the student level, then the community. We need fans to be inside of the stadium, not at their tailgating spot watching other teams on tv. It is a sad day when on Friday nights at Clark Park, a Pep Rally has more Athletic Staff present than Coaches and Players. Simply disgusting. Further, how many thousand students live in the dorms and there is free food and drink to go along with the Rally and we only have a few hundred show up. We have a problem and it all rests on the shoulders of the coach. That is what he gets paid for and the job entails more than simply coaching the team. Time to kick this thing in high gear and get a coach worth a nickel (and pay him), and get some excitement going. I don't want to hear about what could have been. We see what we got and now it is time to go get the real deal. Let's cut our losses and move along. Don't make it personal, make it realistic.4 points

I know this has a been a tough week for our football players, with the injuries, negative publicity and inevitable departure of Coach Dodge but I just wanted to give them some motivation for tommorrow's game. There is no other team, the entire Mean Green Nation would like to see you beat then FAU, they have an ugly streak against us and no other game would turn things around like us beating FAU. So here's hoping for a great game and our first win of the still early season. GO MEAN GREEN BEAT THE OWLS2 points

It's just more salt on the wound as to how bad we really are and how far we have fallen the last 6 years. It's quite nauseating. Change can't get here soon enough.2 points

At that time, and similar to now also, UNT was hungry to make a splash with local media and recruits. We wanted a coach that knew North Texas, with Texas ties, high school connections, an exciting passing offense, that would only require a salary of $250-350K. Dodge fit the bill, and he had previously coached at NT . He sold RV on his "football plan" that would convey to any level of competition and I don't think RV questioned or cared who he named as assistants. In hindsight, Dodge was a good hire as far as media relations, school PR and cleaning up the program with players grades and going to class. His downfall will be inexperienced assistants around him, too much focus on offense and not on defense, learning to be a HC on the college level...delegation of responsibility, and just flat out lack of wins.2 points

I just did. Smut got a TD from a tipped ball into the hands of another receiver. A bad punt snap bounched off the shoulder of a blocker and the punter takes it for a first down. All the bungles went Smut's way. Yes the margin of loss should have been at least 31.2 points

One of my most traumatic childhood memories is that of watching the wooly manliness that was Doug Flutie's midriff scurrying around the Orange Bowl. Please do not bring a return of this jersey style and subject me to such things again.2 points

They led the #4 team in the country in the 3rd quarter. Their other loss was by 7 in Lubbock. UNT just lost 24-0 to Army. Not really in a position to be taking shots at SMU football. I think TCU has way too many athletes for anyone in the MWC to handle.2 points

And please leadeth us across on a pedestrian bridge, so that no 18 wheeler doth smite us causing further injuries, yea even unto death. Also, please blesseth us so that no student-athletes in the fifth recruiting year following Darrell Dickey's curse being placed upon us shall suffer the sins of his fathers and be affected by the curse.2 points

Wait...what's the thesis here? Is it that God shouldn't be concerned with something as trivial as a football game? This is a stance I can get behind. Is it that it was not clear that the prayer was meant as a joke by someone? People miss jokes - good and bad - on the board all the time. It happens and no one can fault you. Is it that you want everyone to pray better so that God helps our team win and makes our athletes achieve enough success to play in the NFL? I don't think that's how He works, although it would explain Kurt Warner. Still, no matter what you meant, GMG! Beat FAU into the ground!2 points

Agreed. Wish A&M and OU had gone to the SEC. Both are too afraid of real competition, though.1 point

+1 I like your prediction better than mine, with that quick td by Maryland with about 4 minutes left. I especially like your "they'll be in every game".1 point

Cristobal took over a dismal, winless Strock team and started seeing significant improvement in year one. We should expect the same next year. Also, they'll probably be 0-4 in OOC, but will still be a huge threat in the Belt. They'll be in every game.1 point

Let's just change this website to gosmu.com Come on guys. Really? Another thread?1 point

Thank you for your courage. The only team that is getting screwed badly right now is NT Mean Green football. Should have been 31? Please that's crazy. Nobody was expecting SMU to win but don't diminish they played a pretty good game. Dalton threw those interceptions...it's that simple. You can't discredit that from SMU.1 point

Georgio, yes. Junior, no. He's a "Corby Lite" version of supporting OU over his Alma-Mater. Hard Line, absolutely not. No need for the anti-Texas schools, USC/OU cheerleading squad.1 point

Anyone trying to discredit SMU last night is disillusioned as they would eat our lunch right now. They even filled up the stadium (it was SMU fans by majority) so they took away the attendance problem we can poke fun of for this week. How happy was this board after we lost 35-10 to Clemson? We weren't nearly as close in that game as SMU was to a much better squad last night. Quit yer bitchin' and give them their dues1 point

It doesn't matter if it's a 11am game on a monday , it's the 1st game in the new stadium. If fans really want to come they will show up. There are other games that are also played on every thursday. ESPN would rather air teams that are good than air the worst team in the nation. Just because we get a new stadium doesn't mean we are going to start getting any new respect. Other teams have new stadiums as well. Our chances being on tv increase with the amount of wins not because we get a new stadium. See SMU , from 1-11 to a bowl winning season & they've already had 2 games on ESPN this season.1 point

What I think greenqueen may have meant (at least it fits my feelings) is that some of the prayer references are blasphemous. Why do it?1 point

Awesome. Way to get a moral victory for one half and get blown out on national TV. SMU has made it.1 point

This is EXACTLY why I have been advocating that we hire a coach like Don Carthel. He did all of the things that you listed above right after he took the job at WTA&M. He won, he provided the fans with an exciting product, and he WORKED THE COMMUNITY. As a result WTA&M has an average attendance that is twice the size of their enrollment (14K vs 7K). http://gobuffsgo.com/coaches.aspx?rc=200&path=football I see the young Franchione as being a person/coach in the same mold.1 point

A couple of weeks ago, I stopped off at Albertson's on the way home (121 and Glade) and there was the Hardline, set up in front of the bread section jabbering away. It can't be THAT difficult.1 point

SMU brought in a top notch Athletic Director and he knew what needed to be done, and he did it in a short amount of time. The turnaround was quick and dramatic. I am certain 2011 will be our turn around year.1 point

A lot of talk about coaching, consultant reports and injuries, but very little about the game tomorrow. It is obviously the most important game of the year, it should demonstrate whether this team is going to continue to decline or pull together and be a factor in the Belt. Although with the injuries, NT's odds have certainly diminished from a promising open day showing. I think the team will rally and play tough. If Riley can get back close to were he was last year and the defense continues to evolve, NT will have a chance. Under the circumstances, I am not sure many would bet on the Green, but the team can still rebound and upset FAU. The defense and Dunbar will have to have big games, but that is certainly possible. Just remember that Dickey's championship teams were usually very bad in oc play, and the conference doesn't appear to be particularly strong this year. Most of us will continue to support the team no matter what, but until NT is eliminated from the league championship; there is still hope this year can be salvaged.1 point

Harry, I'll be expecting my $10,000 check in the mail. The GoMeanGreen.com Report The Domain of GoMeanGreen.com is a website that is cool. It has lots of posters. One time, there were 251 posters on at one time! It clearly has “potential”, which is defined as “aint done nuthin yet”. My mission is to assess the website and deliver a comprehensive report that Harry and his minions can use as leverage to beat up ponyfans.com. I have observed the message board for over 3 years and have come to the conclusion that using humor or large fonts with multiple colors will gain individuals respect from others. If you’re talking trash against UNT, you’re gonna get smacked with -1’s. I have also observed the “cool kids” posters and their ability to take a useless thread to begin with and totally derail it into a fun HOF-worthy thread, only to be fumbled for over 3 months by mods before taking its rightful place in the HOF forum. It is also advantageous to one’s reputation if the poster is able to fly aircrafts and take quality pictures. I have also observed several sporting events and the reactions they receive from posters on GMG.com. My conclusion is that the posters are happy when North Texas wins any competition, and they are irate when North Texas loses any contest. The recent board upgrades are going to bring new interest and vitality to the board. My recommendations to the board are as follows: Start a baseball forum: I believe this is in the master plan of the site. Advertise on sites like Yahoo.com & Google.com, and block any links from TheBleacherReport. Register more firemen, Agean-descent, and female posters, and less Tulsa fans, fact checkers, and porn spammers. Regulate the Conference realignment threads to 1 per year. My hope is that with a better message board, we can finally put a man on the moon, find BinLaden, and extend Johnny Jones’ contract. God Bless GoMeanGreen.com Prepared by: MeanGreenTexan. NEVER bet with your heart. This team is decimated by injuries. If anyone leads this team to a victory, it will be Lance Dunbar.1 point

Oh Good Lord, thanks for letting us wander in the wildnesss for almost 40 years as this has driven even more Mean Green fans to religion and that can't ever be bad. Amen. GMG! PS: Lord, before some of us go on up to Mean Green heaven, do you mind allowing us to beat FAU at least once? Thanks in advance. GMG!!1 point

I grew up in Ft. Worth and am very happy for GP and the Frog's success...but I can't help but think back to standing next to Green Lantern in the southwest end zone thinking that we had every chance in the world to win that game everytime I see that #4 next to TCU...1 point

No, please explain to me how that works.. We haven't played SMU in four years, won't play them again for another two years and play in a totally different conference so why do we need a pregame thread and a post game thread every week about them? It really gets embarrassing . You know SMU fans are somewhere laughing reading this stuff knowing that we have "UNT fans" that are more loyal to SMU than their own school.0 points

As I sit here and watch the SMU/TCU game, I watch a team that was 1-11 two years ago go toe to toe with the #4 team in the nation. A tie game midway through the 2nd. Although SMUt may end up losing, it's pretty clear they have not only turned the corner, but are already a couple of blocks away. How did they get there? They spent the money to bring in a proven college football coach (yes, I know the alums were the main factor in this) RV, BOR, and LJ, I'm not asking you to spend 2 mil a year for a coach, but the days of UNT head football coach being the one of the lowest paid head coaching positions in college football have to end NOW. 500k. NO EXCUSES. FIND THE DAMN MONEY.0 points

That is a bunch of bull. The line was 17, they lost by 17 but it should have been by 31 except for two picks thrown by Dalton. TCU was uninspired to play them. And I didn't see a majority of red in the crowd, as much purple as red and the others beige.0 points

Was this the addendum to the Neinas report? How much did it cost NT to get this bit of already known information? Seriosusly though, I think this is already figured out. Or at least I hope it is.0 points

I don't think they have done anything since being put in SMU's back pocket. During the promos for the Super Bowl concert, it was always "accompanied by a 90 pc symphony orchresta." They never once mentioned it was NT's SO. The Musers were the only one's to mention NT's SO. Basically, I don't think the station as a whole wants anything to do with us as long as they are partnered with SMUt. Once we start winning, that will probably change.0 points

I doubt he would badmouth UNT because the AD would be paying him to be there. He would just talk about the greatness of our opponent that day. I don't want this alltime college football douchebag anywhere near the new stadium next year. Just today, he talks about how he went to the TCU games when he was there but never became attached to the program because they sucked, so he decided to be/remain an OU fan. This after saying a couple of month ago that long suffering is what makes fandom so great when your team finally wins. Complete college football douchebag and someone I hope never is paid a dime by the AD to provide great publicity for our opponent.0 points
